I have a college degree and used to work but I also have a condition that has a tendency to send people into depression (an autoimmune illness that destroys my thyroid gland). I've probably been suffering from it since my very early teen days but it wasn't diagnosed until I was 25 or so and the depression + some other things were not diagnosed until 4 years ago. The problem with depression is that it makes it impossible to focus on what you're doing so even easy jobs that don't require much brain power become impossible. Another thing is that you can never completely get rid of depression once it was contracted. Even if (temporarily) defeated it will always be there just waiting in the background for an opportunity to strike again so the chance of relapsing is comparatively big and employers know that so they tend to not hire people who suffered from it. That means no job and that means no self confidence and a feeling of being worthless and that means more depression... a nice vicious cycle. Oh well, I haven't given up yet. I'm in therapy and the job market looks quite promising right now. We'll see. :)

It's not much better down here. Friday we had tornadoes to the east of us and blizzards to the west at the same time. Nebraska may be a boring state but the weather here sure as hell isn't.
