Subject: Karaoke...
Written By: AL-B Mk. III on 12/03/07 at 2:55 pm
...do you do it?
And if so, do you have any certain favorites that you get up there and sing?

Ask Rice Cube about his rendition of "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun." :o
I only do karaoke if I'm EXTREMELY drunk. Like to the point that I have to hold on to walls and stuff. Apparently my swan song is "Suavecito" by Malo.

Hey, Al.....
If it hasn't been made apparent to you, I am a Karaoke runner, or "KJ".
So, yeah, I do it a little....
Apparently my swan song is "Suavecito" by Malo.

My band covers this song!
We have a soundclip of about a minute of it, on the website.
As for me, there are so many songs I know, it's hard to pick just certain ones.
-Of course, there are those songs I get requested to do.
Examples: Turning Japanese, Night Moves, Sister Christian, Love Will Find A Way (Pablo Cruise), Still the One (Orleans), etc.
Generally, I like anything '80s, Peter Frampton, the Who, and Gary Wright.

Yes, I've done karaoke...many times...and I always get lots of nice compliments! :D
Favorites:
Carpenters songs, especially...
Yesterday Once More
Superstar
Top Of The World
(I did record myself singing YOM and 'We've Only Just Begun' at home - turned out pretty well! :))
I also love to sing Roberta Flack songs...
And my 'signature' song...the one that's often requested when I go to karaoke clubs...is 'Nobody Does It Better' by Carly Simon... :D

I have only tried to sing once on a Karaoke machine and on that day the songs were set on random and I was to sing the next song. The song that came up for me was "Let It Be", knowing that song very well made life easy for me.

Hmm ... interesting. I never thought about doing a karaoke effort ... then uploading to 'youtube'. Might get around to it .... like so many other things ....
Procrastination ? My middle name ....
Guess I'd probably do Roy Orbison's 'Crying' ... since that's usually the one I pick to try to impress ...
Broken Wings ? I've done it a few times ... but not quite sure if I get away with it ... :-[ :-\\

Speaking as a KJ, for me- it's not about how you sound, or how many drinks you've had, or if you have to have a partner to sing with.
It's all about having fun, and not getting up just to curse into the microphone.
If everyone's enjoying themselves, and doing what I term as "stupid stuff"- such as using their selection to put down other patrons, then we're jake.

Since last seeing this thread on Karaoke, I have now partaken in Karaoke full time. From the range of songs I choose to sing, I found the slow songs the better for me. Songs that were sung by Matt Monro and The Beatles did me fine.

YOU doing karaoke ?? < picks self up off floor.
I just can't visualise that. You'd be about the last person on this site I'd think of who would potentially humiliate themselves in that way.
You live and learn ..... so they say.

Hullama-loo to you, too, Mr. Hawk !
BTW .... of your 'Top 10 (above) .... I know maybe half. (10, 9, 7, and 2). I wonder if you know the original (and better, IMHO) version of 'Do you wanna touch' by the now infamous Gary Glitter ?

Considering my understanding of Mr. Glitter's situation, perhaps that song is both appropriate and inappropriate at the same time.

No, I wasn't in on that.
My main knowledge of Gary Glitter is that he was considered something of a sex symbol, at one time.
Being a heavier man, that tells me I have something to strive for.
Something realistic.
