That is funny. But I've also noticed that I pay more attention to the comments now than I have in the past. 

A guy at work caught two people out with the same April Fool.  First time he ran into the office area asking where the boss was.  He claimed he'd just hit his car mirror and smashed it right off.  Cue assitant manager jumping up shrieking and running out to look, closely followed by one of the sales reps.  Then later on, when the boss had arrived, he ran into the bosses office making the same claim and got the boss all worked up!

Spent this morning in the back garden, clearing roots, stones, bricks etc and trying to level the area to prep it for the grass seed.  Still not done!  This afternoon as a change of scene we cycled to a cake shop for a quick snack.  Dai had spotted the place last weekend, and we hoped they'd do drinks and have a seating area but they didn't.  Nice cakes though; I had a strawberry cheesecake cupcake.

I was trying to come up with something stupid I can put in for an avatar comment, but gave up.  I was also going to get rid of or change my sig picture.  Might want to wait a little while.   My gazanias aren't blooming now, but my African Daisies are and I just got some verbena and put the two in a pot together.

Those are names to be used by the professional bull riders association, most of them have to do with their spinnin, jumping, kicking techniques; not on their breeding and muscling, marbeling abilities...

This little guy will not have an agressive, shorthorns have a natural tendency to be docile!  That's the way I like em.

Well I can tell you this one is not a cow, but a bull (intact male). They are all cattle.

Spent the morning working in the garden.  Dai was raking/levelling the soil and I was clearing stones and roots.  Managed to dig out yet more bricks and slabs!  The ground is nearly level and we should be able to sow the grass seed soon.

Concert this evening, with Elizabeth singing in the choir.  Some good pieces but one bit was a bit boring if I'm honest!  Mostly entertained myself by watching a guy a few rows in front of me - he didn't just nod his head in time with the music, his shoulders twitched in time with the drums, as the choir sang higher he sat more upright and then started to lean backwards in his seat.  Hard to describe but funny to watch!

Today I had a job interview. First the trousers I had planned to wear no longer fit (damn you comfort eating) frantic rethink of outfit. When I arrived for my tour they called me 'Gill' on my way back from my tour to the interview room my shoe split. It wasn't the greatest of interviews either. Oh well all good experience for when I ever get another  :-\\

Today I had a job interview. First the trousers I had planned to wear no longer fit (damn you comfort eating) frantic rethink of outfit. When I arrived for my tour they called me 'Gill' on my way back from my tour to the interview room my shoe split. It wasn't the greatest of interviews either. Oh well all good experience for when I ever get another  :-\\

So yesterday I was in a parking lot. The shopping center has a road that separates two lots but it's most definitely a parking lot road not a road used by just anyone- ie it's not a shortcut to or around the area- 

So Just as I step into the street to cross from one lot to another I see a van approach but it has a stop sign so I continue on my way. Instead of stopping the van pauses (Cali stop) and acerbates thru the stop nearly running me over it would've hit me if I didn't stop as soon as I heard him accelerate.  It wasn't like he didn't see me cuz I threw my arms out in a WTF gesture. You know palms up arms straight out.

Anyway I was on my way back to my car and it just so happens that dude parked right next me. I made some remark about not stopping for pedestrians and he gave me some half assed I'm sorry all while walking away from me.

The van had a business name on the side. If the dude had been sincere or even made an attempt to slow down I might not've said anything but he saw me, and ran astop sign to 'get past me' it was ridiculously close.

Anyway I called the business. Turns out they sold part of it to another company but she was pissed cuz her name is still on the van.

I called the company and left a message for the manager I did say the guy apologized but I wanted them to be aware of what he was doing out there. Today got message saying thanks. They talked to the driver and he won't be working with them much longer. That'll teach him to mess with me.

Honestly tho was thinking a reprimand of some sort but then again maybe they had issues with him and this was the last straw.

When I arrived for my tour they called me 'Gill' on my way back from my tour to the interview room my shoe split. It wasn't the greatest of interviews either. My friend's husband left her a couple of months ago so she'e been trying to do all the stuff that needs to be done around the house by herself.  Yesterday I looked out the window and saw her mowing her yard so I decided to help.  Then when I was finished there I looked at my yard and realized it needed to be mowed, so I decided to do mine.  What was I thinking?  ;D

I was going to stop about halfway through but I texted my hubby and told him I was mowing (he usually uses the riding mower to do it) and he replied to me "YOU'RE mowing, lol!!".  So I was determined to finish it, even if I had to crawl to get it done.  ;D (I live on a big hill, so it wasn't that east to do.).

Hubby came home and asked why I mowed and I said to him I was tired of looking at the tall grass and it didn't look like anyone esle was going to do it.

Antway, that's why I'm sore, mostly my arms especially my right (the one used to start the mower.).

still garden crazy, but maybe I'll just shut up and show ya all what it looks like when I'm done.  The seed growing and stuff will take a while and you know I cant wait, but I dont want any of you becoming like the lady in Airplane.

Had a dentist appointment this morning.  8-P The good news it at it was at my "old" dentist instead of the one that is around the corner from here. My "old" hygienist did a WONDERFUL job-she desensitized my teeth BEFORE she cleaned-and did not charge for it all. The other place, I had to fight with them to desensitize my teeth and they kept saying that the insurance co. wouldn't pay for it. I told them that I didn't give a d@mn if the insurance co. would pay for it or not, I want to be able to eat without having pain. I am so glad that we went back to the "old" dentist.

I wouldn't ask her, her mower is really hard to push and mine is self-propelled.  I mowed our lawn once with a regular mower, thought I was gonna die.  ;D

I LOVE to mow..... it is my stress relief, I just wish I had a larger yard, where I could loose myself in mowing.  One of the things I loved about working at a golf course (wish I could get paid well mowing)!  I even wear perfume called fresh grass, and have candles grass scented...  Unfortunately I am also allergic to it, but HEY that is what allergy shots are for... 8)

we are going to Dai's mums for the weekend and leavign Elizabeth there for the week.  Her school finished today, James does not finish for another week.

The weather has been lovely here, and I hope it cotinues.  James asked me to turn on the air con the other day.  His face was a picture when I told him we didn't have any here!

About  getting some sort of TTY, we'll we don't even have a land line any more.  I was looking into some of the new portable things, but if I need a land line to set them up then I'm out of luck.  I cant afford to pay for one right now.  Not a letter or word to the hose from SSI.  I thought they might be sending me a paper about being a payee or something.  Well, I cant call them, I don't know, I only asked to become my own payee to try and  do something for myself, i don't know,  I should be happy for wanting to try, I think I may have overlooked the fact that mom decided to no longer have a land line in the house,  and I don't know.

thanks...more importantly (I guess  ;) ) is the girl didn't have time to hurt herself and she's getting help at local hospital...probably won't help but it's a start.

I posted this in another thread but I want to repeat myself (so sue me  :D ;D ;D ;D)  Carlos turns the big 65 in June.  :o :o :o  Yup-I will be married to a senior citizen then.  :D ;D ;D ;D  Anyway, we were under the impression that when he hits that magic number, the health insurance we have been using from the college will end-since he will be eligible for Medicare. He had been looking into Tricare which is insurance for veterans' families or some other supplemental insurance . I don't really have to worry because for my basic care, I go to the V.A. but, I thought that I would be S.O.L. in terms of going to the chiropractor & the dentist-which his insurance paid for.

Today, we BOTH got a letter from the state colleges saying that as of June 1st, we will be in a different category but the insurance is NOT going to stop.  :o :o :o  We were both very surprised and very relieved.

Went to opening night of Sarah's play last night.  They did an excellent job.  It didn't seem like a jr high play to me. 

Besides one flubbed line, one thing happened that was not planned.  They were ending a dance routine and Sarah had to end up center stage front.  She got there and her skirt fell down.  Can you say thank God for bloomers? ;D  She ended the scene and pulled the skirt back up and went on like nothing happened.  I was proud of her.


Today I got my eyebrows threaded for the first time.  Kinda like waxing but with thread.  I have never plucked or waxed or anything so it is a big change.  The tops didn't hurt but the bottom hurt like a bugger.  I like it, though.  I will probably keep doing it.

The last commendation I got was by this guy's mentor... a sergeant. It was relating to my handling of a rape victim.  I got the commendation and my name was spelled right but I was commendated on my handling of a suicidal subject.  ::)  you know our department really is too small to not get this stuff right.

Funniest/grossest part of the nite? Towards the last two songs this drunk girl in front of me started throwing up in her drink cup.  It was funny when she tried to wipe her mouth on her friends sweatshirt.
After the show the friends set the cup down and of course someone kicked it.
I didn't want to fight the first wave so I stayed in my seat and warned people not to step in that.
As I finally started to leave this woman (also drunk) in the row in front of the row in front of me fell against her sober friend. The friend fell backwards but caught herself before completely falling down? How'd she catch herself? By putting her full palm in the vomit!  8-P

As for us, it was a really nice time yesterday. Our daughter-in-law's parents are so nice. We both really like them. But, every time we see them, I feel like my New "Yowk" accent becomes so much stronger. (They are from Long Island.) I even got along great with Carlos' ex. We were mainly talking about menopause.  :D ;D ;D ;D

We have a game every night.  At least they alternate, one night is Hunter and the next is Megan.  It should get interesting when they both have a game on the same night at a different field.  Good thing I only have two kids.  :D

Found out it may be sooner than I thought.  It is out at UMass so we are going to work a week or two, then shut down for a couple of weeks for finals and graduation.  Construction outside the window isn't conducive to those activities.  The biggest problem is that we are going to work the weekend, and since I haven't worked all year I will have to, and this is the weekend of the annual mother/son New York trip.  We haven't missed one since we started it about 10 years ago.  It falls right on youngones birthday and school vacation.  I will have to move it up a couple of weeks so we will still go, but...y'know. :(

Jake is my 12 year old chocolate lab and I think I need to put him down.  He's having trouble getting up and down and the meds were are giving him aren't working much anymore (he has arthritis).

I slept on the couch last night because he couldn't get on the bed (I've been helping him up for the last few months but he wouldn't llet me last night) and spent 30 minutes pacing back and forth next to the bed.  If I'm in the bed he wants in the bed. So the couch was better, he settles down on the floor next to me.  He has trouble going up steps but I usually walk behind him and kinda boost his rear-end up, but today he won't even let me do that. Now he's stuck in the basement. 

I guess I do know what I have to do...I've thought about taking him to PetSmart and letting him pick out what ever he wants, something good to eat and maybe even get him a giant chocolate bar (he loves chocolate but he can't eat it cause it's lethal for dogs.) and let him enjoy it.

Oh Carol I am so sorry.
The chocolate would be a great idea, if only you wouldn't have to worry about the clean up afterwards.
I would call the vet and see about feeding him chocolate that isn't chocolate... I know it's out there.

I'm sooooo sorry. I know how it is like having to make that decision. (Had to do that my Bear). You always question yourself about was it right the decision or not. Talk to your vet. They deal with these kinds of decisions all the time. They may be able to have better answers for you.

So sorry to hear this. It must be heartbreaking for you. Of course I wouldn't know, I never had a pet (of any sort).

No, UMass Boston.  This is an interesting story.  The University built was by a very corrupt political regime.  Kick backs,  shoddy work(real bad),  ugly, ugly architecture.  Now 25 years later they are going to be rebuilding it one building at at time.  Did I mention that the contracts for the old buildings were handed out by a republican governor.

So this weekend is usually our mother/son New York weekend, we have been doing it for about 10 years, It is always this weekend because Jakes birthday coincides wonderfully with school vacation week and the Patriots Day Monday holiday.  I make the arrangements in advance and find good rates.  This year I haven't worked much, but got a call to go and they decided they wanted to work the holiday, THE FIRST TIME EVER!  Well I had to explain to Jake that I have to work since it is the first work I have gotten all year, and when I get laid off we will go, to sweeten the pot I told him we will stay an extra day when we go.  I held off canceling the arrangements until Friday noontime, just in case they said we would actually have the weekend off.  At lunchtime I called and canceled everything, at 2:45 they said ooooppps...no, we won't be working the holiday.  MAN OH MAN!  I scrambled, but it was too late to get a seat on the train, all sold out.

It was snowing here about an hour ago and we are to expect snow overnight. Fun fun.
My netflix came yesterday and so I think I am going to sit down tonight and watch the Colin Firth/BBC version of Pride and Prejudice. For some reason I cannot get enough of the novel or of 18th Century England. Of course, I still have a hard time wrapping my brain around all of the 'Shire's' and how exactly to say them - but my inner voice can say them fine - it is my outer voice that simply will not work. LOL

Hubby is sick and heading to bed. I am Lysol-ing everything down Haha! I am such a germaphobe!

And I might actually get to respond to a mass amount of email I have put off lately. Ugh. I suck.  ;D

Had a great time last night. Carlos' doc & his wife bought a farmhouse that was built in 1730.  :o :o :o Apparently, it was just about condemned when they bought it but they brought it back to it's splendor. They filled it with antiques and I was just in awe of EVERYTHING!!! I felt a bit embarrassed because when they came to our place a couple of weeks ago, we served dinner on Corelle and used paper napkins with our mixed-match forks & knives. They had set a very formal table complete with REAL silverware (as in sterling) along with 3 forks-one for each course. We were also served wine in Waterford Crystal. I made a comment and our host said we just entertain in different ways. He said they had all of this stuff and having people over for dinner gives them an excuse to take it out and show it off.

What was a shocker to me, was learning that our hostess is a direct descent of Thomas Jefferson.  :o :o :o We had really good food, good conversation, & good company.

Hubby's back is better now (it's not 100%, but at least he was up out of bed today and we went out to run errands.)
We picked a friend of ours and our friend's elderly mother up at a local church, they went to confession today.  I took them to the grocery store yesterday.  I like to try to help when I can, even if it is only driving.  The city cut the bus budget recently and it's just not very convenient for them to catch the bus (in the hills of Pittsburgh).  They said that they took the bus *to* the church but missed the correct bus stop, which wouldn't be *that* big of a deal, but when everything is on a steep incline, walking up it to get to the church isn't as appealing as it sounds.  ;D

It's been overcast and my mums are flowering as well as my gazanias and photiniums.  I plan on getting a solar powered birdbath.  Looked at other solar powered stuff at Amizon too.  I'm going to buy a cactus plant and see how well it does.  So I'm still looking and thinking.

Today was a day off for me so I decided to do a little yardwork and prepare my vegetable garden. After I added topsoil
and tilled the garden I tried to get rid of an old rotted tree stump in the backyard. The birds of the neighborhood are
real happy with me as the stump was riddled with wood boring worms. Every piece of wood pulp that came off the stump
had hundreds of these worms. When I went into the house for a drink of water I looked out of the window and there
had to be fifty birds in the yard feasting on the worms. I stopped my work and let the birds have their feast maybe I won't
have to deal with all the worms.

I've decided that the small portion where I have some part shade (except for summer) is going to be for little blue butterflies.  lupine for the host, penstemon and salvia to eat.  The rest of the garden is turning into a desert.  I thought I was going to get a birdbath, but I might do a little pond.  I'm thinking about getting seeds for joshua trees and and probably some other things.  I'll have to see what I can get at the store before buying a whole bunch of seeds.

Today at Lowe's, you get a free tree.  I don't know details.  I was gonna go, but I'm not really very green thumbed.  I can't even keep houseplants alive, let alone a tree.

Did 3 loads of laundry, cleaned off the stove (it had quite alot of grease built up over the years.)  And I'm taking a break before I scrub the kitchen floor by hand.  The cats drop their wet food off the plates and it gets gunked up on the floor.  Pretty nasty.  I'm tired of looking at it.  I definately don't want to end up on one of the Hoarders shows.  Scares me to death. 

My cat is in heat again.  Poor kitty.

Our kitchen floor is ugly tile (and two different types of ugly wallpaper and a high ceiling which even with a ladder I'd never be able to reach the lightbulbs in the ceiling light to change them.)  I'd really like to blow up the kitchen and just start all new.  But that's never gonna happen.

I hear ya about the shelves, I asked for shelves in the one cupboard (that inexplicably has peg holes but no shelves...  ??? ) I guess maybe the previous owners might have stowed their mops and brooms there?  I could really use them more for canned goods overflow.  We tend to stock up on those things when we don't actually need them, so there is no more room in the regular cabinet.  It may come down to where I just take a saw, grab a random piece of wood and do it myself.  Hubby doesn't like home repair or improvement tasks, he procrastinates until well... until he gets around to it, I guess.  lol  I still have no shower.  He got all the materials out to put it in (when I first came home from the hospital and surgeon strongly suggested I find a shower.) but then he wasn't feeling good and put it all away and never got back to it.
I do understand why it's so hard though, the indoor bathroom was an afterthought in this house (the house was built probably before indoor plumbing was in vogue - 1910ish) so they took a closet and part of the bedroom to create a bathroom.  The water access is directly over the stairs to the second floor, so I'm not even sure how we'd get into the crawlspace, unless we took out the whole faucet wall out.  You can't put a ladder on the stairs to get into the crawlspace without breaking our necks...  It's always something.  ::)

Yeah, we've been talking about doing that for awhile now, again, our really bad habit of procrastinating and money is always tight (going out for something like car repair or bills or something.)  I am determined though to do it in May (barring some other financial crisis). 

so for those of you (CAT) who missed my story - actually I'm not sure if Patty saw it either....  my mom panicked because she didn't hear from me on Wednesday.  I had interviews that morning that were supposed to go til 5 but I got out at 2 so I ran to LA to catch a TV show taping.
on my way to LA I tried to charge my cell but the charger stopped working so my phone was at 30% charge... I attempted to call home but didn't leave a message because my mom never listens to her messages. I didn't call her cell cuz I knew when she wasn't home that she and my father were at his follow up kidney appointment. . . 

anyway... the show went over and I didn't get out of the taping (that started at 6) until 1230. I got home at 215.  I found two police officers and my landlords on my driveway -  ::)  of course the officers...and my landlady  :-[  entered my apartment to nake sure I wasn't dead inside...

I have been on a weird schedule and haven't done laundry for 2 or 3 weeks... also I haven't done dishes in a while so the place was well... not quite hoarders but dirty enough to be embarrassing...  >:( 

hey patty if you measure the inside of those cabinets you can go to a home depot type place and buy pegs and wood and have them cut the shelving for you for a relatively inexpensive amount.

oh I knew how to feel  ;D  I was pretty pissed... one day should make her worry like that... especially since I regularly do these things where I can't be reached by phone... funny thing is- if she had called me so much my phone wouldn't have died and I could've called her at 1230 when I got out of the show.

the other part of that is the fact that I work in law enforcement so I had to deal with other agencies I work closely with being in my personal space and knowing that I have a mom who tends to jump to conclusions very quickly...  ::)  it was probably the most embarrass I've ever been...  :-[

That is when you don't know how to feel-yeah, it was nice that Mom is really worried about me but on the other hand, I'm an adult now, I can take care of myself and sometimes I am busy and just can't call.

Elizabeth and James have gone to Scout camp for the long weekend. So Dai and I have been painting the kitchen.  It's still green, just a different shade.

Then I get a phone call this morning from Elizabeth.  She fell and hurt her arm yesterday and wanted to see me.  So I said I'd be up later to see her.  Get another phone call around lunchtime - she's fallen on her arm again and is quite tearful.  Off up to the campsite (thankfully only a short drive), hear the story, look at the arm.  Decide to go to A and E just in case.  One x-ray later it turns out Elizabeth has a 'buckle' fracture off the arm.  So not totally broken bone, more sort of bent.  She has a splint to wear for 3 weeks and no sports for another 3 weeks after that.

I am also supposed to be making new curtains for the kitchen.  But the fabric was so expensive I'm nervous about making the first cut

I had a nice time today...went to Easter morning mass at church, and then my family went out to an Italian brunch buffet; this has become an Easter tradition over the last several years. They always have a nice selection of good food at this restaurant for special occasions.

Today at Lowe's, you get a free tree.  I don't know details.  I was gonna go, but I'm not really very green thumbed.  I can't even keep houseplants alive, let alone a tree.

My cat is in heat again.  Poor kitty.


I say I have a black thumb, I can turn an artificial plant brown!  ;D

Do you have any spay and neuter clinic near you?  Check into that, they offer the service for a fraction of the cost of a vets office.  I used one to spay a stray that adopted me.

Was going to g to church, but wasn't ready to go when it was time.  Looked up some plants I might want to buy for my garden.  Sun came out so I went outside and found my other gazania s bloomed.  Did some stuff and came back in at 3:00 to help cook. 

We had ham, black eyed pea's ( cooked with/in onion, green bell pepper, ham, tomato sauce, and spices), baked potaoes, and pasta noodles with mushrooms in it. 

After dinner I went back outside and thinned out some lupine sprouts.

I've sewn all my seeds, now to see what I get.  a couple varieties of Lupine, Red Hot Poker, and  Penstimon.  I also bought myself two dinky cacti plants at the store.  Their cute this small, but I ought to get brave and put one in the ground.  Maybe when I go back to the store, I'll find the same plants.  Then I can plug one of each in the ground and keep the others small..

What a scary night, last night.  Strong thunderstorms, hail the size of golf balls (larger some places) and tornadoes all around.  Luckily we we not hit by a tornado but we slept in the basement just to be safe.  Kids are out of school due to the damage all around us.  We are not used to this...storms, yes.  Tornadoes, no. 

So since we're home today we are going to a movie.

We have friends in Alabama who just lost 1/2 of their house and everything they own... Luckily everyone is alright. Their son was at home alone (he is a freshman), and he crawled in the bathtub, and the windows all blew out, so he crawled into the linen closet.  Every window blew out, garage and everything in it gone, and 1/2 of the roof gone.  I can't imagine what the parents where thinking as they were driving home, and finding what they found and having their son there.

we tend to be paranoid. people always bake cookies for the fire department (we house a fire station in our department) and I will always eat a cookie made by some random person delivered to the fire house but when some one comes in (it happens very rarely) and says I made cookies for the police we always say thank you and then they sit on a table untouched because no one is brave enough to try them! lol

also when we get food delivered we always say it's for the fire department just in case someone there was arrested.....  ;D

We went orienteering this morning.  The weather was blowy, but decent enough whilst running.  I made some mad route choices and was out for longer than I should have been.

On the way home we stopped to walk to a motte and bailey site.  Elizabeth has been doing about this castle style in history.

After a quick cup of tea I walked to town to buy some thread for sewing my curtains - Dai helped me finish measuring and cutting them yesterday.

today's call was a doozy!!! Apparently she had sex with President Obama but Michelle didn't care because neither of them (the caller or  Barrack) have herpes but everyone else in the capital has herpes so my police department should go to DC and force everyone to wear t-shirts that say they have herpes but she and Barrack won't have to wear t-shirts because they don't have herpes.  :D

So we are back from our annual trip to New York and had a wonderful time.  They set up Times Square to accomodate people who wanted to watch the Royal wedding, so, in the spirit of things, we hopped on the ferry to Ellis Island instead.  ;)
