It is actually quite common for cats to be born with more toes. We had one as a kid and I did a quick Google search. One place said about 1 in 1000 and another give it about 5% of all cats.

My friend has a Polydactyl cat. She got it when she lived in Florida. She said they're also called Hemingway cats. I'm not a big fan of cats, but it's the cutest thing ever.  :)
