Subject: So It's July! What's happening?
Written By: valleyroads on 06/30/13 at 3:21 pm
Made one day early since I've seen this happen on occasion when I lurked to get a feel for the boards before joining. No idea if it's OK for newbies to make month threads, but here we go:
I'm hoping July will be a decent month for me, June has been an uphill climb and has been emotionally draining. :(

Of course it is ok for newbies to start the monthly thread. The rule is, whoever gets to it first gets to create it. Since you were the first, it is yours to do.

Have fun. I don't grill but my brother-in-law does. He won't be off work until 8 so he's not grilling, however he's planning fireworks but I'm not going cause it's too loud :-\\

My birthday is the 11th, and I hope to have a good one, as always. :) Since it's on a Thursday, I'm not entirely sure how I wanna spend the day just yet. However, I do want to see about dining out with my friends (at a restaurant to be determined) on the next day.

It's official, my first pension check has been deposited in my account so now I am an old age pensioner with the rights and responsibilities that go along with my position in life, like smacking people with a cane if they are in my way, taking forever at the cashier in line at the grocery store, and complaining about kids these days who are doing pretty much the same stupid stuff I did when I was their age. :)

OK OK OK....First I got my first pension check today, then I won a $50 gift certificate at the yarn store(raffle for we who crochet for charity), THEN, I went to the local garden center for a couple of extra plants to round off the garden. When I went to pay he said "We are closing for the season today, take all you want they are free". I took a couple more, didn't want to be greedy. What a day! :)

Way cool. I got a check in the mail today-all of $8 and some cent. I have to be very careful not to spend that all in one place.
Maybe about 20 years ago or so, I took a trip to Canada (before you needed a passport to do so). I can't remember how many years ago, I got a letter that there was a class action suit against the credit card companies for people who took foreign trips. I guess the credit card companies were charging people more than they should of-like who have ever heard of such a thing. ::) Anyway, I could have opted out of the law suit for $25. I signed the paperwork and sent it in but never got my $25. So, now the lawsuit is settled and I was compensated all of $8 and something cents. I would have been happier with the $25. I don't know what happened. Maybe I forgot to mail it. Maybe they just ignored it. Who knows. Oh well. I look at this as found money so now I get to go on a shopping spree-at the dollar store? :-\\ :D ;D ;D ;D

Wow, how are you dealing with the heat?
My apartment faces south on one side, with a big glass door (next to where my computer is), I run the ceiling fan and a large tower fan, and have a plug-in cooling fan under my computer, and my air conditioner is a piece of junk. I've got excessive body heat due to some of my medications, so it can be bad... tho I'm getting used to it. :)

Slowly but surely getting my corner turned into a "sub-apartment", if you will... gonna try to source a hospital-type room divider, a small lamp and small oscillating fan, and an ottoman to extend my chaise length, put my computer in here, and this will just be my place to isolate, relax, keep calm, etc. in.
Little to nothing more happening on this day in July unless something comes up, then I'll mention it here. :)
And thanks, Catwoman, hope this is fruitful. I might be able to get room dividers thru my dad, since he works at a hospital and could get me an old or unwanted divider.

I hate attending firework shows also due to the crowds. I don't think they're worth attending because it's basically just watching some flashing lights in the sky for a few minutes while getting pushed.
Fortunately, I live close to downtown so yesterday I got a relatively great view of the Canada Day fireworks. :)

When I was in my teens and early 20s, I loved being in crowds. As each decade has passed, I dislike crowds more and more. I hope to live in a town of less than 50,000 people one day, I like the quiet, the solitude, the peace.

There was one time Carlos & I were out on the boat (the small boat before we got the Big Dog). We anchored for the night in a little cove that we love. Little did we know that the town across the lake (Lake Champlain) was going to have fireworks that night. This was Labor Day. We had the BEST seat in the house. No crowds. The loud BOOMS were not that loud. It was great. The following year we anchored in the town-but we didn't like it that much. The ashes were raining down upon us. I was afraid it would set the boat on fire. Not to mention all the noise of the crowd and the big BOOMS.
We usually try to get out on the boat for the Fourth of July. There is nothing like seeing fireworks reflecting over the lake. Sometimes our marina holds fireworks. One time we were out there and we had a mooring. We were out there and the idiots watching the fireworks were setting them off from the docks and they were heading them towards us. HELLO!!! We are out here!!!!
This year we didn't even put the boat in the water so we can't do that. There has been a few times we went to Conn. to my sister's who puts on a big party. She is about 4 blocks from the beach so the party walks down to the beach to watch the fireworks. Then every sets off their own. That's what really scares me are these pyros who just shoot them off wherever and whenever without any thought to safety.

The 00ze belongs everywhere imho. :D
My day is still going pretty nicely, had dinner at Chipotle, relaxing now while planning improvement ideas for my apartment, plans for the 4th of July include some type of photography excursion, getting something to eat at a place that's open, then turning on the TV to see if there are any interesting show marathons on and later on watch the 4th of July parade on TV. I'm not a party person, I have issues with a lot of my family, have a hard time interacting with people my age IRL because I was bullied badly, and prefer to socialize on my own terms,

Funny how you mentioned about small towns. While I'm not a fan of crowds, I'm more of a city person (go figure). I currently live in a place that has a population of 80,000 (340,00 for the greater area), and I even find that too small...

I've been at work for a year now!
Both Elizabeth and James had their school reports this week and got great reports. I think a meal out is in order to celebrate their wonderfulness!
Last night Dai went with Elizabeth to Junior prizegiving. She picked up two certificates - one for a science project she did with friends and one for something called ASC (which stands for Adventure, Service, Challenge).
And I went with James for the open evening at his new school. He got to meet his form teacher and other boys in his class and we both got to find out a little more about clubs, activities and other things vital to eleven year old boys!
Just over a week to go before the school holidays start. I need to plan one or two get togethers with friends over the next eight weeks.

This past week the weather has been so great. Only 70 to 75F, no crazy 90F degree days with 100 degree humidity index.
I love cloudy 75F degree summers. Hope it continues!

Slept most of the day (but am trying to get a better sleep schedule going), for the Fourth, I'm going to go on a photo shoot, then go out to eat with my dad if we can find a place that's open (most likely somewhere in Springfield, since we are going out that way to find old buildings, cars and tractors, interesting landscapes and other cool stuff to shoot), and I'll watch the 4th of July fireworks show on TV...

Photo shoot in a few hours, possibly something to eat, then a nap, watch the fireworks on TV whilst hearing them go off outside, then either a night of sleep or another night of insomnia.

Survived today at work on my own. Both colleagues were away on a training course - booked before the other technician handed in her notice.
Actually it was all straight forward, things are quieting down now as we get towards the end of term.
I am going to a BBQ tonight arranged as a goodbye to all the staff that are leaving/retiring. Several people from our department are going.

Not a bad idea... but it would be kinda last-minute at this point. Plus, some of them are probably doing something of their own as we speak.
On the plus side however... I have sent out an invitation to them for a birthday gathering next week. :)

By the way...this morning we went out to visit my grandma... and I drove over there. It was my first time ever driving into L.A. County. In addition, I parallel-parked for the first time ever (once we got to my grandma's house), and my parents instructed me what to do as I was making my maneuvers. And I did a good job.

Thanks... and I will most likely need to do it again at some point.
The thing is, they don't teach it in Driving School, because they say it's no longer on the driving exam (which is true, as I was not tested on it); but it is good to know how to do. However, they did teach me how to park along a curb (specifically, when no other cars are parked along it).

Today's been a little weird. I got a call from my landlord this morning saying I needed to pay the rent today. My rent's actually due by Saturday, so I felt it was odd for them to call me up about that.
It turns out that they called the wrong person. It didn't matter though, as I have to work in the morning anything. They'll be closed by the time I get off work and they don't have a drop off mail slot for money orders.

And I probably will need to. Most likely in October, when my parents plan on taking a 3-week vacation (flying to Italy and then taking a transatlantic cruise back to the States) and I'll be the only one home for that period of time. I mention this because I'll likely have to travel to my grandma's house again and help her out with things. Kinda like we did yesterday.

Going to a pizza & buffet place that is only found here in Oregon and in Washington state, that I haven't eaten at in years, with some family members... have to take some Ativan with me in case it's super-noisy in there. We're going to have the dinner buffet & pizza bar this time, I'm definitely having pizza, breadsticks & potato rounds along with a self-serve ice cream cone or a cinnamon roll for dessert, and most likely some other things. Then I am probably going to go to sleep sometime after that, just like... a Snorlax. :D

I think I woke up on the wrong side today.
For some reason, I'm feeling a little down.
I woke up shortly after 5 this morning to my phone ringing because I have a friend out east that keeps forgetting that I'm 3 hours behind. It was difficult to get back to sleep.
Found out on the net, that it's another stinking hot day.
Checked to see if the landlord had cashed the check. Still hasn't.
After waking up, I checked my email. Yesterday, I sent a "Happy Birthday" to a friend that I've had a falling out with. I was hoping that would be an olive branch, but she didn't reply back.
Also Chris did not reply to the email that I wrote yesterday.
Got an evite from a friend that had been sent to me hours ago, but noticed that other people received invitations earlier. Paranoid that I might have been given a "pity" invitation.
(I know I'm sounding insecure. Perhaps it's the lack of sleep setting off my mood, but I had over 6 hours, which is sufficient.)
Traffic was really bad today.
Ran into an ex. He didn't even actually me, but walked on by instead.
Notice that my arms are covered in freckles despite the fact that I put sunblock all over my body. :(
Notice that I already have tartar on my lower teeth despite that I meticulously take care of my teeth and gums.
Notice that my knee still aches despite having given up running.
And now I notice that my computer is acting sluggish.
Perhaps I should go to bed early, and start a brand new day...

Dinner was great, no family struggles like I often have, my mom was under the influence of prescription painkillers again (she has been struggling with that since I was a small child), but was tolerable, I had 2 slices of pan-crust combination pizza (they are small slices from a small pizza), 1 small scoop macaroni & cheese, 8 baseball-size potato rounds, 3 wedges of cantaloupe, 2 scoops of chocolate pudding and a swirl ice-cream cone, 1 glass of lemonade. All fairly small portions, got nicely full.
Full Snorlax is full. Happy Snorlax is happy. :)

Thanks. My psychiatrist told me that at the low dose I am prescribed and the infrequency of times I use it (30-day supply usually lasts 90 days), I have little risk for addiction... I'd keep taking it anyway if I did, or go to SMART Recovery if I was ordered into recovery, I think 12-step groups are a religious con, and I have lost several friends to them...

My wife takes it too, way less the the recommended dosage too. We have friends that can't get off it (they take 1 a day of the stuff, I forget how many milligrams). But even though I'm not a doctor, they "30 day supply lasting 90 days" is a safer route to go. It does help her a lot and I'm sure it helps you too.

It's someone who has been a problem for several people before me, has committed umpteen lease violations, but hasn't been evicted, since she and the manager are best friends who went to school together and the manager is in a possibly illegal conflict of interests with her.
I've decided that with my head problems, I may never be able to drive a car again, so am putting that money toward Amtrak or Greyhound fare and getting started again in a large urban area in California, Texas or Arizona that I won't need a car in, will be putting any money earned toward that too. I'm 24. I'll be 25 in November. I'm planning on going back to college in June of next year! I'll be surrounded by a bunch of 19 year olds! :D
I went back to school in my late 20s/early 30s. Most of the students were at least 10 years my junior. There were a few non-trads but I discovered I had more in common with the professors-one in particular. ;)

(I need the sun)
I know how it is like not driving. I haven't been behind the wheel of a car in over 15 years or so. I really don't miss it-but I do miss the independence of being able to just jump in the car whenever I want to go some place. I always have to rely on others for transportation.
If you are thinking of moving to a new place without any real knowledge of the place, I suggest you do some research. Look at job opportunities, average rent, crime rate, etc. etc. I totally know what it is like to move to a place that I had no knowledge of. I moved to Vermont without having a job or knowing anyone. My first stop I lived for about 2 years before I realized that it wasn't working for me. I then went back to school and moved to the other side of the state-and have been here ever since. If I could have done the research before hand, I probably would have (pre-internet and pre-Google). Just some friendly advice from someone who knows.

Not to worry...I was an undergrad for several years before finally getting my degree (at the age of 28).
You'll do fine in whatever course of study it is that you're going for. :)

Well...I took a long time to get my degree mostly because I changed directions; also in my original course of study I had to retake some courses due to not passing them the first time around. It was also a mighty struggle for me. That's why I was an undergraduate college student for ten years.
I'll be turning 33 this Thursday, btw.

Thanks. I have decided to give driving another chance... I have been mostly looking at Albuquerque, NM and Santa Fe, NM, have planned on using extended-stay housing if I ride the 'hound down there or bringing a recreational vehicle with me & living in an RV park if I drive down (all rental companies are ripoffs as far as I am concerned, I have been burned by several of them, and I would prefer to deal with renting the room or space outright on a first-come first serve instead of application basis) and finding a private owner/broker to do a lease-to-own deal on a house for long-term, going to school there for a computer/technology related field (probably Unix programming, tho video game development seems appealing too), and will be comparing neighborhoods for crime rate and whatnot. Thing is that I cannot stay here in Oregon without losing my sanity.
If I get into vidya development I would love to eventually develop an urban exploration-themed video game.
Today I was mostly sleeping but cleaned the shower/tub and removed 5 gigs of crap from my hard drive.

Seriously considering contacting the owner of this apartment complex I live in regarding my next-door neighbor, who comes to me for every question she has (I put a note on my door telling her to buzz off last night), I have had friends of hers trying to contact me, she has gone unmedicated and without therapist visits since March, and she has been complaining about me when I've done nothing wrong, yet she has committed almost every lease violation in the books, broken off a key in my mailbox lock and tried to get me evicted, and has stayed here because she went to school with the manager. ::) She has also been kicking the wall between us to get my attention.
May also have to contact the county mental health agency.

Regarding your neighbor, write everything down first on paper. From memory, describe dates and times she did certain things, and continue to do so until you talk with the landlord..yes..you need to speak to the landlord/owner of the complex, you don't need this aggravation.
I don't know how large your complex is, but ask if you can move into another unit (if they are unwilling to take any action with your neighbour...if your neighbor and manager and friends, they might not do anything, but can't hurt to ask)

Warped and Cat... great advice. I already have 2 weeks of recording on cassette tape made on an old dictaphone that I put between the TV cabinet and shared wall, manager said that I forged it. ::)
Will be talking directly to the management company. I also may have got deliberately put in a problem apartment (I heard through another neighbor that it went through 5 tenants in 5 years because of this person) because they wanted to get rid of it, yet they had 4 or 5 others for rent at the same time. I've been burned by 2 other rental companies (Bell Real Estate and Emerald Property Management) and have decided more or less that if I get my license back and once I can afford to, I'm buying a recreational vehicle & moving to an RV park... a quickly overturning population of mostly old people has to be better than this...
I'll get a file started in Openoffice, get it put on a flash drive and printed at the library & present it to the property management company.

Indeed it is. I have been watching a cluster of single and duplex brick cottages in downtown Springfield (like 10 minutes south of Eugene) for an opening, hoping that might work out. In any case I wish I had gotten to a 1940s duplex with a very interesting interior layout before someone else did, about a year ago.

Also I've been going through hypomania and a really sickening nasty state of turmoil with everyone but my girlfriend and 99% of my internets peeps.
Looking at buying the entry-level Android smartphone from Cricket to replace my current phone, which is a goner.
And just trying to pull my day up from rock bottom.

I know where Springfield, I've been in Eugene once, for a night (we were at a motel 6 or Super 8...just off highway 5 I think).
Make sure you find a nice place to live and just don't move "anywhere" as long as it's not where you live...I know it's easy for me to say, right, coz I have't suffered in your unit..

Ours are always like that. Mostly people calling from the jail trying talk to their defender and pouring the sad stories on me about why they can't be there.
It's weird. I talk to people from the jail and prison a lot. I am just figuring out how to not automatically say "you do the same" when they tell me to have a good day. It just feels so wrong to tell an inmate that. ;)

There is a lot of that. Ten to one he never walked home from school, she always picked him up, she found his schools for him(if he went to college), she bought him his cars, paid for his cell phone, did his laundry whenever he lived away from home, which wan't often.

My guess is...the reason he needs a lawyer and the reason he does immature shyt like not pick up his phone and the reason mommy does the talking are all factors in the reason why this dude is 33 going on 16.

He's 33 and mommy still does the talking for him? Wow he must be so spoiled. This guy needs to grow up and take charge of his life...but I guess he thinks he has it good coz mommy does everything for him, yeah she needs to cut the umbilical cord already.
Maybe he needs someone to advocate for him.

I keep every grey hair on my head, I earned them. Drives my older sister crazy ;D
I earned mine, too but it is not like I have a couple-if I didn't color my hair, I would be completely grey-no, I would be completely WHITE!!! I'm not exaggerating here. I had been coloring my hair since I was 19. The greys first started to appear around the age of 15! :o :o :o

Yup-my mother was completely grey by the time she was 30. She used to color it but stopped when she was in her 40s-I think (?). My brother also got that gene, too. But he never colored his hair. All my sisters color their hair-to hide those greys . But, I have more than all of my sisters put together.

Almost every brand of energy drink. I've had 2 cans of VPX Bang, which is the most powerful energy drink on the mass-market (the most powerful being a Middle eastern energy drink called Wild Tiger that also contains nicotine)

I lost another 2 pounds, and pics of me from almost a year ago compared to the pic of me in the cemetery and the one on my FB page that I might have posted here, in front of a Jim Morrison poster, are almost a night & day difference... and in other ways, the day is uneventful.

Thanks Eleanor. :) They are my friends, and being with them certainly makes me feel happy.
So yesterday, I went bowling in the morning with my parents; I managed to make a few strikes in the two games we played for an hour's time, but couldn't get a score in the triple-digits. I still had a good time and got some exercise out of it. And then we went to a nearby Black Angus restaurant for lunch, where my supervisor at this one place I have been volunteering joined us and treated me and my family. (This guy, whose name is John, has been very pleased with all the volunteer work I've done for him in the past 3 years, and he even wrote me a recommendation letter last year for potential employment. He's a very nice man.) And then we went shopping for a couple of items I needed, both at Aaron Brothers. I needed a custom 12x12 frame for a picture whose original frame broke long ago, and I bought a 5x7 frame for a picture that didn't have an actual frame yet, to take advantage of their 1-cent deal (buy an item at full price, then get an item of equal or lesser value for a penny). Then we came home and rested, and took a walk around the neighborhood later on. Finally, we sat down to watch the Dodger game on TV...which ended well. :) (We didn't go out for dinner because we were all very full from lunch.)

Did a short session in work today sorting out books for next year. We have to make a list of who hasn't returned school text books so they can get a letter warning them they might have to pay for a replacement (unless they manage to find the book by start of next term). Plus we have to repair/recover the books and also cover, number, stamp etc the new course books. I plan to go in on Monday, plus a few other days over the summer holiday.
James's last day at his primary school, he came home with his white t-shirt now covered in 'autographs' from his classmates.
we are going bowling tomorrow and then out for dinner to celebrate both children having great results and end of year reports. Not that these mean anything to most of you here (and I am boasting a bit) but James just got his SATs results for key stage 2. Most 11 year olds are expected to get level 4, and James got level 5 in English reading and writing, and science and level 6 in maths (equivalent to a pass grade in the exams taken at age 16 in the UK). Especially pleased about the English because at the start of the year they barely expected him to get the level 4.

Then I went to listen to a local band, outdoor concert. They covered 70s music...Steely Dan, Eagles, Stevie Wonder...did some 80s Tom Petty and covered a couple of "one-hit" wonder tunes. Great show.
I'll post some pics of the cars I took somewhere in the picture thread.

Haven't been doing much of note here. Most of my summer has consisted of playing dead zombie in a movie (and doing some production assistant stuff when not laying on the ground zombie-style). Also played tour guide to my mom and a few of her neighbors who drove up to tthe "big city" where I made them reservations at a hotel and showed them how to get to the zoo. (Also got a paniced call at 3 a.m. when they were here, they had driven a cranky baby around in the car and had gotten lost, so I was able to talk/play GPS to get them back to the hotel.) ;D
Been plying veternarian nurse with my diabetic cat. Either hubby or stepdaughter will hold her while I give her a shot of my insulin. :\'( I think she is doing ok with it. Hubby is a bit more pessimistic and is often discussing when she needs to be put down. She seems to be reasonably ok, albeit she doesn't use the litterbox about half the time. I think if we can just get the right dosage of insulin, she could live for years, albeit slightly less energetic (I know the feeling.) It's really upsetting for both of us since we don't want to see her in pain, but she still manages to snuggle with us and chase insects like she did when a young cat.
Apartment is stil a wreck and stepdaughter is too :-\\. But both are getting better, slowly.

Anywho today was OK, slept soundly after taking Tylenol for a headache & canceling a coffee trip with someone I've had a bad falling-out over ethics, religion & politics with, went to Goodwill & thought I had me a nice large-scale model of a '69 Chevy Blazer until I realized that all four tires and the rear axle were gone (not so nice after all), ran the dishwasher a little while ago, now just trying to kick back & take it easy.

So this morning there's a Jobfair at the post office nearby, for immediate job openings; I'm gonna check that out after I go to church.
And this event turned out to basically be a tour (albeit a partial one) and "orientation"; the only positions they had open were mail handlers, carriers, clerks and maintenance. In addition, lots of people came to this. Also, the person leading this group explained that anyone who was interested in any of these spots should go online and make an application, but some of the people said that they had problems with the online application, so that issue would be looked into. Still, I viewed this as a learning experience.

Hang in there, Q. Echoing Howard here regarding enough to get by. :)
Today's pretty good, went to Goodwill and found a 50+ year old plastic Chevy El Camino "Craftsman Kit" (old-school DIY plastic toy car, not a normal model kit) that needs lots of TLC (couldn't bear to see an antique toy car that was restorable getting smashed to bits, by kids playing in the toy aisle) along with a spindle of CD-Rs, I ordered in my traditional Sunday pizza and had 3 slices before it went back to the fridge, enjoying an energy drink and the public access cable channel...

I've done mail sorting (handling) Jeff its a bit tedious but a good job for a detail oriented person like yourself. It also possibly has good benefits. Have you considered applying?

I'm actually excited it maybe the first time since they changed our stupid payout from monthly to biweekly that I won't be overdrawn. Though I still have a few days. So who knows what'll happen. Oh well that's the price you pay for losing down the lowest paying job in my field in my area in the city with the highest cost of living.
Even if I didn't live Santa Barbara I can't really afford to move anywhere else.

I agree. I've done mail sorting and it can be a bit tedious like Q said, but as she said, it would be good fit for someone who is a detail oriented person like yourself. You probably need to sort the mail by zipcode and state and city, and maybe by department, etc...I think you would be good at that.

It's a little different at the post office. As they deal in larger volume and they are sorting by zip code not name. You would learn every zip code in the state. There was a time I had em all memorized ;D
Don't know if they were clear but the mail handlers and mail clerks and postal carriers are all different jobs. You would do one position not cross train for all three.
I like talking the postal exam. It's a standardized test. I find it oddly relaxing taking those.

In fact, I might be good for a position like that, since I am good at committing numerical info to memory.

Yes, the guy giving the orientation did mention that fact; he was pretty clear for the most part. He didn't say anything about a "mail sorter", though. (Someone with such a task might have other duties as well.)

He did say there'd be one of those...which I'd be fine with. In fact, I've taken several different standardized tests for positions that required one, and done well on them.

It's possible it's changed a bit but more than likely not. They still have a lot of mail to sort - unless automation has limited the need for them.

In addition to basic math and time keeping questions the postal exam asks you to accurately identify proper address. Ie 123 baker St vs 321 Baker Ln
They will also give you a series of numbers
123875
125678
123876
And you will have to find the correlating number.
It's not hard it's just tracking all the numbers bunched like that. I used the scantron sheet as a bookmark so I didn't lose my place. Nothing in the rules said I couldn't so I did. ;D
I think you'd probably score very well on the test Jeff.

Hoping today will be better than yesterday, my day was quite peaceful and took on a bit of a surreal feeling once I had drank a 24-ounce Smirnoff Ice and put on my playlist of Sarah Brightman songs, but got interrupted by having to scramble for the phone and almost dropping my laptop on the floor and spilling Smirnoff Ice on it, which prompted me to have a very rapid mood swing (what I refer to as my "mood turning over", it's likely that I'll have to go on a very high dosage of medication to be anywhere near totally balanced nearly all the time) and my day to be ruined.
Today I'm going to skip the adult beverages, for one, and for two, ask those who call me a lot that I not be disturbed too much, since I don't like to be talked to IRL unless I started the conversation (long story on that) and these days every word out of my mouth feels like I am forcing it out. :(

There was a time when I was an operator at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX. Not only did I connect people from here to there, most of the time we were just information giving out numbers to this office or that office. There was a time when I could tell you most #s without looking them up.

Update on my mom's surgery: She was supposed to have one again today. But after talking with the surgeon and answering his questions about how it has been lately, he realized she might not need the surgery after all. So he is going to run more tests. While I am glad she isn't having surgery, because that stuff freaks me out, I wish she wouldn't have to feel sore anymore. She hasn't been feeling as much pain lately. Maybe they can get her on different medication. ???

So...this morning I got a call from a woman I met in the Contacts-N-Coffee networking group that I've been a part of for the past year, and she had a data-entry project for me to do. So I agreed to it, right after I was finished at the library; it involved entering names and contact info into a system. This lady runs a photography business, and has lots of clients, and she needed someone to enter all this info. So I did that and got it all accomplished.
So this has been a good day for me. :)

That's my primary goal right now. I am open to learning additional skills, though. :)
In fact, there's a staffing agency near where I live, and I am keeping in touch with this one gal I met from there a couple months ago. In fact, I contacted her this morning and she said that my name is still on her list; there's just no "data entry" positions available locally right now. I also informed her of my ongoing progress of trying to find something.

Another sunny day here - making the most of it after the past two dreadful summers.
In work for a brief spell this morning covering and stamping new textbooks. I'd planned to stay longer but couldn't get the internet radio to work so it was boring as hell on my own. That's it for this week - next week Elizabeth is at scout camp and James is doing a summer school so I can do a bit each day.
Just off into town to meet the kids who've gone to the park. we need to go to the library again - James has read all the books he took out on Saturday ::) Plus I plan to buy some new silk flowers for mum's memorial, the old ones a really faded now.

Here's a question:
If you had to choose between B&J's Peanut Butter Cup!, Vermonster, Half Baked, Blondie Brownie or New York Super Fudge Chunk, which one(s) would you choose?
Well, I'm not much of a fan of chocolate flavored ice cream, and I'm not very fond of peanut butter either. So for me, virtually all that was left was the Vermonster. (Not that I mind very much... ;))

My choice? Chunky Monkey or Pistachio, Pistachio. :D ;D ;D ;D
I went to B&J's website and they said that the Vermonster was basically a sundae with 20 scoops of ice cream. :o :o :o The Blonde Brownie was in the "crypt"-in other words, it is discontinued-at least it is here. If I had to choose I would say either Half-Baked or NYSFC-but I do like the Peanut Butter Cup, too. But, it is your choice.
Congrats.

Absolutely! This program that was used (Outlook), is one that I hadn't previously worked with, but caught on with pretty quickly. Basically I had to enter people's names into the system, along with their phone numbers and email addies.
In addition... this morning at Contacts-N-Coffee, she thanked me in front of everyone else for helping her out. She also announced it on the Contacts-N-Coffee Facebook Page.

1-Well it looks like I'll be working more shifts and doing some training soon with my job since the more senior staff have moved onto other positions.
2-With that job interview I had about a couple of weeks ago, they seemed to like me because they asked me to fill out some forms for them to perform a background check on me. They said it would take up to a month, but I think everything turned out well because last Thursday the human resources manager (wasn't the one that interviewed me) left a voice message around a few minutes before 5 to ask to do another conversation with me on Friday at 10 in the morning....And I think that's where I blew it because I had thought it was best to leave a voice message around 7 rather than call while he was heading out the door. It was a detailed message that I think might have come across as rather stupid---asking for clarification (did he mean the following day or next week?) and providing my phone number with my email address. :-\\ Didn't hear back the following day so I left a message yesterday that sounded rather weak and timid. Still nothing, and I've decided to maybe just wait it out for the month since I've handed in my background papers rather than pester him with more voice messages. If I blew it, well at least I learned a few lessons.
3- Got a last minute invitation to a reception from a friend living on the other side of the continent. I wanted to go because it's been over three years since I've seen her, but the airfare is outrageous.
4- I haven't been anywhere yet this summer except going over to the big city, which is about three hours away and doesn't count. I've got another friend that hasn't been anywhere either so we're both longing to take a vacation, and are seriously discussing going to Yellowstone over the Labour Day weekend.

Call them today- or tomorrow...during business hours...talk to a human not a machine.
And tell him you want to verify you're still being contacted this Friday.... Be direct and you'll be fine. :)
FYI- for future reference. When leaving a voice mail message- perhaps you should get in the habit of saying I'm returning so&so's call please call me on this date and this time because I have some follow up questions. - then you don't have to worry about rambling or sounding weak/timid ;)

I think there is something going on with me. I keep getting into these laughing fits everyday, particularly when my father starts complaining about everything. And it's just little things that sets my mind off and I can't stop laughing. Random things! Like the other day at the supermarket, I was at the checkout line getting ready to leave and I looked behind me and there was a lady standing there. She was all serious and had this look on her face. She was pouting her lips, and to top it off she was wearing a hat decorated with a bird...YES it looked like a real bird. I took one look and quickly looked away giggling, covering my mouth. Soon I was almost not breathing and I kept laughing. Everyone was starring, some were smiling a bit. I wanted to leave but the guy at the checkout wasn't through scanning my items. When I did leave I laughed all the way home, thinking about the bird on the lady's head. One time recently, I was watching TV and we were watching a commercial about diamonds, and there was this girl who kept smiling in this weird way. Again the giggling, laughed so much I ended up on the floor. I keep laughing at just about anything. Even when my father complains. He has this tone that is hilarious! lol. Today, the curls in my hair made me laugh so much. I looked in the mirror and thought I looked like a poodle.

I get like that too sometimes---I laugh at the most minor things or I can't stop laughing. I remember my late grandmother would tell me that if I start laughing for no apparent reason, people would think I "came out of the loony bin". For some reason, whenever she mentioned that, I couldn't help but find that hilarious---I guess because I had this vision of a bin filled with those rubber chickens.
As for that lady standing behind you in the checkout line, I would have been in the same predicament (poor you!). And what's up with old ladies wearing hats decorated with birds?! lol

Today, I saw a bus that looked similar to this one:
http://omgpancakes.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/img2817x.jpg
It was all old and rusty ;D ;D, and when I walked by the man who was driving it flashed me a kind of jeering smile...asked me if I wanted a ride to where ever I was going. It was kind of creepy and I quickly looked around to see if I could find a crowd of people, lol. I kindly said, "no thank you." of course. I mean just because something looks creepy doesn't mean it could be bad. I didn't want to be rude so I said, "no thank you." I think he was happy to ride in that creepy, old, rusty bus. What was funny was when he drove away it was so loud!

Yes, I was sorting clothes, Howard.
And... I had to go to the Social Security office with an administrator of the program I was more or less forced into... that went better than I thought... next few weeks I will be applying for subsidized apartments through St. Vincent DePaul of Lane County and the housing authority & job-hunting, I will probably be changing phone providers to Straight Talk and internet to AT&T (which will save me about $15-20 a month, but internet access does come with St. Vincent DePaul apartments), and overall things are going ok. The cost of this complex is prohibitive even with a job and increased Social Security payments, I will be getting away from my neighbor that I have issues with, and I will have more money to focus on things like moving out of Oregon, getting my criminal record expunged, gas & insurance for a car, and a lot of other things.

It is what they call a "hidden gem". The people who go there are locals, they only have rides for kids up to about 7 or 8 so it is young families or grandparents with the grandchildren, and people fishing off of the pier. Just a nice place.

So due to the distance between us, my girlfriend said it's OK for me to try to find someone local (it will ideally be totally platonic at first), and that if anything happens in the relationship to end it, that Adriana will be there to comfort me. I got 6 spam emails that I had to delete since it was a Craigslist ad, I've had to delete several people from my deviantART and Facebook accounts (which usually means blocking them), and yesterday... less said about it, the better...

It was at a berry farm so we picked blueberries. One for the bucket, one for me. One for the bucket, TWO for me. :D ;D ;D ;D But man, that sun was HOT!!!!
I was so mad. As I was picking, I saw a BEAUTIFUL dragonfly land close by. I took out my new camera (that I had around my neck), and just as I turned that sucker on, the dragonfly was gone! >:( >:( >:( :\'( :\'( :\'( :\'( :\'( He never did come back. I hate when that happens!

For those of you who haven't added me on Facebook or don't use that site, I'll copy/paste my latest status:
No idea where my brain, mind or soul will take me today, but I'm predicting drama or my mind turning over into spike manic state. Also, it feels like every word out of my mouth is forced and that every move I make with my body is forced, and I locked up my left knee twice (including once whilst sleeping)
And I poured the energy drink/cider mix down the drain after 4 or 5 sips because it was sickly sweet, it was not the culprit of this... I don't feel hung over...

I drank only 2/3 of a bottle of beer and it made me slightly depressed. Because I take anti-depressants (a pill a night) for my anxiety. Yep, alcohol and pills are a deadly mix... only had a single pint can of cider with dinner last night and have eliminated most if not all of the alcohol (5% by volume)
Feeling pretty good so far today with no idea what the day will bring. :)
And for the past few days I've been working on this customized 1/18 scale Ertl Chevy Monte Carlo toy car, inspired by "Christine" (both the book and film versions), the death car urban legend, several notorious serial killer cars and my childhood dream cars (which were slowly decaying junkers that met with the crusher about 20 years too late)

Thanks! It is a little bit like Gerald Stano's Rambler American, the Son of Sam's Ford Galaxie or Wayne Williams' Chevy Malibu stylistically, but has more Christine and death-car rumor to it along with more than a touch of the Dodge Magnum that was my childhood dream car.
In other news I completely redecorated my bedroom into a combination bedroom/office/den and will move this theme onto my next place. I'm just waiting on a minifridge, body pillow(s) to replace the repurposed couch cushions on the daybed and some apple crates or whatnot to put books in.

Hello All,I am alive and well. Thanks for those concerned. Things have been a little stressed and hectic. Having some issues with anxiety. Trying to hold my head up and power through but avoidance has been my weakness.
It is official - I am unemployed (signed up for unemployment about 2 weeks ago). The school I taught at for the last 7 years let me go for budget reasons. Now on to bigger and better things O0
I am hoping to be back here a little more, right now County fair just started this week and it is X-tra CRAZY. THe girls are oober excited. Everyone keeps telling me my eldest daughter aquaponics display will make it to state. She has 6 other projects to present, as well as taking and showing 2 pigs, 10 poultry (ducks and chickens), and cattle. Right now I am thankful the youngest is to young to do it all. But that is coming next year.
Hope you are all well! If you need to fill me in on something, or catch me up on the latest scoop, you know where to find me.

Good day you all!
Welcome back. Missed you. Sorry about your job but it may actually be a blessing in disguise. You never know what awaits you. Hope you stick around here more often.

Hey Sami, sorry to hear about your unemployment and they let you go. I've been unemployed for longer than that and still actively seeking employment. I just know I'll find something at some point. Glad you are ok in other regards. :)

So, I have been at my new job for about 6 weeks now. I didn't realize how truly unhappy I was at my old job. The environment was almost poison. The people there had no understanding of how you can still be civil to someone who you don't like. Then there were the sh*t stirrers who got a kick out of tattling on people they didn't like. Then there was my boss who didn't trust me to run my room right. Forget the fact I had been doing the job longer than he had even worked there. I felt like I was treated like a little kid.
Fast forward to my new job. Granted there are petty people, but the office is a lot bigger. Plus they understand the "be civil" rule of life. My boss trusts me to do my job correctly. I can ask questions and she doesn't act like I need to be re-trained. Plus, I can ask the attorneys questions about how things work and they don't treat me like I am dumb. It helps to know how the courts work. I haven't had any problems with the clients yet, I am sure it is coming though. Plus, the people I work the closest with seem like genuinely nice people. They don't act better than you because they are attorneys and I am just lowly secretary.
I was scared to death that I wasn't making the right decision when I left. Best decision I ever made.

Yes, tell us what the Doctor says.

This week Elizabeth has been away at scout camp and James is doing a maths summer camp at the school he will be attending in September. I've done a few hours at work each day covering/labelling/stamping new text books. And also tidying around the house. (The oven is currently cleaning itself so I can wipe it out in an hour or so)
Tomorrow Elizabeth gets back from camp and brings with her two Swedish scouts to stay for the weekend. Trying to decide what activities to do with them. And what to cook - one has a peanut allergy and one is a pescatarian

Called into a radio show question..."What is the way people get comfortable at work?" My answer "Take of their shoes" CORRECT....I win lunch for two at Georges Coffee Shop in Gloucester Massachusetts. It is one of those small family owned sandwich shops that the locals go to while the tourists are paying through the nose for half as good half as much at the traps, and I love Gloucester. :)

To everyone with well wishes directed at me, some of the shaking is attributed to pre-diabetes or other blood-sugar issues (low blood sugar most likely, since I eat hardly any sugar as it is(, and I'm going on a low-carb, low-calorie, low-starch diet for that to lose weight and manage my health before it gets worse. I see my shrink very soon, my physician (went to see him this morning) recommended that I diet and exercise (planning on going for a bicycle ride/photo shoot along the bicycle/pedestrian paths this weekend), and in any case will be seeing my shrink on the 31st and a therapist tonight.
All day today I have felt like people are sneaking up behind me and have heard noises that weren't there...

Enjoying the fair! Addison is having a great moment! She had two of her 4 projects (3 where considered, but 2 made it) of her static projects make it to go on to state fair. (An aquaponics system she made, and a dress she sewed).
She won Supreme Commercial Heifer today, as well as best pen of three laying hens, best of Show poultry, and intermediate showmanship ( she won jr. Last year, and intermediate this year - only second year showing, she has to go for senior next year; usually 9th through 12th graders). She is extremely happy tonight!!!
My youngest earned a purple Best in class, on the quilt she sewed for her doll bed!!! In the open show, for 16 and under - she is 9!
Feeling blessed!

Well I successfully made it to the second interview but when I got there, the HR manager was concerned that my current job, which is casual, would not make me reliable. I explained that I could work on weekends, but he wanted somebody to work during weekdays. Fortunately, it looks like there's going to be more training at my job so I'm hoping for more regular hours...
Meanwhile, it is hot and muggy here. It seriously feels like I'm in a greenhouse! I used to think that summer was my favorite season, but now I'm thinking that it's spring. And I might sound crazy, but I'm beginning to think that I would rather be in -30C (-22F) weather rather than in this stinking oppressive heat! Maybe I should start saving to take a cruise to the Antarctica next summer...

Turns out that I'm prediabetic, have been adjusting my diet to suit that, and have chosen to make my only sugar-sweetened drinks 3 infrequent to occasional things: the coffee freezes I get with my uncle on one day of the weekend depending on if a friend of ours is working, the drive-thru coffee stand smoothies I sometimes get when I pay renter's insurance (quarterly) and Sangria Senorial or horchata when eating at a taqueria or a sit-down Mexican restaurant. Anymore I just drink sugar-free flavored sparkling water, sugar-free energy drinks or sugar-free tonic water and will only have the sugary stuff once a week at the very most... and my PTSD symptoms were flaring up bad enough for me to be formally diagnosed by my psychologist with the final word coming from my shrink on the 31st.

Maybe I should start saving to take a cruise to the Antarctica next summer...
I wish you all the best. :)

Congrats!! Gloucester was my mothers favorite place to go on vacation along with Rockport, sadly I haven't been there in over 27 years.
We are there all the time, I just love it. Most people think of Cape Cod, but as far as I am concerned Cape Ann is the best.
Rockport Sunday - Tom Rush (unfortunately the pictures are Maine, don't know why)

As much as I enjoy the summer here, I'm excited for mid/late autumn... very sombre and stark, yet peaceful and elegant at the same time, and marked with electrical & wind storms, rain and lovely grey cloudy skies that edit up nicely for photography. Cemeteries with ornate stand-up tombstones, forested parks and auto-wrecking yards are great that time of year.

Did an 8 mile training walk for my upcoming Avon walk (it's sept 7&8)
Then I spent the afternoon in Solvang with two of my oldest friends. Walked another 3+ miles.

My neighbors are having a birthday party for one of their kids. They have a bounce house and two pinatas. The dad and the oldest brother are standing on the shed and the roof of the house, respectively, tossing around the pinata. They look like they are having more fun than the kids. ;D

So I have the whole day to myself tomorrow. I can finally do what I've been dying to do since day two of Comic con. Take a Vicodin and go to bed. O0

Whenever I hear the name of that movie, I think of our old station wagon. I used to always sit in the "way back." :D ;D ;D ;D

I know a guy who buys and sells 1960s station wagons. All of the 9-seaters he's gotten, along with the Ford Falcon Station Bus he saved from the scrapyard, had ashtrays in the places where kids usually sat, and the Chrysler wagon he just bought has a lighter for the rear-facing third-row seat. ::)
I wonder if Philip Morris or R.J. Reynolds had a deal with Chrysler to put enough ashtrays and lighters for a small crowd in their wagons? ;D

Elizabeth and the three Swedish scouts got back Friday afternoon.
We had a great weekend, all girls together shopping on Saturday (clothing is apparently so much cheaper here) and they appreciated the showers and the fact that I did their laundry. They also were Dr Who fans and Harry Potter fans and made H2G2 jokes about queueing - it was a bit freaky!
Now they have all gone to London for a couple of days sight-seeing.
Not entirely sure what James and I will get up to. Although I know James wants to start his plan of getting dad to let him buy Warhammer stuff. Part one involves showing how well he can paint and assemble model kits of planes etc.

Went to the school shop and bought the rest of the stuff James needs for school. Nearly £300 and it was mainly sports kit!! :o I bought the suit from the second-hand shop and am getting his shirts from M & S - same colour about half the price. still need to go and buy his pens and pencils etc but I think we're going to raid the stuff lying around the study first.

Looks like a trip to Poundland for the pens and pencils?

Busy day. Loading up the van-trying to make sure we have everything we need. I keep getting our two trips mixed up in my mind. This week is only 3 days but I keep thinking of the BIG trip which will be in a couple of weeks. At least the van will be mostly loaded for the BIG trip. What is still left to do? We need a little something called clothing. I don't think we will get too far without that. Meds, toiletries, & food. Otherwise, I THINK we have everything but I'm sure everybody knows there will be at least one item (if not many) that we will forget.

Have a good trip, Cat. :)
I spent most of my day between getting my instruction permit replaced, getting other stuff replaced (I accidentally threw away my wallet, and the garbage truck had come & gone by the time I realized it was gone), and at the psychiatrist... now feeling incredibly worn-down and have been talking off and on with my girlfriend...
So about locking the thread... can I lock this by the time it's August 1st by inthe00s' time zone (which I am guessing is Eastern time since Chucky G lives on the east coast), or is it up to mods to do it? I hear talk of members locking their threads, but don't know if it's frowned upon or not. :)

Locking theonth thread is frowned upon. (By me :D ) occasionally people will continue a conversation thru mid month the threads have a tendency to die off naturally. :)

Generally threads get locked when the discussion goes to decadologists or I'm politics gets too heated and civil tongues are no longer possible. Fun threads carry on until they die. Some get resurrected years later and that can be fun too.
