Happy new year folks :) Its late afternoon Jan 1 here and a boiling hot day of 102F (our 4th day in a row of these temps and more to come) but a darn sight cooler in my apartment with the aircon running 24/7 !

I drank a two liter bottle full of fuzzy navels last night while watching "The Dark Knight" with our friends.  I made my fuzzy navels (plural, cause that was way more than one serving!) with 90 proof peach schnapps and Tampico orange juice, and mixed it in an empty 7 Up bottle.  So very ghetto (and very strong....the ratio of booze to juice was way off), but I drank it all.

Luckily, I don't look like that guy. Yay for high alcohol tolerance! :D

Now we're going to go shopping at IKEA and grab some lunch.  We were going to hit the sushi buffet, but it is hella expensive today (although they're busting out crab legs and stuff....poop), so we'll find someplace else to eat.

Yesterday I spent the night at a friend's house watching Dick Clark's Rockin Eve,had some homemade lasagna,watched some television and played video games.

had some friends over for dinner and a movie last night. We played cards after dinner and then we watched Dick Clark do his traditional New Years Times Square countdown. and then we toasted, kissed and watched Mamma Mia.  Julie was out with friends until 5am & when she's out late like that, for some reason I can't go to sleep  :-\\  so I went to sleep after she got home and slept in to 1pm.  Not long after I got up I did a little bit of fence repair for an hour and then I went out to get a pizza for dinner. my frined is the manager at Round Table and when I called in my order for pickup she recognized me. I said I have a coupon for $2 dollars off but she said just to ask for her when I get there. When I got there she gave me her employee discount which took $12 off my pizza price. that was awesome.

Had a great New Years - we last minute planned to go out with Hubby, Hubby's sister (and her husband and one of her friends), and another couple ; found a babysitter for all 5 children (ages 1, 1 1/2, 5, 6, 7) she had her hands full :P.  Went to a little bar and grill, everyone loved their food, came home and played wii with all till 1:30.  Great spur of the moment time, but was much fun. 8)

Woke up at 7:30 this morning to drive 2 hours to visit my mother (my brother and sister-in-law where there from AZ) had dinner with all, and the girls wanted to stay with grandma; so we left them there - I get to drive another 2 hours to pick them up :P (but they have time with grandma :))

Great time so far; besides the slight headache from the beer last night :-[

I want to post a public apology to any of my friends here that had trouble or were missed in playing virtual Secret Santa.  I try really hard to be sure it's a fun time and in the past it's been very easy and very very fun!  I had a rough time because I was organizing it from two computers but still, I'm confident that all the bases were covered. If you're like me, this thread is the only time where we actually get things we like and want!
The thoughtfulness of our members is shown in the love they put into the gift preparation and in the consideration of what would make their giftee happiest.

So please accept this apology that, not on ly will the thread be more closely policed in future, but I owe someone a bunch of presents- by no means is it an indication that you are not loved.  I just hope that the mess will not deter you from joining in next time.  Tons of thanks to BFF for keeping me up to speed (what with me on vacation and unable to get to a computer) and a million hugs and kisses to Isabel for being tolerant and kind.

Yep, Nasty leaves us again, but this time it is only for little over a month. He is going to Cali to play soldier in the desert! Training for the upcoming deployment of course. I am thankful though that he was able to be here for Christmas and New Year's. I wouldn't trade that for anything.

So The Son and I are going to be handling things from our end, probably going to end up driving each other crazy, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

It isn't a long train ride, just half an hour.  It is just a little trip we take sometimes.  Providence doesn't have much really, I prefer the walk around Boston because the train leaves us off in Copley Square were their are shops, a nice park, great old buildings like the Boston Public Library and Trinity Church, and it is a short walk to the Boston Common.  No tea for me, but nice hot chocolate will do nicely

Sorry I am so late with my best 2009 wishes to everyone!  I have had the flu since New Year's Eve (alone in a motel room), so I didn't get to watch the ball drop (asleep by 10:30).  I managed to do the 3 hr drive home with no problem, then pretty much fell into bed and stayed there.  ::)

I'm glad someone else is like me, unable to sleep because our girls are out late at night because Lady Di just goes to sleep, no problem  ???  But I do wake her & ask her to call Julie to see what time she think she'll be home.   
...so yesterday was the funeral for our friends father. I saw 2 ceremonies that I'd never seen before. the first was the Masons since he was a member. They did an "interesting" tribute, but the coolest was the military since he was a Army veteran.they played Taps as they unfolded the flag, then displayed it, then refolded it & give it to our friends mom. We also got to visit with old friends we hadn't seen in years. After they had a BBQ luncheon. we had BBQ beef, hot link sausgaes, chicken, and beans. later that day our friend called and asked if he could come by and bring us some leftovers. he brought us over enough bbq for 8 people  :)  I happily shoved it in the fridge and then they gave Lady Di a gift card as a thank you for singing at the funeral.
so Julie was almost 100% well, & then she caught a virus or cold and is sick. poor baby had a fever and cough so it's lots of soup for her. 
my neighbor whas working on repairing the fence today and he poked a freaking hole in my sprinkler pvc pipe (dumbass)  so I had to shut the water off and will have to fix it but it's not urgent. not sure what the hell he was doing but things happen.

Big Rapids and the surrounding area schools all decided to close today by 6pm last night due to the freezing rain we got.  Everything was a skating rink this morning.  FSU didn't even bother to go out and salt anything until AFTER everyone started arriving!!!! How brilliant  ::)

Mike, thanks for the wishes from my mom.  I wish I could say she was given the royal treatment, but not really.  Micah and I did what we could to make her feel special (a week before her birthday).  My family doesn't get too excited about birthdays (except for Micah's) anymore.  And, I guess I should clarify.  We really don't have a See's around here, I think they are strictly Cali, but set up the kiosk in the mall for the holidays.  We probably won't see them again until Christmas next year (I hope they come back, if not, I will be begging you for a website or asking you to ship!).  I hope Julie feels better soon!  I'm still doing the tea, soup and citrus fruit thing.  Hope you get your water situation straightened out!

I just got back from the doctors office, my wife and I needed a nasal swab to test for MRSA. Since my dad's been
diagnosed with MRSA in his eye I've been extremely paranoid. I've washed my hands so many times they are in a
constant state of prune. Talking to the doctor eased my mind a little but I still worry about it.

We carry MRSA in our family.  Every once in a while, one of us will get what looks like an ingrown hair or a pimple, then it will just blow up into an ugly assed abscess looking thing that eventually ruptures or we have to go to the hospital to get it lanced and packed (usually in the super big sores).  Not much we can do about it, except not use the same towels, wash our hands, and keep any open wounds or whatever clean.

It sucks, especially when you get the sores in really obvious places....like your face. :P

I hope you guys don't start carrying it because it is really annoying.

I don't think that will happen.  The more dangerous strain of MRSA (HA-MRSA) only shows up in 25% of the cases, and, if caught in time, can be treated by some crazy antibiotic.  Now CA-MRSA is the mundane strain, and that's the one he probably has if they released him.  Did he have any noticeable sores near his eye?

He didn't have any sores near his eye, it was really bloodshot, I mean deep red. One day after they diagnosed it as MRSA and gave him eye drops and
his eye cleared considerably.

Gis, that is insane!  I guess not everyone realizes that it costs more to warm up a room/building than keeping it at a constant temp.  Truthfully, I didn't even think about it until a co-worker told me, but on the other hand I NEVER turned the heat all the way off, either, no matter how long I was going to be gone for.  I always thought that was just asking for trouble.  I hope you warm up soon.  I am always cold at work, but that's just because they don't have the heat high enough, not because they turn it off (though I suspect they might on the weekends).  We aren't allowed to have space heaters (unless you have an office with real walls, which I don't) because it could short out the whole area (we found out how close to the truth that was when the student Dana plugged hers in and caused the replacement scanner to crash).

This year is starting as lame as the last one 8-P

Ugh, worked all day feeling like hell (still waiting for a night where I get more than 3-4 hrs sleep--for those of you who can function on that, my hat's off to you, I don't know how you do it).  Micah called yesterday and said that there has been a change of plans.  They are taking the train to GR....which means Mom gets to drive an hour to GR at 9:30 tonight (might leave at 9 given the weather we had today) and drive back, arriving at home after 11.30pm.  Might have her drive back, but have a feeling I will be up listening to her adventures anyway so sleep not an option.  ::)  I love my child, I love my child, I love my child......  :)

They want to meet with me tomorrow morning, so they can interview me and ask about my skills/things of that nature.

The only down side right now, is that it's a temp agency...and this position will only be available for a few months...but at least it'll be something for me, because I do need a job!

Temp positions are great.  They show you how well you fit and if it doesn't work it doesn't show up as job hopping, just the end to a temp job.

I have been watching the Patty Duke show. It comes on at 1pm on WHT... which I think stands for World Harvest TV. I just call it white tv...sorry I no that's not very PC... but its a religious channel and their commercials are all about converting the world to christianity (which I find highly offensive) so they have these adds that feature starving people in third world countries and pretend to advocate feeding the world but really they just want everyone to pray (Our Father) to the same God... hypocrites.

I'm not sure if we ever had that station...but given its description, I, too, think it's a shame that it had to go. :( We've had our FIOS system for almost 7 months and I still don't know all the channels yet. I do know that one of the channels was deleted last month, though. I forget which one it was.

Earlier this week, I sent a copy of my resume to a company nearby who was looking for a "beginning database designer", with skills in MS Excel and Access....and today I got a phone call from the company!! They want to meet with me tomorrow morning, so they can interview me and ask about my skills/things of that nature.

The only down side right now, is that it's a temp agency...and this position will only be available for a few months...but at least it'll be something for me, because I do need a job!


Temping is great!  You get to go just as the people in the office are turning into idiots.  If they ask you to stay you can say no without looking like you're quitting.  Or, sometimes you find yourself in a good job, with good people, and are asked to stay  :)

i got lots and lots of quality sleep last night for the first time in a while.

lots of dreams. i had the one where i'm about to miss a plane flight, which i love because then i half wake up and realize i'm NOT about to miss a plane flight. i also had a weird dream about body doubles, i don't remember the details but it was cool.

I have time on my hands so I looked up Sigs ancestry on ancestry.com.  I took the information he gave me and found out something he didn't know. He knew his family is Irish with a dab of Swedish.  He always thought that his grandmother was off of the boat from Sweden, but she wasn't.  Her father was, but her mother was listed as "colored". Seems that his grandmothers family was "passing". Looking further it was confirmed that his grandmothers father was "mullato" and his father, Sigs ggggranfather was "B" for "Black"  He never knew, neither his brother, sister, or cousins know.  He is loving it and can't wait to break it to the family  ;D

aw I caught that channel when I was in the hotel during the fire...they had some good shows.


I have been watching the Patty Duke show. It comes on at 1pm on WHT... which I think stands for World Harvest TV. I just call it white tv...sorry I no that's not very PC... but its a religious channel and their commercials are all about converting the world to christianity (which I find highly offensive) so they have these adds that feature starving people in third world countries and pretend to advocate feeding the world but really they just want everyone to pray (Our Father) to the same God... hypocrites.

But the Patty Duke show rocks!

Happy New Year everyone - albeit a bit belated.

My mother-in-law arrived on Friday 19th December and left yesterday!  It was definitely time for her to go - I'd started muttering to myself about the "annoying" things she was doing.

Christmas is weird here.  Everything shuts early on Christmas Eve but lots of places are open v late on Christmas Day itself.  i.e. we thought we'd go bowling on Christmas Eve and got there just before it shut at 3 p.m. but the next day it was open until 11 p.m. Strange  :-\\

We went to Las Vegas for New Year (we were there Sunday 28th till Saturday 3rd).  We stayed in the Circus Circus hotel, which was on the 'strip' but a bit out of the action.  We had a hire car though so there wasn't any problems getting about.  We chose the hotel as being child-friendly.

I can't remember the exact order we did things at the beginning of the week! We went to the Hoover Dam and took the opportunity to drive across into Arizona (another state off the list!), up the "Eiffel Tower" in the Paris Hotel, to the Fremont Street experience to see the light show, to the 'covered' show of the Folies Bergeres and to see Scarlett, Princess of Magic.

On the afternoon of New Year's Eve we went to see Ka by Cirque du Soleil.  It was fantastic!  There were several dramatic effects that worked really well.

Afterwards we went for a meal in the Rainforest Cafe, where there was a real party atmosphere.  However jetlag was still a bit of a problem so we were in bed by 10.00 p.m.  At midnight Dai and I were woken by the fireworks going off.

The next day we drove to Death Valley (in California, tick).  It was a fair drive (3 hours or so) but so worth it.  We spent a while around the visitors centre at Furnace Creek and then headed South to the natural bridge, Devil's Golf Course (like the surface of the moon) and Badwater  (282 ft, 82 metres below sea level). 

On our last full day we went a shortish drive out to Red Rock Canyon.  Dai had found a bike hire place nearby so I let him go out for a couple of hours on his own whilst I drove on the visitor's centre.  It was so interesting there that we didn't have time to do the scenic drive before having to meet Dai for lunch!  Afterwards we all drove around the one way loop and parked at one or two of the stopping places.  Dai's mum can't walk too far on rough ground so we didn't do any hikes.

Both Death Valley and Red Rock Canyon are National Parks and so we registered the children with the junior ranger program at both places.  They get a workbook each with activities suitable for their different ages and, when it is completed, they get a badge.  We've done these things in a few places now and they are generally very good.  The rangers always have time to answer the questions and share their knowledge.

Anyway, the last of the washing has been done, the suitcases emptied and now it's time to get back to normal!

Circus Circus is a great place to stay if you have kids with you.  That's where we stayed when we went last summer.  It is a bit out of the action, but we had a great view of the strip.

If the company is not interested, then the temp agency will keep my resume and save it for something that will be potentially available for me.

Glad to hear you had a wonderful time in Vegas, Karen!  :) When I was a kid, Hoover Dam used to scare me to death!  :o The last time I was out there, I was really sad to see the declining water levels at Lake Mead. I'm not as scared of Hoover Dam now, but it's still a little bit intimidating!

Nothing new to report in my life.  I am home visiting my husband and cats.  Monday is hubby's birthday and our 6th anniversary is next Thursday (a week from now).  Not sure if I'll be able to come up to visit on either of those dates or not.  :-\\

I'll tell ya, it's been weird staying with my parents again.  I'm sleeping in my old room (which isn't my room anymore, of course.)  Nothing is the same except for my parents behavior towards me and each other.  It's challenging to not be frustrated nor to interfere.  They are adults and will live their life however they choose.  They still see me as a teenager who doesn't know much about life (including how to cook or do laundry).  ;D  The other night I was making macaroni and cheese (because that is what mom wanted when she got out of the hospital).  She was standing next to me at the stove telling me, "Now you drain the macaroni, now you put the cheese and butter and milk in and stir..."  Yes mom, I'm almost 40, been married almost 6 years...I know how to make mac and cheese (my hubby hasn't starved to death (yet))  :-X

Otherwise, I'm tired.  Can't seem to get good sleep anymore (not that I've ever really been able to sleep soundly) but especially lately. 
Mom has been doing good though, although she still has to do cardio rehab (whatever that will entail), presumable it's exercise of some such.  Mainly I suppose I am there to tote her around in my car to doctors appointments when my brother or dad has to work and do laundry and tell her to behave.  lol  She has a compulsion to pick at her scabs  8-P and if I catch her doing it, I tell her please don't do that.  I'm sure she appreciates being scolded just as much as I appreciate her telling me how to do things I already have been doing for years.  Oh well.  I guess you can't go home again or so they say.

Today I went to a thrift store sponsored by a group that rescues cats and dogs.  They have an adoptable cat in the shop that was so adorable.  I really really want to bring it home but of course I can't.  I can't save all the kitties, even though I want to.

I was trying to explain to someone the other day how the person I am in AZ is not me... I don't know who that person is...but she's 14 not 41.  I have no opinions... no drive... I basically just want to survive the week and go home so I can be myself... and the amount of cursing I do on the drive home? Hilarious...because I will never curse in front of my mom... I once said shyt just out of her earshot and was panicked that she heard me... I was in my late 20s at the time.... every other aspect of my life I curse like a sailor...or someone who works in law enforcement!

I let her drive everywhere, I let her pay.... she even picks out clothes for me.  I push the cart in the grocery store and carry the bags... its just like when I was kid... all of it.  The only thing that is different is I do my own laundry because I'm a little OCD about laundry and I can't stand people handling my dirty clothes...but my mom does everything else... and I trip over myself trying to please her and keep things peace.... any other place I'd be like eff you... I'll do that shyt later... ;D

I loved Robert Urich.  He wasn't a great actor, but he was a real gentleman.  He lived in Massachusetts for quite a while during and after "Spenser for Hire" and was known for being down to earth friendly. It was sad to see him go  :\'(

When I was about thirty I was home visiting for an afternoon.  I was on the porch and my father was on the lawn doing something.  He said "sh*t" pretty much under his breath, then looked up and saw me.  I thought he would keel over.  He apologized a couple of times.  He never had swore around women and/or children and didn't allow anyone to swear in or around his house or in front of his family. It was the way he was raised.  I am excellent with the right word for the right occasion, but I have followed in his tradition. I don't swear in front of people who I don't know, or people who I know don't swear.  Everywhere else is fair game.  ;D

I am supposed to be going to a coffee morning soon but I can't get the car down the driveway because of the sheet of ice covering it.  Dai parked at the bottom overnight so he could get to work.  I called a friend to see if she could meet me at the road but only got her answer phone.  :-\\

Hope the weather warms up during the day so I can try and scrape some ice away.

well legally she was black but was light enough (and had the right hair) that she could have passed as a white woman if she wanted to.

Well that is just not right.  The other kid should be made to apologize, and sitting up front for the rest of the year is a bit much. 
Get some salt for the drive way.  It doesn't take a whole lot if you sprinkle it and wait at least a half hour before you are ready to leave. I live on a dead end at the bottom of a rise and to be sure that I can get out I go out early with about a gallon and throw handfuls out, it works well.  ;)

She has been on a special low-iodine diet for the past week, since next Friday she begins a radioactive iodine treatment in which she will need to be in isolation for the weekend....but this morning she had another nasty headache which will not go away. So I've been taking care of her needs.

My mom's friend has a son who is develop mentally disabled. Anyway he used do special olympics and every year they had a celeb softball game and because of my mom's son I got to meet some cool celebs of the 70s and have been to two kenny rogers concerts... okay I'm not a big kenny rogers fan but they were the second and third concert I'd ever attended... and it was pretty cool... who was that woman he used to perform with... not Dolly... was it Dottie West... anyway I saw her whoever she is too.

look I don't care how pissed off you are at least have the decency to give us a general idea where the so called bomb might be... don't just says somewhere  :-X  and make that like a friggin' two or three mile radius... oh and don't go looking for it on the news because we determined it to be a hoax so ... no boom... but if Santa Barbara blows up tomorrow you didn't hear any of this from me... and Tam will have to remove my post.  ;)

Being a homeowner now I've inherited all the problems of owning a home. I have oil heat, whenever the boiler
kicks in I have an overwhelming exhaust smell throughout the first floor. Maybe I'm paranoid but I immediatedly
call the service tech to come take a look at it, in fact he is here now, I'll post later of the results.

We have a service contract which includes a cleaning every summer. You may want to look into that.

Cat, I read your post and went and asked the tech. Here's what happened, service on the boiler was long overdue. The filter,
line ---- basically everthing was clogged with soot. So in a sense, the heat was going right out the chimney. He cleaned all that,
said we are good to go and told us to call for a complete service.

About the service contract, he said we have to talk to the guy who will do the service. I am getting the service contract, if
for anything just a piece of mind.

Here is the real embarrassing part. I am a union Sheet Metal Worker, I work for a HVAC company and yet know nothing about
heaters or boilers. Next fall I am taking the service class when they offer it.  :-[

I'm at a loss reading about boiler heaters.  We had central heat/air and here too.

Thanks, Jeff.  I usually only get to teach in the fall semester because there are too many sections for the faculty to cover.  I think this is only the 2nd Spring/Winter (used to call this semester Winter, now we call it Spring--go figure) that they have asked me to teach and the first spring I've had 2 sections.  It is also the first time I have had sections of repeaters.  Basically, the only way to fail FSUS (stands for Ferris State University Seminar) is to not show up or go to events.  It is the freshman seminar that all freshmen have to take.  It is only 1 credit, so it only meets 1 hour a WEEK and usually doesn't require homework (but it can vary depending on the instructor you get).  I spent a couple hours in the office today getting stuff photocopied.  I didn't get everything done, so I'll have to go back in again tomorrow.

I just found out something pretty cool.  One of Micah's friends (whom I met last semester) called her up and told her he has me.  He told her he was happy that he was going to like one of his teachers.  She told me he is excited to have me for a teacher.  I am so happy because I know the majority of them will have an attitude because they have to take the class again.    ::)

We went skiing yesterday.  We go to a really nice place but it's a bit of a drive from here so we have to get up and out.

Mid-afternoon it started snowing and it hadn't stopped when we went up to bed.  It has just started snowing again.

I think we are going to take down the Christmas things today.  Dai and I feel a bit bad because we usually like to do it on twelfth night but didn't this year.

Thanks for being so sweet, Jeff.  That is a really logical thought, but no, classes still start in January  ::) and end in May and summer classes still start in May (they haven't changed the name yet).  It might have something to do with Banner, but I haven't been curious enough to ask anyone.  I still occasionally screw up and say Winter, but always correct myself.  Oh well, it is really only occasionally a problem for us when doing test titles and logging stuff in, but we've accommodated ok.  :)

That's kinda how it was at CSUN, too. They've started the spring semester around the last week of January and finished in May, right before Memorial Day, and had the graduations/commencements shortly thereafter. But last year they changed that: the semester started right after Martin Luther King Day, and finished in mid-May, with the graduations happening during the week before Memorial Day. (Remember last year, mine was on May 20th.) So I guess they don't have winter session anymore; which would make sense because it would only be two weeks long! But I don't have to worry about that anymore, because I'm finally done!

Today is late start for school so youngone is having a bit of a sleep in.  My sister has to go in for a bit more surgery, she had a lumpectomy 2 weeks ago and they are going in again, even though they said the margins were clean.  My other sister went into the hospital on Saturday with a serious gout, being 150lbs overweight doesn't help.

Found out that they are cancelling my Wed class due to low enrollment.  I personally think 10 is the perfect number of students, but the powers-that-be don't.  I still have 16 in my Thurs class.  I'll miss meeting the Wed kids and the extra money---not to mention all the time I spent in the office photocopying, etc.  ::)  Ah well.

The beds are pretty heavy so they do not move and the king size mattress we now have on it is SUPER heavy. You should see the two of us TRYING to turn that sucker over every now and again. It does take the two of us and we do struggle with it.

Today is late start for school so youngone is having a bit of a sleep in.  My sister has to go in for a bit more surgery, she had a lumpectomy 2 weeks ago and they are going in again, even though they said the margins were clean.  My other sister went into the hospital on Saturday with a serious gout, being 150lbs overweight doesn't help. 
I hope they're gonna be ok too.  prayers for healing have been prayed and will be prayed again  :)

Himself is in hospital today having his potassium checked, he has been told he is a medical anomaly which he found highly amusing.  ;D
His potassium was low and as he never eats fruit etc, his doctor told him to eat lots and take potassium tablets and come back for another test 6 weeks later. He did and his potassium level had gone down even lower!! Now he has given up on the tablets and fruit so i expect it will have gone back up again.  ::)

Eat better and walks everyday.  :)

Wow that is odd. I had low potassium once and had to take these horse pills 8-P. I had to break them in half just to get them down.

when I was taking classes this summer I was using books from the public library but one prof got her knickers in a twist saying we had to use the editions she wanted us to use... 88 dollars later I had her books... One of which was out of print so it had to be special ordered for $29  I only got $11 selling books back and the one that was out of print the bookstore refused to buy back because no one EVER, taught that book!  >:(  and the book totally sucked!

Boy what a day this was,My hours were 10-6 but it was a non-busy day and the store wasn't really that hectic,I was able to take 2 breaks and a lunch at around 2pm and I finished at 6pm.

Wow, I don't know, maybe in the U.K they aren't as strict with it.  ??? 

He had a whole load of tests and has to have his urine output monitored for 4 days and then another blood test. Apart from that the doctor said it is commonly a secondary sypmtom of a more serious illness, but as he is fit and healthy and everything else came back completely normal there's probably nothing to worry about. He recommended taking potassium tablets and eating fruit again once the last blood test is done. I guess we have to wait and see what the tests show if anything.

Howard - Do not delay asking about the job!  You cannot get an inside job if you don't ask!!!  They are not just going to say "Hey Howard why don't you come inside and work (would be nice - but not going to happen), it is much easier to find someone to work indoors than outside and they already have you out there!  What is the worst that can happen?  They tell you know and you have to work outside (you are already there), or you don't ask and you continue to work outside because the right people don't know you are interested in working indoors!  Just be nice, and don't delay ;)

They try to make you buy the books because they get commissions on the sales.  Search and see if her name is in there as editorial consultant or some such thing.

my father's step brother died yesterday.  I could call him an uncle buts never been that way. He was something like 7-9 years older.
There's a whole long complicated drama to go along but I don't feel like it now.

Anyway- my father's sister (tho she's really his aunt) and her kids (all adults now) have started circling... I swear they are vultures. They did it when my grandfather (marc's father) died  and they did it when my grandmother (my dad's mom) died. They go and see what they can get before anyone else gets it  >:(

Mark was gay... and very poor. He had two nice things. A watch my dad gave him and car my dad helped him buy.

The vultures were trying to claim the car even tho Marc's partner has the right to it as the surviving loved one. My dad told him to tell them that Dad took possession of the car and sold it to the partner.  Go Dad! O0

they did that when my Great Uncle Johnny died (the man was the closest thing to a father my dad ever had).
When my dad was in Viet Nam he bought this ring and sent it Johnny. Johnny wore that ring with pride everyday... I only knew him for the year we lived in DC but he was a nice man.... he always showed me the ring and said "your daddy gave me this ring" 

The family lived in the ghettos of Washingtion DC so they never had money for stuff. My dad got out and his "sister" got out. 

Anyway- after Johnny died my dad asked for one thing. He wanted the ring back.  They said they buried him with it.  When my dad went home for his mother's funeral his "sister" came to pick him up at the airport. Her husband was wearing the ring my dad gave Johnny. My father didn't say anything to her....

The husband died two years ago and the bitch buried her husband wearing that ring. My dad was at the funeral he saw the ring on the body. 

Did I mention I HATE my dad's family!  I told him he's not allowed to move to east coast because if he died there  there would be nothing left for me to salvage. I'm not talking money.... I'm talking memories!

Sounds like my "uncle", and I use the term loosely.  The only reason he is around is because my aunt married him.  No one likes him.

Anyway, when my grandfather died he left a trust with his three daughters in charge.  My aunt was finishing nursing school, she had like a month to go.  My "uncle" took my mom aside at the funeral and told her that my aunt was worried that mom and my other aunt would do it all without her and she wouldn't get anything.  My mom immediately went to my aunt to say no...My aunt hadn't said that at all, it was all her stupid husband.  It's like he was worried he wouldn't get his share, even though he had no right to it.  The only ones in the will were my mom and her sisters. 

Sorry about the drama you are going through, snoz.  I like your dad's resolution to the car problem.  That's how it should be, the partner should get it all not the vulture family.

That's totally my mom's family. When my mom's mum died everyone came together and talked over the items and shared memories. My grandmother was in control, for the most part, until the end though  :) because there were specific things that over the years, if she noticed someone admire it- she would tape their name to the bottom of the item so they would be sure to get it. Sometimes you'd go in and admire something (because it was nice) and she'd say oh I've already promised that to so and so  ;D

She held on to a blanket for 20 years  because I thought it was super comfortable. It was too... it was ugly cuz it was 70s yellow and brown plaid on one side and orange and brown on the other. It's my favorite blanket and I break it out when I am sick cause I feel like it helps me get better  :)

Sorry about your family.  I remember my grandparents death, it caused lifelong riffs between all 7 children, my mom never even went to the auction (Everything was to be auctioned off to avoid fights) because all the other siblings were there fighting over everything.  THERE was ALOT of Stuff!  My mom is the only one that talks to all brothers and sisters, but she is also the only one that got nothing (except inheritance).  So sad

Today I am doing laundry, housework and other exciting things like that!  Tonight Elizabeth and I are going to the first of three Human Growth and Development classes the town is running.  Should be fun  ::)

I made our reservations for Florida in February.  I rented a car through Hertz with a AAA discount, then went back in to see how I would do with AARP.  WELL, AARP saved me $169 over what AAA would have gotten me.  :)  I can find a lot of ways to spend that extra cash.  ;)

This morning, we were sitting in the kitchen, reading the paper (like we do EVERY morning) when all of a sudden, ALL the smoke detectors went off. We have it hooked up if one goes off, the all go off. We searched the house and nothing-no smoke, no nothing.  ???  Scared the bejesus out of me. And NO it is NOT carbon monoxide-these are NOT carbon monoxide detectors. Just don't get it. Carlos thinks that one had a dying battery which caused it to go off-but they usually chirp. C'est bizarre.

That little co**suc**r hopefully has sung his last tune.  I noticed he peppered the audience real good, probably to take some of the heat off of the party for the "Magic Negro" song.  Laura had hear eyes out again, they are the scariest things I have ever seen.  I'll sleep better knowing they are tucked away deep in the heart of Texas, and avoid that airspace.

It is freaking cold out, but not unbearable.  Sig had to run some errands so we went out for breakfast, now he is doing some work on the cars, tune up, oil, all that.  I am going to go to the bank, cash for home heating oil is $1.98 right now.  A new BJs opened up.  Think I will see if their lunch is as good a Chez Costco    ;D

I feel like an idiot... my boss just told me that they scheduled me for training on Tuesday. I started to cry... she looked at me like I was nuts. I said I don't know where that came from...its just that Tuesday is the inaguration.

Our school district is only alloted something like 10 weather days a year - and they have already used 2 or 3 of them. They delay until the sun is up in hopes that it warms up. ::)

Okay...this morning my mom is going in to the UCLA Medical Center for radioactive iodine treatment (a follow-up treatment from her surgery last month). Once she is given the treatment, she will need to stay in isolation over the weekend...so she'll be coming home on Monday evening (the 19th). She is just fine, but needs the treatment because she'd had surgery last month. Also, for the past couple weeks, she'd been on a low-iodine diet, eating foods that contain little or no iodine, because that was required too. So on Tuesday she can begin eating normally again!

And after four days, the amount of the radioactive iodine should be dissipated to a safe level (ie, hardly any left), so my mother will be allowed to come home. However, she will still need to keep a safe distance from us over the next couple days.

I had come across some photos I took from my trip to Tulsa last summer. Then I started to think about my sisters-ALL of them and of course thinking about my sister who is no longer with us.  :\'( :\'( :\'( :\'(  I thought I was doing good. I thought I was done crying. I guess not.

my job coach said that they don't have anything right now but my supervisor knows that I'm eager to go inside so she'll keep it in mind.

My daughter had cancer of the thyroid. too, and they took the whole thing out and gave her a radioactive pill.  Additional steps...they swathed her room in plastic and, of course, we couldn't exchange stuff with her.  She will not eat beef stew to this day...that's all they gave her. ;D Probably not funny to her at that time, of course.  Thank goodness that kind of cancer doesn't spread....she blamed ME  for it, because I have leukemia.

Feeling pretty good, considering  ;D  Just not looking forward to going out and cleaning all the snow off my car.  ::)

Went out last night for a girls night out (first one in ages).  What a wild night.  We got to the bar about 7 (to avoid cover), had dinner in the restaurant part (this bar is bar, bowling alley, video arcade, grille, and has rooms for larger events).  Had a couple drinks with dinner, then we moved over to the bar area.  Had (quite) a few more, did some dancing, watch one of my friends make a fool of herself with a 23 y.o., taught them the Cupid Shuffle, danced with this 46 y.o. guy from Africa (can't remember what country specifically) who must have been told that the purpose of going to the bar was to pick someone up by 2 because he professed to having a crush on me for a long time and wanted to have some "fun" with me.  It was all I could do not to laugh in his face.  It gets better...he asked how old I am, he guessed 45 (gee thanks).  Told him 41.  THAT'S when he decided he was interested.  See, he knows my daughter (they have mutual friends) and I guess he thought I was older than him, so now that he knows I'm younger, yay (more like no, don't think so from my end).  It was weird.  I drank a lot of water before bed, which my other friend told me to do.  So even though I had the cheap vodka with my cranberry juice I don't have a hangover.

My friend just called and said the guy (the 23 y.o. she works with occasionally and who she talked into being on her co-ed volleyball team) texted her 2x last night saying he needed a cuddle buddy.  I didn't have the heart to tell her that he was probably just wasted (he had a LOT to drink).  I didn't have the heart because I know how badly she wants to hook up with him (even though she says she doesn't, he was all she talked about last night and she's the one that asked him to join us) and she was all excited that he texted.  BTW, she is 39.  ::)

Now I'm just waiting for Micah to call and say she is ready to go to the store (I need to go, too, but no sense in making 2 trips though I could have been there and back by now).

Here's another thing they do different in the U.K! My friend's wife had this treatment but came straight home. She stayed upstairs in a bedroom for 3 days with my friend leaving her food outside the bedroom door!
