At the risk of sounding dumb, why do people say "white rabbit" at the beginning of the month?
From wiki:
""Rabbit rabbit rabbit" is one variant of a common British superstition which states that a person should say or repeat the word "rabbit" or "rabbits", or "white rabbits", or a person should say "bunny bunny foot foot", or some combination of these elements, out loud upon waking (or first moment) on the first day of the month, because doing so will ensure good luck for the duration of that month."

I had a great time at the party, btw. There were nine people there, including me and the host. :) After we ate, we played a little game called 'Apples To Apples', which I was not familiar with until last night. In fact, everyone seemed to have a good time.

If it is what I think it is, I have heard of that game. We went to a restaurant for lunch one time and there was a family at the next table playing it. It sounded like a very interesting game and I asked them what it was.

Btw, my grandma's funeral was today. The service went well, and it seemed rather joyful to most of the attendees because they knew my grandma as a very good person. My mom's coworkers even showed up (which they were planning to do) to show support, as did two of my dad's coworkers... even if it meant traveling a long distance on the road. My grandma's neighbors, who also came, even sent me a sympathy card in the mail.

Spring is in 15 days and also we have to turn the clocks this weekend one hour so that's a good thing. I think it will eventually get warmer and melt the rest of these mountains of snow.

I don't know what it is about March, but it always goes by fast for me, even faster than February ironically!
My guess is it's the split from March 20 (spring) and before. The countdown to spring makes the month go by faster, add on that there's more sunlight in March, yeah, the month zooms by.

So I just finished my sixth week of the Accounting Program, and I have completed Chapter #8 of the Accounting textbook. So, this weekend I will be studying all that I've learned in those eight chapters, and take a test on it on Monday. I don't think it should be too difficult; however, I need to make sure I understand everything real well. Still, I have confidence that I will do great. :)

Personally, I think this is stupid. There was a time when it was useful but now it is not. And they keep pushing it further & further. There was a time when we would change the clocks at the end of April & changed back at the end of Oct. Then they pushed it to the beginning of April and now the beginning of March & we change them back at the beginning of Nov. WHY BOTHER??!!! There are many places that don't change-Arizona, some parts of Indiana, & Puerto Rico. I'm sure there are other places. That is one of those things that I don't feel it is necessary.

Yesterday we went up to the Peak District to meet up with friends and go walking. It is a big enough group to split into activities for all abilities. One group did some serious rock climbing, Dai and Elizabeth did a ten mile walk, James and I joined a group that walked about 5 miles but had a reasonable amount of up and down hill to it and the last group caught a train down the valley and walked back alongside the canal (about 3 miles or so)
It was supposed to be warm and sunny yesterday but the sun didn't come out until after we'd finished walking. Still we had an enjoyable time, with a lunch stop in a town park complete with café (great cakes!)
Many people were stopping at a hotel in the town but some of the group live nearby and we went around there to shower before we all got together for a meal in a local pub. The reason for this get together was the birthday of one of the founder members of the group.
We drove home last night and went straight to bed!

They do in some parts of the U.S., including Hawaii (and possibly Alaska, altho I'm not sure on that).
It gets tiring every 6-8 months changing clocks back and forth.

So tired. My mom is selling her house and this was the first Saturday of really heavy moving to get it ready to go. I haven't moved that much furniture in a long time. I am gonna be sore tomorrow.
How long has she lived in the house?

It was originally my grandparents house, they bought it new in the 50's, so my mom was raised there. When my grandpa died in 2001, mom took the house. She loves it, but the yard is getting to be too much for her to take care of.
The only parts of me that are sore this morning are my right foot for some reason and my neck. Then again my neck has been bothering me all week. Guess I survivied it better than I thought I would.

When someone has lived in a house that long, all I can think of is that they have TONS of stuff. I have only lived in this house since 1998 and the crap we have accumulated it unreal. Of course we keep buying stuff for our "business" and I did acquire a lot of stuff when we cleaned out both of my parents house. I'm not looking forward to that aspect of moving.

Very much like my late grandmother's house, which my mom has co-owned since 1985 (when my grandfather passed away). My grandmother lived in that house for 51 years (buying the place when it was brand new in early 1963), so there is plenty of stuff that needs to be sorted through before it can be put on the market. In fact, my parents are headed out there right now to do some more cleaning up in there.

Wow, let me tell you I had the time of my life this afternoon. My Mother had me fooled today and when she told me that we're going out to eat at a small restaurant on Sunday for brunch I said "sounds great". My Mother she's the best, when she does something she goes all out of her way to do it and she takes my hand and sitting in the back were My uncles and aunts and my best friend Randy with his girlfriend and I was just stunned, I was just grinning from ear to ear and I said to myself, wow people really do care. Laying on the table My mother created a few candy wrappers with a baby photo of me to hand out to people, how cute was that. :) I also got birthday balloons with the number 40 on it plus I got presents and birthday money too as well. It was really a great day, I'm so glad they all shown up! :)

Okay, so today (Monday) was quite a busy day for me. First of all, I had a test on the first eight chapters of the Accounting textbook, and I feel I did well on it for the most part. (However, I know I missed at least one item because it didn't occur to me until after I submitted my test for grading that I didn't do it right.) I was then given a little assignment in which I am supposed to do everything I learned in all these chapters (journalizing transactions, post them to the general ledger, use this info to prepare an income statement and a balance sheet, and make adjusting entries); this will take a few days to complete, but I hope to get it done by Thursday. I even stayed past 4:00 to see how much of it I could get done there before coming home.
Then when I finally got home (after 5pm), I helped my mom prepare dinner...and later washed ALL the dishes.
So, hopefully I will sleep well tonight.

I was in college for 10 years before I finally earned a degree. Seven of those years were spent at Cal State Northridge. The reason being that I changed majors ten years ago, since my original major was not working out well for me at all.

I hear ya. Nowadays, it's 7 months a year (at least over here) when the time on my clock is actually one hour inaccurate - that's more than half of the year!

I just now checked out the clip. Interesting stuff. (Including the part with Eric Spillman, the field reporter, in downtown L.A., although I'm sure he was probably there to report on something else.) Btw, I watch that morning news program semi-regularly, sometimes at that hour if I'm awake and don't have anywhere to go.

Another busy weekend in the Karen household. We are all going up to the Lake District early Saturday morning for some orienteering coaching. Dai has organised the maps and courses and we will both be coaching juniors (including Elizabeth and James). I am doing the food for the evening meal (about 24 people) and after a night sleeping on a hall floor we will be heading home (though the others have another day of coaching).
Elizabeth and James are singing in a performance of Carmina Burana at a concert hall in the nearby city. It should be a good evening.
Please can I have a weekend off?

Well... this weekend my family and I have booked a cruise for November. But it's only going to be a brief 3-day cruise, with only one port of call (in Mexico). This will be to celebrate my mom's birthday, which is the Friday of that weekend.
I know it's only 8 months away, but it's something we are all looking forward to.

That would be frowned upon - they take the concerts very seriously! I didn't even dare take a photo.
I did notice a very discreet camera that was filming the main stage. So if I find out where the video is I will try and post a link to it.

Took the Jeep to Carmax and sold it tonight. It kind of feels like I sold part of my family. It was my dad's, now it's gone. I got $1000 out of it, though. Not bad, considering I sold it to a car dealership that was going to auction it off to another dealership. He said he was surprised at how good of condition it was in for as old as it was. I took the money and ran. ;D

No. I just had a bad feeling about it in the pit of my stomach. It didn't seem right or safe. It was in better condition than I thought, but it still had some driving quirks that worried me with a new driver. I will use the extra I save on insurance and whatnot and save up for a decent car for her graduation. Not that far off when you think about it.

How freaking cool!
It was cool.
Dule hill (from Psych) was there. He and arsenio played a game. Right where the kissing happened. During the commercial Dule turned, saw me and pointed (cuz he remembers me from the numerous times I've met him), he said bye when he left. There's typically no personal interaction at talk shows so that was fantastic!!!

Has been an execrable month for me. :-\\
Now my parents are retired and I see their mortality plus a grim, bleak future for me (assuming the death clock isn't right about me dying in 2017 or 2025 depending on the site used, I hope that's the case, preferably 2017), I don't see either parent lasting much longer (my dad is as stressed as me and always in a hurry, and eats a lot of red meat & fried food, so that's heart attack, stroke or aneurism material, and my mom is the same way plus being a hoarder and rarely getting out of bed), I have so-called caregivers who see me only as a cash cow and a blank canvas to create a boring normal person from, and they want me in a group home or civilly committed for a number of reasons, and I have alienated most of the rest of the family for being boring child-centric fundamentalists who I've always been negatively compared to and who ridicule me for getting expelled from the high school all the kids in the family went to & permanently staining the family name there. Carrying on family names means nothing to me, if I were to have kids I would give them other last names derived from the Dark Tower, Anne Rice, Willow or Tolkien universes, and that along with other surnames in the family is already being done by relatives in Texas, Alabama, Arkansas, South Dakota, Illinois, Georgia and Idaho.
And here's my 5-year plan...
get driving legally in my great-aunt's van, get a job and savings accumulated, get out of low-income housing (sucks and is full of skanky trash), throw my caregivers and my so-called "benefits" out on their arses, find other, more social hobbies to go along with diecast and photography (thinking about airsoft and vintage console gaming) get healthcare through Obamacare if my job doesn't include it, get a job and autism & PTSD support groups lined up in the Denver area and take the Chevy van and a U-Haul trailer out there... my family says I can't do it and will never survive in an area where I have no family and weather conditions are extreme at times, my program says I cannot survive outside this area if I can even survive independently, but I'm kicking their arses out. Planning on either working the warehouse and going up from there in a craft brewery or cider maker, or working my way up to eventual management if not ownership of a brewpub or cider house wherever I end up, and working anywhere I will be accepted, make a decent wage with REAL benefits and enjoy what I'm doing while I'm still here.
Why the Denver area, you may ask? Big city, four-season climate, lots of social, recreational and work opportunities, highly ranked as a good place to live, legal cannabis (beneficial for my bipolar, anxiety and PTSD), and far from my family.
And here's the van I'm gonna buy:

First full weekend at home in about 2 months.
So we caught up on laundry and ran the vacuum cleaner about the place, etc.
Today is Mothers Day in the UK so we went out for a nice lunch. James made me a cup of tea this afternoon and I've been lazing around reading my book most of the afternoon. though I did go across to the crematorium and put flowers on my mum's and my grandma's memorials.
Just waiting for the evening meal to cook.
Today was also the start of British Summer Time so we've been changing all the clock. I bet we'll find one that we've forgotten about.

So I have this week off from my studies. (The V.A.C.E. is closed all week long.) And I have at least one thing planned for each day this week; I will even manage to do a little studying each day so that when I go back next Monday, I will have not forgotten anything. In fact, this past Friday, my instructor encouraged me to bring home my accounting textbook and study it during the break, so that I don't forget anything.

Thanks...but tomorrow might not be too "relaxing" because my mom and I are gonna go to my grandma's house to do more cleaning up and organizing and stuff of that nature...

Back in the 70s I once did see it snow on a Good Friday, I cannot precisely remember which year.

My dad and brother remember St George's Day parade being cancelled because of snow
Over the years I have always wondered which year it was, if it was the same year and a bit of research, possibly it could be worked out.

My dad and brother remember St George's Day parade being cancelled because of snow
From St Georges News
"Eight inches of snow would have made Saturday the third heaviest snowfall in St. George since 1919. Even 6 inches of snow would have been more snowfall than St. George has seen since Jan. 1974."
1974 sounds about right for me.
Dates of Easter in the 1970s
11th April 1971
2nd April 1972
22nd April 1973
14th April 1974
30th March 1975
18th April 1976
10th April 1977
26th March 1978
15th April 1979
From the dates it now looks like 1973, with St Georges Day falling on Easter Monday.
From Met Office:
"Snowy Easter
Easter 1-3 April 1983 was the snowiest Easter with Scotland, the Midlands and Kent getting up to 10 cm of snow. Over the past 45 years, snow has fallen quite regularly, even in lowland areas. Years in which snow has been recorded include 1958, 1965, 1970, 1973, 1975, 1977, 1978 and 2008. Most recently 33 cm of snow was recorded at Easter on the 3 April 2010 in Strathdearn Dalrossie in Inverness-shire."
From Met Office, it looks like 1930 or 1975. Still not proven.
