Subject: Why are there no good Christmas songs any more?
Written By: Bobo on 12/25/08 at 10:43 pm
I was just thinking about this. The only Christmas song in the top 10 of the UK singles chart is by some X Factor wannabe lookalike idiot, and there are only three brand new Christmas songs in the top 40 this year.
I may be wrong, but as far as I remember, the last brand new commercially successful original Christmas-related song to my memory was "Christmas Time (Don't Let the Bells End)" by The Darkness. Anyone got any more up-to-date candidates?
Talent show contest winners notwithstanding, is there a Christmas number one actually relating to Christmas anywhere around the corner? Is it time that a well-established contemporary artist did something about it?

I'm not sure about the charts, I don't pay much attention to charts anymore...
But I heard one recently called "Twelve Days of Christmas" by Straight No Chaser that I'd never heard before. Doesn't necessarily mean it's new, but new to our radio stations. It's pretty cool, it includes little bits of other Christmas songs and even a sample of Africa by Toto.

"Christmas Time (Don't Let the Bells End)" by The Darkness.
That one and 'I Love Christmas' by Fast Food Rockers were the last two "original" Christmas songs I liked
Though I don't know if you can really call the latter one original as it samples 'Last Christmas' by Wham!

I heard fro the first time this year (I do not know the release date) Mele Kalikimaka (Christmas In Hawaii) by KT Tunstall. That is one good Christmas song.

Of course not, but Christmas actually lasts for 12 days after the 25th. So we just took down stuff om the Baptism of the Lord.

Bout 11 and 1/2...we don't put them up right away.
And as one priest said the 12 days of Christmas is NOT a countdown to the Christmas season. ;D

All you have to do is look in the stores to see what holiday is coming up! http://www.inthe00s.com/smile/11/angel2.gif
