Subject: When you rate a movie...
Written By: 80sfan on 05/18/14 at 5:52 pm
..what do you consider? Is it the acting? The dialogue? The music and scenery? The 'hot' girls or guys? The originality/creativity?
:)

Entertainment, pure and simple.

I agree. Sometimes the bad acting is so funny it becomes entertaining. ;D

depends on the movie...
I can forgive bad dialogue if the acting is good (or the actors are good looking) or if it's an action flick...
in my drama's tho I really want good writing.
I like seemless directing. If I can watch a film and forget who's directed it I'm happy... but really good directing turns me on... what I hate is directing that overpowers a film... particularly if the director is really artsy and seems to be making choices based on style rather than substance. There's a film called suspect zero....one of the worst movies I ever watched partially because of the writing but mostly because of the director. sadly it has Aaron Eckhardt and Ben Kingsley in it so you'd expect a better film.

Can't Stop the Music is hands down one of my favorite "bad films" I have watched it 150 times.... and I will watch it again soon as I get some free time. ;D

Exactly. Saw Godzilla yesterday...plenty of things didn't add up but it was entertaining and I loved it.

Yeah, 'artsy' in excess can cross the line into pretentiousness. The trick for the director is to balance technique and 'art', at least that's what I'm thinking.

When I watch a film I judge my rating by how much I am 'gripped' by the film. If the acting, script, or any other part in the production of the film is 'bad' my 'gripped' interest has gone.

Initially, it is the pure entertainment factor. Was I still buzzing about it when I left the theater? Then after that has all died down ... Is it still memorable? Dp I want to go again?
Many movies are pretty much forgotten as I leave the theater. In fact, I usually vcant even recall some movie titles that I have seen. If it's a good one ... I'll remember all about it ... and probably, researched the actors and what else they may have been in.

Thanks for reminding me, that is another way I rated how good a film is, by saying how soon I wish to see it again. "The King's Speech" was as soon as possible for me, and saw within a fortnight. If I do not wish to to the film, means it was bad!

I rate a film based on acting and the dialogue.
