Subject: I'm running out of places to look
I need some good music sharing networks, that will let me find hard to find tracks.. I've been using Kaaza and audio galaxy, but I still have a lot of stuff I can't find with them.. has anyone got any suggestions? I've been trying winmx, but it's really flaky (crashes a lot) and doesn't always download stuff that it's found
Subject: Re: I'm running out of places to look
We're on the same boat. I've actually tried most out there just to find the same inadequacies. :-/ Thus, the only one I kept was AG, minus the spyware.

I use audiogalaxy, you got to try a few different things to get the songs
ie: Spell the artists name wrong, make two words one word, type in the name of the album, type in the name of the song, there are probably others, hope this helps.
PS: it doesnt work for everything, but it does for most.

You could use Napster ;D ;D ;)

I've done that with a few things.. but it doesn't always work, you end up with covers, or strange junk..
what I could really use is something that does trading.. where I post a want list, and a have list, and let people who want something, send me something I need

audiogalaxy is getting sued by the same folks that sued Naptser....so I would not depend on them much longer!!!

Is it any wonder that a lot of their songs are blocked anymore?
Subject: Re: I'm running out of places to look
At this rate, file-sharing will be history and they will have won! :o >:( Nooooooooooooooooooooo......................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So what's currently left? Kazaa? And... anything else? Morpheus?

KaZaa and Morpheus are supposedly giving up the fight because they can't afford the legal fees anymore. Welcome to the land of the free and the home of those who win lawsuits because they simply have more money to keep the fight going.
Fortunately, unlike Napster they don't have centralized servers so KaZaa giving up shouldn't shut the network down. but it DOES mean that there will be no more updates to the software. And it is possible that it MAY result in a shutdown. Morpheus doesn't use a centralized server either, but their system sucks now that they stopped using the FastTrack system (The one KaZaa uses). Very difficult to get files with Morpheus now, IMO.
Yes, it's getting tougher and tougher to get a good file sharing program. And when we do get a good one, it's tough to find what we want, since in the aftermath of the Napster fiasco, people changed file names to try and get past the filters, and they never changed them back (Man, does that bug me). It's only going to get worse. And until the RIAA finds an opponent who CAN afford to keep the fight going through to conclusion, we're going to keep seeing good software spring up, only to be beaten down by court-costs that the RIAA can afford, but a start-up company can't.
It's the perfect way for the RIAA to avoid a ruling on the copyright issue. Drag things out until the defendants go bankrupt....

Once Napster started their filtering I switched to BearShare.

I hate these damn people who think it should be illeagle to get free music off of the internet, I had used Audiogalaxy for such a long time, but now theyve blocked everything there, even Tenecious D. The people who think this should be stoned!
Anyway, I somehow got this "ayb" thing on my computer that has free downloads of mp3s, but it only has new and terrible music, so it sucks. and Im not too sure how I got it.
So anyway, there r more ways, but Im not too sure what they are.
