Welcome to the month of March! Here is your new monthly thread.
As we always say when a new month starts: White Rabbits!!

White Rabbit illustration by Grace Slick, who is also author of the song.

And here's another of her illustrations. The White Rabbit writing the song. On the same small red piano (with several missing keys) that she wrote it on circa 1965.

Went to the movie theater earlier today to see the final installment of The Chosen Season 4. It was excellent but it also made me tired. I think I'll turn in early.

Not a bad first day of the month. Everything went well at work; had plenty of heavy traffic to deal with on the way home, and the rain didn't help much. I'm just glad I don't have anywhere to go tomorrow.

Yesterday was culture day at work. I just wore red, white and blue clothing, but a colleague wore her kimono and obi. We have a lot of Indian girls and they wore some beautiful saris.
Today Dai and I helped at an orienteering training morning. It was for some adult orienteers, some very experienced, through to almost beginner level.
Nothing special planned for tomorrow, just lazing around and catching up on some housework.

Didn't do anything today. Just took the day off. Rarely got up from my "throne" (my rocker/recliner). I did start a new book. It is about a club that was a few miles from here. The author (who delivered the book to me last week) interviewed many people about their memories. I know a bunch of them.
I also found a place to watch the total eclipse next month. It won't be total here. But it will be over my stepdaughter's house-but she is working. She lives in the Burlington area and I am sure it will be very crowded. My stepson told me about a park that is in his small town. Sounds perfect. Hopefully there won't be too many people there. I have the glasses but not a filter for my camera-yet. I am excited about this. It really is a once in a lifetime event.

First a couple of cop cars went by the house, sirens blaring. Then the fire trucks went by with thier sirens blaring, too. Followed by a couple of school buses and cars honking horns. I didn't go outside to cheer them on. Just waved from the door window. They probably didn't see me.
The high school girls basketball team won their championship game!! :)

Congratz to them!
Sometimes we get those sounds in our neighborhood, from cop cars/fire trucks, when a mini-holiday parade (sponsored by the city) peruses the neighborhood.

Had my Herceptin injection last Thursday. This drug can have the effect of making you lose your hair, but mine has started to grow back.
On Saturday we drove across to Sandringham Park for an orienteering event. It was also the university championships so Elizabeth was there with some from her student club. We had a little catch up. I was tired in the evening.
Yesterday was Mother’s Day in the U.K. We went out for an evening meal and had some nice food.

I've "enjoyed" radiation before. Towards the end of it you get real tired (it starts out easy). If it's like it used to be, there are long term and permanent effects too. But one gets through it. Best wishes to your mom.

For my birthday back in August Elizabeth and James gave me a gift card for a theatre in the nearby city. Dai and I went on Friday to see The Life of Pi. We had both read and enjoyed the book, so it was interesting to see how this had been interpreted for the stage. It was done very well I thought -Dai said he felt like he had watched a film.
We went for dinner beforehand at an Indian restaurant. They had a pre-theatre dinner option where four small dishes to share were brought for starters, and then four different dishes, together with rice and naan breads, were for the main course.
Yesterday I had to be in work for a bit in the morning as it was an open morning for prospective students to look around the school.
Today Dai and I went orienteering. The ground was very muddy, and there were some areas thick with brambles. It was supposed to be a middle distance event (shorter courses, and therefore shorter running times). I ended up being out for about the same time as usual, as did the course winners. The conditions on the ground made it much harder to get running.

Just had a frustrating five minutes on the phone with the nursing company that come to do my injections.
They call me the day before to tell me what time my appointment will be. Next appointment is next Thursday and we have a lunchtime function at work. I called to ask if a note could be put on my file saying I would like an appointment before 11 or after 3.30. All she could offer was for someone to call me the day before to discuss my appointment time. Well they do that anyway. Surely more sensible to know in advance what times might work better for someone, than having to rearrange appointments to fit in.

I have been so looking forward to the eclipse in a few weeks. It is the first thing I have looked forward to in about a year. I bought the glasses last year. I got a filter for my camera and I found the ideal spot that is off the beaten path. My friend and her family were planning going. But she has backed out because they are telling people to stay home because there is supposed to be a lot of traffic. I told her that we should be fine because we will be mostly on back roads.
So now I don't have a ride. There will only be a partial eclipse here. I really don't want to miss this once in a lifetime event. So I am now looking for Plan B.

Sorry that your lift fell through. Perhaps they will be persuaded if you try again?
Not sure about your “once in a lifetime” statement. I have seen two total eclipses and several partial ones.

Once in MY lifetime. I can't see myself traveling to those other places when I am having trouble getting less than 100 miles away.
I am working on Plan B. Will know in a few days or so if Plan B will work. If it doesn't, Plan C? Yeah, I really don't have a Plan C. I may have to just watch a partial here-but I have too many trees in my yard to see it. Maybe from the cupola?

I must have been lucky. I’ve seen two total eclipses and several partial without leaving my home town.

We went to Cambridge yesterday to meet up with James, Elizabeth and her boyfriend Paul and his family. The occasion was Elizabeth and Paul receiving their MA’s (a weird Cambridge/Oxford tradition - meet some basic criteria for the next few years after graduation and you get an MA). We watched them parade for college to the Senate House, then the ceremony, photos and then we went to Giggling Squid for a long chatty lunch.

Plan C presented itself that might seem to work. I just have to iron out a few details.

In 1991 I happened to see one on my birthday. (It was visible in parts of southern California.) I haven’t seen any others since.

Had spent the weekend with the family, went out for a meal, nothing special, and time spent playing with my granddaughter.

In my time being offline, I am getting on with other important things, and remember a few months ago, a few of us all visited an optician almost on the same day. I have had my eyes looked at, and in a few weeks time will need medical attention.

It's the month of cherry blossoms. As a half-Japanese that's a big deal for me. It is to March as pumpkins are to October.

I take it you won't be following in the footsteps of the protagonist of Carly Simon's "You're So Vain", "you flew your lear jet up to Nova Scotia to see the total eclipse of the sun". :-X

As I have previously mentioned my I.T. Guru is away on holiday, and a new computer will be purchased when he is back home.

Yeah, I forgot that was parked out back.
Actually, I had an offer to stay in a tent. Um...I don't think so-not in April in Vermont when it has been known to snow!
So I will just have to be content to see the partial.

Easter weekend is always an orienteering weekend. Yesterday was sprint racing around a local university campus. I didn’t race, just helped at the finish. Today we were across on Cannock Chase. Supposed to be shorter courses, but I was out for the same sort of time (70+ minutes). It was muddy and slippery underfoot.
Tomorrow we are back to the same area.
