Subject: Firefox users: anyone else having problems?

Written By: ChrisBodilyTM on 09/01/08 at 6:35 pm

I just recently updated to the latest version of Firefox, and now I can't even get it to open anymore.  http://www.inthe00s.com/smile/01/awm2.gif I searched online to see if anyone else has had these problems, and I checked my firewalls and whatever and security settings, .... long story short, I am still stumped.  :-\\ I haven't been on Firefox for a while, so I'm using RealPlayer as my browser.  :P

Can anybody please offer me soem advice? Thank you.  :)

why don't you uninstall it and run the older version?

Didn't work.  :-\\ I went back and re-installed FF3 and checked my firewall settings, etc. Still not working. I double-click the icon, I push my Internet shortcut button on my keyboard, I run in safe-mode, I uninstall and re-install till the computer explodes, I lose my marbles  ::), nothing works.  :\'( I'm really frustrated right now and have no idea how to fix the problem, or even if it can be fixed.

This had never happened before until I downloaded this version. This never happened to me when they upgraded me to version 2.0, but it's happening now on version 3.0...? It was a good browser and I'm going to kind of miss it if I can't correct this problem.

If anybody else has any tips and tricks, feel free to reply. Thanks in advance.  :)

:o I tried ff3 but ran into problems as well........
It doesn't install in the Add/Remove programs file so after downloading FF3 another 3 times did I finally get it to GO AWAY!.......I went back to FF2.....

try reinstalling FF3 a few more times till you can get it into a file you can delete it....
as bad as Firefox 3 was it was still 10 times better than IE7
You may loose some bookmarks so keep a record of what you got..
IE is a Manic program that is stuffed full of bugs & spam...
Firefox doesn't allow the IE problems to take control of your system!
IE is like surfing with the Flinstones!

Why Firefox released version 3 without making it bulletproof is beyond me ...
From vista's point you can make money from updates so putting out a known bad program isn't such a bad thing.....But Firefox is free!??!(I think the designer of "new Coke" found a job at Firefox)

Try reinstalling it again & again till you can get a handle on a uninstall link!
It took me over a week to resolve my dilemma

I think you'll need a Firefox messageboard for troubleshooting.  I don't know enough about what the problem is from your description.  Which OS, what the computer is, how much memory, etc.

Does it just freeze, is the task still running?

Oddly enough, I run all three browsers (Safari, Opera and Firefox) on this Mac, and while Safari and Opera have been running fine ever since I installed both of them (coming on to four years now for Safari...) Firefox has indeed stopped being functional. Quite strange.

Hmm... could be a number of things.

I went to the Mozilla Support pages and found this for you: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Firefox+will+not+start

Don't know if it will be much help or if you will even be able to pull that page up in realplayer....
PC or Mac?
Could be other applicatiuons you are running blocking ff3 as well.

Good luck

I got the touble fixed today!
go through this
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Preferences_not_saved

there is a small file that if you delete it & restart firefox it works like it should!
Create a profile & you should be good to go......We tried IE7 but its a dawg by comparison!
Why Mozilla didn't forsee this duplicate file & have it disappear when the new one installs is beyond me!
Too many chiefs & not enough indians I guess!
check these sites as well

http://www.newbie.org/firefox/

You must create a profile & your good to go!!! ;D ;D ;D

or try this page
http://www.seasonsecurity.com/mozilla-firefox-bookmarks-keep-disappearing-why-62551

scroll down till you find this

1) Open up Firefox and type ‘about:config’ into the location bar (address bar). You’ll get a warning, but just click ahead.

2) In the Filter bar, type ‘browser.places’

3) You’ll get a list of results that contain ‘browser.places’. Right-click down the list and select ‘Reset’.

After all it is free....Microsoft builds defects into the software to get the consumer to buy add ons..
