sure, I don't find it disrespectful and people say that mainly because the typical meal of the day involves turkey and hopefully they will all be thankful for that tasty bird and for so many other things as well.

I can't can't quite grasp the concept of having a day off on Thursday, only to go back on the Friday!
If that happened in Britain, there'd be a whole load of wallahs having a very long weekend! ::)

Most people get the Friday after it off, unless they're in retail. We also have a grand old tradition of going out the Friday after Thanksgiving and hitting all the sales in the shops. I don't think it's going to be that big this year though.... :-\\

omg, I miss Charlie Browns. that used to be our favorite restaurant.
so Thanksgiving family get-together and feast is done, we just dropped off Dianes mom & dad and are now home. the fellowship with Lady Di's family was very enjoyable and the food was wonderful. now to make some tea, kick off the shoes and throw in a Christmas movie and just relax for the rest of the evening.

I am staying home, I refuse to shop on black Friday. Too many people makes me flip out. Not a pretty sight. We will be re-arranging the living room and putting up the tree.
We spent the afternoon at my aunts house. It was fun, the cousins all played a couple of games and just chatted. I had a really good time.

Happy Thanksgiving!!!!!!!
This year was really nice! I enjoyed the day with my mother and some friends. We had turkey, stuffing, green beans, broccoli, candied yams, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie, and carrot cupcakes. We had some light rain showers today, but I don't mind that much. We sure could use any rain we can get out here! :)

A Creole Thanksgiving in Brooklyn.
My brother and sister-in-law got a turducken. I was skeptical at first, because it sounded too much like turd-duckin', however, it was the best T-giving dinner I've had since I don't know when. He's a chef, so that helps. He had his own recipes for stuffing and cranberry sauce, which were also scrumptious. They also prepared a spicy Cajun soup with shrimp and crayfish. The shrimp and the stock were excellent. I'd never had crawdad before. Once you get past the exoskeleton, there just ain't much to 'em! They're awkward for soup because you can't eat the shells, so you have to fish them out and crack them on a separate plate while they're slippery from the broth. Makes a mess. Of course, they had the usual side dishes of mashed, squash and whatever greens, which I can never get too psyched over no matter what's been done with them.
The best of the desserts was a fresh capuccino cheesecake from Junior's bakery. Often imitated rarely dupicated. It's a kind of, um, cheese-based ecstasy!
And of course, there was a lot of champagne going around!

oh man, that sounds fantastic, especialy the turducken and cheesecake. I saw Paula Deen make the triple bird on the food network, lots of work goes into that. It's gotta be nice to have a chef in the family. anyways, me & Diane were talking about those today and I said I'd probably like to have a turkey and a duck cooked seperately and no need for chicken since we eat that all the time.

I've only got rudimentary kitchen survival skills.
Stuart (my stepbrother) said he was inspired to learn the culinary arts because our parents' cooking was so atrocious! He ain't lying. I'm a lifelong finicky eater because of the gut-churning fare my folks used to cook up! He's not working as a chef right now because of ongoing knee problems. I didn't realize until he started telling me stories about the profession how vicious and relentless the competition and the pace gets both outside and inside the kitchen. There is some truth represented on those "Top Chef" shows. The profession has more in common with ER medicine and pro-ball than it does cooking in your own home. If you're not prepared to run about frantically every shift with everybody yelling at you, you're going to burn out. Some people can't stand the cut-throat competition (if you're the saucier, the salad prep guy might want your position, so he's hoping to make you look bad in front of the head chef, etc.) and sometimes it's physiological impediments, as it was with Stu. I'm hoping he'll be able to ply his trade again. Maybe his novel will get published and be a big hit...never say never!

We cooked some butternut squash and brought it to our feast, which was at my great-aunt's house this year. We also bought a pumpkin pie from Costco earlier this week and brought that along. Altogether, there were 10 of us.

Karen it's a salad/dessert. Not really sure how to explain it. I'm on my phone so I can't get a pic for you. Well I could but it's not as easy as from the computer. I'm sure one of my friends can post a pic. I will admit it doesn't look that appetizing. In my opinion it looks like something you might orally repair in a toilet but it tastes amazing.
I've had the receipt Howard posted. I think it's a little over indulgent. The ambrosia I had had mini marshmallows, mandarin oranges, coconut shredded, and whipped cream actually I think it was whipped heavy cream. It's a different consistency than cool whip or redi whip.
Anyway it was amazing
