Subject: The Godfather: Best Film Of All Time?
Written By: bookmistress4ever on 09/25/08 at 12:49 am
The Godfather has topped the U.K.'s Empire magazine's list of the top 500 films of all time.
Raiders of the Lost Ark came in at No 2, followed by The Empire Strikes Back, Shawshank Redemption and Jaws.
The list was compiled from a vote by 150 directors, 50 film critics and more than 10,000 members of the public. A report about the Empire poll appearing on the BBC's website begins: "Well at least it wasn't Citizen Kane again."
What do you think?

Wow the Godfather #1......That has been playing a lot (really too much) lately on TV
Great film but since the "Sopranos" came along The Godfather seems so tame!
The #2 choice is a ???? surprise , but the masses have spoken.....Still a better movie than "return of the Jedi"
or Muppet's in space as I call it ;D..."Oooh Use The Force.....Woka woka"
Frank Oz physically died of embarrassment from that one!

I would agree that The Godfather and The Shawshank Redemption should be in the top 10, but I would pick The Godfather II as the top film, starring Robert DeNiro as a young Vito Corleone...ahh, but then again, it's a tough one, they're both so good. It's really a matter of opinion and personal tastes.

I only have it on VHS. I would go as far as to say it's a must see, both 1 & 2

I think the first 2 films cover all that's needed. the 3rd has Andy Garcia and he's a good actor and all, but I don't like the 3rd. the first two are masterpieces and needed no encore.

Indiana Jones lives up to it's name, but Temple Of Doom was dire.

the movie did get a little too campy but the ride at Disneyland named after the movie is most excellent

For people who commit small crimes against the state.......
Rather than jail time at the taxpayers expense...
They should be forced to watch .Godfather part 3 on a continuous loop for 1 week
They will never step out of line again!!!!
( just to be fair to them the gun & 1 cartridge will be issued)
Coppola tried to milk the cow too much & killed it on the 3rd try! :\'(

I bear that in mind when I eventually view it.

that's a good vivid description. ;D 1 and 2 are superb, and are deserving of top movie list, but weird thing is, two of my best friends really like the third one too. ??? each to his own.

I did see that on the list, although it was pretty far down and alot of "lesser quality" movies that I'd have not put on the list came above it. Oh well, to each his own, I guess.
There are alot of movies on the list that I have not heard of (nor obviously seen). I like that it did include things from all decades (not just ones that have been out in the last year or two.)
(Still looking to see if "Snakes on a plane" made the list. ;D

Don't even bother it was terrible, although I loved 1&2. I bought hubby the box set for Christmas a while ago.
