Subject: The Amiright Economy?
what is the current state of quality parodies, and why arent people voting? i recently checked on one of my parodies, i had two comments, and no votes. i must say that i am quite worried about the future of parodies, are the authors/voters blown out? i know that i am,but what about everyone else? it just seems that votes are down.
anyone else agree?
Subject: Re: The Amiright Economy?
I just have a bad case of writer's block, and it seems that I might for a very long time. :(
Subject: Re: The Amiright Economy?
well lets say mine has been going strong for about a month two months now, the last solo top ten parody i had was Parody of the beatles let it be. it sucks not having any good ideas >:(
Subject: Re: The Amiright Economy?
I wouldnt say voting is that bad still, I think it has gone up, I mean look, on one of my and Keith Kamers recent ones, we have like 30 votes (well, it also is #1, but anyway)....I think comments havent caught on enough
Subject: Re: The Amiright Economy?
yeah but most of the songs in the top 10 have like between 12-18 votes, i dont know i just dont think people are voting.
Subject: Re: The Amiright Economy?
Really, I think that a lot more people are using the comments lately rather than voting..
Subject: Re: The Amiright Economy?
I try to do both...I always vote if I recognize the source song. If I particularly like (or dislike) a song, or have something interesting to say, I try to leave a comment as well.
As for writing, I've been focusing on recording some of my songs. If I could only fix my voice :) I'll start putting songs up again in the next few weeks, and hopefully, links to recorded versions of some of the older ones (and newer ones, if I have the background music).
Subject: Re: The Amiright Economy?
I've not got any new ones in the pipeline atm ::)

do you think that it is due to lack of inspiration from the News world?

Definately not as long as mine...I haven't wrote a solo one for A-G-E-S!!!
Subject: Re: The Amiright Economy?
im just not writing any good quality parodies, i mean got some ok but none of them have been a good example of me at my best.
Subject: Re: The Amiright Economy?
i think there is a conspiracy >:(
stg and ghetto john put out a cry me a river parody that gets 12 votes in one day and i put out one that has 5 votes in about a month. it seems that no matter what i do, no one even looks at my songs. i don't care if u go and bash it but at least vote on it. my most voted on parody only has 20 votes and the second is only at about 12.
Subject: Re: The Amiright Economy?
sorry bout that dude, but i alone have friends at school who will vote for my songs, im sorry you feel that way.
Subject: Re: The Amiright Economy?
and just as an add in , i have one song titled Frauders, it hasnt even got one vote, thats new to me. so dont worry bout it. :)

It's not a conspiracy, that's just the way it is. 12 votes isn't a huge number, either. Plus, the title is catchy. That's what you want on parodies-- catch titles. It makes people want to click on it and read it if the title is funny.
Subject: Re: The Amiright Economy?
i agree since when does someone flip out over 12 votes, none of my songs have gone past 38, but some people have songs with like 200 or more, or somin like that, so thanks for the d.
Subject: Re: The Amiright Economy?
ive been writing crap recently too (ie Paper boy, Sammy Davis eyes)
Ive got to get some better ones..working on parodies "Youre body is a wonderland". "Just my imagination" and "Dont stand so close to me" (and if anybody really remembers along time ago, I said I was gunna finish this one in like September, but never did)

well in the words of kurt cobain " things have never been so swell, i have never failed to fail"

Hey, GJ, don't let it get to you: I've just had a look at the stats...
Ghetto John - 1237 votes from 84 songs = ~15 votes per song
Phil Alexander - 995 votes from 106 songs = ~9 vps
...and I'm not complaining... though I know I do use quite a variety of (occasionally obscure) source material, so I expect some of them not to attract many votes.
As to why some songs attract 00s of votes - IMO they're not conspicuously better songs, but either luckier or better advertised.

WHEN I SAID D- I MEANT DEFENSE ( SORRY CAPSLOCK BROKE HERE AT THE SCHOOL)
Subject: Re: The Amiright Economy?
I think a lot is better advertisement. For example, my song The Chugger isn't particulary good (in my opinion, compared to other songs), but it made rounds with the people from my college dorm (who the song was about, and had special meaning). The Heidi Hoff/Katie Bates song, I'm sure was sent around their entire high school.
I think the comments are much more useful.
Subject: Re: The Amiright Economy?
I guess what I find interesting, is that some people leave comments but don't bother voting on the song. Some songs have more comments than votes.
Maybe I should combine the two somewhat. Maybe let people select a different vote when they are leaving their comment (not to be included with the regular voting totals), like a "How much did you like this parody: 1-5" just to put stars next to the comment people leave behind.. that way you could see if someone liked the parody before you read their comment. Later on, I could even filter like amazon does (sort by lowest comments, etc).

I agree...when songs are advertised better, they attract more votes.....my favorite parody of mines is "everyday a**holes", but when I first submitted it, it only got like 3 votes..and one of them was mine! But when ever Im asked about my favorite parody, especially here on the messageboards, I always mention it, and get it better advertising (in fact Im doing it right now, lol)..also on my little bio thing on the parody author list, I advertise certain parodies..and those got more votes too. So advertising does help...

Subject: Re: The Amiright Economy?
I like that idea a lot (the additional voting along with the comments)
Also, maybe people fill out the voting, leave a comment, then only hit the "update comments" button, thinking the voting will be updated at the same time?

ooh.. good point.. never thought of that.. I'll have to try and change that I guess...
Subject: Re: The Amiright Economy?
what about like how if you forget to completely fill out the votes like for example you click 2 out of three, it takes you to this oops page, well what if made the two one in the same, and if you voted without comments, or vice versa, it would take you to the oops. :)
Subject: Re: The Amiright Economy?
I've also got bad writer's block. I wrote a bunch of parodies within the past few weeks, but almost all of them have been of the band "Bad Religion", who barely anyone on here has even heard of, much less listens to. I have one coming up soon though that might last a day or two!
