Subject: Missing man 'remembers nothing'

Written By: Philip Eno on 12/04/07 at 3:27 pm

A missing man who resurfaced after five years is unable to remember anything from that time, his sons say.

John Darwin was presumed dead after the remains of his canoe were found washed up on a beach in Seaton Carew, near Hartlepool, Teesside, in March 2002.

The 57-year-old walked into a London police station at the weekend, saying he did not remember where he had been.

He has now been reunited with his sons, Anthony and Mark, who say he cannot remember anything since June 2000.

His wife, Anne, is believed to be living abroad after recently selling the couple's home.

Perhaps she tried to kill him by hitting him in the head or something, and thought she succeeded so she hid the body, not realizing that she only conked him out and made him forget everything, and slowly he escaped

That is my burning question, why did he reappear?

Was it lack of money, disagreement with the wife. Hopefully this will be answered soon.

I figure they cooked up the scam together and moved to Panama.  All the money was in her name and she got tired of him and booted him figuring "what's are you gonna do, turn me in, your just as guilty as I am", then he proceeded to do just that claiming ignorance of the whole thing.  Now they are both cooked.

And, on top of this, the man set out to canoe in the afternoon (as I understand it)...which is an odd time, considering the falling darkness.

What most people do in a canoe: canoeing.

Story is (or: was) he went out canoeing one day, and never returned. Only his canoe and his clothes were found, so he was presumed to have drowned. Well, now that he has shown up again it's pretty obvious that he hasn't drowned at all. We don't know what really happened, though.

Oh yes, he has survive, and wishes to survive longer.

A thought has just occured to me. He was photographed in Panama City, so he must had a passport to travel there, if he used his own with his real name he would had been spotted by customs, so he must had travelled on a false passport.

Yes, and they will probably press to make sure they are charged with criminal fraud charges.  Insurance companies are very serious on this kind of thing.

More than half a million pounds has been recovered from Anne Darwin in connection with an insurance fraud over her husband's faked death.

John Darwin was reported missing in a canoe in the North Sea off Seaton Carew, Hartlepool, in March 2002.

His wife collected £501,641.39 in life insurance payouts while he hid in their marital home, allowing their two sons to think their father was dead.

The pair were found guilty of the deception in 2008.
