Written By: Dude111 on 01/29/21 at 1:02 pm
I have several concerts on VHS I always love watching :)
1) PHIL COLLINS: Seriously live (1990) -- Goregous . Over 2 hours of his BEST 80s songs
2) U2 - LIVE AT RED ROCKS (1983) -- Thier best concert ever
3) Woodstock 69 (1969) -- I got the first release in 1979 and it is sweet!! (Best music event ever)
4) Aerosmith - Texas Jam 78 (1978) -- This was thier last GOOD time in 1978 .... They sadly went downhill after this.....

I've got the Concert for Bangladesh on DVD which is kind of a rarity now even though it didn't come out that long ago. And the reason it took so long to come out on DVD is the first place is because even after all these years that concert and the recordings thereof are STILL tied up in litigation! All that Beatles Apple Records business NEVER gets untangled! I've also got a VHS of it I taped off of MTV. They broadcast it the night before Live Aid in 1985 in anticipation of the big event, since the Concert for Bangladesh was the predecessor to Live Aid in a way.

I don't know if I still have it but I used to have a VHS of Pink Floyd's The Wall: Live in Berlin with an all-star cast. I also have a DVD of Woodstock.

The DVD did come out. That's when I grabbed it. Then it went again. I see it selling for big money now. I'm glad I got it when I did. It also comes with a second DVD which is a documentary about the concert.
My MTV VHS has the commercials of the day on it, including commercials about the upcoming Live Aid. Historic!

I have the director's cut of "Woodstock" on VHS. Contains a lot more performances than the original. I've also got a VHS of "Woodstock: The Lost Performances", featuring a number of things that weren't in the movie.

It is the Director's cut that I have on DVD.

My favorite is a Laura Branigan concert from 1984. I saw it on Eye Music Network on my dish back in the late 2000s. Never could find it again. Until I found an eBay seller in Spain selling it so I grabbed it along with a 1990 concert DVD.
Others are The Highwaymen on PBS. Grateful Dead on PBS, had to have been one of Brent Mydland’s last performances.

Good topic!
A few off the top of my head -
- George Harrison and Friends, A Concert for Bangladesh (DVD, purchased)
- America, Soundstage 2005 Concert (DVD, purchased) - extra special because I was there
- The Band, The Last Waltz (DVD, copied from VHS recorded from broadcast)
- Cream, The 2005 Reunion Concert (DVD, recorded from broadcast)
- Talking Heads, Stop Making Sense (DVD, copied from purchased VHS)
About the America Soundstage 2005 Concert DVD, the concert set on the DVD was actually pared back a lot from the live show (which might be par for the course). I declare the group must've played for over 3 hours. It was a fantastic experience to be there, and the fact that they were recording it for TV didn't impact the atmosphere nearly as much as I thought (although one song had to be restarted due to a technical issue). I love the group - I didn't get to meet with them that night but have met them at other shows.

I have that PBS Highwaymen show on VHS also. That was a great show. Sad that two of them are gone now, and I read just yesterday that Kris Kristofferson is officially retiring now that he is 85. That leaves only Willie Nelson still performing.

In general lots of older performances from the 1950s, 1960s up until the 1980s. Rock, pop, folk, R&B, easy listening.

I have so many music videos from the 1990s on VHS tapes. Including the top 100 of 1995 on VH1. But I can't watch them because we don't have a VCR. I will have to transfer them into DVD format somehow.

Maybe get a few VCRs from resales along with a few tapes you don’t care about to make sure they work. I’ve always had the best service from Emerson VCRs. I always have multiple VCRs in my house so I have something to play my collection.

Might be cause its a DEMO TAPE and not a customer copy..... I am very happy with it though!
