Poor Poor Dag...  I do not envy you, I am dreading those years with my 2 girls as well.  My husband is looking forward to it!  So far there will be nanny cam's in the house (to watch for any unnecessary or flagrant fouls by boyfriends), car/truck will be wired with gps and camera (to track girl at all times, I guess she will always be driving)...

Went outside at midnight last night to watch some fireworks and there was a huge full moon, it was so beautiful.

Someone was letting those huge paper lanterns with a tealight in them go, and they looked amazing floating through the sky.

Just got in the house an hour or so ago from spending time at a friend's house where Him And I played video games,watched the ball drop,watched The Ringer with Johnny Knoxville which was such a stupid,stupid film and ate Chinese Food,slept at his house for the night then came home,that's about it.

Hopefully this year will be a whole lot better!

I rung in the new year at work. I had to go in at 1145 to reset the new case numbers for the coming year at midnight then I drove home at 1215 only to have to come back here at 7am for work today.

Debating going home at noon when my co-worker gets here... there is not enough for two people to do. and although I have plenty of busy work I feel that you, know.... sitting here on a holiday is a waste of my time.  Wink  I mean a waste of the company's time... I get paid time and half but is being some place I suddenly hate working worth a little extra cash  Undecided

HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYONE!!!


Had a great time at the party last night. Knew I would. That is the best party of the year-always is. Yeah, I ate and ate and ate. Didn't do too much drinking even though they had quite a large stocked bar-just not too much of what I like.  :\'(  Oh well. They cleared one room that used to be like a sitting room that was now a dancing room. Many of the people there were part of a tango group-they meet every Friday to learn tango. We know a few of them-including our hosts, a former colleague of Carlos (and a former professor of mine), and my massage therapist. Carlos & I didn't participate in the tango but we managed to get them to put on a waltz that we did. Then we did a lot of free style. At one point, Carlos was in the other room and they put on what sounded like the Stray Cats doing like swing. I just got up and started dancing by myself and some guy came over and danced with me. This was how I worked off all that I ate.  ;D ;D ;D The guy we knew from the college asked us if we would be interested in joining their tango group. We are. He is going send us the info. Should be fun.

Midnight came, we toasted & kissed. Carlos was waiting for everyone to go outside for cigars (like they normally do). Unfortunately for him, they didn't. He even brought his own cigar for the occasion. When he went outside to smoke it, he found out that it was starting to snow. He came back in looking for a light when I said to him, if it was starting to snow, we should start heading out and he could smoke his cigar at home. He like that idea. So, we said good-bye to all and started home. The roads were a bit slick & Carlos was going fairly slow. There wasn't too many people out which I was surprised. It was only about 12:30-1:00 on New Years. (Rutland didn't have their First Night so I guess people went elsewhere to celebrate.) We made it home. When Carlos stopped the car, I kissed him and said, "You did good."  ;) :D ;D ;D 

He smoked his cigar and we watched CNN which they were showing the Times Square thing again. We finally went to sleep around 3 or so (and got up around noon).

Every year people talk about watching the ball drop in Times Square.  So we watched it on TV last night.  What a disappointment!  It didn't so much "drop" as slowly descend.  A lot less dramatic a spectacle than everyone made it sound

It's a lovely sunny day here, but very cold. I'm doing house stuff today, laundry and tidying, start taking the decorations down. Sort through all the paperwork I brought home from work and then never got a chance to do anything with.  ::)

Went to see Mum and Dad yesterday. My brother got my Mum out in the car, she hasn't driven for 6 or 7 years now. He said she did good but needs more practise especially on parking.

I stayed with my Dad and set up their new phone for them. He's doing ok. He's got a whole heap of meds to take all throughout the day and has 3 hospital appointments next week. So by wednesday evening we should know for sure how things are and what his treatment and recovery will be. He said his eyesight was a bit better already though he is quite dizzy and thick headed from the blood pressure meds. That has already come down from 217 to 140 so they are doing the job thank goodness!

I had to deliver some mail to a couple of people today. It's something I do on a weekly basis, and I usually use the car.
Well, not this morning. I didn't feel much like excavating the car, so I decided to go by foot.

BIG mistake. It took me an hour to deliver the stuff, something that takes me about 15 minutes by car. Never realized walking in snow could be so tiring.

Well, I guess the good thing is I had a proper excercise this morning...  ;D

I'm going to be doing a lot of training. My mate and I are going to do the half-marathon (about 13 miles run?) so we need to get ourselves on treadmills pretty sharpish, lol.

Please berWent and saw my brother and sister in law while they were home, at my mothers house yesterday.  Had a great time.

All the way home, hubby quiet, thought he was just tired.  Got home, and he showed me a letter that and "anonymous" neighbor left on our vehicles (mine and my brothers), regarding my mother.  Notifying us of dementia (she thinks people are robbing from her), and yelling at her dog.  He mentioned alzyheimer's and that we need to come together as a family.  Unfortunately/Fortunately none of this is new, it has been this way for 30+ years.  Perhaps it is more outward now, as she has no one in the house to talk to...  People think we do not know this, or care I guess, but we lived with it (she looses things, and then blames someone for taking them)  Too many bad things have happened (teens car accident with severe brain trauma/personality change, catching cheating husband/love of her life sleeping with another woman, my father just leaving, my brother dying, her parents dying at an early age, and now being completely alone - blaming me because I was the youngest, and I left her, to get married -she keeps stating how I should never have done it, because I will just get hurt, and having the house broke into once) I honestly believe she has been in a state of severe depression/anxiety/mental breakdown for years....  and this is how it manifests itself.  I can not change it, and I have tried to get her to move closer to us- she refuses to leave her "house" (I guess through it all, it is the only thing that has not changed).  I have been so sad, and I have been on depression medication for this before...  I am afraid I might have to revisit it again (I hate the feeling of being on it, yes there is no lows, but there are no highs either)...  I am soo scared.  I love my mom, but I cannot help her, if she is unwilling to get help.  I tried so hard, to get the doctor to listen to me 5 years ago when she fell down the stairs and cracked the C1 vertebrae in her neck (this will be the only time she will be in a doctors care, can I get her visited by a counselor, they released her and she got into a car wreck going to therapy - which she now says because someone was chasing her...

I do not know what to do.  My husband is wonderful.  My brother (he is in AZ, he also knows this stuff, but farther away, so he does not usually have to deal with it) is going to question her today, and stopping and talking to us again tomorrow.  I am in such a state, I can not stop crying.  I just want my mom to be normal, but that is not possible.  I want my girls life to be normal, and if I break that is not possible.  and I am so scared - I do not want to turn into her (you know you always have that fear of being your mother.... that fear is 10 fold in my case).

All the way home, hubby quiet, thought he was just tired.  Got home, and he showed me a letter that and "anonymous" neighbor left on our vehicles (mine and my brothers), regarding my mother.  Notifying us of dementia (she thinks people are robbing from her), and yelling at her dog.  He mentioned alzyheimer's and that we need to come together as a family.  Unfortunately/Fortunately none of this is new, it has been this way for 30+ years.  Perhaps it is more outward now, as she has no one in the house to talk to...  People think we do not know this, or care I guess, but we lived with it (she looses things, and then blames someone for taking them)  Too many bad things have happened (teens car accident with severe brain trauma/personality change, catching cheating husband/love of her life sleeping with another woman, my father just leaving, my brother dying, her parents dying at an early age, and now being completely alone - blaming me because I was the youngest, and I left her, to get married -she keeps stating how I should never have done it, because I will just get hurt, and having the house broke into once) I honestly believe she has been in a state of severe depression/anxiety/mental breakdown for years....  and this is how it manifests itself.  I can not change it, and I have tried to get her to move closer to us- she refuses to leave her "house" (I guess through it all, it is the only thing that has not changed).  I have been so sad, and I have been on depression medication for this before...  I am afraid I might have to revisit it again (I hate the feeling of being on it, yes there is no lows, but there are no highs either)...  I am soo scared.  I love my mom, but I cannot help her, if she is unwilling to get help.  I tried so hard, to get the doctor to listen to me 5 years ago when she fell down the stairs and cracked the C1 vertebrae in her neck (this will be the only time she will be in a doctors care, can I get her visited by a counselor, they released her and she got into a car wreck going to therapy - which she now says because someone was chasing her...

I do not know what to do.  My husband is wonderful.  My brother (he is in AZ, he also knows this stuff, but farther away, so he does not usually have to deal with it) is going to question her today, and stopping and talking to us again tomorrow.  I am in such a state, I can not stop crying.  I just want my mom to be normal, but that is not possible.  I want my girls life to be normal, and if I break that is not possible.  and I am so scared - I do not want to turn into her (you know you always have that fear of being your mother.... that fear is 10 fold in my case).

It is hard, very, very hard, to admit that you can not control certain things in your life.  This is one of them.  You have to get your mother into care soon.  You will be surprised at the relief you will feel when you know she is being cared for.  You won't feel that way going through the motions, and you will feel guilt.  Many nursing homes have support groups for caregivers, take advantage of it and don't beat yourself up. You owe your husband, your kids, and yourself some peace of mind.

Man,It's mad cold out here in New York,temperatures is 18 feels like 5 degrees then you have a gusty wind and a wind chill so try to bundle up as much as you can.

Went outside at midnight last night to watch some fireworks and there was a huge full moon, it was so beautiful.

Someone was letting those huge paper lanterns with a tealight in them go, and they looked amazing floating through the sky.

I have to add, I have been there.  Find a good place to put her, somewhere close to a family member who can make regular visits.  It sounds that no matter what you do your mother will blame you or put the guilt on your shoulders.  Since she will anyway, it is better she is somewhere where at least you can sleep at night knowing she is being cared for.

I have been reading the posts and I am so proud to know the kind, interesting and humane people here. 

I'm going to be doing a lot of training. My mate and I are going to do the half-marathon (about 13 miles run?) so we need to get ourselves on treadmills pretty sharpish, lol.

Today it snowed all day.  We ventured out for dinner (no real dinner food in the place).  Completely failed to get the car back up the driveway, so I had to help my mother-in-law all the way.  A great way to test my new boots!

hey sami, whatever you do, don't allow yourself or anyone else including your mom into guilt trippin' you. you work very hard for your kids and your family and your life and that's kinda a priority. Help your mom as much as you can and hopefully your bro will too. take care of yourself in between. if possible, it sounds like your mom would do well in some sort of care facility if that is a possibility. sounds like a heavy burden which you shouldn't have to shoulder alone. I hope things improve and I'll help with a prayer.


It's a lovely sunny day here, but very cold. I'm doing house stuff today, laundry and tidying, start taking the decorations down. Sort through all the paperwork I brought home from work and then never got a chance to do anything with.  ::)

Went to see Mum and Dad yesterday. My brother got my Mum out in the car, she hasn't driven for 6 or 7 years now. He said she did good but needs more practise especially on parking.

I stayed with my Dad and set up their new phone for them. He's doing ok. He's got a whole heap of meds to take all throughout the day and has 3 hospital appointments next week. So by wednesday evening we should know for sure how things are and what his treatment and recovery will be. He said his eyesight was a bit better already though he is quite dizzy and thick headed from the blood pressure meds. That has already come down from 217 to 140 so they are doing the job thank goodness!
good news about your dad's health and recovery Gis.  you're a good daughter to keep an eye on him  :)

Thanks all - no easy fixes....  She is not incapacitated. I truly know she is not suffering from alzeihmer's (sp. I know).  She recognizes people, she know's where she is, she is capable of taking care of her huge house, the huge lawn, and everything in between (albeit, it would be a lot easier if she did not have all of these things).  There is no way to even think about getting a court order, until we find her without heat and electricity, and other such failings... she is just demented.  AND this has been the case all of my life (yes worse now, no one at home, and so no one else to blame for lost/misplaced items). She goes to absolutely no doctor, and this is a concern as well.
  We are still working at her to move closer - or to do something, but I do not hold my breath.  We have been doing this for YEARS.
Someday I pray that she will give.  Till then, Thank You all!  I just wish others (the sooo concerned neighbor - who did not give us name or contact information) would know that we do care as well.  But the woman is functional, just somewhat off (and this is how she is....).  She's my mom, I love her, I miss her, and I want what is best for her as well.  But I can not just snap my fingers and make her change all that she has known for 50 years :P (yes that is how long she has lived in this house)

I've been having a little trouble getting online, so I''ve been reading  books like I said I was going to do anyway.  I was given a bunch of Time Life Books to read.  Okay, before hitting the books on the missing link with the monkey man, Lets see if we can get through the Primate book and see what they have to say.  I'm having a little trouble understanding why they think monkey art may reveal orgins of human art.  At least they say might.  Any of you remember educational Disney cartoons with Jeminy Cricket?

Sami - I can sympathize and you have my thoughts.  It's hard on the heart and frustrating and confusing because there isn't really a solution aside from your mother accepting help by moving closer.  I am also going through the same thing on a much smaller level (and I do live quite a bit closer).  In an effort to preserve my own sanity and the sanctity of my family, I try to help as much as I can without falling into the manipulations and guilt trips.  It's also hard because you can empathize with the neighbors and what they deal with often, but really there isn't an easy solution other then our mothers acting normal (which isn't gonna happen anytime soon.)  Feel free to vent anytime you need, we are here to listen and help support you in any way you need. 

As for me: biopsy results back in for mom, it's inconclusive so they are recommending surgery to remove the part of the thyroid that has the ... uh... whatever it's called... the growth or nodule or whatever.  Mom will see her heart doctor tomorrow so that he can approve Mom's talking to the thyroid surgeon who then can set up surgery.

LOL - then it is the slowest progressing Alzheimers ever (my brother is 50 and yes she has been this way most all that I can remember)...  I have been struggling with this same thing since I left her house (I was going to fail at college, I was not going to find a job, my husband was going to cheat on me..... it goes on and on).  The neighbor knows nothing :P

I agree. We watched a bit of that. I do really like Anderson Cooper but Kathy Griffin was just  8-P . After I don't know how long we were watching it, I turned to Carlos and said, "Why are we watching this? It is just so stupid." So, we turned it off and went to bed-that was about 3 a.m.

Insanity in itself as she has been terribly ill and was very frail but she obviously wanted her path clear.

Sadly she lives up in Durham, many hours drive away from her family. I think we will be going up at some point next week for the funeral and to help clear the house.  :\'(

My mom wanted to talk with me.  She doesn't want to keep taking care of me and I need to do something about it.  " Like leave? " That's one way, but we need to deal with this logically and...  something about me not thinking clearly something about her trying to help me but I have to let her ( my mom was doing some paperwork and said something about me that I didn't think was true.  I e-mailed them and it let to closure.)  I remember her saying, they aren't going to help anyway.  Unless things have really changed, this is still the ongoing game of disfunction and she's not really helping me. There's a slight possibility that she is trying to help me, but doesn't know how.  I doubt it

Perhaps it is best if you do start going through some sort of actions to find some sort of independent living situation for yourself.  It will not be easy. But it will give you a much needed sense of accomplishment to do this on your own, and you can be sure that things are getting done if you are doing them  Take control, that is the only way to for you to gain confidence and to get out from your mother's control.  There should be local assistance for you, try the hearing clinic you now go to, they should steer you in the right direction.  Or social security/disability office!

separation defiantly will.  In the type of disfunction that I'm experiencing, A child (mom) is raised by her mother( grandma) badly and the child (mom) grows up, has a kid ( me), and does exactly what their mother( grandma) did to them (mom) so the child ( me) is helpless and relys on her mom.  It's supposed to  take the pain away from the mom who got mistreated by her mother.  I She knows her mom raised her bad, she knows I got raised bad by her.  f my mom truly wanted to help me, she could help me make arrangements to get and apartment, not tell me there's something wrong with me.

Holidays were stressful, but NYE was spent w/ Micah and her boyfriend.  They changed some of their plans and I took them out to dinner at Bennigan's then we went to the only safe bar in town and danced.  Well, we stood around.  The music sucked so we didn't dance as much as we wanted.  Everyone but us was drunk, so the room actually rang in the new year at about 12:02.  :P  Just waiting for the 14th to celebrate New Year's, etc. with my new guy.

My sister works in the library here, and it was a place we counted on to be open in a storm, I don't know why, but it was always so.  They arrange a skeleton crew among people who live close enough to walk.  We had a storm last week and they shut it at 4 instead of 9, but all kinds of people trudged through the weather to get there only to find the doors closed.

They think the suture just loosened....  So the glued it (along with the stitches) - I just hope everything got tied off correctly and that I am only being extremely paranoid.  She is up and walking around.  She is not drinking a bunch of water, so she is not losing fluids.  I am just going to continue to watch her - like a hawk

Miley is up and at them today...  She still has the wrap on (I will leave it - so she doesn't bother it, licking and such).  I wish school had canceled today, just so I could watch her some more.. But school seems set on having us go in... :-\\ (all other school around have cancelled.)

I believe Miley is alright.  I feel sorta foolish.  I came home tonight, doors (Porch to the outside, and upstairs door) were all open (I know the contractor was here for the upstairs - truck was outside), Miley was in her kennel whining, girls wanted to go outside (it is -6F out), and I just wanted to get supper on.  I told the girls they couldn't go outside, too cold (asked dad to go do rabbit chores for them), left Miley out of kennel (the compression bandage I put on last night allll bloody - NOT like that this morning).  SO I yelled upstairs to Jason (talking to contractor) - thinking that he had not taken care of her at all today.  "Did you even check Miley today." Kids all upset, at this point (Jason says he knows, and that he will talk to me).  I call the vet and Jason get's done - and I start chewing on him.  I guess when she went outside this morning, she came inside and was bloody.  Jason checked her out - all stitches still good, and he retied the bandage (I am not sure why he did not change bandage).  But then he worked upstairs, and he took Miley's blanket up with him, and carried her up - checked on her all day (and she never bled again).  He had just put her in the Kennel, when contractor called.  I made him take her back to the vet, I had already called vet and said we were on the way in (Chewing on him too).  They rechecked, everything iss good, all stitches tight and her belly has no bulge, we just need to walk on leash (instead of letting her out to go to the bathroom).  Have I mentioned - it is fricken freeeeeezing.  Jason actually did care, he just did not do things like I would (take her to vet immediately, and change bloody dressing- heck if he would have done that, I wouldn't have even known)...  Feeling sorta bad.

Miserable day at schools, kids squirrely and only had 35 minute classes (late start - due to weather) and by the time I got the kids settled down - class was over; top it off I have a terrible headache. 

That's my day.

Looks like we are going up to Durham on either tuesday or wednesday, the funeral is probably going to be on friday. My Dad offered to loan us the money for the train tickets he is *such* a star, told him we will stick it on the credit card and worry about it later!  ::)

I am entering panic mode. I FINALLY got my husband to go to the store and pick up TONS of cat food & cat litter. Hopefully, that will be enough. He also went to the Post Office to mail off a couple of boxes down there. But he never did make it to the dump so garbage will sitting on the back porch for about 2 months (not to mention all the garbage that has been sitting there for who knows how long.::) )

I think I have the new laptop all set up with everything we need. I think I also need to plug in a few phone #s into the cell. I also have to figure out how to do call-forwarding on our phone to the cell.

One of the people who are going to be catsitting, we supposed to come over sometime this week and hasn't as of yet. We need to give him the key, and even though he has done this before, but not on a long term basis and he wants to know where all the cats' hiding places are. Only a few days left for him to come over. I called him last night but he wasn't home. I left a message saying that I am in panic mode.

Tomorrow, I will do the last load of laundry & dishes (well, I may do another load Monday morning) and then pack for 6 weeks.  I also have to wash my hair.

We will be leaving here on Monday early. We have to stop to pick up my new-old watch. (It was an old-1952, watch that we got at an auction that I had fixed so I can use it. We dropped it off back in Oct. and it is FINALLY fixed.) Then we have to stop at UPS to ship off the kids Christmas presents to California. (They opened them on Christmas but rather than trying to get them all on the plane, we are shipping the gifts for them.) Then we are going to visit Carlos' youngest. She has a few things for us to take to PR. We were supposed to go yesterday but we stayed home because of the snow. I just hope we will be able to fit it all in our suitcase. Then we are going Carlos' son's & 2nd daughter's house to spend the night. We fly out on Tuesday morning-EARLY.

Not sure what I am going to do today, feeling a bit blah and unmotivated to be honest.

DanDan has been having a hard time sleeping through the night, he'll be 11 months on the 12th and he's been getting up ever 2- 3 hours. We he was here the last time he slept good. Found out what the problem is Dan has been letting him sleep in bed with him, this is something that Tim and I never did with our kids and don't think it is a good idea. Tim worked with a guy whose daughter slept in her parents bed and at the age of 6 they finally had enough.

Haven't even started that yet.  :o :o :o  Everything is pretty much set so packing won't take too long-except for deciding which shirts I want to bring.

My friend is being ordained today so I am in church for her ceremony.

It was really weird.  I think it might be an infection in my salivary gland.  Whilst eating lunch it felt odd in my cheek/jaw area and it swelled noticably.  But within an hour or so the swelling had gone right down (though not totally gone).  No problem really whilst eating dinner either.  The area still feels a bit weird and is still slightly swollen.  If its still a bother tomorrow I'll call the doctors office.

I was prescribed Lipitor prior to my wedding but had bad headaches in the morning after taking it the night before so I decided to stop until after the wedding and need to get try it again.  I have a low dosage, apparently (it's at home and I don't remember the dosage).  Are you experiencing any side effects, Mike?  ???
it's day 5 for me taking Lipitor and still no side effects so I'm happy about that. dosage is 10mg. trying to change my diet a bit as well and 2nd night of working out..when I say change my diet, I'm not cutting anything out, I'm reducing intake. eg: instead of eating the entire bag of Lays or Fritos or Cheetos, I'll eat half, eventually I'll eat 1/4. as for cutting them out, I don't want to yet cuz I luv em  ::)

This is terrible, you really can't "get on with it" until after a proper funeral so you are left in a state of limbo.  I feel for you, it must be very difficult.

HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYONE!!!


Had a great time at the party last night. Knew I would. That is the best party of the year-always is. Yeah, I ate and ate and ate. Didn't do too much drinking even though they had quite a large stocked bar-just not too much of what I like.  :\'(  Oh well. They cleared one room that used to be like a sitting room that was now a dancing room. Many of the people there were part of a tango group-they meet every Friday to learn tango. We know a few of them-including our hosts, a former colleague of Carlos (and a former professor of mine), and my massage therapist. Carlos & I didn't participate in the tango but we managed to get them to put on a waltz that we did. Then we did a lot of free style. At one point, Carlos was in the other room and they put on what sounded like the Stray Cats doing like swing. I just got up and started dancing by myself and some guy came over and danced with me. This was how I worked off all that I ate.  ;D ;D ;D The guy we knew from the college asked us if we would be interested in joining their tango group. We are. He is going send us the info. Should be fun.

Midnight came, we toasted & kissed. Carlos was waiting for everyone to go outside for cigars (like they normally do). Unfortunately for him, they didn't. He even brought his own cigar for the occasion. When he went outside to smoke it, he found out that it was starting to snow. He came back in looking for a light when I said to him, if it was starting to snow, we should start heading out and he could smoke his cigar at home. He like that idea. So, we said good-bye to all and started home. The roads were a bit slick & Carlos was going fairly slow. There wasn't too many people out which I was surprised. It was only about 12:30-1:00 on New Years. (Rutland didn't have their First Night so I guess people went elsewhere to celebrate.) We made it home. When Carlos stopped the car, I kissed him and said, "You did good."  ;) :D ;D ;D 

He smoked his cigar and we watched CNN which they were showing the Times Square thing again. We finally went to sleep around 3 or so (and got up around noon).

It's a lovely sunny day here, but very cold. I'm doing house stuff today, laundry and tidying, start taking the decorations down. Sort through all the paperwork I brought home from work and then never got a chance to do anything with.  ::)

Went to see Mum and Dad yesterday. My brother got my Mum out in the car, she hasn't driven for 6 or 7 years now. He said she did good but needs more practise especially on parking.

I stayed with my Dad and set up their new phone for them. He's doing ok. He's got a whole heap of meds to take all throughout the day and has 3 hospital appointments next week. So by wednesday evening we should know for sure how things are and what his treatment and recovery will be. He said his eyesight was a bit better already though he is quite dizzy and thick headed from the blood pressure meds. That has already come down from 217 to 140 so they are doing the job thank goodness!


Good to hear that the meds are doing what they are supposed to Gis! Of course, I have also already given you my reply through facebook. ;)

I'm going to be doing a lot of training. My mate and I are going to do the half-marathon (about 13 miles run?) so we need to get ourselves on treadmills pretty sharpish, lol.

I had to deliver some mail to a couple of people today. It's something I do on a weekly basis, and I usually use the car.
Well, not this morning. I didn't feel much like excavating the car, so I decided to go by foot.

BIG mistake. It took me an hour to deliver the stuff, something that takes me about 15 minutes by car. Never realized walking in snow could be so tiring.

Well, I guess the good thing is I had a proper excercise this morning...  ;D

Please berWent and saw my brother and sister in law while they were home, at my mothers house yesterday.  Had a great time.

All the way home, hubby quiet, thought he was just tired.  Got home, and he showed me a letter that and "anonymous" neighbor left on our vehicles (mine and my brothers), regarding my mother.  Notifying us of dementia (she thinks people are robbing from her), and yelling at her dog.  He mentioned alzyheimer's and that we need to come together as a family.  Unfortunately/Fortunately none of this is new, it has been this way for 30+ years.  Perhaps it is more outward now, as she has no one in the house to talk to...  People think we do not know this, or care I guess, but we lived with it (she looses things, and then blames someone for taking them)  Too many bad things have happened (teens car accident with severe brain trauma/personality change, catching cheating husband/love of her life sleeping with another woman, my father just leaving, my brother dying, her parents dying at an early age, and now being completely alone - blaming me because I was the youngest, and I left her, to get married -she keeps stating how I should never have done it, because I will just get hurt, and having the house broke into once) I honestly believe she has been in a state of severe depression/anxiety/mental breakdown for years....  and this is how it manifests itself.  I can not change it, and I have tried to get her to move closer to us- she refuses to leave her "house" (I guess through it all, it is the only thing that has not changed).  I have been so sad, and I have been on depression medication for this before...  I am afraid I might have to revisit it again (I hate the feeling of being on it, yes there is no lows, but there are no highs either)...  I am soo scared.  I love my mom, but I cannot help her, if she is unwilling to get help.  I tried so hard, to get the doctor to listen to me 5 years ago when she fell down the stairs and cracked the C1 vertebrae in her neck (this will be the only time she will be in a doctors care, can I get her visited by a counselor, they released her and she got into a car wreck going to therapy - which she now says because someone was chasing her...

I do not know what to do.  My husband is wonderful.  My brother (he is in AZ, he also knows this stuff, but farther away, so he does not usually have to deal with it) is going to question her today, and stopping and talking to us again tomorrow.  I am in such a state, I can not stop crying.  I just want my mom to be normal, but that is not possible.  I want my girls life to be normal, and if I break that is not possible.   and I am so scared - I do not want to turn into her (you know you always have that fear of being your mother.... that fear is 10 fold in my case).

Man,It's mad cold out here in New York,temperatures is 18 feels like 5 degrees then you have a gusty wind and a wind chill so try to bundle up as much as you can.

The highest it has been this past 2 weeks is 14F - and that is totday! But tomorrow is supposed to go back up to 29F! w00t!

Today it snowed all day.  We ventured out for dinner (no real dinner food in the place).  Completely failed to get the car back up the driveway, so I had to help my mother-in-law all the way.  A great way to test my new boots!


Gah Karen! I know that driveway!! Hopefully the ice and snow are mostly gone now? At least off the asphalt... ;)

As for me: biopsy results back in for mom, it's inconclusive so they are recommending surgery to remove the part of the thyroid that has the ... uh... whatever it's called... the growth or nodule or whatever.  Mom will see her heart doctor tomorrow so that he can approve Mom's talking to the thyroid surgeon who then can set up surgery. 


Patty - I am keeping your mother in my prayers. The scariest part is the not knowing, I can promise you that.

Oh boy, more sad news. Himself's Grandma died today she was found outside, they think she was trying to shovel the snow.  :-\\
Insanity in itself as she has been terribly ill and was very frail but she obviously wanted her path clear.

Sadly she lives up in Durham, many hours drive away from her family. I think we will be going up at some point next week for the funeral and to help clear the house.  :\'(

Holidays were stressful, but NYE was spent w/ Micah and her boyfriend.  They changed some of their plans and I took them out to dinner at Bennigan's then we went to the only safe bar in town and danced.  Well, we stood around.  The music sucked so we didn't dance as much as we wanted.  Everyone but us was drunk, so the room actually rang in the new year at about 12:02.  :P  Just waiting for the 14th to celebrate New Year's, etc. with my new guy.


You rotten suck! Bennigans!! I am soooooo coming to visit you just so I can go there! I miss it so much!
Anyway, that was awesome of M and her sig to hang out with you! I love stuff like that!

Someone, ANYONE - please pray for my dog (Miley)... I just got her back an hour ago from being spayed.  She has not been bouncy or flouncy, I did not want her to be.  I just was petting her and I noticed blood was dripping from her incision...  I HATE the vet we have (but he is the only one around we have) - and I used to work for him.  Hubby is now taking her in as an emergency.  I am worried - girls don't know yet... :\'(


Hopefully, when I continue to read through this thread, I will come across good news... as of right now though, I will say a little prayer for Miley! ;)

Tomorrow Elizabeth is doing an entrance exam for a school back in the UK.  It will take her most of the day to do the various different bits.

I am just amazed at my wonderful sister-in-law. We called her to wish her a happy birthday and she told us that my bathtub is going in today.  :o :o :o  We figured things wouldn't be started until we got there next week. It was really weird.  I think it might be an infection in my salivary gland.  Whilst eating lunch it felt odd in my cheek/jaw area and it swelled noticably.  But within an hour or so the swelling had gone right down (though not totally gone).  No problem really whilst eating dinner either.  The area still feels a bit weird and is still slightly swollen.  If its still a bother tomorrow I'll call the doctors office.




Quite a few years back, my sister had a salivary gland stone. Anytime she would eat something, she would salivate and thus push the little stone forward, which would black the gland and cause her face to swell. There wasn't a treatment for it though. The doctor told her it would eventually work it's way out. It did of course, but if I remember correctly, it took the better part of 2 weeks. ???

Now that I am done post whoring and getting caught up, I should fill you all in on where I have been and what I have been up to.

Big Nasty made it home on his R&R leave from Iraq on Christmas Eve! Picked him up from the airport around 6pm and what a sight for sore eyes!

Christmas morning dawned and I made the boys wait until I had a shower and stuff before we opened any gifts. I tried to make them eat breakfast first, but they weren't having any part of that!  ;D

Now, I love my husband to death, and I can tell now what he thinks of me! From Iraq, he got online and ordered some gifts for me. I received the first and second seasons of The Nanny on DVD and he bought me a jacket. Not just any jacket! See, like a lot of my friends, my husband thinks that I am a die-hard Twilight fan! He bought me a black jacket that is the exact replica of the one Kristen Stewart wore in the first movie. Yes, hers was blue, but hubby knows that I find black slimming, so that's what I got! I love him so much! Of course, I spoiled him since this is the first Christmas he has been home during a deployment. I gave him his "Got Rings" t-shirt, which of course he already knew he was getting. I also had a handmade Redskins blanket for him, his DJ Hero for the xBox and the final season of Prison Break.

Dinner rolled around and we had a family come over. Her husband is still in Iraq, he doesn't have his leave until February. So her daughter, her in-laws and she came over for dinner. We do that every year no matter what. If there is a Soldier stuck here who didn't get to go home, we always make sure to go get them so that they can have a real meal instead of eating in one of the Post Dining Facilities. We completely enjoyed ourselves.

New Years Eve was spent with The Son and Big Nasty. We played Rock Band, Band Hero and DJ Hero all night. The Son can sing his butt off! It wasn't until 12:15 that we realized we had missed any possible celebrations on tv - so we just kept playing. We were up until 4am on those crazy games!

The first week of the New Year brought a lot of snow our way, and of course Nasty and I were loving being cooped up in the house. I won't go into details! However, by the middle of the week we were a little stir crazy. Nasty was talking about people getting new LCD tv's and how he was going to get one when he comes home this summer. I decided I wasn't going to make him wait that long! We went on a hunting rampage! Sam's Club, Target, Kmart, Walmart, Sears, The PX, Best Buy... if they sold tv's - we went there! Of course I couldn't find anything that had the specs we wanted! We came back home empty handed! I got online and actually found a bundle at the Best Buy outlet online. 42' LCD 1080p with Blue Ray player 1080p. Made by LG and the price was right around what we were looking at. Bought it online and did store pick up! Nasty loves it!

Spent our last couple of days together in the house. At one point we were going to go down to the outlet malls to find him some PT shoes, and were hoping to meet up with ninny for lunch, but the weather wasn't very cooperative! ;) Perhaps in the summer we will be able to do it!

Nasty left Saturday morning to go back to Iraq. He has made it there safe and sound.
I am so thankful that we were able to share this holiday together.
Of course, there is so much more that we did, but I don't think y'all wanted every single detail.

Now that I am done post whoring and getting caught up, I should fill you all in on where I have been and what I have been up to.

Big Nasty made it home on his R&R leave from Iraq on Christmas Eve! Picked him up from the airport around 6pm and what a sight for sore eyes!

I am so thankful that we were able to share this holiday together.

Now that I am done post whoring and getting caught up, I should fill you all in on where I have been and what I have been up to.

Big Nasty made it home on his R&R leave from Iraq on Christmas Eve! Picked him up from the airport around 6pm and what a sight for sore eyes!

Christmas morning dawned and I made the boys wait until I had a shower and stuff before we opened any gifts. I tried to make them eat breakfast first, but they weren't having any part of that!  ;D

Now, I love my husband to death, and I can tell now what he thinks of me! From Iraq, he got online and ordered some gifts for me. I received the first and second seasons of The Nanny on DVD and he bought me a jacket. Not just any jacket! See, like a lot of my friends, my husband thinks that I am a die-hard Twilight fan! He bought me a black jacket that is the exact replica of the one Kristen Stewart wore in the first movie. Yes, hers was blue, but hubby knows that I find black slimming, so that's what I got! I love him so much! Of course, I spoiled him since this is the first Christmas he has been home during a deployment. I gave him his "Got Rings" t-shirt, which of course he already knew he was getting. I also had a handmade Redskins blanket for him, his DJ Hero for the xBox and the final season of Prison Break.

Dinner rolled around and we had a family come over. Her husband is still in Iraq, he doesn't have his leave until February. So her daughter, her in-laws and she came over for dinner. We do that every year no matter what. If there is a Soldier stuck here who didn't get to go home, we always make sure to go get them so that they can have a real meal instead of eating in one of the Post Dining Facilities. We completely enjoyed ourselves.

New Years Eve was spent with The Son and Big Nasty. We played Rock Band, Band Hero and DJ Hero all night. The Son can sing his butt off! It wasn't until 12:15 that we realized we had missed any possible celebrations on tv - so we just kept playing. We were up until 4am on those crazy games!

The first week of the New Year brought a lot of snow our way, and of course Nasty and I were loving being cooped up in the house. I won't go into details! However, by the middle of the week we were a little stir crazy. Nasty was talking about people getting new LCD tv's and how he was going to get one when he comes home this summer. I decided I wasn't going to make him wait that long! We went on a hunting rampage! Sam's Club, Target, Kmart, Walmart, Sears, The PX, Best Buy... if they sold tv's - we went there! Of course I couldn't find anything that had the specs we wanted! We came back home empty handed! I would like to interject here, yesterday I found out some news that saddened me. It may sound petty but I was

The USS Forrestal (CV-59) is slated to be sunk as an artificial reef. Due to elements of the Forrestal design
having led directly to current aircraft carrier design, the ship will be donated to a state and sunk to become
a deep water reef, for fishery propagation and so that it will be inaccessible to divers. In 1983 I was a civilian
welder working on the Forrestal. I've been in her bilge and was on her bridge. I was under her, on top of
her and everywhere in between. I've spent 2 years of my life repairing her hull, her fueling stations and bulk-
heads. I was on the flight Deck of the USS Lexington (CVT-16) when I saw her sail away on her sea trials,
it was a rather proud moment for me. It just makes me sad to know that all the work I've done will now be
nothing more than a playground for fish. I guess it's better than cutting her up for scrap but I wish there was
another solution.

Pues, como Gato trata a decir, estamos aqui en la isla del encanta con i familia.  Manana vamos a inspectar la nueva casita (0h sea nuestro boio).  In other words, we are here in Puerto Rico with my family and tommorow we will go see our little house (boio is a taino word for dwelling).  The flight was uneventful, which is just how we lke it and here in the south west, the weather is a pleasant 80* and dry.  I'm sure we will find some time to hit the beach.  I guess Cat will post some photos so at least those of you facing snow and ice can eat your hearts out.  And so to bed.  ;D ;D ;D ;D

Unfortunately no, but she is coming back to the Philadelphia ship storage before she is to be sunk. Though the Philadelphia
Naval Shipyard has long since been closed, they still use the area for the Moth Ball Fleet. The Union I work for now does work
at the complex that used to be the Navy Yard and where the ship will be stored, I will try my best to at least get a last look at her.

I was just reading an article in Orienteering North America about how even fit athletes need to incorporate more'exercise' in the form of general moving about into their every day lives.  So losing the remote and getting off your backside to change channels and even (gasp!) turning the TV off is one of their suggestions.  Another one is standing up when on the computer (putting your computer on a box to raise it to the correct height).

weee! beware of garden mudslide.  I planted a couple Lantanas I had in pots.  All the Lantanas except one I still have in a pot in a spot where anything would fry to death in summer, stayed warm enough to have some green leaves on it.  So I just did the two that were either going to make it barley or die.

I had GrapeNuts once and it took me almost a half an hour to eat one bowl,I just kept chewing & chewing ;D.My mom use to be big on the big size Shredded Wheat, she would have that every morning with a half of a grapefruit, she ate that for over a year then she switched to Total.

Spent most of the afternoon waiting for the electric company to come and turn on the electricity. They kept telling us that it was on when it wasn't. After waiting 3 hours (even though they told us they would be right over  ::) ) they FINALLY showed up and we have lights. YAY!!!! There is so much work to do on the house. We are going to have a new roof put on and we are wondering about putting in a new floor. We have come to the conclusion that it would probably be impossible for us to stay there at all this trip so we are going to do ALL the work we want done. We have about a year to do it in and by taking our time, we should be able to afford everything.

So, we will be staying with my in-laws. My SIL is going to California tomorrow for 2 weeks and we are going to stay with Carlos' dad. After my SIL gets back, I'm not too sure how soon after, one of my step-daughters & granddaughters will be coming to visit. They go home the day after we do. 

Already, I have BIG welts on my legs & arms from mosquitoes.  ::)

I had GrapeNuts once and it took me almost a half an hour to eat one bowl,I just kept chewing & chewing ;D.My mom use to be big on the big size Shredded Wheat, she would have that every morning with a half of a grapefruit, she ate that for over a year then she switched to Total.


Grapenuts is good,put a little sugar on it and it's delicious.

Hey Bob,glad to see you back,How's everything going?  :)

I am co-chair for teacher appreciation week.  We are looking for some new ideas.  So, for those who have kids or are teachers, what sort of thing has happened at your school or do you think would be a good idea.

I actually was hired for a job and then the hours got cut back.  Do you realise it was a year ago I was let go from that amazing, high-paying job I had for four months?!
Ugh.  Last year was horrible.  I'm so ready for the world to get back in shape.

okay, I don't have a surgery date, but had the rest of the necessary testing done and get to choose between two companies.  So far, it seems one has everything and is too good to be true, and want you to choose them.  The other wants you to have a realistic view about implants.  I still have each of their dvd's to watch and online linfo looking.

Do they give a reason as to why they cut back your hours?  ???

Yeah, what he said. Really look into both companies. See if there is any way you can connect people who have had dealings with them and ask them about the service they had, etc. etc. The more info you have about both them, the better your decision will be-but also listen to your gut feeling.

Supposed to go out with another couple tonight (one of hubby's old friends and his wife - who is quite "back country" shocking)... going to small town (500 people) bar that is having a band.  This could be quite an interesting night; trying to decide if I should start drinking now, to loosen up for the fun and activities. ::)

Cochlear had the to good to be true advertizing.  Looking at their website and looking through their adds, you can see their all about latest technology.  Advanced Bionics is more interested in performance.  Cochlear is dedicaded to the best tecnology for your child, but looking, there's really nothing that Cochlear has that AB doesn't.  AB is dedicaded to helping people as best they can and enjoy hearing sucess stories from people.  AB has a performance comparison and it shows in young children learning speech, Cochlear is slightly higher, but in the rest of the areas, AB is slightly higher.  Both companies have people I can talk to and probably read coments from.  I like AB so far.

it was just that they thought more current employees would be cutting their time back, which would be given to me.  no biggie.  i'm sure it will come later.  I'm an optimist.

My doctor at first wanted to do this in the left ear probably because all the nerve damage, but I just found the picture of me at 6 years old holding the phone to my right ear and remember that I couldn't understand anything in the left ear.  If we're going for speech then it has to be done in the right ear.

So sorry about that. :-\\ My mom started a part time position last month, after being let go from her full time position in Aug. 2008.

And I'm still on the hunt for a job of my own...but am currently volunteering twice a week with data input.

good luck with that!!! Although if she's really that back country I'd hold off on the advanced drinking - we know how easy it becomes for you to speak your mind once you've....how'd you put it... loosened up!  ;)

Went out last night, had some drinks, had some laughs, danced and basically had a good time...  Till one of the boyfriends decided to get jealous because some guy was talking and dancing with his girl!  Heck me and 2 of the other females in out group were with her dancing at the time, the fellow just sort of joined in.  Then all heck broke loose!  Me and another of our group stayed inbetween the action.  Then my hubby got in to break it up...  I just am not a jealous person, if I can't trust my significant other while I am there (then how the heck do you trust them when they aren't with you?). What type of relationship is that????  Girlfriend left, my hubby found her walking on the interstate ( guess she was going to walk 30 miles home?)...  Sort of an exciting ending...  Today is a slightly painful experience!

Quite the evening there, Sami!  Sounds like our Friday night when a girl tried to push up on my boyfriend (yes, I was right there dancing with him) and then the girl dancing with her tried to push up on me!  We left the dance floor for a while!  ;D  You're right, though, trust is necessary.  I trusted him to go to the bar Sat night with his guy friends.

Tam, I'm so glad you had great holidays with Big and the Son!!!!  I was hoping and praying for ya.

BTW, where Sami has to drive an hour to Bennigan's, mine is about 2 miles from my apartment.  ;)

Q, sorry, he didn't give specifics as to brands he prefers.  He said penguins are cute and the rest, given that everything is equal doesn't matter as long as you have someone you love sharing it.

Bobby, good luck with the marathon.  I'm sure you will do well.  My new b/f was an ultramarathonner and just did the Detroit Marathon in November.  If you want any tips, let me know and I'll pass the questions on.  The main thing is pace yourself and just keep your feet hitting the ground (according to him).


My 2 days w/ Rob went great.  I even got to see him on Saturday, which was not expected.  He said his head just wasn't where the guys were and all he could think about was how much he just wanted to chill on the couch with me.  He said next year he will go to the hockey game and hang with them, but he is staying with me.  We went out to dinner and dancing both Thursday and Friday.  He bought me the Wii Fit, too.  We had a great time together.
