Well, it's usually like that in the summertime.

It was kinda hot today where I work, but not as bad as it was a few days ago. Thankfully my office is air conditioned.

Was sent home from work today - I probably shouldn’t have even gone in. I didn’t feel one hundred per cent yesterday and then I had a rough night. I came home and slept for a few hours. Still feeling a bit icky

Sorry to hear this.

Same as me, over the last few days, I feel as if I have flu on and off. Just resting with it.

So, yesterday and today we've had a couple of houseguests, namely two of my mom's cousins. They came over yesterday afternoon (while I was at work), went out to dinner with us in the evening, and stayed overnight. We made breakfast for them this morning. Not sure what time they plan on leaving, but they are out here for the holiday. It's just good to be able to have company at the house for the first time in over a year.

Mowed both the big and small parts of my yard today. 4 hours on the rider. One of the pulleys stripped out on the mower deck and only one side was cutting. New ones I would have to order. So I used a socket to center the nut onto the pulley and fired up my welder. Problem solved, finished the yard.

It was 70s and sunny so I loaded up with sunscreen and tried to get some color to myself while mowing. Between that and a weight machine I got in my basement where it’s like air conditioning, maybe I can try to look a little better.

Not sure if I’ll go out to fireworks tomorrow. Not a fan of the massive crowds. I just saw the ones last weekend at Freedom Fest. There’s also Venetian Fest later this month in the town where I work. I think they do fireworks every weekend up by the bridge too.

I spent the day with my family, too. We were at home all day. (For my mom, it's her first Sunday of retirement; not having to go to the church to do the music.)

Anyways, we cooked some food on the barbecue, spent time in the pool, and all had a good time together. :)

What I don't understand is why so many people don't realise how dangerous they are. They're supposed to be illegal in most neighborhoods.

The big ones for used to be illegal in Michigan for private citizens. The state realized how much money they were losing because people just brought them in from other states. So they made them all legal.

Local ordinances are free to restrict as they desire. Not like anything gets enforced though, just too many people doing it. At my old house there were pieces of spent fireworks lodged between my deck boards. Good thing they weren’t still hot. At my current house it doesn’t matter, I’m far enough away from everything.

I'm not big on fireworks. I like the pretty colorful ones but I don't like the noisy ones. If we could just have the visuals, I'm fine.

Many, many, MANY moons ago when Carlos still had his boat, we used to go out on Lake Champlain for an overnighter. We would anchor at a place where there wouldn't be anyone else and you can see the fireworks but we would be far enough away were we wouldn't hear them as loud. And the lights would reflect off the lake. It was pretty cool.

The boat was docked on Lake Champlain. (We live about a half hour away or so.) We used to sail up and down the lake for many years.

This is the moorings at our marina. Our boat was the one on the left in front (Big Dog). But, we sold it a few years ago.

So my birthday is coming up on Sunday. But my parents have ordered an early gift for me: a smartphone...which is scheduled to be delivered tomorrow! When I get home from work tomorrow I'll have to take some time to set it up. Then I can do lotsa things that I can't do with my stupidphone (the current one of which I've had for 8+ years).

I got mine 2 years ago from this date. Before that I never had high speed internet or anything so I’m still not totally used to the thing. I just do basic stuff on it. But it nice to have bank alerts, and be able to lock my card at a moment’s notice if need be.

Yep. And then I'm gonna decide on which apps I'll install on it.

Then of course I'm gonna need to finalize my plans for the big day! I know I'll be going out for dinner (something I couldn't do last year).

Thanks! (Hopefully someone will remember to make a thread for me in Send In The Clownfishies.)

I still have yet to finish setting things up on it. But yesterday I was able to block a call on it for the first time! (A number came up that I didn't recognise, so I was able to use the call-block feature on it - something that my stupidphone didn't have.)

New York had a total of 4-6 inches of rain.  :o

I don't know how much rain we had exactly. It didn't rain heavy.

I work in a school term time plus a few days. School finished yesterday lunchtime for the summer. We had a socially distanced drink and nibbles to celebrate the year end and also to have speeches and gifts for staff who are leaving.

Today we drove about and hour and a half south to meet Elizabeth, her boyfriend and his mum for lunch (Elizabeth had been staying with them for the week). We found a country park with a cafe that was about halfway between us. After lunch we had a walk around the park. The park was very busy with families. There were several birthday party get togethers

"Stupidphone".  ;D  ;D  ;D

I have what I referred to as a "dumb phone" (flip phone). We had to "upgrade" to an even dumber phone because they are doing away with 3G and our new dumb phone is a 4G. We only use it when we are traveling and as much as I hate AT&T, they are the only ones who will give us the plan we desire-pay by the minute. It used to be 10 cents a minute but then we forgot to plug in our new credit card so we lost that plan so now we pay 25 cents a minute.  ::) And I'm not really too impressed with this new phone. Luckily, we only have to use it occasionally.

LOL, I thought I was the only who used the phrase "dumb phone"!  My ex-colleagues from work thought I was funny for saying that.  I have a quote "smart phone" now, but it's not very smart.  Its storage is pretty much full to where I can't add any more apps, furthermore its Android operating system version is way outdated.  I keep it off most of the time anyway!  ;D

(I have thought off and on lately about an upgrade, but not too eager for the hassle of transferring everything...)

I know, right? :D It did the job for me; I could use it for calling/texting, but that's about all.

It actually still works, but I can no longer place/receive calls on it.

I use mine to listen to music, chat or text and answer phone calls too.

Yep, it comes with a browser...which I have yet to use for things besides my own email.

I do use this site on my Tablet's browser as well. (In fact, I was doing so for several days in a row last August after my previous laptop died on me and I had to order a new one.) I find that convenient for the most part, except I have a hard time copying and pasting...although there is a technique for doing that.

Later yesterday we heard from a friend of my mother in laws that my mother in law had been taken to hospital. The friend, Sandra, had popped round to see her by chance and found my mother in law, Jean, unable to bear any weight on her right foot/leg.

After quite a bit of faffing (waiting for a doctor to call back, being denied an ambulance, being insulted by a nurse on the phone, etc.) Sandra called her granddaughter who is a nurse to ask her advice. Eventually they manage to get Jean into Sandra’s car and take her to A and E.

All we know now is that Jean has been admitted to a ward. No one from the hospital has called Sandra or us (do know if Jean will remember our number and she probably won’t have her mobile with her). We have tried calling the ward but haven’t got anyone to answer the phone yet.

For just reading or browsing, or handling any bank app, the phone is nice. And it has a nice camera. But for any actual work including writing, copying and pasting, photo editing, the phone is an absolute nightmare. Also takes like twice as long to post anything. I’ll never give up my regular computer.

It certainly does. My mom has an Iphone as well and it takes great pictures. I even tested the camera on mine after I set it up and was amazed by the quality of the pic.

Agreed. I need to have an actual PC (whether it be a laptop or workstation) for most things. I usually feel more comfortable going to certain sites on that one instead of on a phone or tablet. A PC is especially more user-friendly when working from home, which I was doing for just about a whole year.

You've already composed the music and now you will be writing the lyrics? Different writers do it different ways. Some musicians write the music first and lyrics later, some do it at the same time. Some write the music to fit the lyrics. You never credit a co-writer so I assume music and lyrics are yours.

I have friends who arrange the music for me first. I always credit them. Then I write the lyrics. I like to listen to the music ahead of time it helps me place every one of the lyrics where they belong. That's what I did with "Sunflower".

Just yesterday I found out from a barber that I've been going to and that was My late friend's barber when he was residing in Bayside,Queens at the time, learned from a relative told him that he might have passed away, I'm sure you probably remember my friend Robert Klein, the guy who I always came to visit when he lived in Niskayuna and then after that he moved to Albany and then Amsterdam. His Mother had passed away in 2002 in New York at age 86 and his brother told Robert because he's too handicapped because of his seizure activity he needs to move to an assisted living home in Upstate. So I got to see him up until 2006 then we parted ways until we were able to see each other again, I got to talk to him over the phone and that was nice. It's just sad when you hear about a friend's passing, I feel bad because I wasn't able to visit him after 2006. I called his house and cell numbers a few years ago just to say hello but both his numbers were out of service so I wasn't too sure whether he was alive or dead and now I know.  :\'(

I liked Robert and the stuff we did during the late 90's like going out to eat then going back to his house into his room where watched a horror or science fiction film on VHS. The only thing I disliked was his smoking, I came home one day and my Mother smelled smoke on me and I told her that I wasn't smoking it was he who smoked, but after a while he cut down on them, I just feel bad now that he's deceased, now's he at peace with his Mother.  :\'(

This one group I'm in on Facebook, which involves "remembering" people who went to my high school, has updates on students AND staff who are no longer with us. I spoke to my mother in law yesterday. She has cellulitis, and I suspect it has been building up for some time. She has had leg pain/skin problems virtually the whole time I have known her so probably wouldn’t have noticed a small new thing.

She is on an antibiotic drip, and will be in hospital for at least a week.

Works fine for the most part. I run with signatures and all that stuff off. Posting pictures is kinda messed up but it works if you play around with it long enough.

Like if I take a picture, it’s too big so I email it to myself and choose a size reduction within the limits to this site. Then take that and save to files (not camera roll because for some reason this site won’t accept that). Then post my message but with no attachment or it will screw up. Come back and edit the message and add the attachment. Then if you wanna post it full size then click and copy the link and edit your message again and add the pic link. If it posts out of rotation, just deal with it.

Have fun!

Copying and pasting is awkward for me too.

I can't copy and paste on the Tablet or the iPhone either. I'm sure there's some sort of trick or tactic to do it.

If you tap / hold at precisely the right speed, it will start to select something. Then you can move the selection area. Still a pain and easy to do it wrong.

Yep, I've heard that's the way to do it...but you gotta do it at just the right moment. You're right about the last sentence.

If you have the system working, your photos can go straight into Google Photos, and also, straight into Dropbox. Which the two can be accessed on the computer/laptop.

Signing into my Spotify account earlier today, I was so happy to see that I have 699 listeners! And the number is going up. People from everywhere in the world are listening to my songs! It's very exciting! I guess all those hours writing lyrics, singing every note correctly, and just all of the effort put into every song really pays off in the end. I'm a happy girl!!

Spotify is a free streaming service, but you can upgrade to a premium account and get up to 3 months free. You can like and add songs to favorite playlists. Not sure if one can download music I will have to check.

So if I wish to keep my 'playlist' after the three months I have to pay?

I prefer a cheaper version...

I helped to move some things out of a condo, it was someone's vacation home but they recently sold it and didn't want a lot of the things there because they don't have room. The home has beautiful views out its windows. I was impressed with how quickly we were able to pack up some of the things inside, I'm just glad we didn't have to move any of the heavy furniture!

Decided to go up north for the afternoon. Shortly after I got there, they closed the bridge due to a bomb threat. They thought it was going to be closed for 24 hours so I got a campsite before they ran out. Bridge is open now, kinda wish it wasn’t because now I have to be at work in the morning. But I’ll stay with my campfire and maybe sleep in the back of the wagon and go back early. By then there will be no traffic.

I wouldn’t be surprised if after this, they cancel the bridge walk.  :\'(

We went down to Dai’s mum’s house for a couple of days. She is still in hospital. They allow one visitor a day for half an hour a day. Dai went on Thursday and Elizabeth went on Friday. She is improving, but is still only walk short distances.

The weather was lovely and sunny so we did a bit of gardening and went for a walk along the sea front.

On Saturday we went orienteering on a high open moorland area. On the way we had been joking that the day was coming when Elizabeth would beat Dai on the same course - as she gets fitter, and he edges slowly towards old age and decrepitude! Anyway that is exactly what happened. Elizabeth took it slow and steady and Dai went a bit headless chicken and lost by nearly ten minutes.

Elizabeth and I went to Durham earlier this week. Elizabeth starts her PhD there in a couple of months time so we went to look at accommodation. She had the option of living within a student college (so an en suite bedroom and shared kitchen) with a few hundred other students or renting a room in a shared house. She has decided to do the latter, getting a room in a bungalow with one other student.

I had chance to look around the cathedral while Elizabeth was meeting with her supervisor and the other members of the research group. I like looking at the memorials, the stained glass windows and all the random items you get in buildings this old. Annoyingly, for me at least, one chapel currently has some kind of arty light show. This meant several windows were blanked over to make the room dark and you couldn’t read the inscriptions on the grave stones. I am sure other people loved it.
