The main site of the aspca.com also offers much information and ways for you to help and fight animal cruelty, and a very good youtube presentation of animal rights activist Sarah McLachlan.

Find the Sarah McCaghlin youtube on the aspca site, and you might wish you could do more than just give a bowl of food. Watching those animals eat like they've never seen food before is something! :)

Update on Lily, a.k.a.. 'octane' or 'terror'. How long does it take a 3 month old puppy to get out of this stage and just be a normal dog? She runs around the house and trashes everything in sight
She avoids using outside like the plague, but will use newpapers (only inside). We tried the crate training as they suggested and, no luck.
Myself, I'm just perpetually tired.

Update on 'demon' dog. She was actually quiet in her crate last night, after a day of gnawing bandages off her foot, and somehow getting out of the 'elizabethan' collar used so she won't lick sores. With the help of a newpaper (for suggestion) she went some outside, but saved the rest for newpapers inside.
After I made a fuss over her being on the couch, now she poises in front of it and looks at me for 'permission'. :)
Has everybody made their click for the day on that site? It can be clicked everyday...I have an e-mail reminding me.

Something about this puppy...some facts besides being demon dog right now. >:(
I just got a new puppy...smooth collie mix w/sheltie in her...she's 3 months old, teething and I got her at a shelter..and named her Lily...she has pale fur, and a collie/sheltie nose and eyes. Completely adorable. I'll put a picture up of her of the thread I made when she gets over her operations and gets rid of that elizabeth collar.
And shhhh!!!.....she's finally sleeping! ;D ;D

She's acting 10 times worse than she was, trying to teeth on me, anybody's clothes, anything she can get her teeth into and of course using the bathroom more times than I can count, usually in the wrong place, of course.
THANK GOODNESS I got a time-out cage for her.

Lily is making good progress in her house-breaking training, using the cage as a tool as said by the DVD on house-breaking a puppy. I have noticed that though smart, she is stubborn and if she senses that she's doing what we want (going outside), she'll mess up her schedule somehow. She's gaining lots of weight, and is eating more. I can't wait until she's house-broken and can play around the house! :)

I figured that I better start callibng the puppy Lily. I think I've confused her by calling her so many different things. Maybe not, she's smart....just chooses when to listen to me or not.
One of her favrite occupations, besides acting like a maniacal puppy, is going to PetSmart. She gets loads of attention and everybody, even the customers make a big deal over how cute she is.
But I did have to get a halter collar for her since she escapes from everything...bandages, Eliazabeth collars and all.

Yea...I looked at it. Those seemed to be songs compiled by this jayeltee. He seems to have gathered different versions of that song or different ones. I was just paying attention to the fact that it was by the Beatles and seemed to be correct.

I found out something interestin from Amiright. This line from the song which I put in place of their lyrics:
She say I know you, can’t catch me The last part, John Lennon ripped off the song Can't Catch Me from Chuck Berry. I compared the two. and there are similar wordings, including "here come ole flat-top with his goo-goo eyeballs". Now I think I know why their song doesn't make sense. ;D

I haven't updated this recently because Lily has turned into a 'wild child', She's 4 months now and I even have to banish her from the computer room to get any typing done. She is all free of stitches, collars, etc. Now she's just pure dog..that acts weird.
My patience with her is short right now because our other dog ...a black lab, has some mysterious illness. She's had explatory surgery....nothing. No blood tests or X-rays showed anything. We brought her home and started force-feeding her. After about two weeks of that, she slowly started eating regular food more and more.
I'm waiting for a camera to take Lily's picture and might as well get the lab's pic. too.

You didn't have any batteries in it ?
I always make sure of an extra set of batteries is in the carrying case.

There is no room in my case...I should get a bigger one.
It wouldn't have helped in this instance because my husband put the danged things in backwards, which I saw right away, when he left.

My case has a special compartment for the batteries.

I definitely need a new case for carrying all the stuff that goes with my camera, including the cord to hook it up to the computer. :)

It just had to be done...Lily chews on me so much that I signed her up for training classes....as long as they teach her to keep her mouth closed, I'll be happy...starts next month so I'll have to endure. :-\\ And she eats so much that she's gained over 6 lbs.in two months!!!

Real sad thing about the animals is the public needs to be better educated when it comes to owning a pet!
Every easter the shelters are full of rabbits , when the new owners don't like the responsibility of looking after them! The animals are made to suffer because of human neglect. We rescued our dog from the pound & hes been terrific addition to our family!I think the schools should add some real life teachings into the teachings like money management & social skills , etiquette , perhaps even courses in general responsibility's!
Too often people get dogs & then can't spend the time with them & can't understand why they chew furnature & wreck things!A Dog will go to the end for its master & die to protect if needed.....How many people would do that!!! Yes sad as it is the courts would never allow an eye for an eye type punishment for animal abuse. Some really deserve it....If I saw an animal being abused (like most of you) I'd report it.
When I lived in Shelbourne Ontario years back some old ladies dog wouldn't walk on a leash so the bitch tied the dog to the trailer hitch of the car & dragged it down the road..Poor dog got its foot pads torn off...
The town went into an uproar over the woman & if she had been attacked I'm sure the cops would have had a late responce to her rescue..The dog was treated & was expected to be OK.
Stories like that make me MAD! But it happens all the time we just never hear the ones that don't make headlines.....I always give to the humane societies!.....Good topic!
Heres our dog NIMBUS

Up a few posts is my puppy, Lily, that I got from the animal shelter. I watch programs like animal rescue every night and you would not believe how those animals are treated. It's because of them that I went to our local animal shelter and got Lily. They were so overcrowded. over 17,000 animals and you know that they couldn't keep them all . We're a city. but not a big city, so people around here are not really educated on the proper way to take care of animals. Even bigger cities have less animals that need rescuing.
Your dog, nimbus, is really cute!! And I'm sure a wonderful addition to your family!

Lily made it through her first dog training session, and was the worst one there. She barked the whole time because she was completely stressed and protective of me. The trainer put her is a pet carrier for almost the whole hour. I was very unimpressed and also upset at the way Lily was treated. I'm going to have to have a talk with that trainer.
Like...WHAT training did she get? Lily was so stressed that when she got home, after making sure I was alright, she slept for two days!! I really think something physically could have happened to her, heart, stroke...stuff like that.

Someplace where everybody will notice it. After all it will say something like 'feeding rescued animals. A great contributor!' So, you would be pointing out animals too.

London Zoo in Regent's Park first springs to mind, but I would prefer Parliament Square, next to Winston Churchill.

In a place like a zoo would be appropriate, unless you really wanted the statue elsewhere.
