Anyway-  Tomorrow -  Decemember 31st I am going to go work from 0700-1700 then drive quick like a bunny to LA where I've been invited to a play by one of the stars Juliet Landau - I was supposed to see it two weeks ago but got knocked off my arse by my illness. she was sad I wasn't there and decided to invite me and my friends on NYE and after the play we're invited to the party they are having!

For those of you going who the hell is Juliet Landau  she played Drucilla on Buffy.

Spending it the way we have spent New Years for the past few years now-at our friends house. They always put on "The Party of the Year!" You wouldn't believe the spread they have-not to mention dancing, and just a great time! This year SIL will be joining us. Carlos & I are excited about it-like we always are.

I'll be starting a new semester of college in mid-January. That's about it.

Eating.

Starting with taking Sarah to TGI Friday's Sunday for her birthday.  Then working my butt off to save for my Vegas trip in Feb.

I'll be spending it at home.

New Years Eve will be spent with friends of my hubby (and their families...I guess I'd consider them friends of my own now too).  We've spent last NYE with them playing board games and had a good time.

New Years' Day, I'll get to see my parents.  We're meeting halfway at a Cracker Barrel.  That way it isn't too bad a drive for either of us.  I didn't get there for Christmas (been sick and broke).  So this will be our holiday meet.

We'll be exchanging gifts at both our friends and my parents.  Christmas came and went with no presents at all on the actual day.  ;D
Oh wait, I think the cat threw up on Christmas.  She didn't gift wrap it though.  ;D

Hopefully the zombie will be the slow moving kind, cause I hate running.  I watched part of Shaun of the Dead last night, love the part when they are sorting thru the records to see which ones they want to throw. ;D

Anyhow...tonight I'll watch some of the Twilight Zone marathon, might stay up until midnight, might not.  Hunter's birthday is on Monday but since they go back to school we'll probably celebrate it tomorrow with cake and a trip to Game Stop so he can spend his birthday money on more games.  :)

Went out to a friends house last night, 25 adults and 23 children (under 18).  None of the kids fought, interrupted, or cried... great night for all.  Made it till midnight, came home around 1:30...  Today is not very exciting.

Dilemma.  Does this post belong in December or January thread?...

What the hell, I'll post it here now I've started.

Not sure when I last posted.  Anyway on Thursday we drove to north Wales for a few days.  We were a bit late setting off so our planned en route activity of cycling/walking around a lake was cut somewhat short due to the failing light (and the cafe was shut).  We spend the evening sorting out our room at the hostel, rearranging furniture, collating and binding the club journal and organising the pool tournament, etc.

Friday we decide I will go with the kids on the 'C' walk - a gentle potter across fields and through some woodland.  Dai joins another group to do something a bit more adventurous on one of the mountains.  The rain is annoying, but not too heavy.  The paths are very wet in places and we cross several bogs.  A pretty uneventful walk apart from having the rescue a sheep from a metal feed ring.

Back at the hostel we play the first round of the table tennis and pool tournaments, set the jigsaw up (2000 pieces!), rehearse the pantomime, etc.  After dinner Richard and Gillian gave a slide show and talk about their exepriences whale watching off the coast of California/Mexico.  Then we had a variety show.  With Elizabeth and James, I started things off with a song the children had learned at scout camp.  It got things going with a bit of a bang!  A bit later I danced with my friend Jean.  We both go to Morris Dancing and it occurred to us that we could do one dance.  We didn't have any bells (so tied keys to our shoes), sticks (wooden spoons) or music (someone had a CD of French folky music and we found a suitable track), but it all went well.  Other people did some barber shop harmony, recited poems and played the ukelele.

On Saturday we again joined the 'C' group for a walk "south side of Betws y Coed".  Dai came with us into town and then went off on his bike around the woods the other side of the road.

We walked up a paved road into the woodland, heading towards a disused slate quarry.  The whole area is full of these, but this particular was known to have several ruined buildings that we thought would be fun to explore.  A path was spotted off to the right and a quick hop over the gate (labelled Danger Quarry and Keep Out) had us on the first of the levels.  When we first went into the quarry the impression I had off the walk leader was that we were cutting through here to pick up another path on the far side.  (In fact the OS map of the area shows a footpath going through the quarry).  This proved to be a false impression!

We found several ruined buildings from the quarry works.  The largest we at first thought was a barracks for the workers but we found some metal supports/griders in the furthest part and so we think it might be the workshops where the large slate slabs were cut to size.  We also came across the blacksmiths workshop and house and found one of the incline railway pulley wheels still in the ground.

The quarry itself had a number of different levels cut across the hill with steep slopes inbetween.  We walked up one of the inclines reasonably easily.  Then next was a scramble up the side of a spoil heap.  Eventually the walk leader admits that we need to navigate our way back to the original path by going 'cross country'.  Unfortunately the direct route had a huge gaping hole of the main quarry to get across, most of the group could not manage to climb back down the scramble and so it was onwards and upwards.  The kids thought it was great fun hacking a path through the brambles, assisting the less able up the rocks, around the fallen trees etc.  Eventually, one barbed wire fence, two climbs and a bramble patch later we found the path again.  Surely it was time for lunch!?  No, we had to up the path to Llyn Elsi before we were allowed to stop.

The rest of the walk was unadventurous in comparison, though the path down was somewhat treachorous under foot.

Back at the hostel in the evening we hustled round get the various pool and table tennis matches finshed so we could have the finals played before dinner.  We had an excellent dinner, followed by a couple of short speeches.  Then the room was cleared ready for the evenings entertainment.  First we sang some carols (yes, I know its after Christmas but it's traditional!), then we did our pantomime Snow White and the Seven Mountain Monsters.  If we forgot our cues or lines it only added to the fun!  After this the group president became Sir Ravioli and performed some magic tricks.  This was followed by a quiz.  I came second in this (but secretly claim victory because I was working on my own and the winners were a team of three).

Suddenly we realised it was nearly midnight!  Everyone gathered in the main room ready to sing Auld Lang Syne and then wish each other Happy New Year.

There was still stuff on the agenda!  Two games were played (family game and stations).  Eventually a majrity of the party decided it really was bedtime, though as I went past one group was getting ready to play a strange game involving stepping on your partners feet to get across the room and then balance out to put a bottle cap on the floor.  It looked likely to end in tears!

New Year's day morning and no rest for the wicked.  For the past 30 years or so the group has organised a fell race.  I was part of the registration team and then the finish team.  The weather was awful - very strong winds and rain that turned to hail as the morning went on.  Still that didn't stop 40 people from entering.  Dai went out last of all to check that no one was stuck on the route injured (we also had marshals out there noting race numbers)

After a welcome bowl of soup and slice of cake we headed home.  Thankfully the rain eased off to make the driving a little easier.

When we got home it was a quick turn around to go to my brothers house for a get together with my family.  After the meal they got out a roulette wheel with chocolate betting chips.  James and Elizabeth brought home a stack of their winnings to be enjoyed later.

today was much quieter, mainly spent doing laundry and cleaning kit and car.

I wish...  The wind has been blowing for 36+ hours now, in excess of 30mph with gusts of 50-60 mph...  It feels like it is coming straight through the house, you can actually feel when a gust hits the house.  Our bedroom, is out of the side with the wind.  It was sooo cool, very refreshing, but no matter how many clothes or blankets, I could not sleep well.  Of course, we go back to school tomorrow and I have caught a cold, sinus crap.  Drinking "Naked" drinks, taking steamy showers, now to use the sinus rinse  :P and Pepcid, lots of pepcid!

Of course that included two trips to the bathroom.  :-\\

Well, a snowflake fell out of the sky so my kids are home from school. ;D

Actually we got a dusting but some areas got more and lots of slicks spots.  My kids were out at 8:30 this morning sledding down the hill.

still waking up to grey wet mornings.  The rai is good though.

went to do laundry but the stupid laundry mat was full...oh well got some errands done and walked the dog.

I might be in the paper tomorrow.....apparently there've been some break ins in our neighborhood (I hadn't heard anything) and someone put up a big sign saying lock your doors and houses.... I happened to be walking by dude asked me what I thought and I thought it doesn't make me feel better seeing the sign - I think it creates an element of fear and mass panic. There's crime everywhere. It's a relatively safe neighborhood. I feel safe here so why panic about a few possibly isolated incidents. I'd like to numbers on the houses/cars that were burg'd  but whatever....watch my car'll be broken into tomorrow or the next day  ::)

Suddenly we realised it was nearly midnight!  Everyone gathered in the main room ready to sing Auld Lang Syne and then wish each other Happy New Year.

There was still stuff on the agenda!  Two games were played (family game and stations).  Eventually a majrity of the party decided it really was bedtime, though as I went past one group was getting ready to play a strange game involving stepping on your partners feet to get across the room and then balance out to put a bottle cap on the floor.  It looked likely to end in tears!

New Year's day morning and no rest for the wicked.  For the past 30 years or so the group has organised a fell race.  I was part of the registration team and then the finish team.  The weather was awful - very strong winds and rain that turned to hail as the morning went on.  Still that didn't stop 40 people from entering.  Dai went out last of all to check that no one was stuck on the route injured (we also had marshals out there noting race numbers)

After a welcome bowl of soup and slice of cake we headed home.  Thankfully the rain eased off to make the driving a little easier.

When we got home it was a quick turn around to go to my brothers house for a get together with my family.  After the meal they got out a roulette wheel with chocolate betting chips.  James and Elizabeth brought home a stack of their winnings to be enjoyed later.

today was much quieter, mainly spent doing laundry and cleaning kit and car.

Today, one more was supposed to come back from baby leave today.  You guessed it, she quit too, no notice.


4 in two weeks.  Seriously?  I hate hiring....


On the bright side, being low on employees means more work for the rest of us and more options for overtime.  Good timing.  I need tires, breaks, a windshield and a new battery before the end of March.  Plus there is that little Vegas thing in February.

We also got James some new school sweatshirts.  He really wanted a hoodie style but they only do hoods on their zippered 'cardigan' style tops.  Anyway hopefully I can find a generic royal blue hoodie sweatshirt in one of the other shops (though it's a funny time of year to get school stuff - the supermarkets only have a very limited stock at the moment)

Sometimes I feel worn out by having the same routine, I've had the same one for quite a long time, It's not too bad but I've learned to adjust to it quickly by getting up in the morning every single day including weekends and holidays at or about 530am to start my day. I'm trying to be a morning person.

In my garden and making evil plans.  Already ordered some seeds for various varieties of verbena seeds. They are a host plant as well as food for that buckeye butterfly I like that comes here in the fall.  Making evil plans as usual.

I got a little lucky.  My grandmother had something in the "unclaimed property" fund.  I was able to claim part of it, my share.  It was $50 more than I spent on the brakes so at least it wasn't out of budget for me.

Sitting in my sister's living room resting, went into Manhattan today.  We rode the Staten Island Ferry then hopped on the subway to SoHo.  We went to a cool store called KidRobot and then we went to Sephora.  Had lunch then had some of the best mini cupcakes.  Hit the Scholastic Book Store, I read the cutest book called "Good Night, iPad"...a modern version of "Good Night, Moon". Took the subway back and went to a museum of Native Americans.  It was a great day.

Just found out on Facebook that a friend of mine from high school died yesterday.  Not sure how yet but it saddens me.  :(
