Subject: kissthisguy.com is back on the air...

Hey I just checked and www.kissthisguy.com is back up and running.

They're using the Amazon Honor System ::) to solicit contributions.  Also hawking Master Card via banner ads.

Chucky's amiright.com still kicks butt however and reigns supreme. ;D 8) :D :)

If it wasn't for the competition, we couldn't claim to be the best. Welcome back, kissthisguy!

it's always nice to have them around.. they were the first site devoted to misheard lyrics, and you have to give them credit for it...

and I can't really begrudge them for trying to make a little money at it.. I do actually lose money running the sites right now.. I know that with the large amount of traffic I get, I could probably make enough to cover my costs by running obnoxious ads. I just chose not to..

The affiliate fees from Amazon cover about half of my operating costs, and I can foot the rest right now, it's like the cost of a couple CDs every month.. which is why I routinely beg for rare mp3s from the site visitors >grin< (check chuckyg.com for my huge want list)...

I poked around their messageboard for a bit.. and I noticed one person boasting about this site.. but said they thought kiss this guy was easier to navigate.. and I've heard that complaint before in the past..

so um.. what's better about their design than mine? if I've got more stuff, I guess I should try and make it easier to find stuff.. what's hard about navigating the current layout? anyone with any feedback out there?

They haven't even updated it since last summer.  :P  :'(  ::)

I just took a quick look.  The only thing that jumped out is that you can click on a letter of the alphabet to quickly bring up all the songs which start with that letter.  Also, the search links (letters) stay on the left of the screen (you don't need to scroll or look for it at all)

On Amiright, the search links (original song, original author, etc) are placed on the bottom of the results page, so if you get a lot of results, you have to scroll down to the bottom to search again.  Minor in my opinion, but if people are complaining about navigation, it could be an issue.

Hope that helps.

That is true, if you're viewing a list of the song titles. A similar thing happens if you click on "View by artist" (to view the artists); however, in the margin you'll only get the letters from A through E and an HTML code fragment. To get the rest of the alphabet, you'll have to click on B, C, D, or E; then you can go to one of the other letters. And you can't view the list of artists whose names start with A, that stinks.  :( Last summer they were undergoing some problems.

What I like about this site is the integrity, something you don't see much online.

I looked at kissthisguy.com today and it looks like it has not been updated for eons.

I'll say it again:  Chucky's amiright.com site kicks butt in a major way, leaving all competitors in the dust. ;D

(Gotta admit though, that kissthisguy.com's "Blinded by the Light" page is pretty cool)... :D

yeah, his Blinded by the Light page is pretty good, though Cecil Adams' Straight Dope is better in my opinion..

his messageboard goes up for like three months at a time lately.. I'm sure the guy who runs the site has just lost interest at this point.. too sad..

With the size of my misheard lyrics archive, I think it's time for me to look at new means of navigating it. So I'll probably visit the issue at some point.

You're right, LB. I just mentioned that in my above post (#6, I think). I wonder why...

Now it says "Last updated January 22, 2003." Strange, a few days ago it said "August 8 2002."  ??? Something is obviously wrong over there.  ::)  ::)

Chucky, I just checked out the straightdope.com "Blinded" page and, while amusing  ;D and containing some historical perspective, is not as comprehensive as the www.kissthisguy.com "Blinded" compendium.  I mean, after all, the essence of "Blinded" is the contoversy surrounding what the real lyrics are... and what they may really mean.  (Consider this... will we ever really know why little Early Pearly gave his anus curly-wurly?)

So I would have to vote for kissthisguy on the "Blinded" topic, because it contains more interpretations as to what the real lyrics are or might be.   Just think how cool 8) it would be if kissthisguy were regularly updated.  :D

All that said, I don't think any of us will ever REALLY know what the real lyrics are, let alone what they are supposed to mean.  :-/   ???

And you know what else? They run pop up adveritsements, which most people, including me, find very annoying.  >:(
