Subject: I Am Just Blown Away!
Written By: CatwomanofV on 04/03/13 at 4:13 pm
There are those moments in life when someone will say something to you or do something for you that just blows you away. So, this is place to share those stories.
-First story I already mentioned in the Monthly thread. Some friends of ours sent me a dozen roses for my birthday. They are so beautiful and I am just blown away by it (even though I had said NO GIFTS).
-There is another that happened a long time ago. For Christmas one year, a co-worker/friend of my ex-husband gave me a BEAUTIFUL tapestry of lions. I didn't think she was that good of a friend to give me something like that. I never kept in touch with her and in fact, I can't even remember her name. But that tapestry has been with me since. Every place I have lived since that time, that tapestry was on the wall. Right now, it is hanging in our bedroom.
-Every now & again, I will get a PM from one board member or another who will say things to me that just blow me away! I can't tell you how many different people have said things to me like that. I have asked Carlos many times, "Am I as awesome as they think I am?" ;) :D ;D ;D ;D
Who's next?

I don't remember sharing this - maybe I did. Oh we'll it blew me a way so I'm saying it again.
At the community paleyfest panel the cast did a table read. At the end they threw their scripts into the crowd. I was front row center but didn't get one. I looked at Yvette Nicole Brown (who I've gotten close to thru twitter) gave her a sad look. I had no idea she still had her script. She personally slid her script to my. She said it was my reward for being 1st in line 4 yrs in a row! 8)
She signed it too. (The whole cast did)

This one blew me away only because I didn't understand it and totally did not expect it ...
Back in the late 80s, I was on an elementary school trip to Montreal to watch The Expos vs The Cardinals. While at Olympic Stadium, I lost my Batman velcrowallet. In it was $40. I never thought I'd see it again, and boy did I cry.
About a month later, I got a package in the mail from a Montreal postmark and in it was my wallet (lucky for me I wrote my address in it), but the money was missing. With it was a letter that was written in French, that I never had translated at the time. Years went by and I forgot about it until I found the letter again that I had put in an old box. I took that letter to high school and had my french teacher translate it.
Basically to sum up, the woman who found my wallet, kept the money because she needed it to help pay for her sex change operation.
Not only was I confused, I somehow didn't seem to care anymore that the money was gone. I had a good laugh over that

Today I went to an awards ceremony put on by my dept (I didn't win anything)
One of my former profs (who's now an exec vice chancellor) was there we were catching up. A former co worker came over to say hi and I introduced them. The prof referred to me as one of her favorite students. I don't think she was 'just being nice' of all the people who graduatrdx she went to my dinner and she did some pretty awesome things for me when I was a student.
A few months back same thing happened with a different prof. I was at the film studies dept because my fourth favorite tv writer was hosting a discussion with my 2nd/3rd fav tv writer so I HAD TO GO!
Afterwards the prof introduced me to both of them and said I was one of the best students to come out of the program. It was quite a compliment considering I was standing in front of two women I greatly admired. But at the same time I felt a lot of pressure like maybe I should've tried harder after graduation or something.
Still I love the feeling of knowing they remember me so fondly.

The one that stands out for me was my retirement celebration, which I shared with 2 other colleagues. I didn't expect it, but before being presented with my retirement rocking chair several people, including the dean, took the mice and said such really nice things about me that I was dumbstruck. Then they gave me the mike. Usually I'm never at a loss for words, but that time, all I could say was "thank you all, don't know what to say"

My best friends growing up in Montreal in the late 60s and early 70s was this girl named Renuka. We hung out together lots (think Kevin/Winnie of the Wonder Years) and even ran away from home together once ( lol).
When she moved 10 miles away in the early 70s to mid 70s, I lost all contact with her. It was a sad day for me and us :(
Just about when I finished high school, our family moved to Toronto. By the mid to late 80s in Toronto, I was thinking of taking a Comp/Sci course at College. I was gonna sign up and when I got the sign-up list, I saw her name on it. There were only 10 names on the list too. I thought ..was that really her name or someone else with the same name? (Her name was not common..figured it had to be her) I found the school directory, got her number & phoned her up, talked to her for 2 hours and we reconnected, It was really her. Almost 15 years later in a different city, 350 miles away. and we became really good friends again.
What are the odds of that happening? like almost zero. WOW Blew me away

I got the most amazing email today.
I don't know how many of you know the story about my mother. She was adopted as an infant. Even though she wasn't told this fact, she always knew. (She had ESP and that is where I get it from). She was raised as an only child. As an adult she tried to get her adoption records opened but there was this old judge who wouldn't open them-why? Who knows. Then about 20 years ago or so, the old judge retired and the new judge FINALLY granted my mother's request to have her records opened. So, in her 60s, she found out that both of her parents were gone but she had siblings-something she didn't have before.
It was a tricky situation-how do you announce to people who didn't know you that you are their long lost sister? But, my mother did it and they accepted her (and us) with open arms into the family. What was funny, one of her brother's wife had the exact same thing happen in her family. I have been keeping in touch with one of her brothers-my new uncle. He did come to my mother's memorial-the second time I met him.
Anyway, I sent him the links to the videos about our new (old) house and he offered an antique desk that used to be his mother's (my grandmother who I never met). He said that it could possible had belonged to my great-grandmother. He didn't want to sell it or give to just anyone. And they even offer to deliver it, too. (They live in New Hampshire.)

That is awesome, warped.
That's wonderful Cat! Apparently he knows that you would cherish it as much as does and would appreciate more then perhaps another member of the family. I'm excited for you!
