Subject: 9/11 Tribute

Written By: Katie Ford on 07/25/02 at 02:20 p.m.

I was thinking, for the upcoming anniversary, some of us could write a song or two, dedicated in memory of the people who died in that horrific event, and the Towers themselves.  I've thought of three songs so far we could use:

"Towers Standing High" (American Pie)
"Greatest Landmark Some Never Knew" (Greatest Man I Never Knew")
"Please Remember September" (Please Remember Me)

As serious parody dedications, rather than piss-takes, those would work, but I don't know if this is what the site is about. With one year approaching since the horrific attacks, I think memory certainly remains, and hence people will still write about them for time to come, be it in poetry, prose, song, or parody.

How about anti-terrorist parodies?  Here are some suggestions for them:

--"White Wedding"-Billy Idol
--"Shut up and Listen"-Eminem
--"I wanna kiss you all over"-(I forget who)

All of these tunes have a beat that could be used to unleash angst at the 'rorists.

The American Pie sounds a good idea, but I'm not gonna be the one who'd be able to do that though :-/

???

how about an terrorist-ass-kicking song with the Chorus:

"Bye, Bye, Kiss your asses goodbye/here's a letter to world terrorists the US supplies/ and George and Tony cook up one big surprise/saying this'll be the day Saddam dies, this is the day Osama dies"

any takers?

Quoting:

"Bye, Bye, Kiss your asses goodbye/here's a letter to world terrorists the US supplies/ and George and Tony cook up one big surprise/saying this'll be the day Saddam dies, this is the day Osama dies"

End Quote

As I understand it, Osama bin Laden is neither dead nor captured, although a great many Afghan civillians were either killed or had their homes destroyed during our attempts to find him. How about:

Bye, bye, kiss your asses goodbye
Saw you living in a country where Bin Laden can hide
You're a good ol' boy, in the wrong place and wrong time
And buddy this'll be the day that you die

Then again, how much respect do I show to the innocent dead of either country by writing a parody of American Pie?

Those are both good.  I think Jim A's is the best chorus line.  For the first verse I was thinking of something like:

A long, long time ago,
I still remember how those Towers used to stand.
They seemed to go on for many a mile,
and when we saw them, we would all smile.
We thought everything was grand.
But September 11 made us shiver,
with the bad news Dan Rather and the others delivered.
Chaos on the screen,
we couldn't belive what we've seen.
We can't remember how hard we cried
when we heard about all those shattered lives,
but something touched us deep inside,
the day, the Towers died.
