My brother just got a new American Bull Dog puppy.  :) I'm happy that he got it.  He's the most well-behaved puppy I've ever seen.  :) We'll see how he is on Halloween when the kids are out trick or treating.  We'll probably put him in his crate while that's happening.  :)

I was about to go out back to check on my cherry tomatoes (4 today-the most I have gotten in a day) and saw a guy in my backyard.

There are some areas on my house & garage that need to be repaired. I have only been trying to get someone to repair it since April. People didn't return my calls, one guy came out to look at it, was going to send a estimate but I never got it. I was really hoping to have it done before winter.

When I looked out the back window and saw a guy out there repairing my garage, I almost did the happy dance.

Today was supposed to be the day I officially started working as a senior technician. I verbally accepted the job the other week and HR sent me the offer letter on Friday afternoon. I haven’t signed yet as they offered me less pay than the previous person was earning.

Yesterday Dai and I helped with marshalling a 10 mile cross country race. This has become an annual event to raise funds for the Scout group our children went to. It is very tiring standing up. Dai said he felt nearly as tired as if he’d run the race

Busy day! My friend picked me up about 1:30 to go to town. We didn't have a lot of time because we had to be at the farm by 6 to pick up my CSA. I had a lot of places I wanted to go so there were a few that will have to wait.

First stop was an appliance store. I desperately need a new microwave. I wasn't impressed with the sales woman and more importantly, I wasn't impressed with the microwaves they had. I walked out without buying one.

We went down the road to the carpet store. I have decided that I was going to retire my old rug which is about 20 years old. I wanted to pretty much just replace what I have-same color. When we were looking at one, my friend said that it was more cushy than mine. I told her that mine used to be cushy 20 years ago. But I found something very close and ordered it. So I will be getting a new rug in a few weeks. Now I have to figure out what to do with the old one. And wondering if I need to vacuum it anymore.

My friend wanted to know if I wanted to go to Home Depot to look for a microwave. I opted not.

Then it was to a jewelry store to get a new watch band & battery. From there, it was to the UPS store to return the tablet case.

We had some time so we went to Denny's. And then to the grocery store. We left the store at 5 so we were making good time.

We got caught in a rainstorm on the way back but started clearing.  We just got off the highway when my friend said there was a rainbow. I didn't see it and we were heading in the opposite direction. She said that she would turn around. Not only was it a rainbow, it was a double rainbow. I was so glad I had my camera with me. She pulled off the road and I got out to take pics. She took out her phone. I remembered my phone and took some shots on that and sent one off to my sisters.

We got to the farm with a half hour to spare. I showed the farmer the pics of the rainbow. There was another guy there who also took some shots of it. He took out his phone and said about sharing our shots. I said "I'll show you mine if you shoe me yours." He got a shot of it over the lake. He thinks that they were different rainbows. Don't know.

She then dropped me off with all my groceries. Unfortunately she didn't stay to give me a massage but she helped me out a lot today.

So now I have to figure out the microwave situation. I can order one on-line. And I will post a pic of the rainbow when I get on my computer (probably tomorrow.)

I've had decent luck ordering microwaves online with Amazon. The most recent time I ordered one I wanted one smaller than the one I had because I need to maximize my counter space. The only problem with the smaller one is it takes a LOT longer to heat things up because it is less powerful.

I need one above the stove. I was thinking of getting a small one for the counter until I could find one that I like. My friend ask me why buy 2 of them. I just hope the one I have will hold on until I can find a replacement.

Had a dentist appointment. They were supposed to pull a tooth but decided to wait until January after the holidays. They just glued the tooth to strengthen it to get me through the next few months. And the technician said that she will come to pick me up for the appointment. Talk about going above and beyond the call of duty.

Today, has totally changed for me. Due to the appalling wet and expected stormy weather, everything has been cancelled and I am set to be at home all day, so what else is there for me to do?

Elizabeth came on Friday to stay for a few days so that Dai and I could go away. We went to Cirencester in the Cotswolds and stayed in a nice hotel.

We just gently pottered around some of the towns and villages in the area. Dai has traced his family back to this area so we went to a couple of the churches to check out some memorials. We had some nice meals in the evening.

Elizabeth went home today and James came to stay for a week or so. The school where he works is on a two week break.

I'm tired of this clock changing business. It's outdated. At this point in time, it's just one of those things that's done for the sake of doing it. One or the other needs to be settled on, I really don't care which, and just KEEP it that way.

According to the Sleep Foundation's website:

Legislators in dozens of U.S. states have introduced bills to eliminate clock changes. But in almost all states, there has been relatively little momentum in 2024 as most bills have been rejected or stalled in committees.

Baking the Christmas cake today. It needs three or four hours in the oven so I got going early. I used my mother in laws big food mixer (a bit like Kenwood chef). It saved my shoulder during the creaming the butter and sugar I guess. However the paddle didn’t reach all around the bowl so I was constantly stopping the mixer and scraping the sides. Not sure it was any quicker than usual.

Yes,  but it needs to mature. It says at least two or three weeks in my recipe book. I have always done it about now. Dose it with brandy a few times between now and Christmas.

Christmas puddings are often done on Stir up Sunday which is the last Sunday before Advent. Never made a pudding as shop bought ones are fine.

Christmas puddings are often done on Stir up Sunday which is the last Sunday before Advent. Never made a pudding as shop bought ones are fine.
I am one for buying my (our) own Christmas Pudding. Buying saves time and energy.

BTW, I never liked the taste of pumpkin.

Yes,  but it needs to mature. It says at least two or three weeks in my recipe book. I have always done it about now. Dose it with brandy a few times between now and Christmas.

Interesting, I never knew about this. I just learned something new. O0

I am going to suggest it to the family to do, they are better cooks than me.

This is a busy week for me, being that it’s close to month end (then again, that’s how the end of the month is for my work; but I always get through it with no issues).

I posted this 18 years ago: http://www.inthe00s.com/index.php?topic=23685.0

So for Elvira's 18th Adoption Day, we celebrated by going to the vet. She hasn't been doing well and at her age, I was thinking of just letting Nature take her course.

Then I remembered Electra. Electra wasn't doing well and we brought her to the vet on her 16th birthday. She then started on fluids twice a week and she lived for 2 more years.

So it seems that Elvira needs fluids, too. So maybe Elvira will be with me for two more years.

No problem. O0 I think Chuck used to turn on the holiday emotions a few days in advance.
