Subject: UK player stakes claim for £26.1m
Written By: Philip Eno on 01/17/10 at 2:56 am
A UK ticketholder has come forward to claim Britain's fifth biggest Euromillions prize of £26.1m.
If verified, the winner could collect £26,151,124.20 when the banks open on Monday. The Euromillions jackpot is shared with a ticketholder in France.
A National Lottery spokesman said the win "continues the nation's great run of luck with big Euromillions winners across the past few years".
A south Wales couple and a syndicate in Liverpool each won £45.5m last year.
The winning numbers in Friday's Euromillions were 11, 26, 29, 49 and 50, plus Lucky Star numbers 4 and 7.
"We are looking forward to welcoming this ticket holder to our millionaires' club which is already 2,350 strong," said the National Lottery spokesman.
He added: "Euromillions players in the UK have contributed to the massive £24bn raised for good causes across the last 15 years."
The £45.5m prizes won by Les and Sam Scadding and the Liverpool syndicate in November last year are the UK's largest Euromillions pay-outs.
A prize of £35.4m was won by Angela Kelly, of Glasgow, in August 2007, with an anonymous ticket holder collecting £26.5m the same month.
