Subject: How do you relax?
Written By: lorac61469 on 04/27/07 at 10:10 am
I'm a high-strung kinda person and I never really relax, I'm always worrying about something. ;D
I would love to hear how you unwind. Do you have a hobby that helps you? Meditation? Prayer? A cocktail or two?
When I get a chance I like to soak in a hot bath with a book, that usually helps me relax. When the kiddos go to sleep I like to read in bed.

Listening to classical music soothes this savage beast. If I read before I go to bed, it relaxes me & makes me sleepy, I know I'm relaxed when I drop my book.

Watch movies (the cheesier, the better)
Read Martha Stewart magazines . . . yes, I know it's weird.

I love to read before I got to bed. I used to have a book light, which made it easier to read in bed and not disturb my husband.
The only problem I have with reading is if the book is really good I can't put it down, no matter how tired I am and if I get to a certain point in a book I have to read it to the end. I've been up to 2 in the morning just trying to finish a book.

Sometimes I sit in my car. I find it easier to read sitting in the car. Sometimes I just stand out on the lawn and stare.

Depends on what kind of relaxing you mean.
if its to calm down after an argument:
listening to music (usually from the 80s), going for a long walk, going to a neighbors and have a smoke and coffee.
to relax enough to sleep:
a hot bath, read a good book,
relax enough to sooth tension: exercise-either biking, walking or swimming.

Bubble baths :)
I love bubble baths! Very relaxing especially if you have some good smelling bath stuff.
I watch the Home Shopping Network or QVC. I swear, it just puts me into some kind of trance. I totally veg out. It's weird, but it works.
I don't get to watch them much anymore. I used to watch QVC all the time. Do you ever buy anything?
I go thrift shopping or antique shopping....everytime I am there (by myself, mind you)...I am totally relaxed and in a great mood.
I love looking at antiques, don't buy much because I'm afraid I'm going to get scammed.
I usually go to the Highland Festival in Abingdon Va., they have three huge tents of antiques. I could spend hours looking at the stuff.
Sometimes I sit in my car. I find it easier to read sitting in the car. Sometimes I just stand out on the lawn and stare.
I like to sit in my yard and stare at the trees and sky.

I bought some candles at Christmas time and some produce bags - they keep your produce fresh for like a month. I usually just like to see what they have though. I especially like to watch the jewelry collections.
I like to take baths too, but I use bath salts instead of bubbles. They soothe your muscles and make your skin soft.

Baths are great. It's good to go to sleep in the bath. Showers suck cus you have to stand.. and standing tends to suck.

I would love to learn how to knit. What do you usually make?
I'm not a very proficient knitter. Every so often the urge takes me. Last year I decided to try again after not knitting for about 5years and knitted a scarf! Now I'm knitting myself a jumper from the Simply Noro pattern book found here in Noro Iro wool shade 47. All the wools are hand dyed so even if I did the same jumper again the striping would be different. The knitting isn't that complex just monotonous with a hundred plus stitches per row!

If I need to switch off after a tough day I garden, I do find gardening is great I just potter about out there and completely unwind.
Or I read or do some kind of sewing, embroidery or knitting.
I also like to go shopping, even if I don't buy anything browsing round the shops or even browsing on Ebay makes me feel better!

I listen to music, read, write, draw/paint, watch a favorite movie of mine... I pretty much do anything to make me feel nice so I can have positive & happy thoughts before I head into dream land.

The past few nights I've been reading before going to bed and I've actually fallen asleep rather quickly...I guess it's because the book is quite boring. ;D
