The garage & basement went fairly smoothly. I ended up with 8 fooball players and their coach. And my neighbor stopped by after he got home from work. Two hours later, the garage is organized and the basement is now ready for the "All things basementy" to come in and do their thing. (Cha- ching! Cha-ching!)
There was one last thing that needed to be done but they all looked at me as if to say, "Yeah, right" They were done. They did a lot. My neighbor said that we could do it another time.
My neighbor was going through the dumpster to make sure it was all recycling in there. It was a good thing because he found a box of the molding for my kitchen in there. Kids.
After all that work keeping non-recycling out of the dumpster, it rained and rained hard. So all those boxes were going to end up at the landfill anyway so I threw the trash in there. At least I didn't have to worry how to dispose of it.
There are still some things to go through in the garage but at least now it is pretty much organized and I can see what is out there.
Yesterday, I was super tired. They came for the dumpster and a repair guy came to calibrate my new oven and fix the seal on my freezer.
I bought the stove last year. Never used the oven. When my sisters came a few weeks ago, one of them used the oven and told me it wasn't heating right. Come to find out the thermostat needs replacing. I called the place I bought it from-yeah, the warranty ran out on the 18th. Oy vey! Even if I did use the oven, I don't cook enough to know if it was working right or not. But the place ordered the part and they are going to see if they can still put it on the warranty.
So that is how the last two days of July went. August should be quieter. Debating whether I want to go to a concert on the Green tonight. I think they will be playing big band music. I will see how I am feeling this evening and what the weather is doing.

Went into work this afternoon to help load the trailer with various boxes and equipment ready for the trip to Edinburgh.
Then Dai and I went orienteering in a nearby town. A friend planned the courses.

I’m still thinking I’d like to take some vacation time this month, but I would need to do it when there’s not a crunch period, and when no one else plans to be out. There are a few open days; I’d like to decide by Monday.

I don’t plan to go out anywhere today. If the weather gets warm enough, I might go into the pool.

Good news: today at work, I was able to successfully request two days off this month: the 20th (Tuesday) and 21st (Wednesday).

Busy day at work today because I had to train my coworkers to do my tasks (so that they can fill in for me when I take vacation time).

Very busy week. I am in Edinburgh for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival - an arts festival that runs for three weeks in August and has done since 1947.
I am here with two groups of students performing short (50 min) plays daily for this week. The group I am staying with are doing a piece based on the 2018 Hawaii missile alert. The other group is doing something a little more “out there” in a style developed by the Forced Entertainment theatre group.
I have been able to attend lots of different shows. One called Faking It was by an American lady who works for New York hospitals as an undercover patient, and she was very funny. I’ve seen two stand up comedians, including Reginald D Hunter, and two dance shows. There is a mix of professional and amateurs shows. Some big names in comedy that made their name starting out at the Edinburgh Fringe.

And today I had to show one workmate how to do some of my Admin Assistant tasks (the guy who joined last year as the primary Admin Assistant). He seems to pick up things quite well.

A bit of history and some of you who have been around for a while may remember some of this.
I used to be very active with the organization that ran the local food shelf. I was on the board of directors, the food shelf coordinator, did publicly, and I even created a film about the organization. We got a new director and for some reason she didn't like me. The board told me that I had to smooth things over with her. In other words, they did not have my back. I quit! Carlos always said that they pushed me out. This was about 20 years ago.
Last year, I decided to send them a healthy donation. I didn't have any acknowledgement for my donation. I decided that I was done with them.
I got a invite to their donor appreciation event. At first I wasn't going to go but then I thought what the hell, it is free food.
When I walked in, I saw my vet-well my former vet. She retired which I wish she didn't. She said that I am not the only one. She didn't know about Carlos.
I told them about my experiences when I was volunteering. Last year I sent them a copy of the film I created 20 years ago. They said that it was a good film. (It was my very first film I ever created.) I told them about some of the things we did. I also told them that there were a lot of personal clashes which is why I quit.
I must have to say that this is not the same organization that it was 20 years ago. They are in a different place, they are doing things differently and even the name has been changed. There was definitely a positive vibe. So now I am wondering about volunteering for them again.

I remember all that you have mentioned to do with the local food shelf. I remember your upset at feeling forced out after all the work you had done for them. I hope that if you decide to volunteer with them again you have a better experience.

I was just about to go to the last concert on the Green for the year (and ice cream night). Then, I looked out the window and it was raining-but the sun was still out. And I am having one of my episodes where I just get so sleepy all of a sudden (I think it is a blood sugar or hormonal thing) where I need to just closed my eyes for about 5 minutes or so. But it still looks wet out there. I decided not to go.

Going on a little weekend getaway in Wisconsin with hubby's employer. Looking forward to it; only problem is, hubby and I have been dealing with head colds, so that may curtail what we do. We'll try to make the best of it.

I am really going to need my R&R.

So far today, I’ve been taking it easy. I thought about going to the beach, but the UV index is gonna be very high until 3pm pacific time. And I wanna spend time in the pool this afternoon, and then go out for dinner with my family. So I’ve decided to visit the beach tomorrow.

I had a scan at the city hospital this morning. Usually there is a long queue for the car park so I left plenty of time to get to my appointment. Of course there wasn’t a queue today, but thankfully they did the scan as soon as I got to the department so I didn’t have to wait for my appointment time. In fact I got my scan and a blood test and was home about five minutes after my official appointment time.
James starts his job next week. He has sorted out some accommodation and will move in on Friday. I have been trying to get him engaged in thinking about what he will need in his new place but it is an uphill job.

Had a hair appointment today. As I was walking there, I received a text saying that she was running late and wanted me to come 45 minutes later. Since I was already halfway there, I just continued. I had my phone & tablet to keep me company. Besides, I got to visit with my friend for a bit-even if she was working.
When she was done with the woman who put her behind, another woman came in and my friend asked if she could go ahead of me. Of course.
After she was done with my hair, she had to clean up a bit before she could drive me to the farm to pick up my CSA. (Usually my other friend drives me but she had another engagement and couldn't do it.) She made a comment about me being there for 3 hours. I didn't mind. Like I said, it was a chance to visit. And besides, it's not like I have any thing else to do.

Fingers crossed on this one. It is a follow up to a scan I had at the end of last year which showed something unrelated to my breast cancer but “suspicious”.
Otherwise the treatment is going well - just two more injections to go for the targeted therapy.

Feeling tired at the moment. My dad is away for a few days so I, James and one of my sisters in law, went round to his house to clean it. He does the basics but doesn’t wash his kitchen cupboards for example. James vacuumed everywhere (and scared a few spiders lurking in the corners) while we tackled the kitchen and bathroom. I am going back to steam mop the floors and clean the bathroom mirror.

Went to the beach with my family this morning, took a walk, and then sat down on the beach so that I could hear the sound of the waves; it was very relaxing.

So, the last couple of days, one of my dad’s cousins was visiting us (with her husband) from the Tahoe area. They came to our place yesterday for dinner, and then today my parents showed them around the area; and tonight we went out to dinner with them. Tomorrow they will be traveling some more.

We took James down to his new place on Friday. He has an en suite bedroom in a shared house about 15 minutes cycle ride from the school where he will be working.
Today Elizabeth and her partner called in for lunch. They are off to Rome tomorrow for a few days, and then Elizabeth is staying on for a conference.

Getting close to the end of the month.. amidst my usual duties, I needed to request more vacation time: for the middle of November. We’re gonna go visit a cousin who currently lives in Reno. (This is for November, but I still had to request vacation time so that we can book flights and hotel reservations.) More to come later.

Dai and I went to a concert in Nottingham yesterday. First on were The Sherlocks. Elizabeth and Paul are fans and we thought they were good. Next up were The Pigeon Detectives, who were a bit “harder”. The main support were Feeder who opened with a great rendition of Buck Rogers.
Dai felt Feeder were better than Razorlight - the main act - but I thought they were pretty even. In a way both suffered from us not being all-out fans, so they had songs which we didn’t know. That allowed me to become distracted, first of all by how many selfies the woman in front of me took and then by how much my feet ached!
