Tired now.
Busy week at work, also panicking as I've realised how close to Christmas it really is (I've been in denial).
This morning I did a 5km parkrun and took two minutes off my personal best time! I joined up with a friend of mine and she more or less bullied me round.
Then this afternoon I drove to Cambridge to fetch Elizabeth's stuff. She is going for an orienteering training week and will come home next Saturday.
Morris dancing tomorrow afternoon for the Christmas lights switch on in a nearby village.

So, today I went to the library to do my volunteering; I didn't go last week because I was not well. But today, when I got in, there was a Thanksgiving greeting card for me, signed by all the staff members! (I couldn't thank them all, since they were not all in today, but next time I see them I will be sure to thank them, one by one.) They probably felt bad that I had to miss the annual holiday party (due to my being on vacation on the day it occurred), so giving me a holiday card (with a little gift inside) was certainly a nice gesture. :)

Had to drive to work in the rain this morning...so I was extra careful. I made sure not to follow too close, and drive slower than I usually would due to the roadways being wet. When I came home, the roads weren't wet at all, since the rain was done passing through.

That works too!
I actually still have some sweatshirts that I've had since highschool, and this past June marked 20 years since I graduated from there! I honestly never expected some of my clothes to last that long...guess they were made of fine fabric that doesn't fall apart after being laundered regularly.

Nearly the end of term for us. That means extra tidying and sorting of equipment to make sure all labs are restocked. PLus extra fun (and messy) experiments required by the teachers. Still we've had chocolates and cups of tea supplied to keep us going.
I've been super busy at work the past couple of weeks. One (organised) member of staff is leaving and her teaching has been taken over by a teacher returning from maternity leave (who is chronically disorganised). Lots of very last minute requests and then experiments not done (because she doesn't know how to). Hopefully she will take some of the holiday time to catch up.
We are away on vacation next week - ski-ing in the Alps. So I've tried to get myself organised with present buying and wrapping as I won't have my usual week to do it. Still need to write cards and decorate the house.

Went to see a performance of A Christmas Carol. We were very disappointed in it considering we know the director and most of his productions are OUTSTANDING! (We also know a few of the people who were in the cast.) We believe they pretty much throw this show together pretty quickly because a lot of people had trouble with their lines. Our major complain was not being able to hear because a lot of the performers were not projecting their voices. It was a good thing we didn't have to pay to see it-just a few non-perishables for a local food shelf.

You do more for the Solstice than I do. Usually, I just recognize the Solstice in my heart (like I do for all the other sabbats-the only one I really do anything for is Samhain). This year we aren't even going to have a tree because we are celebrating Christmas at the kids' house.

We don't normally put on a big production, but this has been a rough year- a year of big ups and big downs, and we just want to start everything fresh and have fun. My daughter pointed out that I don't do much for the Sabbats so I am making an effort. ;D Samhain is our big Sabbat but we are just in the holiday mood! For most Sabbats I do just like you. Recognize it with some peaceful meditation on the day or night, maybe light a candle.

My daughter pointed out that I don't do much for the Sabbats so I am making an effort. ;D Samhain is our big Sabbat but we are just in the holiday mood! For most Sabbats I do just like you. Recognize it with some peaceful meditation on the day or night, maybe light a candle.
I think I might have told you what I do for Samhain. I have a votive candle in a star-shaped candle holder. And around that, I have 10 tea lights. I light the votive and then I light all the ones around-saying the names of people I want to recognize. The first one is usually my mother-or Carlos' mother. Some people get their own tea light but toward the end many people are grouped together-like one tea light for aunts & uncles. I usually try to have one tea light for anyone that we forgot because there is ALWAYS someone I will forget. :-https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4827/46333205902_0e455c834b.jpg

Still struck down by the dreaded lurgi (flu), it has stopped me doing the Christmas Cards, and my Christmas shopping. It is also painful to hold a pen to write...
Sorry to hear of this; hope you feel better as soon as possible! Get lots of rest!

Just got back today from a week's skiing in the French Alps with the family.
I caught a stinking cold so had one day lazing in the apartment, but otherwise had a reasonable week. I am a fairly nervous skier, but managed a few long blue runs (the hardest I've ever skied), and only started sobbing once!
Now we've got the frantic race to get everything finished for Christmas. Dai is going to fetch his mum tomorrow to stay with us until the new year. My dad and his friend Margaret are coming round on Boxing Day (26th)

We flew to Birmingham. There was a family checking in at the desk next to us who'd swapped their flights from Gatwick to Birmingham.
Not sure what will happen next year - though I will need a new passport later next year - maybe it will be in a blue cover!

She was an alcoholic, She just enjoyed drinking and drinking in the morning, afternoons and evening. She was 42 but her body looked like she was 82 or even 92, she was frail and weak had bad skin and yellowish eyes the last time I saw her. People were trying to tell her for years to get off the booze but she was quite stubborn to understand the truth that a whole lot of drinking will one day mess up your heart and liver and now she paid the price. If you know someone who's an alcoholic please try to talk some sense into them.

The thing is, alcoholism is a disease and getting someone to stop isn't easy. They have to WANT to stop. I knew someone who was an alcoholic. Went through two rehabs and neither one took. He kept saying, "I'm an alcoholic but I can drink." There was no telling him, "No, you can't drink. You don't know when to stop." Of course it all caught up to him. He literally drank himself to death at the age of 28. Unfortunately, I was married to him when he died.

Similarly, I had a maternal uncle who pretty much drank himself to death. He'd had hepatitis and never did anything about it. In just a few months it'll be 20 years since he passed away from liver disease.

Sometimes you feel sorry for that person who drinks themselves to death, it is real hard for them to stop and they themselves have a choice to stop on their own or have an intervention.

You should have sympathy for the people AROUND those who can't stop drinking. It is really hard to live with an alcoholic-or any kind of addict. Believe me, I know. It is hard for people to see their loved ones throwing their lives away and can't do anything about it. And interventions don't always work. Again, I know from experience. Been there, done that.

I felt sorry for Rosa but you have to help yourself, The people around her tried to get her to stop but she didn't want any help. And the thing is, she hardly ate any food, like get some nutrients in her, that's why the way she looked she was withering away. Drinking booze almost all the time does take a toll on you later on in life and it will hurt the people who loved her the most.

Today I went to work for the only time this week (Tuesday was a holiday, which I am getting paid for). Then afterwards I went over to the library to bid farewell to a staff member who has worked there for 30+ years; this woman had served as volunteer coordinator for part of that time (however, her primary title has been Circulation Manager); she had posted a typed letter in the circulation room indicating she was going to retire from her position there, so this afternoon on my way home from work I wanted to stop by there to give one final goodbye. So I did that; she was very glad to see me (of course, all the library staff members there are real nice) and I gave her a big hug before I left. :)
