My Parents on Friday will be celebrating 49 years and next year will be their 50th Anniversary. :)

Busy at my work again today...but that's okay, because that means I have a job. And I enjoy it.

However, I had to deal with some heavy traffic on the roads coming back home, likely due in part to the fact that the Ventura County Fair has just begun (and many people are likely flocking to it).

Anyhoo, my 20 years class reunion is tomorrow night, but I have just made the decision not to go. The only food scheduled to be served is hors doeurves (no full dinner), and there are only about 50 people confirmed to show up (many of whom are classmates I actually knew). In addition, it's a long drive from my house, so I don't think it would be a good use of my money to buy a ticket and not have a good time. So I went on Facebook, found the event, and changed my RSVP from "Going" to "Can't go."

We went up to the Lake District last week for a week of orienteering. We stayed in the new house which is on the edge of the Lakes and so had a couple of long drives.

The summer has been really hot here in the UK but of course we managed to get some days of rain last week (those lakes have to get their water from somewhere!). We also had one really hot day and we all got a bit sunburnt as we didn't believe the weather forecast and so forgot to pack suncream.

Last night I went out with a group of friends - we had all lived in Connecticut when our husbands worked out there.  We get together occasionally for a meal and last night it was to see Jo who has settled in the US but is over for a visit.

Had a busy day at work and came home later than usual due to congested traffic on the roads. Could be people trying to escape the heat, and/or people going to the Ventura County Fair.

when I asked, I got a call back that the stuff that needs to be done before my training is being finalized.  This is going to be a job exploration thing

Dai's uncle died a couple of weeks ago. The funeral is this Tuesday. Dai can't get time from work so I'm driving down to Dai's mum (with James) to take her to the funeral. I'll just be with her for a couple of days as I am out dancing with the Morris dancing group on Wednesday evening.

Anyways...last night my parents & I went to see a 'Backstage with the Beatles' presentation, hosted by Bob Eubanks, at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza. Bob himself was there to present his stories (with visual aids) about how he helped organize the Beatles' concerts in California in 1964, '65, and '66. It was quite interesting. There was also a Beatles tribute band onstage to perform various Beatles songs.

so today (Friday) was a stay-at-home (for the most part) day for me; that gave me time to go through some of my boxes in the garage, and see what I could eliminate. Mostly it was books that I got rid of (ten of them, which I felt I no longer needed), so I'm going to donate them to the library when I go there tomorrow.

So yesterday was my birthday but we didn't do anything in particular to mark it (happens when you get older!). I mean I got cards from family and lots of friends messaged me on Facebook but didn't go for a meal or anything.

In the evening I went to Morris dance practice with Elizabeth and we taught some of the other dancers a new dance.  It took most of the night to work out the chorus we had devised. It's one thing to draw out dance positions and another to get people to move to each new position in time with the music


Today was exam results day for James.  He did very well in some subjects and passed all the others, so he can go on to study the subjects he wants to do for A-Level

Edited to add: The skygarden thing gets booked up very quickly - they only allow so many visitors in for each time slot. New times are released on a Monday for the following week. You need to be on-line when they are published (just after 10am)

Anyhoo, today has been mostly a stay-at-home day for me, except when we went out for dinner later.

We went out to celebrate a new employment position that my dad now has: church bulletin editor (for the church we attend). He is still writing news stories as freelance work, but this is another position in which he can also work from home.

Went to the library for a couple hours today to do my volunteering; then I came home and had lunch. Not sure if I'll be going out again later today, though.

I have arrived in Edinburgh! :D

The hilly and mountainous North English and Scottish countryside were breathtaking! Unfortunately I couldn't get any good shots since it was so cloudy and dark, as it usually is here. :P

So. Essentially boils down to this.

Worked out my finances and was able to go to a college 3 hours from home.

I was promoted to a team lead in my department at work.

Had a great summer. but it wasnt as good as 2017.

My parents found out somehow I was gay and forced me to out myself and it wasn't pretty and something I'm still trying to move on from.

Accepting myself more and more for who I am. A gay man.

We camped with others from our club and took part in several races.  Friday and Saturday were warm and sunny, but it rained on Sunday so we got pretty wet and cold.  Thankfully it stopped and today was generally warm.

We won a few prizes over the weekend (Dai, James and Elizabeth in three different relay teams, Elizabeth and Dai in the two day individual competition and the family quiz prize).


Now there's just all the kit and clothes to wash/dry/put away. Back to work/school next week

The last time this happened it was the thermostat breaking on the oven.  And it was this time as well.  Thanks to the power of Facebook I worked out that the thermostat breaks every 23 months (28 October 2014, 24 September 2016 and today).  Time for a new oven I think

They don't produce any venom as far as I know.

You could probably just poke it to make it jump/fly off if you really wanted to, but they will go away by themselves after a while anyway
