Happy New Year everyone

Dai took James back to university today. His lectures start tomorrow. I sat and watched Belfast (the Kenneth Branagh film). When Dai got back from Cambridge we were going to go for a walk, but it started raining so we are watching to quiz shows instead. Currently Jeopardy with Steven Fry is on. Brand new show never been on UK television before.

The last chapter of the saga of the car.

After months of dealing with Carlos' car, finally getting the title in my name after the DMV was closed because of flooding this summer, offers from Carvana going lower then I was willing to sell it for, planning to have a friend drive it across the state only to have that deal fall through, and having my friend move it just a little each week to keep it running, I am no longer the owner.

I asked my stepson if he wanted the car back in June. He said it didn't suit his needs. One stepdaughter (#3) just bought a new car and this car definitely doesn't suit her needs. I already gave one stepdaughter (#2) the camper van so I couldn't give her the car, too and the other one (#1) is in California. When the offers fell through, I asked my stepson to sell it for me. I figured I could get more with a private sale. He picked it up at Thanksgiving and all was set for him to sell it when..

My granddaughter asked for the car. It is a stick and I asked her if she was ok driving it. She said she was. I also told her that I expected her to drive it for at least a couple of years. I didn't want to give her the car only to have her turn around and sell it.

So the new owner of the car is: my stepson. It seems that my granddaughter, who is at collage only wants it when she is home and wasn't planning on taking it to college with her. So the car is basically going to be a floater car. If anyone needs an extra car and if people come from California, there will be a car to use. In fact, it has already come in handy because stepdaughter #2 had to pick up my granddaughter from Boston, her car has a recall and she wasn't comfortable driving it Boston. So she is using Carlos' car until her's get repaired. She did say that she also wanted the van to be a floater, too. My stepson said maybe I can find someone to use the van with.

So both vehicles are staying in the family and I couldn't be more happy. And the money I was going to receive from the sale I was planning on giving to the kids anyway. So instead of money, they have a car.

Today was my last session of chemotherapy. I will be having some targeted therapy every three weeks until early October. Sometime in March I will also be having radiotherapy for a week or two. Still today is one thing ticked off the list.

My sister just had both of her eyes done in the last couple of weeks. It is a routine procedure and I am sure she will be fine.

My mother had it done back in the '70s? '80s? They gave her the cataract in formaldehyde. She kept it on the mantle. Whenever anyone would come over, I would asked them what they thought it was. lol. When my sister told me she was going to have hers removed, I asked her if she was going to keep it. She said not no, but HELL NO!!!  :D ;D ;D ;D

Yes, I read the article you posted. They are working on improving the drugs all the time. It definitely isn’t always the debilitating treatment it used to be

Take good care, and it is good you are getting treatment straight away. I wonder could it be tinnitus or an allergy developing. When I have a headache I, if I get the chance to, have a sleep than keep taking paracetamol.

Get well soon.

I was advised to take some stronger pain killers which seems to have done the trick. If it hadn’t worked then I think they would have asked me to go to the hospital to be assessed. One of the nurses just telephoned to see how I was getting on.

That's funny because I am also having my annual eye exam, today. (And I didn't even study for it.) I'm sure mine in more in-depth than yours. They start with a visual field test (you look in a bowl and they flash lights and you press a button when you see the light). The test takes about 10 minutes or so for each eye and you hope you don't fall asleep because the room is dark and it is vey boring.

Then I have a regular eye exam, check to see if I need a new prescription for glasses (I have 3-reading, distance which I wear when watching tv, and computer which is halfway between the other 2). Then they dilate my eyes which I get to sit and wait for that to kick in as my vision gets worse and everything is blurry. After all that, I finally see the othomologist who shines bright lights into my dilated eyes. At least I have seen this guy enough so he doesn't say after all of that, "Oh, you have RP." (I have been to docs that have done that.) This guy is very good. He is probably one of the best othomoligist in New England.

I don't like this appointment but it is only once a year.

The first eye test you mention is done as standard here. They also check for glaucoma, measuring intraocular pressure by squirting some high pressure air into your eye. Hate this test. They only dilate the pupil if they spot something needing further investigation. Dai had it done a couple of times.

I didn't have to do a visual fields today. Next year, it will be done.

They no longer do the air puff test anymore (which I am very glad). There is another test that they still check fro glaucoma but doesn't use the air.

But, my vision is a bit on the blurry side right now because of the dilation.

The weirdest thing happen on the way into town today. There is a place where the train tracks cross the highway. When we got there, there was a train but the engine was pretty much stopped in the middle of the road. I said to my friend (who was driving), that as long as I have lived in this area, I don't recall getting stuck by a train there. But, then the train started inching along. Great. It should be out of our way in a bit. But then it stopped. Ok. How long was it going to be stopped for before it will get out of our way? But then it started backing up. WHAT??!!! It got to where the engine was in the middle of the road and it stopped again.  ??? ??? Meanwhile, traffic was piling up.

Then it started inching along once again. Ok. Hopefully, it won't take too long before it will be on its way and out of ours. But then it stopped again. And it started backing up AGAIN! WTF??!!! It inched its way back and across the road but it was still going. When it got several yards from the road, it stopped. But, it wasn't far enough for the flashing lights to be turned off. But, people started going anyway. Everyone could see the train and saw that it was stopped. It was a 4 lane highway. On our side, the lane we were in was moving but the person in front of the line in the other lane didn't go. When they noticed everyone was going, they finally went.

We must have been sitting there for about 10 minutes. It was really bizarre.
