Subject: What happened to lyric site http://ntl.matrix.com.

Written By: Jon on 01/14/03 at 02:28 a.m.

http://ntl.matrix.com.br/ was the greatest site on Earth, not only for lyrics but also for determining the song ranking and year.  If they are down permanently, other suggestions where to go to get lyrics along with song year and ranking?

Thanks

Jon

Lyrics World was my personal favorite amongst lyrics sites.  I've tried e-mailing to the webmaster, Paolo Filho, but he hasn't answered back.  The Web Wayback machine has Lyrics World preserved in their archive, so this may work for you:

Visit http://web.archive.org

and enter this site address into their search engine

Thank you for that link.  There were some bits and pieces of the pfilho site there.  For me, best thing about the site was to be able to look back at any year (eg: 1973, 1983, 1996 etc) and know that a specific song had a certain ranking (that a song reached number six in 1993 was good to know!).

It was nice that the lyrics were there too, but they could be found in another site.  Just 'googled' the phrase "Top 40 Hits of 1930-1999" (taken from http://web.archive.org/web/20011031055159/www.ntl.matrix.com.br/pfilho/html/main_index/index.html)
and there are probably tens of thousands who linked to pfilho's site, including libraries, educational institutions, and music archives.   Extremely unfortunate if the site is no longer and if no one made backups of it.

I have come back from another message board and they said it works once again.  Try this.

http://www.ntl.matrix.com.br/pfilho/html/main_index/

This is the part I go to, where you can search the titles by artist or title.

I just checked it out myself, at the new link.. and dude, you ain't missing much if that one disappears.. it's far from containing every top 40 song for each year.. there's way more songs that reached the top 40 than that..

try this one instead:

http://www.top40db.com/

they require an account in order to view complete lyrics, but they aren't any more annoying than most registration required sites.. and they're far more complete than the site you were looking at
