Yes, we have a similar 'rule' in our house.  My husband's birthday is on the 6th so we don't put any decorations up or anything until after that.  He has conceded that we might not to write some cards next week to get them in the post.  Several people we only exchange christmas cards with so they don't know we've moved to America yet!

Thanks for the concern, but that child wouldn't know what "combined Christmas/birthday" is!  ;D  I never thought it was fair and I didn't want her complaining like my mom did.  My mom was born on Jan. 4, was a twin, had 2 older brothers, and was born during the Depression.  Would you say she got screwed?  :D

When she was in daycare, we'd have a party at the daycare in early/mid December and she would have a party with a few friends on the first Saturday of December.

When she was in elementary school, I'd bring in cupcakes to the class in early/mid December and she would have a party with a few friends on the first Saturday of December.

As she got older, I could eliminate the school/daycare parties, but she still has a party the first Saturday of December.  I try to make the milestones special, like for her 16th, I took her and a friend to Great Wolf Lodge (on the condition that it be done in June!).  This year will be 18, so she is finally getting her swim party at the Holiday Inn with one friend spending the night then on Sunday we'll go to the mall (we were going to go to Chicago, but I can't pull that off and she decided she'd rather have a bunch of "little" stuff than one big one).

We always go out to eat with my parents to celebrate her birthday (this year it's a Sunday so it will be the day before).  She always gets to open up a couple gifts (wrapped in birthday paper, not Christmas paper).  When she was about 6, I asked her how many she wanted to open on her birthday and how many she wanted to open on Christmas.  She said that she only wanted to open 2 or 3 on her birthday because her birthday wasn't the most important one.  It's been like that ever since.

I will work Christmas, Thanksgiving New Years and the 4th of July in exchange for getting my birthday, the emmys & oscars ;) & MLK day off... those are the only holidays I insist on every year! My co-workers LOVE ME!!!  ;D

I'm getting my van repaired tomorrow (today actually) morning, and so I have time to kill.  I will be dragging my Christmas cards with me to finially finish them.  I have some of them done (even bought stamps) but can't seem to remember to take them with me when I go out and drop them at the post office.  They are sitting by my purse so hopefully I won't forget.  Hopefully.
