My sister-in-laws birthday today.

Leaves need sweeping up again.  I should really go out and do that.

Otherwise not a lot happening.

Really paying attention to how much sun different spots in my garden get.  I have stuff in my room I need to put away.  I get to wait for mom to tell me how much money I need to give her after she's done telling me how expensive the trip was.  I get to continuing praying that I get some kind of for my tumor and possibly some advice for my mom before I shoot her or end up jumping off a building or something.

it's about the same. Some bad times in the last month but recovered from them all.  I'm just being tge dutiful daughter and going now so I don't have to go in Dec.

Why so angry about it?  ???

I'm mad because I really hate driving to AZ. It's 500 miles. Takes 7-9 hrs depending on weather, traffic, cops,
I just wish my parents would move bsck to Cali. Anywhere in the state except say eureka or humbolt  because that'd be an equally obnoxious drive.

Howard, I wasn't serious about shooting him.  I haven't even met him yet so I don't know if he is a bad kid or not.  Just a little mama bear coming out in me.  Don't want my baby growing up.

When I brought home a girl, the girl always wanted to meet my parents or vice versa, though I was a little nervous in how the parents perceived
me, the last girl I went out with, the parents wanted to me to get a full time job, make the same amount of income as she did and to get married later on in life, I felt she took things way too fast for me but I tried to be on her level but it was much too hard for me to do so, having a part time job, making a good income, it was difficult for me for Her and I to stay together, that's why I want to work on myself first, then we'll see about getting into a relationship.

Naw. I tend to get distracted by them making it all about themselves. This one time I was posting in a thread and I said something funny and I really enjoyed going back to it to see how many people commented on how funny my post was because I have been here about 7 yrs now and I really make an effort to joke and laugh with people. I have entertained more than my fair share of folks here and I will probably try to continue to do so for many years to come.

What about you? Do you find my posts funny? Oh wait I already know you do.  ;D

Dai has gone down to his mum's to fetch Elizabeth home again.  He's staying there tomorrow and they will be back on Saturday in tome to go to a bonfire/fireworks somewhere.

The company auditor came in to our office today.  Mainly looking at how the new I.T. system was working and asking me about my daily routine.  Hope I didn't say anything that I shouldn't have!

And of course having mentioned how I generally worked 9 - 1 except Tuesdays (end of the sales week for us) my boss then clears out to an appointment and asks me to stay till 3!  i wish he'd give me more notice.  I spend almost as much as I earn buying lunch.  It's worse when he then gives me the time off in lieu.

Yesterday James and I cleared leaves from the front of the house.  Really need to clear the back lawn as well but the composting bin is pretty full.

Went to the local university for their bonfire and fireworks last night.  We cycled to the event as it's only up the road and there is a pretty good cycle path to use.  James got distracted at one point watching the fireworks in someones garden and he rode into a rosebed at the side of the path!  Could've been worse.  If he'd swerved the other way he'd be in the road.

Last year we got there fairly early and got cold stood about waiting for the show to start.  This year (partly due to disorganisation on our part) we got there just in time.  And I mean that literally - as we stepped through the gates the crowd was doing the countdown for the laser "extravanganza" to start!

Wasn't my idea. I told my mom years ago I could care less about 40, 45 or 50 but 44 was the one I wanted to celebrate.  I was planning a huge birthday extravaganza but I was really afraid only 5 ppl would show up (because of the proximity to Xmas) so I decided no party no chance of disappointment. My mom knew I wouldn't make it back to az next month so she threw me a party this weekend so they could help me the birthday I'm most excited about.

Hugely totally works  ;D

A) 44 is my signature (& therefore lucky) number.

B) It was the body number assigned me at work.

C) if you add up T+Q+G (using the formula a=1 & z=26) it adds up to 44  8)

We both figured it would be a good time to do some shopping since Carlos wasn't there and we both know how much he hates to shop. Gotta love those "Girls afternoon out!"  ;D ;D

Hugely totally works  ;D

A) 44 is my signature (& therefore lucky) number.

B) It was the body number assigned me at work.

C) if you add up T+Q+G (using the formula a=1 & z=26) it adds up to 44  8)

Good reasoning.

Okay - today has been so lame for a weekend... but had to be done.  Pack away all summer clothes, and get out winter clothes.  Found out, as I expected, many of my eldest daughter's long sleeved t-s and sweaters are too small.  UGGH  Also threw away broken, unused, badly worn clutter from the rooms.  Next, to go through the toy room.  They are wanting some cashy presents this year - the 10 year old is at that "not old enough, but too old for toys" stage.  At this point I am thinking about getting the "big ticket" items and being done - so I don't have all the other clutter.  UGGGHHHH....  grrr

Wow 44? You look good for 44.

So this afternoon I went to the bowling alley for a friend's birthday celebration. This friend is a young lady (altho she's presently in her late 30s) who I know from church, and five other people showed up too (7 altogether). As a gift, I gave her a scented candle and a beautiful greeting card. The seven of us bowled a full game, which took an hour to complete. Of course, we did it just for enjoyment; no one cared about winning or losing or anything like that; we just had fun. I managed to get a couple of strikes...and a few gutter balls here and there. After we bowled, we had cake and my friend (whose name is Alesha) opened her gifts. She seemed to have a wonderful time, as did the rest of us.

Got a puncture on my bike today on my way to work.  I had only just left James's school so I took my bike back there to lock it up and then walked to work.  I was only 10-15 minutes late.  :-\\

My dad called mid-morning about seeing me this afternoon so he came by my work to pick me up.  :)

Now I just hope we can fix the puncture tonight.

This Sunday is Remembrance Day in the UK.  In the first couple of weeks of November it is traditional to wear a poppy.  The money raised by the sale of the paper poppies goes to a veterans charity.  There will be a parade in town (both children will be marching with their Scout group) and a service at the war memorial.  Various groups will lay poppy wreaths at the foot of the memorial tower as part of the service.

I remember where we lived in the US the children made 'poppy' wreaths and laid them on the graves of veterans' buried in the cemetery next to the school.  Does this happen across the US?  And what about people living elsewhere - what is traditionally done to observe this day?

We have Veteran's Day on 11/11. This year will be the 100th anniversary of the Armistice-11/11/11. The observation of the day is usually low key. In our little town, there is a little ceremony at the flag pole that is in the center of town. Then the high school band marches around the town green and that is it. Very few people attend it. I only know about it because I live so close to the center of town-in fact, I can see the flag pole where I am sitting right now. Applebees observe it with a promotion of veterans eat free. I never remember about it until after. This year I have remembered but I don't think we are going to be able to take advantage of it because of other obligations we have on Friday.

I was taught that Veteran's Day is for the people who are alive and it is Memorial Day that is for the ones who lost their lives.

It is Memorial Day in this country where people will lay wreaths on graves. However, in this country people seem to forget WHAT the day is for. It is usually known at the first weekend of summer and most people have barbecues & such. Our little town has Spring Fling on the Saturday before-which is when we have our barbecue, so that way on Memorial Day (which is ALWAYS on a Monday) can be spent in a more somber observance.

We have small ceremonies, too.  When my father was alive, his branch of the VFW used to go put flags on veterans graves.  I know that some sell poppies outside stores to benefit vets.

Armistice Day was big with my dad.  Makes me miss him.

Yeah yeah I totally forgot about Memorial day.  Maybe that was when we made the poppy wreaths.  :-\\

And I know what you mean about peope forgetting the reason for the parade.  Both James and Elizabeth paraded in our local town in the US and I remember another parent complaining because the children weren't allowed to throw candy out to the crowd.  I was totally gobsmacked that she should think that they should throw candy around the place!  It isn't the start of a party  :-\\

That's too bad. :-\\ When I was growing up, I only had school on that day if it fell on a Wednesday or a Thursday. In such cases, the school would observe the holiday on the previous Monday.

Once I entered the university, we didn't get the day off at all for the first few years I was there. Actually, the defacto "observance" of it would be one of the weekdays between Christmas and New Year's, and we never had President's Day off (because its "observance" would also be one of those weekdays!). In one regard, I didn't care one way or the other.

No it isn't. My paternal grandmother has had the condition for at least a couple years now, and now her condition is worsening even more. I know this because my grandfather has been giving us updates every few days or so via the phone.
Also, I have a great-aunt who is in the early stages.

No it isn't. My paternal grandmother has had the condition for at least a couple years now, and now her condition is worsening even more. I know this because my grandfather has been giving us updates every few days or so via the phone.
Also, I have a great-aunt who is in the early stages.

I think my grandmother is getting it and she's 91 years old.

It's a groovy start like I've said in the past somewhere, 7 or more hours of direct sun light in 100 just doesn't work well for plants.  The flowers are lights that are not getting enough sun this time of year to light up at night, but they will.  I also plan on ordering a watering can that looks like a tea pot and am going to make it pour water into the pond.  This is my idea for possibly getting better circulation in the pond.  I dont really want to do a waterfall and buy or make rocks for it.  We don't really have rocks here, just dirt clods frogs, mad mushrooms, mad tea party, it all seems to fit to me.

Congratz to her... and speaking of dishwashers, I'm almost certain that we could use another one, as the one we have seems to not get our dishes very clean, and we only had it installed four years ago. Either that or some adjustments need to be made.

Do you ever run it empty or use a dishwasher cleaner?

Maybe the salt or rinse aid needs topping up

You should occasionally run the dishwasher empty except for either a bottle of dishwasher cleaner in the cutlery basket or a cup of vinegar/lemon juice in the upper tray.  I generally clean out the drain area first before doing this.  And check for sweetcorn kernels in the sprayer arms.

Tomorrow after school James and his friend Rory are (with my help) running a cake stall (as apparently are about 30 others in his year group!).  This is to raise money for Children in Need.

I'm also supposed to be finding him something spotty to wear to school on Friday.  :-\\

We had a similar problem at our house with a dishwasher that's only 2 years old.  I bought some dishwasher cleaner at the grocery store - it was near the dishwasher soap - and ran the dishwasher empty with just the cleaner in it.  Worked WONDERS!!

How time flies...it's been nearly 6 months since I got the keys to my apartment.

I was brutally reminded of this by the ... whaddayacallit. I've no idea.  :-\\ It's a large machine that produces a steady flow of air throughout the apartment. It heats the incoming air by leftover heat from the outstreaming air. In Dutch it's called a warmteterugwininstallatie. I'm sure there's an English (or American English) term for it.

Anyway, what I'm trying to say... the display showed FiltEr. At first I had no idea what to do. Then I remembered something about having to clean the filters on said machine every once in a while. Apparently, a while had passed... ::) I went looking for the manual (couldn't find it at first), and when I read it I found out I had to REPLACE the filters... Because I realized it had already been six months!

So guess what I'm going out to buy tomorrow...?

I survived the week!

Felt really crappy at work today - headache, stomach cramps, shivering fits!

Then I had to call in the library to rent a DVD, get home and run the vacumm over the hall and dining room and finish tidying.  Elizabeth had a group of friends around for a birthday gathering.  They watched most of the DVD, but really just wanted to chat and mess around.  Bought in pizza and chicken pieces from a place in town - surprisingly tasty if a little heavy on the grease!

After the friends went home we whizzed around again to get Elizabeth packed off to Scout camp for the weekend!!

Hopefully I can get a bit of a lie-in tomorrow while Dai goes to the meeting with the financial adviser.

I HATE cleaning which is why I hire someone to do it for me. In fact, I recently had to replace my cleaning person. (The other one was busy with the clean-up from Irene and scrubbing my toilet was way down on her priority list.) The new one cleans a bit better IMO & she charges me less $$. WAY COOL!!!  Last month I ran into the old cleaning person and told her that I had to hire someone else and she said that she is not offended.

For the last week in between appointments, I had been working on my computer. First running a back-up-TWICE (on external hard drives), then I had to create a systems recovery disk (actually 3 of them-but it is one program). I also put links to all my favorite websites in an email that I sent to myself.  When everything was set-I reinstalled the OS. Had to do it twice because the first time didn't take-don't know why. Then it was a matter of rebuilding everything. When I did this on my last computer, it saved everything but moved it to another section. This one just wiped it all out. Good thing I had my two back-ups. First ran the back-up to reinstall all my files. I realized that the downloaded programs exe files were still there but I just needed to reinstall them. Many of the programs I didn't reinstall because I never used them in the first place. I made sure that a lot of these programs that I reinstalled (either from a download or from a disk) wasn't on the start up menu. You would be surprised at how many programs want to be on your start up menu. I then ran malware scan (yup-there was some there), and did a registry clean up. The only thing left is get all my favorite websites bookmarked again. I do have some of them. Just went to that email, clicked on the link & bookmarked it. Extremely easy.

It was all a PAIN IN THE @$$ but I have to say that now, my computer is running better than it EVER did! Even better than the day I brought it home. It is like having a brand new computer. I was thinking as long as the hardware holds out, I could do this every few years and this computer will probably last a lot longer than the 4 years I had been figuring. Unless, there is some new fangled gadget that I just HAVE TO HAVE!  ;)

Sadly, it is the greasy ones that taste the best.  ;)

I do not find cleaning enjoyable, but can do it once in a while.  I hate new furniture that collects dust all the time.  I don't keep up with it and don't seem to care.

I find cleaning my room relaxing, it clears my mind, I just don't like too much dust building up all the time.

I'm more of a sorting person and actually that's what I've kind of been doing.  I've reminded myself about how much I hate my closet and the closet disorganizers and how much I hate my room.  Maybe it's time for me to just get rid of just about everything I have then I wont forget what I have hiding in my closet. Now my room is messy with stuff on my floor and stuff.  Oh that's where I put this last month.

I can relate. I like to keep things organized, whether they be in my closet, my room in general, the garage, or wherever. Sometimes any of those places get gradually disorganized even though I make an effort to keep them organized. And then I wanna reorganize one of them but it often takes me more than a whole day to do so. There are also times when I can't find a place to put certain things, but can't part with others. It gets crazy.

So anyway, today is my mom's 60th birthday and we've been celebrating all weekend. As I mentioned in another thread ("Happy birthday anybody"), we did most of the celebrating yesterday... and today we're probably gonna take it easy for the most part.

Happy birthday to your mom Jeff.

Yesterday was a party for my landlord's 80th birthday.  I couldn't attend because I was working the 2nd of 3 consecutive 14hr days.  He told me the night before that he would have a plate of food ready and waiting for me when I got home last night.... when I did get home, at 2200 hrs, all the lights in the house were off. There was one light on in the driveway and his truck was gone. I figured maybe they went out or something since that particular light is never turned on.  Anyway I wrote him a card and slipped it on the door.  This morning the truck was still gone and the light was still on, the card was still on the door.  I was worried that something happened because it's not like them to go away overnight. I called the ER to see if he or his wife were in the hospital... they weren't.  Turns out  they were at home all along he moved his car to the street.... except I park on the street and didn't see it parked there (yes I looked).  needless to say I never got fed last night  >:(

Weirdest morning at work ever!

So, as most of you know, I work for a home improvements company.  We have several lads who go around the county knocking on doors, setting up appointments.  A manager calls the customer to confirm the appointment and one of my jobs is to call the customer to let them know who will be calling out to see them.

I called a customer today to let them know who was calling to see them, I check the address and then check that both of them will be there.  He said he didn't think his mrs would be there and asked why we needed to see her anyway because it was his money.  I explained and then he took the funnies a bit and said we could forget the appointment if we wouldn't go and see him alone.

ABout half an hour later he called back saying that the lad who booked the appointment had phoned him threatening to set fire to his house!  He then went on to say that someone was outside the house and had just thrown a brick at the property.  He asks to speak to the manager.  I explain that the manager isn't available but I will get him to call as soon as possible.

I phone my manager, explain the situation and he asks me to call the manager who confirmed the appointment.  So i talk to him and text him the details.

The customer calls back to say there was someone outside his house threatening them.  He insists on speaking to the manager and when i say that someone will call him asap he starts to splutter about how he was nearly attacked.  His wife then says something in the background and then he tells me his wife wants to call the police and that's what he is going to do.

Later on in the morning I speak to someone from the local police just confirming our office phone numbers.  Then the same officer contacts my manager and keeps insisting on knowing what rep we sent out to the customer.  Finally grasping that we didn't send anybody out she then asks who we intended to send out.  Like that made a difference.  there wasn't time for anyone to drive from our office across to where the customer lives to be outside there.  the police started to accuse the manager of police obstruction.  Anyway apparently I'll have to speak to them sometime.

conclusion in the office is that this guy is off his head!!

Oh and i got my unsigned 8x10s (pics I need autographs on) sorted they are now in an organizer in my car instead of sitting stacked in random piles around my desk....only one pic, out of maybe 100, is damaged.....

two pics..... unfortunately I found that pic I meant to send to Dag about a yr ago.... it got dinged a bit.... :-\\

I also found another 100 autographed pics I need to scan and load online.....but my stupid external hard drive crashed... I wanna see if I can get that fixed (I know a guy) and restore the 217 some odd pics I already scanned....those are on face book... I think I'm gonna separate them into multiple albums tho because I think the one album is a bit overwhelming..... ie not much traffic from my friends  :P

The sun was supposed to come out today and it's still hiding.  I was looking for that Donald duck cartoon on youtube in which the sun is out.  All happy, Donald gets his golf clubs and the second he gets outside, rain pours on him.  That's what it's been like here except it's just gray and not much rain if any.  I had got myself a lily flower water spitter I wanted to try out.

Sometimes I don't understand things that are discussed, either.

By the way, I took a look at your parody but didn't comment/vote on it, mostly because I'm not too familiar with the OS (although I may have heard it once... then again, there's always Youtube), but I trust that it is well paced.

I get frustrated over there that ( and I'm not the only one) can have 40 or more views and even sometimes no comments.  It doesn't happen once in a while with a song someone may not know, but a regular deal.  I'm poking fun at Below Average Dave who was shocked that someone going deaf would record for themself.  Well he got me started and seems like I never got a comment from a write again.  I don't know if I remember any comments at soundclick either.  It would be cool if BAD comments on my parody.

have you tried running AVG, a spyware detector program.

I already have spyware/malware protection, Howard. That's not the problem.

Spent a good portion of the day getting rid of all those pesky oak leaves and cleaning up around outside.  Now time to put up the lights, colored lights.  :)

I like multi-colored lights, it gets boring seeing just white lights.  My neighbors put up some of those LED lights, those are really bright.

there's some sunlight today, but it's very windy and cooooooooold.  It feels like it is going to be an all day headache day for me.  I'm trying to think of what I video and put on my soundclick and or youtube accounts.  I need ideas which I'm sure I can do, but especially if I'm going to put it over at soundclick, I will be needing music.  we have a midi keyboard in the house and I can play the harmonica.  There's a guitar in the house too, but I don't really play guitar (  MTV maybe playing my harmonica?).  I seem to be weird and evil so those are the type of songs and Ideas I'm trying to think of.  I'm going to take a look at all the silly costume type stuff Iv'e held on to.

I agree. The LED's also are supposed to be energy-efficient. We've gotten some of them and often use them outside.

yesterday I looked at some costume stuff and today I've been trying to listen to some music.  I had bought a  a CD that had Karn Evil 1.2 and that was easy Enough for me to follow the lyrics mostly.  I can probably use that to start something if I can come up with something.  The only Emerson, Lake & Palmer song I think I know is Lucky Man.  A monster that was just found a guy to be very yucky maybe? the best way to do music backing is the most difficult part for me.  Soundclick will let you make and use whatever you want for your background and stuff so I'm kind of trying to work with it and do some kind of music.  I might end up just sticking to writing parodies and making pictures.  Just kill my soundclick all the way.

UH OOOOO

MTV with harmonica  and some midi keyboard help.  I should have learned to play the guitar.    I'll see if I can write something

looks like I got some kind of monster project starting and a jester moving in.      I'm comming to take me away ha ha      oh, better list that in my in my insane song list

Two weeks ago I went to get a sticker for my car.  REJECTED!  Needed ball joints and tires, got tires, Sig put in ball joints(he's been doing this stuff for over 40 years).  Went back to get the sticker.  REJECTED!  The front end still needs work.  Sig checked it out, had another mechanic check it out, nothing wrong.  Sig took it back to get the sticker...."well, the tie rod ends look loose".  Took it back Sig put in tie rod ends, went back.  Different guy..."We'll give you the sticker but you need some work on this front end"  Think some one was trying to do some unnecessary work on a car?  Think they ran into the wrong person today?

I really hate that.  My friend took her car to be inspected an it was rejected for the same reason, took it home and he husband started to work on it...they were fine!!  He raised hell at the auto place.

Move to TN...you can drive a car out of a junk yard and you wouldn't need a sticker...or insurance.  :o

That's why I only go to places that just do the inspections.  They don't tell you that you need repairs you don't need because there is no money in it for them.

We don't have any of those.  All inspection stations are garages and one always has to be careful. I make a point of not having work done at a station where I have my inspection, but I am lucky, Sig can do it, or knows someone who can, but I do know that people are being fleeced everyday.

That's smart, then.  I don't know much about cars and don't have anyone who can do my repairs so those places are a god send.  I trust my mechanic, but I still won't go to him for inspection.

We have two Toyota cars, and we usually take them to be serviced at a Toyota dealer. When we got our Camry (which is still running) 20 years ago, we got it from the North Hollywood dealer, and since we lived in the Valley at the time, we usually took it for its regular services there, since it was close and convenient; more importantly, the people there know Toyotas real well, and they always did an excellent job. Even after we moved out to Oxnard ten years ago, we still would take it out there for its services (even though it's a 50-mile drive from our house), but now that it's an older car, we don't like to take it that far anymore, for safety reasons. Thankfully there is a Toyota dealer near our home (namely, Toyota of Oxnard, only 2 miles away) so if it needs work to be done to it, we'll go there...like we did three weeks ago when it needed a hose replacement and a few other adjustments.
