I could hear everything up to and including the 15.8kHz sample: it sounds quite a bit like a fluorescent ballast up close. Not really a pleasant tone...

For some odd reason I could also hear the 21.1kHz sample, if my speakers are capable of accurately reproducing it. I doubt it.

My results were nearly identical: I could hear up to 16kHz, then nothing until the 21kHz sample.

I tried this with headphones, and got the same result as the computer speakers.

Re-edit: 21kHz sounds like the noise inside an aircraft at altitude. I wonder what frequency is generated by 737 jet engines at cruising speed?

I was able to hear them all, but to be honest, if I had any as a ringtone I would never hear any of them,
hell I barely hear my phone ring now and it plays Toccata and Fugue at it's loudest setting.  ;D

All but the last one, when I turn my speakers up.. =P. I thought I heard the last one, the first time I played it.

This isn't really a fair test, all the sounds above 18kHz aren't actually faithful to the actual sounds they would produce - a single continuous tone. The top note is audible, but isn't faithful to what it should sound like.

Most modern sources agree that the phenomenon known as presbycusis, natural declination of hearing as one passes the age of 20, extremely rapid declination of ability to hear sounds above even 13kHz past the age of 55, does not exist.

For example, the sounds you hear at the URL Jack gave, of frequencies above 19kHz are plagued with harmonics. Get yourself an oscilloscope and test yourself out - you'll have lots of fun destroying your hearing that way!

With my speakers at a normal level I can hear up to 17.7 though that one seems just barely there, 16.7 I can hear quite well and noticeable. When I crank up the speakers I can hear most cept the last one maybe.

I think a lot of it has to do with your sound card and speakers, as well.

After all, I have a Dell, and their sound cards are mediocre, at best.
