Subject: Neil Diamonds a pervert!

Written By: Billy_Florio on 09/22/02 at 08:01 p.m.

Well im searching through my Neil Diamond colllection to try and find that song mentioned in a previous post, and I realized something...Longfellow Serenade is about sex!  Now this may seem as off-wack as that Nora Jones post, but read the chourus...i cant believe it...i never thought Id hear Neil DIamond (my grandma's favorite singer) singing about riding a girl!

Such were the plans I'd made
For she was a lady
And I was a dreamer
With only words to trade
You know that I was born for a night like this
Warmed by a stolen kiss
For I was lonely
And she was lonely

Ride, come on baby, ride
Let me make your dreams come true
I'll sing my song
Let me make it warm for you

I'll weave his web of rhyme
Upon the summer night
We'll leave this worldly time
On his winged flight

Then come, and as we lay
Beside this sleepy glade
There I will sing to you
My Longfellow serenade

Longfellow serenade
Such were the plans I made
But she was a lady
As deep as a river
And through the night, we stayed

And in my way, I loved her as none before
Loved her with words and more
For she was lonely
And I was lonely

Ride, come on baby, ride
Let me make you dreams come true
I'll sing my song
Let me sing my song
Let me make it warm for you

I'll weave this web of rhyme
Upon the summer night
We'll leave this worldly time
On his winged flight

Then come, and as we lay
Beside this sleepy glade
There I will sing to you
My Longfellow serenade

Maybe we don't really want to know what his "Long fellow" is... ;)

But I'm pretty sure it's not William Wadsworth Longfellow.  ;D

Hey, you just figured out that "Longfellow Serenade" was about sex?  Heck, nearly all of his songs are filled with double entendres.

For example we have "Cracklin Rosie" (lyrics extract below), which is either about

 Self Gratification  ("Rosie" references)  ::)
Getting a Prostitute ("Store bought woman")  ;)
Blowup Dolls ("Dream that dont ask no questions")  :P
Oral Sex ("You make me sing like a guitar hummin")  ;D

..and yes, yet more references to "taking a ride" and, perhaps, even being "on a train"...

Neil surely paved the way for the likes of Prince and Aerosmith with these racy lyrics and much, MUCH more.

Cracklin' Rosie, get on board
We're gonna ride till there ain't no more to go
Taking it slow
Lord, don't you know
Have me a time with a poor man's lady
Hitchin' on a twilight train
Ain't nothing here that I care to take along
Maybe a song
To sing when I want
Don't need to say please to no man for a happy tune

Oh, I love my Rosie child
She got the way to make me happy
You and me, we go in style
Cracklin' Rose, you're a store-bought woman
You make me sing like a guitar hummin'
So hang on to me, girl
Our song keeps runnin' on

Play it now
Play it now
Play it now, my baby

Cracklin' Rosie, make me a smile
God if it lasts for an hour, that's alright
We got all night
To set the world right
Find us a dream that don't ask no questions, yeah

Ahem....if I may....being a HUGE ND fan....and an impersonator...and quite a collector I can assure you of 2 things....

1) Longfellow Serenade is definitely about sex....and the double-entendres are definitely meant....

B) Cracklin' Rosie is NOT.  It's about a bottle of cheap wine.

Jonman...if youre a huge Neil Diamond fan, maybe you can help me...I cant figure out what song this is, and I think its by Neil DIamond (but I checked my whole collection of him, and its not there), so It may not be...do you know it:

"hey baby, theyre playin our song..<somethingsomethingsomething> from when we used to get along <repeat>.....hey baby, oh hey baby"

it wasnt on the very best of Neil Diamond

About WWL - he never existed or at least is not famous. Henry wadsworth longfellow and william wordsworth were both famous poets thats probably why people are confused
