Having a lazy morning searching eBay for vintage glass lightfittings, gonna meet me friend at 13 o'clock to go for a walk to the beach, maybe go to the gym afterwards? then come home and have a nice meal before an early bedtime (with Horlicks) ::) for an early am start,
ooh I'm such a well disciplined girl, or should that be 'girl with no 'life' to speak of?'
I have caught a lousy stinking cold from him at work who constantly stinks of cigerettes, that same bloke also had a cold while we up in Edinburgh
>:(
Best thing is to try to stay away from that guy, if possible. I know I wouldn't wanna be around someone like that. :P

Nothing too exciting to report.
Hubby went grocery shopping by himself, without a list and still got nearly everything we needed to replace what went bad in the fridge! I'm so proud.
I paid bills. Hooray. Got the usual dishes to do, may get back to packing boxes if I get my second wind.
My bee sting in my stomach from 4 days ago is itching like crazy, so it must be healing. My kitten keeps scratching my fingers so they seem to be in a constant state of ouch. ::)
Got a screw in my tire yesterday (Where's that Sir Billzy, I have a bone to pick with him!) ;D So we took it and got it patched.
Some people STILL don't have electricity, those poor souls! I was so happy that I had electric back after 36 hours that I must have written 3 song parodies about getting my electricity back. ;D
Otherwise feeling a little blah, my sinuses are starting to fill up, I can just feel them now. Maybe if I take some medicine I can catch it before it gets too bad.

I had a dream about the pair of you last night! You both turned up at a party I was holding. ;D
I would LOVE for that dream to come true.
As for us, Carlos has another dentist appointment :P this time to fill a cavity. 8-P 8-P 8-P After he gets home, we are off to Subway to pick up sandwiches and then off to an auction. There is a roll top desk that I am in interested in (well, at least the photos look good-I will see how it looks up close and personal as to if I want to place a bid on it or not).

Some of you might have noticed that I have not been posting a great deal on here anymore. It is not because I hate you or anything. :)
Last week, I pretty much had a series of panic attacks. They started on Monday, and got to the point where I didn't want to do anything, see anyone, or even go outside. I lost a total of 14 pounds in one week. I was crying a lot, and I'm sure I scared Jason :\'(. It culminated with me going to the ER on Saturday night because I could not handle it anymore. I was in the ER for the better part of five hours, getting a psych evaluation and watching someone die (that's another story for another time). I had to be babysat because I was considered a suicide risk. I was released that night because even though I wasn't in the best frame of mind, I wasn't insane enough to be admitted. The psychiatrist on duty at the time also gave me a list of mental health centers to call.
Monday I went to my regular doctor and told her everything that had gone on. Let me just say that I absolutely ADORE my doctor. She listened to me, hugged me, and then we discussed various options. She didn't just push drugs on me. She got me another list of more mental health centers, told me about the various drugs that were out there if *I* wanted to try them, and when I said yes to trying some, she recommended the best ones, explained the side effects, and gave me the smallest doses to start out. She also recommended the Anxiety & Phobia Workbook. I go to see her again in three weeks to see if the meds are helping and how I am doing.
So I am now on Paxil and Xanax. The Xanax is only for when I feel a major panic attack coming on and the Paxil is something I have to take every day. It is making me feel foggy, but I believe that is because I'm still not eating a lot and my body is adjusting to it all.
I'm slowly starting to get back into my regular routine again, but it is very difficult. There may be times that I don't post on here or I go post crazy. I am writing this because I've known a lot of you for a long time, and I know that you guys are there whenever anything bad happens, even if we have had disagreements in the past. I also want it to be known that if you ever feel like this or feel depressed, PLEASE go to the doctor. Don't hold it in.
And just...pray for me, keep me in your thoughts, whatever. This is something I have never dealt with before, and at times I feel very scared.
Thank you.

Aw Jess http://www.inthe00s.com/smile/11/3some.gif
I hope the meds start working properly soon. I've heard that it can take a little while to get the medication/dosage right.
Please try and look after yourself and start eating properly. If you can't face cooking (who can?) then look at something like those Ensure drinks to keep the vitamins, protein and calories coming in.

I hope you get better soon, Jessica. I just had an anxiety attack some years ago and passed out just from that. So I can imagine yours!!! Luckily, I ended up in the hospital and am taking a low dose of medicine for it.

you've got my attention and sympathy Jess. as a sufferer of Panic disorder/anxiety disease for many years (12), with a side order of depression. I can relate. I understand the trips to ER and weird thing is they never found any physical problem that was threatening, but the anxiety/panic can be crippling. It's been about 8 years since i suffered severe ones so I've made huge progress. I am not an expert, but I wouldn't take the paxil. I tried it and that stuff is weird and the side effects are bizzare. i would just stick to the xanax. but you should follow Dr.'s directions. one more thing and this may be hard, but you shouldn't be drinking alcohol while using these meds to overcome your situation. they kind of negate each other. good luck, you're in my prayers 8)

Mike, we're going to see how the Paxil and Xanax go. Chances are it will probably be switched around when I go back on October 3rd. I also gave up drinking a while ago, which is good since I'm not supposed to with these meds. :D I have two small bottles of sake and a half bottle of Long Island ice tea in my refrigerator. The former have been sitting in there for two weeks (hardly touched) and the latter has been in there for the better part of two months. It just doesn't taste right to me anymore. :P
I'm going to try therapy as soon as I can locate and click with a good one. Even my doctor said that that might take awhile because you don't always automatically hit it off with the first person you see. She's a very wise woman.

I am feeling a bit...um...I'm not too sure. Last night after we got home from the auction (which we didn't get anything we went for but we did get several bargains-but that is an entirely different story), I checked our messages and there was one from a former friend asking us if she could use us as a reference on job applications.
It happened 5 years ago when I was still volunteering at the food shelf and she was the director. We were friends, got along great, worked great together, etc. etc. Then she started seeing this guy. This guy was not what I would refer to as a "good dude"-in fact, far from it. I did some digging on this guy and found out that he is a convicted sex offender. I confronted my friend with the information I found (I got his public records as proof). I was trying to protect my friend. She had a fit that I would do such a thing-like looking into my friend's well being? ??? Anyway, apparently he had already told her about the conviction and it seems like the only thing he lied to her about was his age (I wonder). I think what really pissed me off was that she brought this guy to our wedding after I told her that I didn't want him there-and then she left the reception without even saying good-bye which, in my eyes is totally rude.
Then, a few weeks later, she calls me and asks if I consider us friends. I said yes and she said that she didn't-not after what I did. I was thinking it was because I got a copy of her his records. It wasn't until later that I found out what it was that I supposedly had done. He worked at a local restaurant that I ate at every week and I was very friendly with all the staff/owners. I found out that he quit his job but told her that he was fired because I told the management about his record. Instead of confronting me with this, she just assumed he was telling her the truth. The real kicker was the fact that she lost her job due to this idiot because he was constantly in the office with her. I made a comment about him always being there. She said something about me and Charlie doing things together. I looked around and said, "Do you see Charlie here?" Well, he got what he wanted, to distance her from me because I was talking sense to her. She is still with this idiot and now they have a kid together. ::)
I have run into her from time to time and she would hug me as if nothing happened. So now I'm in this dilemma, do I help her out or not? When it comes to work, I could say a lot of good things about her as well as a lot of not-so good things about her.
Of course the real issue here is that I am still hurt by what she did-and she never once apologized to me. Of course she may not realize that the idiot she is with lied to her about me. If I confront her with it, it may just bring up the issue of "him or me" that was settled 5 years ago (she picked him).

Today would have been my mum's 68th birthday. My dad and my brothers are getting together today to scatter mum's ashes. Dad is having a memorial made which he is hoping will be in place by Christmas.
Hope you feel better Karen. :)

so what are you gonna do Cat? here's my take/opinion on this matter of what you should do about her request to use you as a reference, since you asked :) If it were me, based on how she's been, things she's said, I'd have no problem declining being a reference and say to her that at one time you were fairly close friends but you've gone your seperate ways and maybe she should ask someone who she's more closely connected to at the present time. or if you don't like that, just tell her that Carlos would rather you didn't ;D good luck

I'll second this, you haven't worked with her for 5 years so surely someone more recent would be a better idea, for all you know her whole work ethic could have changed in that time.

Yes it did thanks. I rang my dad to speak to him about how it all went. He said the weather was nice and bright.
My brothers and their wives were also there. (I misunderstood the process I think :-\\ and thought the ashes were scattered not put in a little casket to be buried.) Anyway it turns out the plot is somewhere near where my grandma's (mum's mum) ashes are buried which my dad liked. He put a birthday card in with the casket. Someone from the funeral parlour was there to say prayers and read a poem or two. This is the one my dad chose.
Death is nothing at all
Death is nothing at all.
I have only slipped away into the next room.
I am I and you are you,
whatever we were to each other, that we still are.
Call me by my old familiar name,
Speak to me in the easy way which you always used.
Put no difference in your tone,
wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow,
laugh as we always laughed
at the little jokes we enjoyed together.
Pray smile, think of me, pray for me.
Let my name be ever the household word
that it always was.
Let it be spoken without effort,
without the trace of a shadow in it.
Life means all that it ever meant,
it is the same as it ever was.
There is unbroken continuity,
why should I be out of mind
because I am out of sight?
I am waiting for you
somewhere very near
just around the corner.
All is well.

I just spoke to a lady from Food Services about school meals. Both my children said that the server was insisting they took a carton of milk every day. Elizabeth never drinks milk so was taking a bottle of water because she was told she must take a drink. I resented paying for something I was already giving her so I phoned.
Turns out that the town gets a 'refund' from the state for each meal they sell but the rules say it must include a drink. If you don't buy a drink they don't get the money and so charge the meal differently. It works out cheaper for me and the town food services if my daughter takes a carton of milk and throws it in the bin! Isn't that crazy?!
I just booked a holiday for next April. We got some deal through Hilton Rewards to stay in Orlando (near Seaworld) for $99 each per night. All we have to do is sit through a presentation about timeshares (or whatever they call them now).

I know what you mean about sitting through a presentation about timeshares. We are going to do that this coming Monday. We get $50 in gas (and the place is only about 20 miles from here), $2000 worth of "stuff" from a website (probably a bunch of cheapo Chinese junk ::) ) and a trip to Mystic Seaport. We did another one several years ago. We just go for the freebie stuff. :D ;D ;D ;D

Man...take a couple days off! ::)
Patty: I was totally thinking of you when I saw the hurricane was heading your way. Glad things are better now. Funny I have this visual of you sitting at the library computer while hubby was running all those errands. ;D Hey as long as you have your priorities straight sister!
BTW- paycheck after next I think I am totally investing in two of those back up batteries they sell at Costco. One for my TV and the other for my fridge....wait maybe 3 so I can put one on my computer ;D
in the meantime I plan on charging my video ipod, my laptop and my portable dvd player. That would give me about 18hrs of entertainment. ;D
Jess: Sorry to hear your news :( Hope the meds help. I'm pulling for you!
Karen: I know how much pain you feel and I feel for you. The poem your dad read was lovely tho.
Philip: Sorry you've been ill
Howie: Glad the toenail is growing back
Mike: Hope Julie's okay I didn't see the update but I had to go through a lot of posts.
Cat: That chick is crazy. The vengeful side of me says "Yeah be her reference ;) Then totally screw her ;D " on the other hand... is it really worth the energy? It almost seems like a good time to open that dialogue and ask the question "After the way we you left things- why on earth would you want to use me as a reference? A while back you said you don't consider me a friend." Maybe some the truths she hasn't heard will come to light and she will finally say those words you long to hear... you know "I'm sorry" or "you were right"
BTW is that Mystic CT? Go have some pizza will for me will ya? and ask them if it's Goat Cheese ;D

and again I forgot to talk about me! ::)
I started cleaning my apt. Couldn't finish because I went into re-decorator mode and turned the damn thing upside down.
I had a brilliant plan to move some the furniture from bedroom to living room. Only- my living room TV is too big (its a 15 year old 31" Panasonic so that puppy is huge) and now it's sitting in the middle of the room because it didn't fit where I wanted it to.
Now I've decided I want a 26" LCD to the tune of $450 (which I don't have) I'm wondering if I can make some money in a garage sale but that seems like a lot of work. And my landlady is a little weird. She's afraid people will come to the house and want to steal her 1980s decor. ::)
I got B+ in both classes YAY ME! considering how hard I was killing myself I totally earned them...well almost totally.
I gave a talk today for the Community Service Officers of our department. Their all students, there were about 65 of them- most of home I didn't know. I sat through 2 other talks (to avoid work) and each speaker rec'd a smattering of applause but I got resounding applause so I think it went well. It probably helped that I played them some fun 911 audio...like the woman who wanted her hamburger enforced ;D and the other one (a spoof) about the guy getting bit in the neck by a deer. Still they laughed where I wanted them to. They asked lots of questions and they didn't seem bored by what I was saying. Yay me again!

gosh I just don't know what I feel like any more. I guess I don't really want to play in the game room. I think I want to write and submit parodies, but not really. If I really wanted Something done with my garden now or years ago I would have done it. Come to think of it I've always been a person that never wanted anything. Is that necessarily wrong or lazy or both?. I only know what seems to be depressions from what my mom got me into. I did take Celexa for a Chemical balance after my brain Tumor for a short time, but I think it has little if anything to do with me being dysfunctionally raised. Anyway if you have any parody requests or anything like that I'll be happy to try and do it for you. I think I was born to take pain and serve.

thanks Tamarra. sadly, she's still sufffering with prolonged nausea and it breaks my heart to see her miserable :( she's seen her doctor a couple of times, had several blood tests done, and they all came back negative so it's a bit of a mystery. she had a better day today. the medication may be starting to work. I hope she gets better real soon. thanks for your concern.
you've been a busy woman yourself, redeco'ng the house and all the other things. and way to go on your grades. nice work. were you nervous when you got up to speak? did anyone video the event?
...as for me, I'm going to have a sleep study done tomorrow night at the medical sleep center in Walnut Creek. I will be spending the night there so they can hook me up with electrodes and see if I have any form of sleep apnea or other sleep disorder. I'll come home Sunday morning so I won't be online tomorrow night.

Karma to boost your ego even further. ;) On the other thand: it's a well deserved karma.
gosh I just don't know what I feel like any more. I think I was born to take pain and serve.
serving others is a gift Ann and it's kind of you to offer your time and efforts to us. I hope you get to feeling good, & balanced real soon.
I agree with Mike on the serving part, but taking pain.. Not good. No-one should take sheesh of any kind or in any form. You don't want to take pain, do you? ??? 'Cause that's just messed up.
Speaking of things you want (or don't want)... I don't think it's necessarily wrong or lazy to not want anything. On a good day, that makes you feel very unselfish, and on a bad day you just feel lazy or totally depressed. I've lived with that for nearly 42 years, and I'm still around. I'm not taking any drugs for it (though I probably could), and therapy has helped me cope with the depressive side.
Well, that wasn't very helpful, was it? :-\\

There's not much you can do about taking sheesh since the day you were born. The good thing is I can handle anything these days without it really bothering me. The only time I feel like I'm lazy or wrong is when my mom gives me sheesh about it. I only have my mothers negitive veiwpoint on everything.
That was helpful

Let me know if you go to Mystic - we haven't been there yet.
Sure will. Maybe I can also talking "Dawg" into going to, she lives down that way.
I haven't called her back. I still don't know what to say. :-\\
Somehow, I don't quite associate Mystic with pizza.

As for me, my sister sent me a link to a nifty neat auction site-NO FEES!!!! http://wensy.com Check it out!
I figured what the hell so I am going to be listing items today. NO MORE GREEDBAY!!!!! The kicker is, people are selling. So for all you who are looking for a "greedbay" alternative, this one is it.

Maybe your daughter can give the milk to someone else?
I know what you mean about sitting through a presentation about timeshares. We are going to do that this coming Monday. We get $50 in gas (and the place is only about 20 miles from here), $2000 worth of "stuff" from a website (probably a bunch of cheapo Chinese junk ::) ) and a trip to Mystic Seaport. We did another one several years ago. We just go for the freebie stuff. :D ;D ;D ;D
Cat
I have been to Mystic Seaport and it was very interesting. We went a bit off season so some of the exhibits were closed but it was still very good. They had an Amistad exhibit as well, I know you will be happy to see that. Mystic Pizza wasn't all that good, though. Too wrapped up in themselves because of the movie, which I haven't seen, by the way.

Henry Scott Holland 1847-1918
Canon of St Paul's Cathedral
Karen......
My heart goes out to you Girl.
I copied the poem as well, going to use it in the shadowbox I bought for my Aunt's Ashes.
karma +1

We have had the most beautiful weather this weekend after no sun for months it's bliss.
I was out in the garden most of yesterday and plan to do the same today. First I have to make an apple, cider and sultana cake. I spotted the recipe in one of my Mum's magazines so she is getting it back with a hole where I clipped it out! ;D
I'm going to do a roast for dinner because I haven't cooked one for ages.

Been trying to figure out what is wrong with this (*&^%$ computer. Uninstalled programs, reinstalled programs, ran the volume check, defrag, etc. etc. I finally figured it out. It is called VISTA!!! One program I have been trying to run wasn't exactly vista compatible. I discovered there were patches-downloaded them and what do you know, the program is working. Now, I have to figure out if there are patches to these other programs or if it is worth it just to buy a new program (they are card making programs and they were something $5 each). Now I just have to figure out why I can't send email. Tomorrow, I will have to place a call to Comcast. Since getting Comcast, we have placed I don't know how many calls to them-the first one was about half hour after the tech left after installing the bloody thing. So far, I'm not exactly impressed.

As for me: I've been out of town for the better part of two days (you did notice my absence, didn't you...? ::)). We've had a little outing with the company I work with because of its 75-year anniversary. Went to the isle of Texel and had a blast. I've spent more time on a bicycle than I've ever done in the past two or three years. ;D There were various activities and the group (colleagues and their partners, some 75 men in total) was split up at various occasions in various formations. I've done some pretty silly games, and there was some controversy about the result of one of the games...but at least we (the group I was in) won on another occasion.
The weather was most excellent (sunny and dry - I got totally sunburnt), the food was available in abundance and of excellent quality, and the accommodations were splendid as well. So, in all - I'm looking forward to the 100-year anniversary! :)
Oh yeah, I was totally knackered when I got back home too. Spent the next six hours sleeping...

On top of that, how can you claim to be a re-enactor if you are drinking Coca Cola and eating Doritos, and Grant was sitting with his wife offering tea and cake! ::)

sorry to hear that. something I've always wondered. If you don't mind my asking.
In the beginning stages, as I understand it, there are moments where the person actually has lucid moments but are they aware of what going on or what happened when they weren't lucid before? or am I just wrong about the lucidity in the beginning?

I just performed 19 songs at a concert - my first for nearly six months. One of the guys who was there is the boyfriend of one of my best female friends, and he's an awesome musician who I respect above almost all others - and he complimented me on my performances.
Makes me feel so much better about my music.
Way to go! Congrats to you! 8)
Read a sad story in this morning's paper. It seems that the president of the college's wife (and a former teacher of mine) is diagnosed with Alzheimers. It is so sad because she is young (58). They are our host/hostess for the Christmas party we got to every year.

My mom was 59 when she was diagnosed with it too.
Wow, that's awful! I'm so sorry! So young to have such a horrible disease. :\'(

The mother of a friend of mine was diagnosed with it at that age. It was very sad, she was the nicest person. They also told my friend that she she should be checked periodically because it was early onset ran in the family. :(

sorry to hear that. something I've always wondered. If you don't mind my asking.
In the beginning stages, as I understand it, there are moments where the person actually has lucid moments but are they aware of what going on or what happened when they weren't lucid before? or am I just wrong about the lucidity in the beginning?
Well, I'm by no means even very fluent in the disease, mom has been on medicine for about a year, but was only "officially" diagnosed this past May. I'm not a big fan of her doctor because he's done other things that, at the least, has not been very communicative. He diagnosed her with diabetes and put her on pills. She was on them for awhile, but had some intestinal side-effects, so he took her off of them but didn't put her on anything else. Just because one pill doesn't work, there are others! grrrrrrr. She asked if he would prescribe testing strips for her so that her insurance would pay for it, but the doctor told her "You don't need to test your blood sugar." ::) But then, my mom gets confused or forgets things so who knows what the doctor actually did or said. She doesn't always tell me everything, unfortunately.
Mom is still pretty normal, mental-wise. Mom still is working, she is a maid for a big health clinic. It's part-time in the evenings, and she tells me stories about her forgetting where she put her purse or temporarily losing the key to the office at work. When she tells me stories, she sometimes forgets names or details.
It's kind of heartbreaking actually. I'm not really sure I have the strength for this, because she is really going to need alot of support in the coming years. That is also pretty much why I wanted to get this house, because she said she wouldn't object to moving in with us when the time came. My dad and brother aren't going to want or be able to take care of her. Dad and she have fought for nearly all my life, and I think they are together for convenience sake. My brother has his own issues, has never lived away from home (and he's 35) and is barely enough to be able to take care of himself (even though he has held the same job at the grocery store for 20 years.) I already know that when my parents die, they keep telling me that I will have to help my brother in life too.
My hubby has been awesome about this. He is trying to be supportive of me while I try to sort everything out and make plans for the future (which has never been my strong point.) I've always been one to deal with things every day as they come along.
Sorry, didn't mean for this to turn into a novel, but just have a bit of an emotional night tonight.

A suggestion I would make would be to start looking now for a good nursing home that is close by. If you wait until you need one you may have to take whatever is available and some of them are just awful. Find out how long the waiting list is, although unpredictable they can give a rough estimate. Also have as much as possible taken out of her name while she is still competent. The state takes just about everything when she is declared. Their are some decent websites for nursing homes, but site visits mean a lot more. It's hard, but don't let it wait.

Henry Scott Holland 1847-1918
Canon of St Paul's Cathedral
This is such an awesome post, that I stole the poem and created a myspace layout with it. I am using it in honor of my late Aunt Annie. Today is her 60th birthday. :\'(

Yes, I too have experienced this type of Gestapo attitude. When I did a managerial training course for a large variety goods chain (many years ago) we had to have a daily dated 'check seal' on all our pens, pencils etc that was actually checked on our way out (they checked all bags). By the end of the course there was a wad of papaer stuck to each item.....
Apparently, many goods walked out the store with the staff's 'sticky fingers' previously. :o The other thing the surprized me was that all breakages were thrown out/destroyed rather than given to charity etc (even slightly tarnished...but still working goods)...

I think I'll be okay as long as I keep it away from My orange tree and perhaps not too close to the Lantana so as not to incourage butterflies to try it in case it's harmful to them. I ought to look it up because behind the lantana was where I was going to put it. I did get two butterfly weed plants and the little skippers have already landed on it and started drinking.

I was looking up my potato bush and although harmful to a dog or something it probably wouldn't kill a butterfly if they tried one. A lot of them host on plants that are poisonus. I'm still thinking about planting them somewhere else and save the space behind the Lantana for a Butterfly Bush or two.

Sorry, I did screw up on that. The show Life is more than just an ex-cop ex con thing. It is wicked cool. The detective rejoins the force after 12 years in the big house and tracks down the people who did it, but now he has to find out who set him up. The cool part is he got a settlement and has lots of money, the other cops wants him gone because they don't trust him, and he got into all this zen mysticism while getting beat up by the cons in jail. He relates as much to the cons as the cops(maybe more). I highly recommend watching an episode, see what you think. I haven't liked a show this much in....a longlonglonglong time.

all the girls and boys around start school
and people go work stopping being cool
we all leave till next year the warm beach.
The other hand at many a little towns
we have feast and fiestas to go around
the main thing they have is big bulls run
and maybe someone could feel their horns
while making the runs if they run too slow

This started about a week ago. I didn't want to have to deal with it (have been dealing with other computer problems for the past week or so) so my wonderful husband called the server. Of course he really doesn't know what they are talking about so he hands the phone to me to deal with it. After talking with them, plugging in some #s, then I can't RECEIVE email either and the person (who speaks with an American accent which was surprising to me) tells me that they can't help and call Dell. I hate calling Dell because I NEVER speak with some who doesn't have an accent and half the time it is very hard to understand and half the time they are just reading from a script and don't know wtf they are doing anyway. The person from the server switches me to Dell but Dell cuts me off and an automated voice tells me that I need to call the 800 # back (which I don't know which 800 it is because I was transferred). So I figured that I would try the on-line chat. At least I don't have to deal with not understanding someone's accent. Well, I got the wrong dept. and the person was going to switch me but I was told that the dept. I need does not have an on-line chat and I need to call. So, after spending I don't know how long on this, I STILL can't send email!
AAAAUUUUUUGGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!

I haven't liked a show this much in....a longlonglonglong time.
ok...thanks for the description; it's a show that I had never heard of. :) Glad you enjoyed it.
Went to the union hall Monday and it was full to the gills. I am one of the lucky ones, I have my pension/benefit hours, but many there don't. It will be a hard road for some if the don't get them by the end of the year. Since they will be put out to work first in an effort to get them their hours, I may not see much until the New Year. It doesn't look like much is going to turn up given the economy. :(
sounds pretty sad; things like that shouldn't have to happen :-two of us are looking for work...my mom and me.

By the way, my mom was laid off from her job last month and has been searching for new places to work, but has come up short. :-\\ See, she got a new boss, who began changing everything around, and had to cut lotsa jobs, which included my mother's. (It's a long, ugly story; I'm not gonna go into all the gorey details.) So now two of us are looking for work...my mom and me.
Good luck to both of you. I am lucky to be in a union, we have business agents who handle looking for work for us. I wouldn't know how to look anymore. My friends who have office jobs or work in retail are having a very tough time of it. It's just not right.

Well, for me, lately I have been working with a job coach to get prepared for job searches, interviews, and all that. I was supposed to have an appointment with my job coach this past Monday but it had to be cancelled at the last second, since my job coach was under the weather. :( So now my new appointment is for next Wednesday, October the 1st; apparently nothing sooner was available. :-\\ My goal is to have something before the end of the year.

The same goes for me too; it seems anytime I like a certain program, it gets dumped within a year. Two such shows were sitcoms on CBS: "The Class" (2006-07), and "Courting Alex" (canned after only eight episodes in early 2006...d@mn that Amazing Race!) >:(

My cousin had a heart attack this past weekend, dad called me to tell me last night. She is ok (as much as you can be ok having just had a heart attack). I talked to her for about 5 minutes on the phone. You don't know what to say to people in situations like that. Hey cousin, I'm glad you're not dead and I hope you take better care of yourself, just doesn't seem appropriate somehow. ::) ;D She is my little brother's age (35) (4 years younger then me). She isn't overly obese, (I'm alot bigger then she is) although she does smoke and I never have. It's weird the factors that go into things. It's really made me take a step back and look at my life (not that I haven't already done that) but...anyway.
I saw her July 4th at my mom's picnic/party. We're not as close as we used to be. I guess that is the same way with all of my family. Perhaps now that I'm moving closer in a couple weeks time, I'll be able to develop my familial relationships once again.
In other news, I went to my last doctor's appointment (since I am moving far away, I'll have to get a new doctor/hospital where I am moving to). It was bittersweet for me. I really liked this doctor that I had. Even though he is in his last year of residency, he's been my primary doctor for the past 4 years. He even had been my doctor when I was in the hospital 3 years ago. I wanted to let him know that I appreciate his attitude towards me. He has really listened to me, and while the weight issue was gently reminded of me (as I've known my whole life), it wasn't harped upon, and every success or failure in that respect was addressed. So anyway, today I found out that I had lost 11 pounds since 2 months ago (my last appointment). That is good news. I am generally healthy otherwise, well other then the diabetes and slightly elevated cholesterol and blood pressure (which I am on medication for.) Weight has alot to do with my problems and I am trying to get my head around that and work in my mindset with little goals to accomplish so that the total overall goal of such an amount to lose isn't too overwhelming and I don't give up. I know that the move will give me more exercise. Pittsburgh is all steep hills and lots of steps, so I'm going to be getting exercise whether I want to be or not. ;D There is a nice little park right up the street (and naturally up some hills (and it's ON a hill) so that'll be nice to walk to/in when I get there.)

Woo Hoo... 11 lbs is awesome!!! Way to go! I wish you were moving here then we could start walking together! I need motivation now that I'm not going to classes 4 days a week. As it is I've fallen into my old routine of working too much. Since class has been out 9/12 I've only had 3 days off that's not counting tomorrow which is the only day I have off this week.

My condolences to you and Carlos and may the dear lady rest in peace.
I'm feeling better, although I just played merry hell getting Jason his Halloween costume. He chose it and no other costume would do after he saw it. He watches this show called Super Why! It's an educational show on PBS (http://pbskids.org/superwhy/#) that is about books and solving problems. He loves it and when we were looking at costumes, he saw the main character costume and was just freaking all over it. So I was waiting for one place to get them in stock and they sold out like within five minutes. I just spent the better part of an hour scouring every costume site trying to find the damned thing. I finally came across a place that had ONE in stock. I didn't think this show was so popular.
So now he'll be Super Why for Halloween and Mommy will stay sane for another day. :D

Mom was "Rosie the riveter" during WWII after getting engaged to Dad, and while he was in Europe getting ready for D Day. Dona Leila, after whom my youngest is named, was doing her part on the home front in PR. so we had to take Julie for emergency treatment at the hospital today in Walunt Creek. She's been suffereing from prolonged nausea for weeks to months now, and could hardly eat or drink, and she called me at work to see if I could come get her after her mid-term tests today, so naturally I advised my boss I needed to go and Diane was at her wits end what to do, so I suggested the hospital. they gave her an IV for dehydration, did an ultrasound, and blood tests and she looks normal, just something that will have to run it's course, but they prescribed different medication for the nausea and anxiety so she can sleep. hopefully it helps. she so wants to eat and enjoy food again. poor thing :(

She's been suffereing from prolonged nausea for weeks to months now, and could hardly eat or drink, and she called me at work to see if I could come get her after her mid-term tests today, so naturally I advised my boss I needed to go and Diane was at her wits end what to do, so I suggested the hospital. they gave her an IV for dehydration, did an ultrasound, and blood tests and she looks normal, just something that will have to run it's course, but they prescribed different medication for the nausea and anxiety so she can sleep. hopefully it helps. she so wants to eat and enjoy food again. poor thing :(
Maybe it's stress-related. Mid-terms have just happened, after all!
... You know, like school has been building on her or something.

HI all. I know I'm a stranger here, but Cat pointed out all your kind wishes re my aunt's passing. Titi Leila was older than my mom, who passed in 2000 at 82, so Titi Leila was certainly in her 90s. She was very much like my mother personality wise. They were both feisty women all their lives. Mom was "Rosie the riveter" during WWII after getting engaged to Dad, and while he was in Europe getting ready for D Day. Dona Leila, after whom my youngest is named, was doing her part on the home front in PR. She was always a loving and caring woman, and I along with her 4 kids and multiple grand, and great grand kids will miss her. As Cat said, it will be strange to go to PR and not see her. Thanks again to all of you for your condolences.
I'm sorry to hear about your loss, Carlos. It must've been a privilege to know her.
You and Cat are in my thoughts and prayers.

Some schools have midterms already?? Where does the time go?
During my college days, I often had fall midterms during October.

And then of course, some classes give more than one midterm during the semester...I had a few courses like that. And we just about always started in late August so that we could finish in mid-December. Exception: in 2006, CSUN started the day after Labor Day, and finals happened the week before Christmas.

then maybe I thought I heard mid-term and it's just a test? I'm not sure, but it does seem early for a midterm, after only 1 month of class.

Sorry to hear about your aunt Carlos and I hope Julie's new medications do the trick. The anxiety can't help the nausea, been there done that it's a vicious circle.
Himself has been to the doctor for the results of his blood tests and everything is completely normal except his potassium levels. He was told to eat things like citrus fruit, he rarely if ever eats fruit. I put two oranges in his lunchbox yesterday but he grumbled so much about how messy they were to eat I left out a banana today! ::)
The being insanely hot all the time is apparently 'just one of those things some people have' When I say insanely hot I mean his skin is so hot it's like touching a hot plate, unbearable, and yet he's not sweating just burning hot. The fact that he never used to be hot all the time doesn't seem to bother the doctor any.
As for me I am going out for dinner with some girlfriends tonight, then back to one of them's house to go silly over her two kittens. I'm desperate for a cat but it's just not practical at this moment in time. :-\\

I think you're right and that's what I think is the big contributor to her condition.
Away from home, stressed out, not eating right. This is awful for you and her. She is probably afraid of failing(and not realizing it), or not meeting expectations or something like that. Sounds like she needs to find some part of the day to just stop for a minute. I know you are involved in the church, maybe suggest that she go everyday for a half hour and sit in a chapel, or someplace quiet like that(not her dorm room, someplace separate just for this purpose). Don't underestimate student services, they usually have psychologists or transition groups for students in disarray. She probably needs a lot of reassurance. too, that everything will turn out. Just hearing the words "It's ok, baby" helps.

Went to work at 0730.
Got off at 1730 but had to be back at 1900 to help for 90 minutes because we only one dispatcher working until 2130.
Anyway- UCSB had a free Three 6 Mafia (Oscar Winning Rappers O0 ) concert tonight. It was free and it was crowded.
I just checked youtube but I guess all the kids are too busy partying in Isla Vista to have posted their vids yet.
Anyway. Since I knew all the police officers and security working I went to concert but got to watch it from back stage where I hung out with Bill Paxton. I didn't get a pic with him but I got a grainy pic of him (I only had my cell with me.)
Bill- cuz we're buds now I can call him Bill!- he couldn't have been a nicer guy. He had his 13 or 14 year old son with him and was a hero in the kids eyes because the kid is a huge Three 6 Mafia fan... he must be he knew all the lyrics... I only knew a few. ;D
When I went to shake Bill's hand he was terribly excited and couldn't wait to tell me that he'd voted for them to win the academy award ;D ;D ;D
It was a great night. but I got home a little while ago and have to be awake in 4.5 hours because I have to be at work again at 0730 :-\\

Was it a good concert?
I'm ashamed to say I never heard of the Three 6 Mafia and it's way cool that you got to hang out backstage.
Bill Paxton is a good actor. It's cool that he took his son to the concert. I think the last time my dad took me to a concert was Dr. Hook and Sha-na-na when I was 7. ;D

my dad took me to see the Commodores. They had Big Afros and wore shiny silver jumpsuits. ;D
The concert was great. Three 6 Mafia is a rap group They're closer to gangsta than hip hop but mostly rap about drugs and sex not killing.
They did the music for Hustle & Flow and won the Oscar for best song for "It's Hard Out Here for a Pimp"
Billy P... cuz we're bros now! :D was giddy like teen at his first rock concert! I don't know if it was the music, the atmosphere or making his boy so happy but he was having a great time!!! and so did I!

Today was a day with mixed feelings for us.
It's the first anniversary of my brother's wedding, but this also brings back memories of the sad events that overshadowed their wedding day. (To those that don't know/remember: My mother was hospitalized at the time and died eventually, on October 1).

Indian Lake is a scene
You should make with your little one
Keep it in mind if you're lookin' to find
A place in the summer sun
Swim in the cove have a snack in the grove
Or you can rent a canoe at Indian Lake
You'll be able to make the way the Indians do

I'm busy blowing myself up before the zombies get me in Zombie Survival.
Also observing my garden and trying to give it the right amount of water while it's still hot. Then I get to worry about them getting too much water from the rain.

Over the years painkillers have not really worked for me (with my back etc), I plan to go to the doctor, if it is still bad tomorrow.
That might be the best thing to do if the problem persists.

you should be excited. Bill Paxton rocks. I like him a lot, especially his character Hudson in Aliens. he had the funniest lines in that movie. how exciting for you to be on Bill's "buddy list" and who could forget his breakout role as the mean big brother Chet in Weird Science
...just got back about an hour ago from a weekend softball tournament in Manteca, Ca. Over the 2 days, we played 5 games in 90 degree heat :-X we won 2 and lost 3, I hit 2 home runs in the last game, and that made it more fun and a nice way to finish the tourney.

In my younger days I spent about 3 months in Bath up at the university there. Not a student, just using floor space. It is a great place and I loved it, but didn't know enough to appreciate everything about it. I did see the Abbey, Baths, and Royal Crescent. It is one place I would love to return to. :)

1. Got a computer program that I ordered but it is the WRONG ONE!!! Yeah, they sent me the more expensive one and normally it would bother me but this one is not made for vista. >:(
2. I was going to complain about trying to get our windows fixed only we haven't heard from the guy-but we can scratch this one because he did return our phone call so all is fine with that-and the work starts in a couple of days.
3. Still haven't received a refund for something I ordered back in June and guy is making me feel guilty (LONG story that I don't want to go into) and yes, we filed a mail fraud suit against him.
4. Tried to burn a DVD but it was too big for the blank DVD to fit on.
5. Still haven't figured out this stupid back up drive that I got last week.
6. My mother is threatening to come for a visit-the day AFTER out anniversary. (I told her that she couldn't come ON our anniversary.)
7. I have a wicked headache (feels like sinus).
8. I can't lose these *&^%$(#@ 30 lbs I have gained within the last year-in fact, I think my weight is still going up and so far, the only thing I had to eat today was a thing of yogurt (90 calories ). We were going to go to the gym today, but I farted it off.
9. I am stuck playing a stupid game on Pogo just to get a stupid badge. I know, I know, we don't need no stinkin' badges.
10. I really want a cigarette.
Oh yeah, and it is overcast, rainy and really a yucky day.
Well, you asked.
Sometimes you just gotta scream. :D
You got that right.

Good news for you, Phillip. :)
I've been extra, extra tired for the last two weeks...dr.s, lawyers, apartment hunting and just about everything else (not to mention being in court once) finally caught up to me. I've been doing virtually nothing, but I still feel tired....but somewhat better. Jeff, I was sooo tired that I even had to miss church. :(

There've been times when I've had to miss church because I wasn't feeling good...but there hasn't been such an occasion in at least three years. However, I went to a special service on Saturday night at the Cathedral in downtown L.A.; it was my first time ever going there. So on Sunday we slept in. :)

That was the case here. I wasn't feeling good...at all. But I wanted to go in spite of it being a duty of a Catholic.

Along the same lines of banks failing and other financial shtuff: We put in $75 every month through our bank's partners for them to invest in stocks (Jason's college fund), but I'm honestly thinking of stopping that, and not just because of the situation on Wall Street (what has built up over two years in his fund has fallen quite a bit). I have found it is getting harder and harder every month to afford groceries and other necessities. I'd hate to do it and shortchange Jason in the future, but I can't think of any other solutions, and an extra $75 would come in handy every month. :P We also qualify for help with our utilities, and while I didn't want to go down that road when so many other people are worse off than we are (and we were able to handle paying the bills), I might have to. Food prices have shot up, and the packaging keeps getting smaller and smaller on many things (I'm looking at you, bag of Ling Ling potstickers).
Now that I'm done bitching, I'm going to take Jason to the Museum of Science and Industry. The whole month of September was free admission, but I didn't take advantage of it because of my breakdown. Now I'm going to try and walk through there. Not sure how long I'll last though because when I was walking the dog this morning, I felt a mild panic attack and had to stop and do breathing exercises for a bit. *sigh*

Cat - I take Zyrtec every day, so my allergies are contained quite nicely.
I have the same problem as you - where things knock me out even though they say they won't. (A quarter of a Dramamine knocks me out for 6 hours!) I found though that Advil sinus doesn't hurt me one bit. Perhaps you could look into that? Unless you already have of course ;)

Well, it seems that Carlos is going to be granddaddy once again. Both of us are not very happy about this because it is his youngest who at the moment doesn't even have a job (we THINK she is living with her fiance or maybe some friends, we don't know). But that doesn't mean we are going to love her or the baby any less. I have been putting off announcing this because I was hoping that it was a false-positive but she is in fact expecting.

I would if I could, but it is set up in such a way that $75 a month is the minimum. Since that is a no go (although it would have made it a hell of a lot easier if I could do less), I was thinking of putting it in our savings account (we get about 4% interest on it) and just leaving it in there. It may not get as much value as investing, but at least I know I won't lose it. Then if we absolutely need it, the money is on hand already.
However, I may not cancel it seeing as how I CAN'T get through. I called the number three times, pushed the appropriate buttons, and they asked for me to input a new PIN number. Everytime I did, it would reject it. So I called again (twice), and pressed 0 to talk to someone. The damned number disconnected on me. I can't get through on the website because I need a PIN, which I can't get because the telephone number won't give me one, so I'm really annoyed. Rice is going to call our personal rep dude tonight and see what he advises.
Museum trip was fun. No panic attacks, and Jason got to play with all the cool exhibits. I'll post some pics later.

I should go to one of those sometime. Do you have to have a membership? I've been to Sam's Club (since that is my dad's name, it's HIS club damnit.) ;D

Girl, that smiley being hypnotized by the t.v. is supposed to be ME! Maybe I'll put two of them in so we can watch t.v. together. (Maybe get rid of sparkley, running horse because...I don't like horses anyway, just liked that he is running amongst the stars (or something). lol Yeah, I'm eccentric. Deal with it. ;) ;D

The pair of you .... addicted to t.v. Or maybe it's just screens in general ? If you're not watching tv ... you're watching the computer monitor !
There must be a name ... for such an 'illness' ? ??? Calling all doctors, we need help !

You're hilarious!!!
I do have a membership. I had the regular one $45 dollars but then upgraded to the Executive because you get two membership cards for $100 and 2% back on what you spend. They said that if I didn't spend enough to earn more than $100 then they would give me the difference so I will earn at least $100 a year which will in turn pay for the membership each year.

To everyone who has been sick lately...I hope you all get better soon! Must be that time of year again. I, for one, was only sick for one weekend this month, but my mom is still not totally better yet. In fact, she still has a bit of a cold. :P
