Subject: Does the word "moist" gross you out?
Written By: AL-B Mk. III on 05/17/10 at 2:26 pm
I was watching this show on VH1 called Undateable, which was based on a book which lists 100 things that completely turn women off, and one of them was the word "moist."
Now, whenever I think of that word it reminds me of Duncan Hines cake commercials but yeah, it is kind of a gross word. The female panelists on the show seemed absolutely repulsed by it.
What say you?

It makes me think of cake too.
WTF? What's so repulsive about it? I can think of about 100 grosser words!
The more I think about it, the more I think it sounds kind of nice. :)

Put another one on the cake list. The word isn't gross to me.

It doesn't bother me at all. Don't understand why some are repulsed by this.

Depends what we are talking about here... The word moist, I am not so offended by. Especially if one is talking about cake, brownies, potting soil, and wash cloths. Now if someone is talking about their underwear, scabs, coughs or boogery noises then no - it is a little put offish ::)

Like.
Mrs. Midas and I chuckle at the word. It's not gross. It's funny! Not in the same way that 'poop' is funny, but...

lol I really gotta start a fan club for you. You share my sense of humor. (You poor man you.)
Put me down as another vote for not repulsed by the word. I feed my cat moist cat food all the time. She seems to like it most of the time. (So put her down for a vote as not offended as well.) :D

The word "moist" itself is quite musical.
Moist refers to several things, however, only a few things in the classification "moist" gross me out.
The word "meatus" is gross.
It refers in general anatomy is a natural body opening or canal. It is pronounced Mee-Attis), but no matter what it means or how you say it or what you're referring to, the word "meatus" is always going to sound gross.
A lot of people think words like "tork" and "matriculate" must refer to something gross when they do not.
So, linguistically speaking, what is gross?

"Meatus" would be a great name for a death metal band.

back in the 90s, there was a popular alt-rock band from canada called moist. they were massive which was a surprise given their name.

The word doesn't bother me but it irritated my ex (that and the word 'gusset' for some reason). I can understand why the word would make a person cringe (sexually orientated perhaps?) but I don't use it that much to worry about it, lol.

Yes, I have heard of them though not sure they made much of an impact here in the UK. I do remember thinking I hope the band are happy with that name.
