Over here in the UK, charities are the winners, but a few years back the most I won was £75 having drawn four numbers.

The chances of winning are 1 in 45 million (or more depending on the rules), so it is unlikely you would ever know anyone who won the big prize.

Absolute waste of money.  There is also a disconnect in the thinking of the people who buy these habitually.  For example, if over a period of three weeks a person spends, say, $300 on scratch tickets and then wins $50 on one of them (an extremely rare occurrence in and of itself) they jump up and down and say "I won $50!!". No you didn't, you lost $250.

Yeah, sometimes there are 5 or 6 (or more) balls, and the numbers on them can be, say, 1 to 55 in one of them, and 1 to 70 in the next, making more combinations possible. TBH, like I said, I don't play lottery, so I am not acquainted with the precise rules, but every lottery makes slight modifications. I mainly just remember learning in high school math class the futility in gambling ;D

Over here is was to chose 6 number from 49 numbers (along with a bonus ball) for a £1, now (and I do not play it) the number of balls has been raised to 59.

Yes but they must take the taxes so you're left with the remaining lump sum.
