Subject: Desmond Dekker - The Israelites
Rambling through the site here I came across misheard lyrics for Desmond Dekkers 'The Israelites'. Having once spent a night of debauchary with the man I can state as a matter of fact (unless he was winding me up) that the correct title for the song is 'My Ears Are Alight' and that in fact 'The Israelites' is incorrect. According to Desmond the song was released without him being aware of it, the title being misheard by some white record exec. My tuppence worth to the argument, am I right, am I wrong?

I think he *was* pulling your leg - "My Ears Are Alight" is what the comedian Lenny Henry used to say on stage that *he* misheard the lyric as :)

When I saw Desmond Dekker play in Oxford, he spent it must have been ten minutes before "The Israelites" ranting about how people always say the words wrong, and how serious a song it is... you must be wrong

Didn't that go "I wake up in the morning, wanting some breakfast
What margarine do I put on my toast
Oh, oh Vitalite"?
...then of course there was the Memorex "my ears are alight" advert - that one could have come straight from amiright/kissthisguy ;-)
