Just got back from a weekend up north in Durham visiting Elizabeth.

We had a couple of nice meals out in the evenings and met for breakfast each day as well. Yesterday she had a college event to go to so Dai, Jean and I went a short drive to a seaside town. It was a nice place, and somewhere we would visit again. Today we all went to the university botanic gardens to enjoy a walk in the sunshine.

So far I don’t have anything eventful happening this month. Just the usual working.

Of course, Fathers Day is on the 16th and I hope to do something special for my dad.

We plan to meet with my dad, my brothers and their families on Father’s Day. The local park will have a band playing in the afternoon.

Have fun with that!

I’m going to take my dad out for dinner next week, and help my mom make a nice meal for him on Father’s Day itself.

Parkrun this morning then in town for a cuppa and a piece of cake. Trip to the tip this afternoon to get rid of some garden waste, then walked to the plant nursery for a few bedding plants.

Tomorrow Dai and I are going to an urban orienteering event. Elizabeth and her boyfriend Paul will be there. It is Paul’s birthday so we will got for lunch or something afterwards.

Tough job, but take it steady and you will get through it.

Have you thought about doing something with the clothes you want to keep. Like a quilt or a memory cushion cover or something?

Some will go to his son. Some I will wear, like some tee shirts & his robes. Yeah, they may be baggy but that is fine. Others, I haven't decided-like his captain's sweatshirt. (I think you might remember that.) There are some that have his name on them. Those belonged to his father and the name was put on when his father went into a nursing home. (He had the same name as his father.) I guess I could give them to his son since he has the same name but I don't think his son would want these. I would have put them in the to go pile but I don't want his name out there and I don't know if I can get the name off without ruining the shirt.

I will figure it out.

We went to the local park today for a concert. It was just one of the local brass bands. It was a family meet up for Father’s Day as well. The plan was to meet up about an hour before the concert to have a picnic and chat before the music started. In the end the last of the group arrived just as the band finished setting.

Busy few days at work. I work in an independent (fee paying) school so we do various events to try to attract students.

Last Saturday we had science masterclasses in for the morning which had about 60 ten year olds in doing things like making a speaker, dissecting owl pellets and doing chemistry experiments with some copper compounds.

Yesterday and today we have taster days with Year 5 (Grade 5) pupils coming in for a day at the school doing some fun lessons. In science we do some activities with dry ice. The timetable for their day means a couple of quick changeovers between groups. Hopefully we will have some dry ice left over so we can have a play!

Year 8 students are doing mini projects for their end of term science fair. Great fun for them, but boy can they be demanding! Slime in all its various forms is popular and three or four groups want to do bacterial agar plates.

Don't have anything on the agenda for the next several days. Don't know what I want to do.

-Do some organizing?
-Read?
-Write?
-Do some research on a few things I have been toying with?

I guess I could do all of the above. One day I can do one of those things. The next day I can do another.

Organizing is work and sometimes emotional, like when I have to deal with Carlos' things. I really don't want to do it but I want it done. I have been trying to organize this house for years now. But now it seems like my mission in life.

I know how you feel when you have to organize after someone's passing, it does get kind of emotional sort of when My Mother had to go through when My Brother had passed away nearly 30 years ago.  :(

Similarly, when my maternal grandmother passed away 10 years ago, we went through all sorts of stuff and had to discard some of it. We saved lots of things that had sentimental value, however.

Dai and I did Parkrun yesterday morning. Then we went up to the Peak District for a pub lunch and a walk.

Didn’t do much today as I was tired from yesterday.

We did get some good news. James has got a job! He finished his teacher training course the other week and now has a job teaching Latin. It is just for a year initially as it is a maternity cover.

Wow! Teaching Latin. I'm impressed. And a year is good. It will give him time to see if teaching really is for him. I learned pretty early that I didn't have the stamina for it-but I was at the k-6 level. If I was at a different level, it may have been different.

Anyways, I was planning on getting up earlier than usual this morning, but my sleep was interrupted just after 5am by the fire alarm (which is hardwired in our home). Instantly, we got up and started to look around to see if there was anything that would trigger it. Nothing. So then we called the fire department; they advised us to come outside the house until they arrived. When they got here, we explained to them that the unit woke us up and we couldn’t find any signs of fire or smoke; they went inside (with a special device) into every room and confirmed there were no such signs. They said that the wires in the unit could be faulty, and advised us to call an electrician. My parents are going to do just that after I leave (in just a few minutes) for my dental appointment.

We had detectors go off randomly-sometimes very early in the morning. This did not help my anxiety. Finally we got them all replaced and never had a problem again. Most people don't realize that they only last about 10 +/- years before they need to be replaced.

Correct. And if you look at them there is a manufacture date on them. if it's ten years after that date they definitely need to be replaced. The batteries also go. Some people don't realize that even if the device is hard wired to the house it still has batteries. But usually the indication that something is amiss with the device itself is a  beeping or chirping sound that gradually gets louder and faster. Usually the full fledged alarm does not go off.

I got a letter from my dental clinic telling me that I will be getting a new dentist. This will make it something like the 7th or 8th dentist I have had in the last 10 years or so. (Only 1 of those I chose to leave.) At least I won't have to leave the clinic-YET. Twice, I have had replacement dentists close the clinics.

I don't know if this is a good thing or a bad thing. The dentist who is there now, I am not sure about. There is something that I can't put my finger one. A friend of mine said that I am not the only one.

Feeling tired today. It has been too hot at night to sleep well, plus I have had various things in my mind.

My senior has a new job, not to boast but I am the obvious candidate to be her replacement. However for some reason the job is being advertised. It leaves me feeling a bit in limbo and not wanted. Another thing to think about is someone else has spoken to me about a potential role working with them. Not sure if it is an offer of a job or just a heads up to apply when I see the advert. I am meeting with them next week to discuss further.

Today I had to go for my first post-surgery mammogram. I was not looking forward to being squished, but it wasn’t as bad as I feared. Results in four to six weeks.

Day out with the Year 8 students today to a water park. I joined in the kayaking and the pedalos. They also did kneel boarding (kneeling on small surf boards and towed around a loop via an overhead cable) and an aqua park of inflatable slides, islands and trampolines.

Tomorrow we are off fairly early to do a Parkrun on the way down to Cambridge. James has finished studying there and we are collecting him and all his stuff.

When I saw this I was like “nally is getting ahead of himself” then I checked the date on my iPad. I thought there was still a few days to go till the 1st.

Yesterday I met up with two friends that I used to work with. One retired and the other moved to Australia. The one in Oz was back visiting friends and family. We had a nice time catching up and also walking through the town centre looking at the various changes since she had last visited (the HSBC bank fire being one of them).

Then I went to the park to join the family at a concert being given by a local brass band. They played a mix of TV themes, film themes, and the occasional classical piece.
