Yes, we went one evening.  We came across it when out for a stroll along the waterfront.

Take a bag of quarters if you are going.  There was some good stuff there - Pacman, pinball, tabletop ice hockey. Then a lot of those mechanical "laughing policeman" type things which are funny the first time.  Also "what the butler saw" machines which I didn't check out.  The mechanical farm was interesting to watch

We have done it before-a few times. We don't usually go to Vegas, we go to L.A. (when his sister lived there) and/or San Bernadino where his oldest daughter lives. And we ALWAYS stop in Tulsa-either on the way to or from to see my family who lives there.

The difference between CA Extreme and the Pinball Museum in Vegas is that the Pinball Museum's open year-round, as opposed to just one weekend a year.  It's worth a visit.

Needless to say, I had a purple and denim wedding the first time and the second time I had a green velvet dress.  I guess I didn't really plan all that well.  lol  It was the only thing I had that fit.

I'd still LOVE to do somethin like this...but I don't think I'll be ready this fall. Plus, I'd have to make travel plans (which usually require being made several months in advance), and I don't have the money to spend on it anytime soon. Part of the problem is that I don't have a paying job at the moment, and I'm still looking for one, hence the lack of $$$. Maybe a year or two from now I'd be ready. Don't get me wrong; it would be a blast to take part in a get-together; I just can't afford it at the moment.

I will start looking at hotels and such.  I think we should get a preliminary count.  I wish there was a way to broadcast this more fully.  I have every intention of going.  It would be nice if we could get some kind of group discount.

Does anyone have a certain place they'd like to stay?  I think it would be pretty cool if we were all at the same hotel.  In Philly we were at different hotels and it was a little difficult.  Do we want to stay at a big casino, or someplace smaller?  The benefit to bigger casinos is that there are lots of bars and public areas where we can all gather.  Plus they tend to be a little nicer and are somewhat competitive price-wise.

We also need to find out who is bringing a significant other, and who is traveling solo so that we know who wants to share rooms.

Ok, I just did a preliminary search for rooms in mid-October.  I checked casinos that are right on the strip.  I like to stay on the strip because then you can just walk everywhere.  There was a huge variety of prices.  Mandalay Bay and MGM Grand were around $200 per night, but Excalibur was only $64 a night!  Hello!  And Luxor was $79 a night.  I'm sure these are weekday rates, but that is still pretty awesome!  The only one of those I have stayed at is Luxor and it was great.  There is even the Riviera, which is a little run down, but their rates start at $27 per night.  No joke.  For $27 I can do run-down.  But I am also willing to pay more for quality.

Yep, I'm pretty much the same.

I will start looking at hotels and such.  I think we should get a preliminary count.  I wish there was a way to broadcast this more fully.  I have every intention of going.  It would be nice if we could get some kind of group discount.

Does anyone have a certain place they'd like to stay?  I think it would be pretty cool if we were all at the same hotel.  In Philly we were at different hotels and it was a little difficult.  Do we want to stay at a big casino, or someplace smaller?  The benefit to bigger casinos is that there are lots of bars and public areas where we can all gather.  Plus they tend to be a little nicer and are somewhat competitive price-wise.

We also need to find out who is bringing a significant other, and who is traveling solo so that we know who wants to share rooms.

My mom goes to Vegas a lot and stays at the Venetian.  um plus there's that new hotel.... can't think of the name of it right now... whereever we decide I'm willing to bet if we book it as a package we can get the rates down even  further too...

Ok, I just did a preliminary search for rooms in mid-October.  I checked casinos that are right on the strip.  I like to stay on the strip because then you can just walk everywhere.  There was a huge variety of prices.  Mandalay Bay and MGM Grand were around $200 per night, but Excalibur was only $64 a night!  Hello!  And Luxor was $79 a night.  I'm sure these are weekday rates, but that is still pretty awesome!  The only one of those I have stayed at is Luxor and it was great.  There is even the Riviera, which is a little run down, but their rates start at $27 per night.  No joke.  For $27 I can do run-down.  But I am also willing to pay more for quality.

Excalibur is just a bit closer to the main center of the strip than Luxor, really just one casino over. I get offers from The Mirage every month and they have some reasonable rooms there too.

Let's look at dates, so that we can start booking.  Everyone that's read this thread, maybe we could PM or email people that we know are interested that haven't seen it so they know we are getting more serious about it.  The sooner we book, the easier it will be to get discounts.

We should also look at who is interested in what shows so that we can look at those tickets too.  For instance, I know my husband and BIL won't be interested in Cher, but they might like to see something else.  Of course, we may all want to split up sometimes.  *sigh*  There is just so much to plan!!!  :D

I am down with either of those months.  I will say September (and sometimes October even) the temps can be in the triple digits that time of year in Vegas.  Their weather isn't much different than it is in Phoenix.

What you said.  The entire town - from air fares, to casinos, to the convention scene - is about getting people into the town cheaply, housing them cheaply, and hoping they'll spend a fortune on food, gambling, or both while they're there.  In that sense, it doesn't matter where you stay, it's all about the Strip.  Everywhere on the Strip is within a 15-minute walk of everywhere else on the Strip.  Everything north of the Strip (read: the Fremont Street Experience) can be had for a convient cab ride from the Strip.

I agree August sucks for me too - unless it is like the first week in August, otherwise I have state fair goings on I have to be at and then the start of school at the end of august.  And it is difficult enough - let alone take off a weekend :P

September might be an issue for us - only because Nasty will only be home for about 2 months and it depends on when they will approve his leave for.

When he gets back, we will be offered block leave, meaning approx. 30 days that he can take off. Normally though, they give you a time frame in order to use that leave. I think with this Unit though, it will be easier to get his leave approved than if we were still in Texas. And of course, it all depends on how long it takes for them to reset when they get back here.

Irregardless, I am doing everything in my power to make sure we are there!!! 8)

Ok, so reading back a couple of pages, it is easy to see who pretty much can or can't come. That's fine. We are still planning this whether everyone can come or only a few can come.

This thread was started last July, in an attempt to iron out the details. Obviously, there are still hold outs for different months, and it is understood that some people just cannot afford it or get the time off of work. Trust me, we are not holding anything against anyone! 8)

If you can't come - we will miss you, but we understand.

Now, I think we should nail this down by the end of the week so that people can start planning, submitting leave dates etc.

I think this is why we have spoken about doing a big meet-up but never doing it.

The one in Philly in part happened because two or three people got together and set the date (thanks to Gis's friend for getting married!). Then it was opened to other people.  I think the best thing to do here is set a date that three or four can agree on and then others will try to get there.

Since my schedule is more flexible than others, I say some of the folks with conflicts suggest weekends that would work for them.  It is far more constructive than saying what won't work.

Sorry for losing my cool earlier.  This is just a frustrating process.

Thing is, I checked today and a passenger van from here and return has now gone way up in price! $1400+ just to rent the thing. Then we have to add the insurance stuff on it, the gas, the miles (because Heaven forbid they give you any free miles!) and even if it was all the people I listed, no one is going to want to pay $200+/ea. when they aren't going to be in it as long as other people. And the drive from our place to Las Vegas totals out at 38 hours, which isn't too bad when we all take turns driving - but then there comes another issue - all drivers have to be present with their license when the vehicle is picked up! Gah!

But I am still trying to work out a few other ideas I have! 8)

I have thought of that as well. Our Mountaineer has 3rd row seating, so with Nasty and I, it leaves 5 seats open - but most likely 4 because no one really ever wants to be squashed in the middle seat of the second row! And especially not for 2 days! lmao

i will have to wait and see and if I am able to go, with or without Lady Di, the 18th of Sept is fine.  we're probbably gonna go to Vegas in May for Julie's 21'st B-day, and then we go on vacation to Lake Tahoe in mid August, and after that I'll have to see if I have the money to go. FINALLY!  A date!  Praise Jesus!

Next years school calender is in the process of getting approved by the school board and administration.  So it should be coming out within a month.  I do not believe there are any FFA functions, that I have to take students to.  SO YEAH - and hopefully I can leave Friday night and come home Sunday.  It won't be a long trip, but I will try and make it if I can; as long as it is somewhat reasonable prices I can get it done!

So, Sept 18th is it? For real? That should be good for us-if I can talk Hubby into it. Like I said before, my step-son is getting married in August. Can't remember when the date it. But, that will give us enough time AFTER the wedding to get things situated. Carlos has been talking about taking a trip to California to see his oldest daughter. Even though we will just have seen her at the wedding, we haven't been out there in several years. Also, one of my sisters still live in Tulsa and hopefully, we can stop there, too (either on the way out or the way back).

I had a dream last night that I was on campus and Ash, another board member (not sure who) and a real world friend- one I go to all my celeb events with- were meeting. We were at the basket arena and for some reason the Pistons (old skool) were practicing here but a lot of them were in wheel chairs.
Anyway my celeb hunting friend and I were all excited running around crashing rooms that were off limits trying to get photos.  Ash was standing there in a corridor watching with a big smile but then she seemed to get bored. The other member had no interest in us (well me at all)  it was weird.  ;D

Before we went to Philly I think everyone was secretly thinking things like this but in all honesty everyone had a great time.  Yes we did split up into smaller groups, but that was to persue our own interests I think.  And we all got together for meals.

All I have to say is Coca Cola Store, Eminem.. I mean M&M and I don't know about ya'll but I'm spending a couple hours at Game Works--but I can do that on my own time if need be!  For $55 we could hit the Pole Position racetrack!  8)

all night; every night... I actually program the DVR to tune to different channels so I eliminate the risk of waking to something obnoxious.  ;D

I had a dream last night that I was on campus and Ash, another board member (not sure who) and a real world friend- one I go to all my celeb events with- were meeting. We were at the basket arena and for some reason the Pistons (old skool) were practicing here but a lot of them were in wheel chairs.
Anyway my celeb hunting friend and I were all excited running around crashing rooms that were off limits trying to get photos.  Ash was standing there in a corridor watching with a big smile but then she seemed to get bored. The other member had no interest in us (well me at all)  it was weird.  ;D


Well, if you were running, I would just stand off to the side and be bored.  I never run anywhere!  ;D  I don't know though...I might run for some basketball players.  ;)

I went home last night and tried on all my jeans and stood a certain way to see if the CT had become some kind of new condition I needed to be aware of.  Then I had my girlfriend (who had innocently stopped in quick to drop off a jacket she had borrowed) do the same standing the same way.  Conclusion.  It's NORMAL!  HA! :)

I have no idea. That happens a lot with Photobucket pictures that get posted here, as I've noticed. Does it depend on the browser and/or version being used? ???
