Subject: What's your favorite accent?
Written By: belmont22 on 11/10/12 at 5:39 am
I probably like Newfinese (from Newfoundland, Canada) and Geordie (from Newcastle, UK). They both have this blue-collar, fun-loving old school charm that I dig. :)

Noo Yawk haha. I live on the West Coast, the accent here is pretty different, though the New York accent is increasingly starting to sound like the accent here. It's kind of sad.

There are accents in other languages, too, that's why I was asking.

Oh right. Yeah I mostly meant accents of the English language, but you could say any accent I suppose. :)

I like the French accent (from France, not Quebec)
The British accent too.
I also like the Italian or Spanish accent. (whether they are speaking in their own language Or speaking in English with that particular accent)
Within North America, I like the "Boston" accent. I might like the Southern US accent (if I could understand what they were saying ;D ). Wife & I went to Virginia & North Carolina, and my wife could understand much less than half of what they were saying, so she hired me an a translator ;D, I got 75% of what they were saying. I'm sure they didn't have an easy time understanding us too, not sure.

I love the British accent. I don't know which one but It would fall more towards the aristocratic. Australian is another one I love.

Just looking at previous posts, what jumps out at me is how many North-Americans like the British accent.

It's fairly easy to imitate and it sounds softer I think. I find most regional US accents really annoying, and I'm sure my generic Western accent would annoy me if it wasn't my own accent.

Out of American dialects, I suppose I prefer either southern or standard mid-western. I speak with a southern accent myself but it is not as heavy as some of my neighbors.
From outside of the United States, I would say Russian or Icelandic are my favorites although I enjoy many different accents.

Do you notice a difference between the way western and midwestern people talk? I'm from the west coast and I've been to the Midwest once, and something about their speech is subtly different. I can't really pick what it is, but both my brother and my sister's SO's were born here, but their family is from the Midwest and they say certain words differently. I think pronouncing 'aunt' the same way as the insect probably gives away my Western accent. ;D

I haven't been to the west coast. The furthest west I've been is Nevada and Arizona.
I say "aunt" like "ant" too.

I'd say Nevada's pretty much the west coast since it's essentially a colony of California. In the same way Vermont and Pennsylvania are part of the east coast despite lacking an Atlantic shore line.

For true accent-British and Spanish are the best. Love.
For movie-made accents, this is always my hands down fave:

A proper Irish accent. British is also nice too. American accent it would have to be a Maine accent.

Maine accents are basically Boston accents on steroids. My grandmother (my mother's mother) had a Maine accent. I hated it.

Since I have lived in the New England part of the US most of my life, I have really come to love the New Englander accent. It's funny that I have lived here so long(it will be 25 years) and I don't have the accent. ?? Oh well.

I like my great lakes accent. Which you hear in places like Chicago, Cleveland, Buffalo, Detroit. I don't know if people here know but Clevelanders don't speak standard Midwestern. I actually was talking to a guy in the store a few weeks ago and talking about how I'm from Cleveland (I live in Columbus now), and the guy said "oh you have the accent. LOL ;D
Here's a wiki article on my accent:
