Hugs and best wishes to Q and her dad. And remember, people may have a finite lifespan, but memories of them last you the rest of your life.

No idea what is going on in December beyond going to a dance/banquet/karaoke event for people on the autism spectrum on the 10th and a craft-making party on a Sunday after that, and Christmas is hard to predict.

pinch punch - first of the month and all that

Went orienteering today.  The area was quite hard going, with some tough planning.  So we treated ourselves to cake on the way home.

Plans for the next few weeks include visiting Dai's mum next weekend, doing something for Dai's birthday (also next weekend), running around the shops madly looking for gifts (gift cards are looing attractive for lots of people!), putting up some decorations and packing for our trip to the US!  And trying to remember exactly which pyjamas Elizabeth told me she wanted from Primark  :-\\

Done with the poultry show.  Helped take down cages and etc...  One lady forgot two of her birds, and they are my favorite little breed Serama (just a little bigger than a pop can). We called her and left a message;  she has a week to collect and pay for shipping (she lives in Minnesota).  Addy also won a raffle and is bringing home a hen and rooster Iowa Blue Breed.  And she was able to purchase 2 Blue Orpingtons (pullet and cockerel) from Tennessee!  She received several best varieties, and  reserve varieties!  She also collected all the eggs that people left in the cages .  She's got probably 2 dozen and she's taking them home to incubate...  We will see what she gets.  It'll be a mixed bag!

Christmassy things are happening at work.  We have a real tree in our building entrance.  The Year 7 girls made decorations for it.  We will put up the other decorations tomorrow.

Today (and tomorrow) is the carol service and tableaux.  A school tradition (90+ years), girls recreate the scenes from various religious paintings of the nativity.  Elizabeth is singing in the choir and I helped with make-up tonight.

I just got home from Texas today, which I will be heading back to for Christmas.
My last day of classes is next Friday, so I'm really going to try to hit the books so I can get the best possible marks on my exams.
I really hope I become official with the guy I'm dating, I tried to hang out with him before I headed for Texas, but he was too busy with work and family. :(
I hope this will be a good month, and a good end to the year.

Volunteering at the school again today.  The PTO holiday store, where students can come and purchase trinkets for their family and friends.  They learn to budget, estimate, add, and gift of giving.  Man today 12 classes and $1200 through (from 11-3:15).  I was the only cashier with a few 6th grade helpers (bagging, helpin kindergarten shop, etc...). I feel brained tonight!!!  No time for lunch even!  :P

Yesterday wife gave me a haircut, today I gave her a haircut. Both turned out OK.

Also went to Christkindl Market today. Christmas holidays related market. Overpriced items. Nice Christmas tree though, and cool model railway set.

not watching it yet  :\'(...    We have it recording.

The girls bedtime is 8 and with the one being sick, she needed a good nights rest.  They would be sad, if I watched it without them.  So I guess that will be a weekend entertainment for us :)

This is a Production Assistant position at a antenna company headquarters.  I just applied.  I had some of the qualifications, and they wanted a resume and cover letter.  So I sent it in.  We shall see how this goes (I have never worked on a factory position.  But I have been in several leadership/training positions).  Their benefits are outstanding I hear.  They have their own track, work out facility, child care, and match 401k... We shall see.

Took my dad to breakfast w his retired Air Force buddies today. He hasn't been able to go for 6 weeks. It was me and 14 70+ year old men talking about the good ole days. It's was a little painful but worth it because it made him so happy.

We ate at Golden Corral  8-P

Then a lazy day at home. A few birthday presents. My parents friends brought me all kinds of food today- tamales, Costco Pumpkin Pie, Cupcakes!!!!

Had fun visiting with the various people in their lives.

What was bad at Golden Corral?  ???

It couldn't have been a gunfight, that was the OK corral.

When I woke up this morning that is all they were calling for, I look outside now and see 8" of dusting.

At the height of the storm I had to go rescue my daughter because see slid off the road and onto the shoulder.
It scared her enough that she didn't want to drive anymore. I also got to use my snow blower. My other daughter
gave it to me three years ago; today is the first time the dang thing was even started.

All of it (well the bacon was okay- really greasy but not bad)

The pancakes, French toast, & sausages tasted like those frozen ones from the grocery store
The eggs were not real (maybe powdered eggs or beat ems - that egg product that comes in a milk carton)
The steak was hard as a brick
The lunch didn't look appetizing
The fried chicken was okay but not great

nothing at the Golden Corral is great...  (Except the amount of germs on the food that missed the sneeze guard).

The only thing it has going for it is, it's all you can eat (so if a family with pubescent boys go), bland (so people with gastric problems can go), there is something for everyone (so groups can get together with no fear of anyone starving) and you never have to worry about burning your mouth!

Good to know.

So today we began decorating our tree... we put the lights on it (that took a while) but didn't get started on the ornaments yet; we'll hang those tomorrow.

Anyways... we got our Christmas tree today. We'll probably start decorating it this weekend.

We got a new one but most of our decorations are in our storage shed.  We need to dig them out.  :P

I meant to be on here more.  I've just been really emotional and haven't been online much.

Thank you everyone that took the time to wish me well!  Truly shows me that you care!!!  Thank you!

Interview went well, started with a plant tour and ended with the interview.  I would be working a lot with excel, doing counts and scheduling of production.  My job would be on and off the production floor.  It in all was an hour and 20 minute interview.  They are interviewing all "out of house" possibilities this week, and "in house" next week.  Probably will not hear about final decisions till after the first of the year.

Only problem I am having difficulties with, if this came to fruition ... They would like the position to start at 5:30 a.m.  That means I would have to leave around 4:30.  My husband leaves at 4:00.  My girls would have to get themselves up and ready for school by themselves.  Not sure if I am willing to have that.  :\'(

Praying for guidance.  I hear my heart, I hear my head...  I hear my pocketbook.  :-\\

Changed my internet service provider due to my old one going out of business and being increasingly slow & buggy, got nice fast Comcast Xfinity DSL now and am gonna be as active here as I can, cable finally hooked up & watching Jail (Portland episode) now, but been having a terrible time mentally & with my family.

My area has been hit hard by the lowest temperatures in documented history, lots of ice & snow, terrible road conditions, but I have a new job at an adoption agency that is gonna be better than my last job.

i know technically they can.  But  they are only 10 and will be just turning 12.  And when sick, etc.. I won't even be able to wake them up and check on them.  And I have seen so many children with a chronic truancy problem because they miss the bus and I (and hubby) will be over 45 minutes away.  There is no other way for them to school.

It's hard, isn't it?  I had to start leaving Sarah home in 7th grade to get herself to school.  There were a couple of times she missed the bus, fortunately I was only 15 min away and had a position where I could leave and get her to school.

With the new job, I leave well after she has to leave for school.  I have to admit it makes me feel better knowing I can get her to school if she misses the bus.

I know that wasn't helpful.  Wish I had advice for you.

I see sooo many kids who are not self sufficient so I honestly think it would be good for them to learn how to be.. Shannon had a good suggestion on FB by having them do trial runs.... of course all of this is moot if you don't get the job but it's not a bad idea (if they are still school- or when they return) to have them try while you are still home...  that way if you do get the job you'll know they can.

In the end if your hubby can't change his starting time/shift, and you can't change your starting time/shift...even if you explain the problem to your potential future employer about your kids getting to school, and if you will be worrying/thinking everyday if the kids will get to school or not, or you feel uncomfortable that they are home alone, you have your answer as what you will do.
But this is a really difficult decision to make.

And I also like Shannon's idea on fb

Okay, it's cold out and I have to go to a parent meeting for the spring play.  Sarah got a part in Annie Get Your Gun.  If she weren't already at the school, I would try to worm my way out of it.  Guess I owe it to her to at least bring her home. :D

I understand...  I really do.  But I wish I could also show everyone a day in the life.  Cattle chores, poultry chores, and we live in the middle of no where.  There isn't neighbor if trouble.  I have enough issues right now with the cattle drinkers freezing up, and having to be unthawed every morning to make sure they have fresh water.  And with that I am always having to remember to turn off the breaker, because I am dealing with an electric heater and water.  Let alone the weird, calf head stuck in gates, etc..  (You've seen some of the bizarre happenings in my face book).  These girls are already responsible for much more than just themselves.

we would have to see about hubbies...  That would be ideal.  They are being rather "difficult" right now.  No way this "potential" job of mine can start late.  The primary job is performing the "counts" in the morn, before shifts start, of steel rolls brought in, and then cuts, and product, and final packages, of all the steps.  And producing the 8 floor managers (time two shifts) their start up baskets of stickers and gear,  and schedules of product to be made...  Then enter all information from counts, in excel for distributors to know what is ready yo ship out.  Metal comes in as giant rolls and it is turned into a satellite receiver and sent out in 36 hours.  And they want to make it about 24 hours..

Just got back from Wally World.  I picked an ornament off the tree at church for a stocking for a little girl at the homeless shelter.  No specific child, just bringing a bunch of stuff to the kids.  All the ornament says is "stocking filled with toys".  Anyway, spent $23 and stuffed that stocking full.  I also threw a pair of gloves in there, it's cold in my neck of the woods.  Sarah loves doing this every year.  She has a lot of fun with it.

I used to help out with the Giving Tree every year-i.e. setting it up and putting the ornaments on at our local grocery store. I don't know if they still do it or not. Since I left the organization, I don't think they have been reaching out to the community like we used to when I was there.

That's too bad.  I hope they do.  I always feel so bad for the kids.

my girls love the giving tree...  This year we picked off of the senior citizens tree at the local center.  They are seniors that have no family and no one to share Christmas with.  A different spin on giving.  The girls are just as excited.

I love that idea.  I will have to see if they have it here, too.

When Sarah was in the girl scouts, her troop would go to the retirement center and "adopt" a grandparent.  They had so much fun.

it was fun, and most of the seniors wanted easy things...  Slippers, sweaters, robes, gloves.  (One wanted underwear and socks - we had a laugh over that one).  Then the girls made stockings with decks of cards, fuzzy no skid socks, pencils/ pens and stationary, books of crosswords, and treats...  And they made the rice and sock snowmen to decorate their room with.

It is so much fun to see the kids getting into the spirit of help and giving.  So much nicer than the "gimme" attitude some of them have.

Went and washed my car today.  It is yucky out, but no storm and the dirt was really beginning to bug me.

It is wonderful!  Their great grandpa is living in the "assisted living" part of the nursing home.  Jason went and played cards with him while Jason was off on medical leave.  Well we decided the girls could learn to play "up and down the river".  We took them, and we ended up with a couple others playing as well.  The last time there was 8 others.  The girls are like magnets.  Now they are thinking of making gg a calendar with card playing dates listed ( but then we are scared we will run into snags with their schedules - softball dates, Girl Scouts, etc...  And he will get disappointed.  Trying to come up with a way around that snag...

some say an "Angel Tree".

It is a tree that you can pick an ornament off.  That ornament will have a name, age, sex, and wants of someone in need of gifts during the holiday season!

Does anyone know what they do with all the "left over" names.  It makes my girls sad each year to think some are not getting gifts!  I wish I could afford to buy them all things.

I don't know.  I know one local one is also sponsored by a tv station, so I imagine they help with the ones not grabbed.  Our church does that as well, although our tree usually runs out of ornaments before we run out of helpers.

that is great!  The tree here in town usually has 20+ names left on it...

It just saddens the girls cause we can't help them all!

But I will add, That some are asking for ds's and X-box's.  It is hard to pay for those too many times!

Employment agencies that provide employers with temporary workers.  Basically they send you out on temp jobs and you can see what you like.  It is a great way to get experience, and there are a lot of employers that only hire from temp agencies.

Good luck on the carpet!

Speaking of carpet... last night we had to pull back some of the carpet on our dining-room floor, due in part to the fact that our water heater began leaking earlier in the day (which we noticed first). So now the WH has to get replaced; we even called a few possible people to come over and fix it, with the work beginning last night, and continuing into today. The WH was the original one that came with the house as it was being built 13 years ago, so it lasted twice as long as it was supposed to. Still, it needs replacement; the entire project is supposed to be completed either tomorrow or the next day.

bummer about the WH but 13 years is a long lifespan. hopefully it will be replaced tomorrow. we had ours replaced about 2 years a0go. it's in the garage and it leaked in the garage so that wasn't to bad. cost me about $1600 to replace and they did a good k=job.

Thanks. Ours is going to cost about that much altogether as well. One of the guys doing the work was busy in the garage all day today, and he'll be back early tomorrow morning to pick up from where he left off.

Also, it should be duly noted that we've been without hot water since last nite, so we couldn't shower... and that's why I couldn't go to the library and volunteer this morning (so I called over there to let the staff know that I wouldn't be in because of this sudden emergency).

Packing ready for our trip to the US

we live very early tomorrow morning and arrive in Boston sometime in the afternoon and then will drive down to Connecticut.

we plan to meet up with some friends over the weekend, visit Yale for a look round, probably some shopping and maybe an ice hockey match.  Then drive up to Vermont.  Hopefully (weather dependent) we can meet up with Cat and Carlos.  We'll be in Vermont skiing over the Christmas period and hope to meet up with some other friends who have a holiday place there.

For New Year we will be in Boston.  Not totally sure what our plans are but again we're trying to arrange to meet up with friends.

I don't know how much internet access we'll have, but I'll try and log on if possible.

If not have a great Christmas/winterval/holiday and I'll be back in early January.

we plan to meet up with some friends over the weekend, visit Yale for a look round, probably some shopping and maybe an ice hockey match.

Have a save trip, I hope you enjoy Boston more than we did for we were there during the shutdown.

Yes a lot different. Sami, We've been living in this house for about 41 years and within those years we've made so many changes to the house from the ceiling to the dining room chairs and to the carpet. I don't think My father wants to move anytime soon. The only problem is the carpet sheds like a dog.  ;D

had the carpet been there so long that you forgot it was green??? because whenever you talked about it you kept referring to it as the brown carpet  ;D

what color is the new carpet?

I know right. Back in 1976, the carpet used to be green back in the days when My father worked for Korvettes.

what is Korvettes?

I was a kid in my playpen when that carpet was green at the time. It aged over the years of us walking on it and then you had the dirt and debris under the carpet too as well.

The new carpet is a shaggy brown.

Okay so I know we have a Non-Forum Quote of the Day thread but I don't feel like looking for it.....

I was just talking to one of my Sgts and he was telling me about his son's first play...

"They bastardized Beatles songs and glorified homelessness."

Then he proceeds to sing (to the tune of Yellow Submarine)

We all live on the streets and that's okay

Finally (they were going to start selecting applications October 14th). And yes, the letter was dated Dec. 16th!

Realized today that I thought I had Christmas done!  Not doing much, but I forgot my daughters Holiday Barbie from Santa!  Have to go out in the morning to get it, before the 6-14" of snow starts coming down tomorrow afternoon.

And of course hubby is going deer hunting!  We have two, but trying for at least a third and our freezer will be well stocked!  Any extras and we can fill my mothers freezer as well!  Last weekend!

It seems to be... but the report indicates that there are some adjustments needing to be made on the unit. So we called the company that installed it, and a guy will be coming over this morning to fix the problem(s). So right now I am waiting for him to show up.

yes they field dress it then bring it home and hang them...  Let them dry for a day or two and then skin them...  They do a bunch, they have 8 this year (6 guys), and they do them together!  So it isn't too difficult at that point!

It all depends on what we do.  If we make sausage, or jerky, it takes a bit longer.  I like to can some...

My condolences and a cyberhug to you, Annimal.

As far as me, over-the-top anxiety & stress, job is a pain in the arse because of my trainer always being spaced out & inattentive and talking down to me all the time, sold 3 notecard-size photos on Kindtree, got another crazy neighbor, my mom fell on hoarded junk and sprained her ankle, and drama as far as not riding the bus enough & disregarding my autism. Can't wait until I can get a car, run away from this terrible life & get into a trailer on a $2000 lot I found as one of many in the Antelope Valley of California.  :-\\

Tomorrow morning my family and I are going to my Grandparents'.  We don't have a lot planned but we'll just be spending time together.  We'll probably exchange gifts after getting back home.  I may or may not come on her at some point tomorrow, but if I don't... Merry Christmas everyone!!! I hope you all have a great day.

Ah December.

Tomorrow is Christmas Day and I will be home, alone.
Yep, Big Nasty is deployed again.
This time he is in Afghanistan.
I did however, get to talk to him tonight on Skype so that made my day. Not sure if I will get to tomorrow or not. He will make sure all of his Soldiers get the internet before he does. Love him for putting others first. Honestly, I do. It means so much to the Soldiers who have little ones at home, to get on the computer with their family.

The Son moved out last year, so it is just me here. No worries though. My friend stayed the night tonight. She has to work in the morning but I am pretty sure she will be coming back over when she is done her shift. If not, it's ok. I have a few books I have wanted to read so I am sure I will start one of them no matter what.

Monday I received Christmas cards in the mail.
Thank you so much Karen & family and Cat & Carlos. They are very much appreciated. 8)
Last week I also received a card from Ash. Thank you as well.

I hope everyone has a very, Merry Christmas.

Kindof. I needed a new wallet, since the one I'd had for the past 15 years was starting to fall apart.

Also a copy of the 2014 World Almanac.

I used to get one every year (starting in 1971). An excellent source for info and facts.

It sure is; that's why I like to get one every year. I began showing interest in it in the early 1990s, and have been receiving one every year since 1996.

So, today I had some beer for the time in my life...and I am 33. I must say, It was really exciting to drink something I have never tried before. But, I took just one sip of it, and found that it tasted terrible! Why do people like it? It's like drinking liquid chalk or something. And to top it off it is bitter. Anyway, I am very pleased with myself and happy that I was not afraid to try something new to me. It was fun...but I will not be drinking anymore beer in future 'cause it tastes really bad!

The thing is about beer is that all beers do not taste the same. Dark beer (that Carlos prefers) does have a bitter taste. While I do not consider myself a beer drinker by any means-I usually don't like it, I can tolerate some light beers. Just some food (or beer) for thought.

I have never liked beer either. However on high school weekends it wasn't unusual for me to drink 12 to 24 bottles at a party.  So...I didn't like it, but still drank it...Ah, high school.  ;D

not all beer tastes the same!!!  I love many types of beer, but hate about as many types as well!  I can't stand anything from Sam Adam's, it's taste is horribly bitter to my pallet!  I love Belgian ales, and the spiciest of other ales!  Lagers are great as well.

I enjoy a cold keystone light, bud or coors product..  But the wheat in a miller product tastes off to me!

true... not all beers taste the same.... but I will say I have tried enough different types  :D of beer to say I was never likely going to find one that I liked...but, since I don't drink any more it's now a moo point.... like cow's opinion... it's moo.

yes if you gave it your best shot...  It is not for everyone.  Nor does it need to be!

But man cannot judge on one alone...  I just had one that tasted reminiscent of the spices in pumpkin pie!!!  It would have paired perfectly!!!!  It was absolutely delish!!!  I wish I could find it around here!!!!

Okay, so today (Monday) I was out all day; we went out to Palm Desert to visit my grandfather. We were up early, and had to stop along the way in Simi Valley to pick up my uncle, and take him with us. It took almost 3 1/2 hours to get out there. 'Twas a nice drive for the most part (even though I myself didn't do any of it, but I would have if need be). While we were at my grandfather's place, we showed him some pictures we took this year... primarily, vacation pictures. My parents had spent the weekend creating a DVD of the pictures they'd taken on their 3-week trip to Italy/cruise across the Atlantic, so we brought it along with us to show my grandpa. Also, I brought along my pictures from the cruise I'd taken in April. He seemed to really like all the pictures. We left his place at 5pm, and got back home at 9. (We stopped to fill the gas tank in Azusa, then took my uncle back to his home, and stopped to get a late dinner out.)

Off to the last work day of 2013.

On a similar note, I was going to volunteer at the library yesterday, since Monday and Tuesday are my volunteering days over there (and the place was open), but we had places to go so I couldn't go there. However, I have decided to go there tomorrow (even though it's Thursday) and let my supervisor know of the situation.

So happy right now! Having a great New Years Eve!<3

I had a great one too!! Played some games with my parents (including one known as "Bananagrams", a game with word tiles where you have to generally make adjoining words with all the tiles you have), had some snacks, and watched the ball drop at midnight!

Very tired today.  we flew back from the US overnight so I've not had that much sleep.  Plus we stayed up on New Year's Eve to see the fireworks over Boston Harbour.

We had a great two weeks in the US.  The first few days were spent in Connecticut where we used to live.  We had a look round Yale (Elizabeth likes the liberal arts courses that are offered in the US), we met with friends for lunch and did some shopping.  (They rearranged aisles in Target without consulting us!). We also managed to see a Hartford Wolfpack ice hockey game.  Unfortunately they lost.  :-\\

We drove up to Vermont and had a great time meeting up with Cat and Carlos.  So glad it worked out with the weather and everything. It was fun to get together.

Then we were in Vermont, staying in this lovely bed and breakfast 'Country Inn' near a couple of ski resorts.  We skied a few days and we also went to the Ben and Jerry's factory for a tour.  They were in the process of upgrading the machines so it wasn't easy to understand the whole process.  We got to taste test a potential new flavour but none of us liked it.

I also did some snow-shoeing around Mad River Glen ski resort (friends have a condo there and they showed us around).  To get down off the mountain we sat down and slid on our snow pants.

On the drive across to Boston we met with some other friends and went tubing.  It was a cold day and we had to give up before the end of the session because our feet were too cold.

In Boston we met up with some other friends (from the UK who live in the US) and we did some of the Boston First Night activities around the town.  (Thanks to Danoota for mentioning that there would be something to see and do).  We saw some ice sculptures, various interactive light shows, the parade and two firework displays.

Now of course is the dreaded unpacking and laundry piles to sort!

Now of course is the dreaded unpacking and laundry piles to sort!

sounds like a great trip.... remind Miss E that we have fine liberal arts programs on the left coast as well  ;)
