I have had a few mattresses that were more like 6 YEARS past it's expiration date. When I first moved in with Carlos, we were using two bunk beds put together and the mattresses were close to about 20 years old at that time. Every morning waking up with back pain was not fun. I FINALLY convinced him to get a new mattress a few years back.

I'm not too sure how old it actually was but it was only about no more than 2 inches thick by the time we chucked it.

I'm sure you will be sleeping better once you get your new mattress.

My parents used the same mattress for the first 15 years of their marriage. When they finally got rid of it, it was still in reasonably good shape. The longest I ever used a single mattress was 12 years, and it was still in fairly good condition by the time I finally gave it away.
