Subject: Happy Boxing Day!

Written By: DoRitos on 12/26/10 at 6:44 am

Happy Boxing day to all who celebrate it.

Celebrants and orininality:

Boxing Day is a bank or public holiday that occurs on 26 December, or 27 December, and is observed in Australia, Austria, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and in some Commonwealth nations that have a mainly Christian population. In South Africa, the public holiday 26 December is called Day of Goodwill, in Ireland St Stephen's Day or Lá an Dreoilín, and in continental European countries the "Second Christmas Day."

BOXING DAY

One of the most "ear-et-able" of winter festivities - the festival goes back to the days of Julius Caesar when he made his famous quote "Lend me your ears".  This particular reveler took it literally.  Gladiator events were the fare of the day back then. These days, boxing matches are conducted for entertainment and some sportly betting have become the norm on this day.

The gloves?  Now Howard, now...

In America we have been known to be a very charitable and generous people.  My take on "Boxing Day" is people taking some of their Christmas presents whether they want them or not and box them up to give to charity and the less fortunate.  Someone correct me if I am wrong on this.  Please educate me.  We Yanks may be charitable except with our Christmas presents.  I have never done this but I've known many who have.  In the U.S. the stores are mobbed on the 26TH with people taking presents they don't want back to the retailers to either exchange them for something they want or when they can get a refund.  I salute all of you who support "Boxing Day".  The U.S. seems to be the only English speaking country who does not celebrate "Boxing Day".  Where is our well known charity on the 26TH?

Boxing Day means sales galore!  I was outside Best Buy at 5am, waiting in line to take advantage of their sales.  My sole purpose for going there:  Buy one Playstation Move game, get one free.
