We're already several hours into the new month and no thread was posted yet. Oddness.
Oh well, here it is now. Happy September, everyone!! :)

White rabbit!
Today I took the longest walk since last March, with a distance of 5km, and feel the pains right now.

For this reason it is still summer until then. Still, I agree with you; the last 2+ months went by quickly. :o
Today I did some housework, since it's not a work day for me.

Today I have not done much; I guess we all need days like that from time to time. But tomorrow (Friday)'ll be a work day for me; I already know I'm gonna be busy.

I am glad I don't have to go out anywhere during this Labor Day weekend. It is quite hot in So Cal and I'm glad I have a nice home to stay cool in. :)

Two straight days of having plenty of work to do (from home). But that's okay because it means I have a job, and I got all of it done. (I worked yesterday in lieu of Monday because Monday was a holiday.)

Soooo....
My birthday is coming up on the 16th...woohoo! I really don't have anything special planned. My mom wanted to go all out because I turn 40. But, I want a simple get together, and just have some good food and catch up with everyone. Should be nice!
In other, my right leg has been much better. Hopefully it will heal some more, but unfortunately arthritis does not heal. It only gets worse with age and time. So doing the best that I can to deal with it.
Hope everyone is doing well!

Happy early birthday!
I’m leaving this weekend for the hospital and going to have my esophagectomy surgery. Complicated procedure 6-7 hours long. I say it’s the equivalent of doing the head gasket in an engine. A lot of work just to get to it. My dad will house sit for me.
Tonight I washed and put away my wagon for winter. It will probably be snowing before I can drive again.

I hope you can have a nice day on Wednesday!
When I turned 40 a couple months ago, I was originally gonna have a nice party, but instead my parents had some of my friends come by the house at curbside to wish me a happy birthday (briefly), and that all worked out nicely. My mom also made me a nice dinner.

Yesterday was my dad’s 80th birthday. My dad and my two brothers and their families came round in the afternoon for buffet tea in our garden so we could sit socially distanced. My nephew came along, and we haven’t seen him for years.
Today is mine and Dai’s wedding anniversary. We are not doing anything special as I am still not fully fit.

Speaking of weddings/anniversaries, a dear friend of mine and her fiance were supposed to tie the knot today (they had made the plans a year in advance after getting engaged last summer), but they postponed their wedding due to Covid concerns, and so they have tentatively rescheduled it for next April.

Today (Monday) was a drive-to-work day for me. I'm gonna be doing this once a week for the next few weeks now, because my company's fiscal period is coming to a close, and things have been exceptionally busy this year. And I was quite busy, once I got into the office.
I'll be working from home again this Wednesday.

Thanks for the wishes everyone. I made it through surgery and I am recovering in the hospital bed. They couldn’t do the esophagectomy because the blood supply was damaged by my previous surgeries. It would have had a 50% failure rate with no going back. So they did another stretch, did a stomach wrap, and fixed the hiatal hernia. It was still a 6 hour surgery. So when I recover I’ll find out how well it worked.

Tonight was our last school event for James. It was prize giving for the boys in the last four years of school.
Normally we would all cram into the school hall for an hour or two, endless applause and several speeches. However tonight it was a fairly brief affair conducted via Microsoft Teams. The headmaster and the chair of governors gave speeches and the various heads of year read out the lists of boys who had won the various subject prizes.
James won a prize for Public Recitation in a Classical Language and also for creative writing. He has never won a prize at school before so I don’t know what he gets. Elizabeth won some book tokens, so I imagine it will be something similar

I did something today that I haven't done in a couple of decades-I got a flu shot. I am NOT anti-vax. I am anti-needle. I have a chronic case of needle-itis. Carlos' doc (and a friend) every year wants to give me one and Carlos will say to him, "Good luck with that." This year I felt that I need to. So, as I was getting my annual lab work done, I also got a flu shot.
Me having a needle is NOT pretty. Carlos is so kind that he will hold my hand. I know it sounds...um...well, you know. And to top it off, the woman who always does the blood work is AWFUL! She is nice but man, it is always painful-even the tourniquet. And today she informed me that she is retiring this Friday. Why couldn't she have retired LAST Friday? ::) Oh well. I don't have to deal with her anymore. (And she wasn't the one who gave me the flu shot-she just draws blood.) After she took my blood, she asked, "What made you so fearful?" I was about to say that she hasn't really helped in that matter over the last several years.
Now I am SOOOOO super tired I can barely keep my eyes open. I laid down for a little bit but I guess not long enough.

I hate needles too. There were a couple nurses in the hospital who were really bad at it. And I told them what they did. But dealing with needles all my life, I have to say that a nurse can be good enough at it to where you barely feel it. Every time I encounter this I make sure to tell them they did a good job. It’s something that requires a lot of finesse to do it well.
I had probably a half dozen iv’s fail just in this visit alone. One time 2 nurses spent a half hour with an ultrasound machine trying to find 2 spots. After those failed, the next nurses just looked and spotted a place without even touching me. They were done in like 2 minutes.

One of the nurses who works at Carlos' docs office, took my blood once. I hardly felt it. Much better than that woman I have been dealing with for years at the V.A.
One time I had blood drawn for something-can't remember what. The VERY next day, I was informed that I had to go for an AIDS test (and I didn't even study for it). I told the woman that I just had blood drawn the day before and that my left arm is the only place she is going to get blood. She said not to worry so she went to my RIGHT arm and stuck me. Of course she didn't didn't get blood-which I TOLD her she wouldn't. So, she went back to my left arm and stuck me again. She must have gone through the vain because she didn't get much out of it. I told her, "That is because it was all taken out yesterday." My arm was bruised and it hurt for THREE WEEKS after.

That took most of my morning hours... and then after my lunchbreak I started on my normal tasks, but couldn't get through all of them because there was so much to do. :o Hopefully I can get 'em all done from home on Friday.

In previous years I have taken part in a sponsored run to raise money for Cancer Research UK, known as Race for Life. Originally they were women only events, and the money raised funded research into cancers specific to females. More recently they have have races open to all.
This year, due to Covid, all the events have been cancelled, so today across the U.K. people did their own 5 kilometre course and registered it as a Very 2020 Race for Life. I did a loop around the streets near my house, and friends on Facebook have sponsored me. So far I have raised £120.

It was cool out this morning but brightened up in the afternoon so Dai and I went for a walk.
I helped Dai empty the shelves on the study and we bought some paint. Dai has made a start in painting the walls. I spent the time making some face masks for James to take away with him. They are half black and half red pas these are his college colours

The sun came out here, btw, and we decided to use our pool at around 4pm or so. All went well with that... until I accidently scraped my right foot on the floor of the pool. :( :( So I had to get out immediately and give it some first aid. So now I'm resting it.
Fortunately for me, I don't have any place to travel to tomorrow or the next day (although I work from home tomorrow), so I can let the scrapes heal without too much trouble.

That reminds me, I need to call my doctor's office this week and ask about their availability. I tried calling earlier this month, but the person I spoke with said that they wouldn't know until the end of this month.
After my blood test, I have been feeling more tired for the day.

Had my Blood Test and Flu Job this morning, in one arm and out of the other.
Did you study for the blood test?

So, today was certainly a very busy last day of the month for my work. So busy that I had to stay an extra hour to complete everything.
