Subject: Birthday Threads - A Poll

At one point a few years ago, concerns were raised about the number of birthday threads being posted on the boards. At that point, Chucky had outright banned public birthday greetings. Of course, with new members, birthday threads gradually made their way back to the boards. (I couldn't find the link to the banning, I have a feeling it might have been before the new forum.)
It has been said that nearly every other day is a significantly active member's birthday, thus more birthday threads are being posted and constantly replied to. Although there is nothing wrong with wishing someone a happy birthday, these threads can become tiresome.
So basically, the question is what it is:
What should be done about Birthday threads?

I can't vote because I can't decide which option I favour!
I like the birthday threads, but I get annoyed sometimes when it is a little while after the birthday and people are still getting the greetings. I wish they could be locked. That said, often I reply a while after my birthday because I'm on holiday at that time... :-\\
I have thought about suggesting a separate board for them but wondered if the forum has too many boards...

How about you just put a sticky thread up to celebrate birthdays indiscriminately?

Yup-I'm torn between the two, too. ;) :D :D ;D ;D
I have been here for a LONG time and I don't remember birthday threads being banned. Maybe it was before MY time. I think it is nice to be able to wish our friends a happy birthday. I understand that maybe they do kind of overtake things considering there are a total of 1334 members-but only I don't know how many active members. The question is, do we really need another board? :-\\ I don't know but I do know whether they get their own board or stay here in the PPP, birthday threads should stay.

What the heck is wrong with wishing people Happy Birthday? It shows people that you are thinking about them,everyone likes to know that they are appreciated.

It would be possible.... but honestly most people want their own recognition I think.
Not to mention that it would be mods who would change the title, and when the time comes that there aren't anymore mods - who then will do it? It will turn back into separate threads again.

I couldn't come up with another acceptable name for the board. One that would imply exactly what the board is about without just saying the boring "Happy Birthday Board". Any ideas?

And if you see a birthday thread, and post a 'happy birthday' wish in it, are you doing it just because the thread is there and you feel obligated to post in it, otherwise, people might think "Now why didn't so and so post in that birthday thread?"
A board I used to belong to, the administrator made it so birthday threads were automated, so pretty much anyone who had a birthday on said day would get an automated birthday thread. It wasn't sincere, and not really heartfelt, and it ended up with a whole page of birthday threads given to people that nobody knew who they were LOL

I think here it is generally because that person is liked or at least known by a lot of people. If you look at the threads they are for the more regular posters. For example last week one was started on Thursday for maddog but not for vicemancometh, and similarly on Saturday Step-Chan got a birthday thread but Kenlos didn't.

You are so not alone...neither my daughter nor I like clowns. They freak Micah out so imagine how well the appointments at the orthopedist's office went when she was in 4th grade---the office was nothing but clowns :o
