Can you believe it? We are now in the ninth month of the year. (Eight down, four to go!) Time sure flies!

Anyway, here is your new monthly thread. White rabbits!!

Went to the Viking party. It was a lot of fun. The costumes were everything from Viking to renaissance to Scottish/Irish. Some people didn't even wear a costume. Didn't matter. Everyone had fun.

The food was really good-and there was a lot! There was a band-this is one of the bands that usually plays on the Green. (Didn't go to their concert this year.)  I left before the bonfire. I'm sure they are still partying.

I’m spending the Labor Day holiday at home. It’ll be my last work holiday until Thanksgiving.

Back at work today. We have a new member of the technician team start this morning. It was hard getting the balance between getting to know her and getting some useful work done, plus going to the various start of year briefings and meetings.

I just found out from My Mother that one of my cousins passed away, that was my Uncle's son, I don't know what caused it but I will find out later on. :\'(

Many of us have such families, unfortunately. I had a maternal uncle who never took care of himself; he died of liver disease 25 years ago (and would have been 70 this month if he were still alive). And I have one living paternal uncle who has his share of health issues; he’s gonna turn 70 this November.

Anyway, today I went back to work after a three-day weekend. I had lotsa stuff to get done and was able to accomplish it all.

Super tired this week. We have been very busy at work getting things in place for the new term. Plus I am not sleeping that well.

Still it’s the weekend. And tomorrow I am going to Lincoln for a day of dance. We go most years and have a great time.

Twas a short work week for me, but it was quite busy. Now I get to unwind.

Was outside yesterday with my neighbor. He was getting drunk and was very angry. I understand why he is angry. It is a situation that has been going on for about 7 years now with him and the town. It is a long story. He sued the town multiple times but the courts sided with the town even though the town had falsified records. Because of this, half of the population of the town hates him. It really is a shame because he is a good guy, has helped me out a lot. One time he said to me after I thanked him, "Don't tell anyone. I have a reputation to protect."

So yesterday, he was crying and yelling at me. I know he wasn't really yelling at me, he was really yelling at two people-the town manager (who is a royal A-hole who many people in this town-including me would like to see gone) and chair of the select board (who I consider... well not really a friend but friendly. We have invited him & his wife to dinner and they used to live in this house).

I know he was only using me as a surrogate for those two people because he knew I was "safe". I told him that I knew he was doing that but it still made me uncomfortable. He backed off.

I feel so bad for him. I wish I could help him out but I don't know what I can do-short of being yelled at.

My eyes are now stable, but my return to the boards will be delayed, for I still have no computer, hopefully a new in the next few weeks. Access only on my phone or tablet, which is quite not the same.

California Line Fire is close to SIL's house. She is off the mountain which is good but her kitties are not. She can't go home because the roads are closed and doesn't know when she will be able to. She has a neighbor who said if the evacuation order is given, they will get the cats. Hopefully her kitties and the house will be ok.

An earthquake shook southern California at 7:30 this morning; it was 4 point something magnitude. I didn’t feel it, as I was driving to work. I later found out that it was centered in Malibu, which is geographically south of where I work; fortunately when I got to my office, everything was okay. I did feel a few aftershocks during the morning hours, however.

Went to a talk by Tim Peake about astronauts and space travel last night. It should have been a school trip, but the head of department didn’t advertise it till the very last minute so only a small group came. We did manage to sell some of the tickets to other members of staff and their families. This meant Dai was able to come.

Dai has headed north to help Elizabeth pack her belongings and move back here for a few months. They will be back tomorrow.

I went to Parkrun this morning. I did a lot of the course with a friend so I kept jogging further round the course than usual. Happy with my finish time. I did have a nap when I got home.

I took a bag of Carlos's clothes to a drop box that is next door at the church-the first of many. It was very hard. There is still a lot of clothes to go through. Only one dresser is empty. There is still another dresser and the closet to do. It is just overwhelming so it is going very slow.  :\'( :\'( :\'(  I'm not getting rid of it all. There are some items that I will add to my wardrobe and others will be put in a bin and put in the closet. A few items will go to his son.

Tomorrow I return to work after a week's vacation

Elizabeth has been staying with us for the past week. She moves in with her boyfriend tomorrow.

Today we had my family round for lunch. It was in honour of my dad’s birthday (actual day was a couple of weeks ago). We worried about not having enough space for everyone, but then the weather was lovely so we sat outside. Towards the end of the afternoon it clouded over and we went inside. Now it is raining, and has been for about two hours.

The only place I went to today was the library to do some volunteering. I also stayed for a few more minutes as a patron, then came home.

Yesterday was the autumnal equinox (Northern Hemisphere) and it was quite cool in southern California. I appreciate being able to enjoy the seasons. (However, it was warm at my office today.)

Possibly had my last injection. Last time I had one the nurse said this would be my last. The nurse on Monday said there are another two to go.

Job interview tomorrow for a promotion to senior.

This week is maintenance. Monday I had my (new) oven repaired >:( along with my freezer so it closes properly. Today they are coming to clean my heating system.

I was tempted to turn the heat on yesterday. Today is a bit warmer but I am going to tell them to switch it over to heat since it is still on cool and I won't have to do it. It is not hard to switch, just a matter of pressing a button-but you have to switch every unit and there are 8. (2 units don't have to be switched-you put it on heat or cool when you turn it on.)
