All jabbed up. I had a Covid vaccine booked and they asked if I wanted my flu jab while I was there.

Anyways...back to work today. Time for the start of a new fiscal year. Things seemed to go well today; not too stressful. I'm just glad that the "crunch period" is in the books now.

As part of this I have to take some steroid tablets. I drove across to the hospital today to collect them. I have to take five on the morning of my treatment. I was given a fairly large bottle at the pharmacy that they then put in a sealed bag. When I got home to put them away I found they had literally given me five tablets!

If I want to give them the benefit of doubt maybe my dosage will be altered each time.

Go back and yell at them or go someplace else. They are free. Period.

From the CDC website, posted September 12, 2023:

Most Americans can still get a COVID-19 vaccine for free. For people with health insurance, most plans will cover COVID-19 vaccine at no cost to you. People who don’t have health insurance or with health plans that do not cover the cost can get a free vaccine from their local health centers; state, local, tribal, or territorial health department; and pharmacies participating in the CDC’s Bridge Access Program.

Thank you. If I had that text on my phone screen while I was in there, I would have shown it to the guy who assisted me. He said I could pay (an amount which I do not wish to disclose here) which generated a big “WHAT?!” response out of me. So I had no choice but to leave there empty-handed.

Still, I’m probably gonna call my health provider on Monday (during my morning break) and schedule an appointment. Preferably get one on a Friday afternoon or Saturday; that way if I feel any side effects from the injection, I won’t have to miss work.

We all know how much the Covid vaccine would cost if we had to pay out of pocket. You're not keeping any state secrets or anything. :D  But the plain fact of the matter is the government is providing it for free (as they are for Paxlovid, the pill for people who actually have Covid) and nobody should have to pay for it. Another vaccine that costs a fortune for the uninsured is the shingles vaccine (a big deal for people over 50), and unfortunately that one is NOT paid for by the government. (Unless you count Medicare, and you have to be 65 for that).

I have my annual coming up and I am sure they will want to turn me into a pin cushion-Covid, flu, shingles, and who knows what else not to mention a blood test. They offered the shingles one to me in past years but I declined, as I have with flu shots. I am not anti-vax, I just have a chronic case of needle-itis. Carlos used to hold my hand when I was getting a blood test. Last year he insisted that I get a flu shot because at his age, the flu could...well, you know.

Now, I don't have his hand to hold on to. I don't have him to make me chicken vegetable soup when I am feeling crumby after the shots. So, I am in a dilemma-shots or not? Oh, and mine are all free. I get them at the V.A.

Update - I still haven’t had any luck in scheduling an appointment yet. By the end of this week I will make an effort to get one. I just know that I don’t wanna have to drive so far away just to get vaxxed.

I went for my first dose of chemo today. It did not go according to plan. First of all they didn’t realise that I needed an injection before the drip. This took ages to come from the pharmacy. Then I only had a very small amount of the chemo drip before I had a massive reaction. My face, then the rest of my body, went totally numb, I felt hot and giddy and apparently I went bright red. I also had slight chest pains.

They stopped the drugs, gave me anti-histamines and oxygen. I stabilised fairly quickly I think, but it was horrible while it was happening.

I am going to talk to the consultant next week and get a new plan, probably start earlier in the day and have th drugs fed in more slowly.

My job is going well. In fact, today marked 7 3/4 years since I started there.

However, today the network connections were up and down during the first couple hours or so of the work day...and started going like that during the last hour or two of the day. Hopefully there'll be no problems when I'm there tomorrow.

Went to the hospital yesterday to try a slightly different treatment plan. More antihistamines and steroids beforehand and a slower flow rate. That just meant it took slightly longer for the numbness to start. I did recover much quicker this time and there was talk of reducing the flow rate even more. But in the end it is another talk with the consultant to discuss a slightly different medication.

Third time lucky!?

I recently quit my job that I hated, and I got a new one which I love.  The funny thing is that I was so excited to get the new job, I forgot to give notice to my old job that I was quitting, so just to be fair, I worked both jobs at the same time (the old one was overnights, the new one is dayshift) for just 1 week so I could give them a week's notice

Take it from me, don't ever work two 8 hour jobs at the same time.  The lack of sleep was not great.  I felt like a zombie while I was awake during the day lol

James came home for the weekend to help us move all the furniture from the house up north.

Dai hired a van and drove up Friday evening. I drove up in the car with James yesterday morning and we spent the day shifting furniture. We used the van to take some stuff to a charity shop (sofa and matching chair, office chair and a nest of tables). Dai also sold some stuff through a company sales and wanted page. We still managed to fill a van and the car. The only casualty was a set of long ladders. We took the roof rack up to fit to the car to bring the ladders home, but somehow a vital part was missing meaning the roof rack couldn’t be fitted. So the new owners have gained a set of extending ladders.

So no chemo this week. I should have spoken to my consultant on Tuesday to sort out a new plan. However some mix up meant he didn’t call. I have a face to face appointment with him for next Tuesday.

This did mean that Dai and I could go out last night. We had tickets to see Rich Hall, and also went for dinner.

We have been busy sorting out all the furniture and stuff we brought back from the house up north having finally moved out. The garage is chock full of wardrobes, beds, a dining table, etc. We have plans for most of it, but some of that is more long term (Elizabeth getting her first proper place next year). We could kit out several kitchens as we have stuff room Dai’s mum and my uncle as well as the stuff we just brought back.

Rich Hall is still around? I saw him back in the late '80s. We went to a comedy club about a week before his show. I think we had free tickets. We were sitting with another couple. I think one of us worked with one of them-can't remember. These were my smoking days and the other woman asked to switch seats because the smoke was drifting in their direction. Right before the show started, they said that there were free tickets to Rich Hall under some of the seats. Of course everyone reached under their seats to see. Yup, my seat had the free tickets. The woman was pissed because she was sitting there but switched with me.

When we went to see the show, they were there. They said that they also won free tickets from a drawing. So, she had forgiven me for the switched seats. And we enjoyed the show.

Nice on scoring the free tickets.

Yes, he’s doing a tour of Britain at the moment. We saw him in about 2018/19 as well. The show was a similar format but he obviously works with the audience for some material adapting songs to suit them, and the local area. He talked a bit about the local paper which is a shadow of its former self, which he seemed to realise. One joke bombed (it was a bit about the ABBA Voyage concert and I suspect something happened at one concert that he thought was news and the audience were unaware had happened), apart from that we were in stitches.

Around 20 years ago I would be attending radio show recording for the BBC, and he would appear again and again.

After a hectic week
And all and all is fine
I've managed to start the computer
And finally be online.

Good to know!

The weirdest thing happened today. I was in the kitchen and when I came into the living room, I saw a woman leaving my porch. (My doorbell is not working.) I stuck my head out the door and asked, "May I help you?" She told me that she heard that the house was going to be sold or rented and she was enquiring about it. She left a note when I didn't answer the door. (I really need to address that doorbell.) I asked her where she heard it. She wasn't sure-a neighbor? I just don't understand where the idea even came from. It is like everyone wants me to move-except me.

Just spent a while with Dai going through the various boxes and cupboards writing a list of all the household bits and pieces we have. Elizabeth’s boyfriend is about to move to a new place and will want some stuff. We have three microwave ovens, at least four kettles and toasters, three steam irons, several dinner sets, three sets of cutlery, endless drinking glasses, baking tins and saucepans...
